~ Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust ~

by Tina~in_ut

It is amazing what a little volcanic eruption can do to the world.  Thousands of flights canceled, vacations interrupted or canceled or prolonged, people separated from their families, people sleeping in airports, dignitaries unable to get to the funeral of the Polish President, and on and on.  Over 500 of our crew members have been stuck in Europe since Friday.  There was a Board of Director's meeting in Amsterdam and one Board member took 5 members of his family with him.  The Mrs calls me every morning to laugh and ask if I think she'll ever get home.  KLM and Air France made test flights over the weekend to see if there was any damage to the engines from the ash so they could start flying again.  Tonight, they started flying!  There is no way I'd ever be on one of those planes!  It's too crazy for me~

Its scary ....I mean....it makes me wonder if it is 100% safe for planes to resume flying and how much of that 100% is economics...?

I know the stranded travelers are more than ready to take their chances to get home...

Our KLM.. Lufthansa..Air France..and Continental flights were grounded prompting me to send Driver to the airport to see if there were any hot men stranded who could use a comfortable bed..a hot meal and shower...and of course one red hot mama.....

He brought back two hotties from Berlin that turned out to be great guests.....

I could feel them undressing me with their eyes....then dressing me up again in a different outfit...fully accessorized....

Turns out they were gay!

But my closet did get organized...and a good time was had by all.....good times...(sigh)

First on your own blog..tsk tsk..still lovely as ever though. :) Good morning...can't wait to read the inside scoop on the volcano ash! Must be a real pain in the ash.

Morning Glories!

Tina Tina Tina pretty only goes so far in this world!

I am 100 percent with you on this one. There is no way I would climb onto one of those planes until the ash clears! I lived through the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980 and remember to well what ash can do to engines any engine, in our case cars! My Dad and brother and I had to get from Seattle to Aberdeen about a 2 and half hour drive. It took 8 hours. We had to stop frequently to pour windex on the windshield and Dad had to fashion a filter across the front to keep the ash from the engine. He used my pantyhose. It was a freaking nightmare.

Could not find face masks to save your life, literally!

So nope no plane rides for me through an ash plume!!!

Deedee so wonderful of you to open your home to strangers. Note to self, Deedee puts you to work if you stay with her. :)

Good Morning.... Tina, Dee, Bebbi and Lynn!

What a mess... so many stranded, a couple of my clients had to cancel their european vacations.. and so much money is lost.. hotels and most airlines are offering full refunds.. and of course my commission is lost as well..

And I agree, no way would I get on a plane until the dust clears..

Hope everyone has a good day!

DeeDee said...

no no no Lynn!!! Those boys opened the doors to that closet and its as though they had seen Marilyn Monroe herself!! I couldn't have stopped them!!

And ya know I'm not one to argue...just ask Tina......

I had just been in Portland a couple of days before St. Helens erupted!! Matter of fact I was visiting Paul (friend that I was supposed to see Xmas)....

I must read more about what has happened in Iceland because I wonder how it compares....the human aspect I mean....

I am sure Icelanders are horrified now that the larger volcano that is due to erupt will indeed erupt.....

How many heard Rush Limbaughs comment about the eruption being Gods wrath over Healthcare passing?? lol

Hi...not very many RSVPs on the Meet and Great on home page....hmmm.

Ok...MO put me in charge of knowing day and time people are arriving and then I will let everyone know. So far I know when LYNN, JODI, MO and myself will be arriving. Can the rest of you chime in the day and time to me? Thanks

TINA: I haven't been able to watch the video yet and I am on the way out to the doctor to see why my heel is killing me so much. Will watch when I get back. I am enjoying an early morning occasional phone call but I am not liking your hours at all!!

DEEDEE: You look so pretty in red today....very pretty...prettier than TINA (SHH)

LYNN: Good thing you had pantyhose in the days.

Good Morning LYNN, DEEDEE, TINA, CAROL, BEBBI and all you other owls that will be coming by soon.

All these earthquakes recently and now this! And so close to 2012!

BTW, if you want to have some fun with volcanoes, check out the wikipedia article on supervolcanoes. Whew!

Okay..I seriously need to make a list of things to do before Chicago. OMG..I really am freaking out!
1. Get nails done
2. Get directions together
3. Do some darn laundry and figure out what the heck to wear.
4. Freak out
5. Freak out some more.
6. Send Dianne my arrival times.

Bebbi don't forget to sharpen your axe.

TINA: The pictures of the volcano are really frightening..and to think the one next to it is even bigger..geez. It must be like living in a disaster movie to the people affected by this eruption. They are completely at the mercy of Mother Nature..and you know what they say about fooling with her! I wouldn't fly in one of those planes..no way..I'd wait it out until I knew it was safe.

Congrats on :)~ and Prettiest!

DEEDEE: "I could feel them undressing me with their eyes..then dressing me up again in a different outfit.." LOL!! :D

BEBBI: Deep breaths..deep breaths..it'll all get done.. :)

BEAR: I checked out the article..scary stuff!

DIANNE: I hope the doctor was able to help and that your heel will be feeling better soon!

CAROL: I'm sorry to hear that this volcano is causing headaches for you and your clients. I hope things get back to normal soon.

LYNN: I remember Mt. St. Helen's it was fascinating and terrifying at the same time. I felt so bad for the people that lost their lives..very sad.

SHIRLEY: LOL!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Of all the video clips and news articles I have read about this I have heard very little about how this is affecting the people of Iceland. How are they coping with the ash cloud? How many have had to move? How is the flood from the melting glacier being dealt with?

I love hearing the stories about people who are opening up their homes to some of the passengers waiting for flights. It's nice to hear the good stories too.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Hey what's up with everyone?!! I put deodorant on this morning AND I wiped the naughty mat off after I went potty on it! So where is everyone?

Maureen said...

SHIRLEY...I just got home and here I am! Are you ready for tax season to be over? How's your Mum doing?

Maureen said...

I can't imagine living so close to a volcano and dealing with all that. So scary. Although, I can think of worse things then being "stranded" in, say Italy for an extra week!

TINA...great blog!

Maureen said...

DIANNE...I hope the doc could heal your heel!

Maybe you can make a master copy of everyone's itinerary and then email it around to us.

BEBBI...disregard SHIRLEY'S instruction. DON'T sharpen the ax and DON'T bring it!

Tina~in_ut said...

O M G ! ! ! ! I'm so tired.....I'm going home now~ thanks for your comments....I'm going to bed when I get home so see you all tomorrow~

And Shirley~ you smell divine~

Bebbilane said...

Shirley: I don't know how to get the axe past security so I guess I won't be able to bring it. *sigh*

Shirley, don't get too dissapointed, I am sure it's okay...because the people who are driving are bringing theirs!

Maureen said...

BEBBI...i'm not bringing mine...

Shit, I don't even have one!

Maureen said...

Hmmm, I do have a meat cleaver...

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Thank you Tina! And may I say you look lovely tonight! Sleep well and sweet dreams!

Bebbilane said...

check on sending Dianne my arrival times.

Bebbilane said...

EWwww MO! uggh.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Hi Mo! Yes I am ready for tax season to be over. I've seem people coming out of the liquor store with bags and boxes, yet they haven't come in to pay their bill to us and pick up their taxes because the "don't have the money". Boo hoo! I have no sympathy for people like that.

Mum is doing ok. Thanks for asking.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Psst...Maureen...psst...you can always buy an axe once you get to Chicago!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Bebbi when you get to the hotel make sure to check the...oh never mind. I'm sure it will be fine.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Ok all you birds of a feather flocking together, I'm going to bed! Good night!!

Maureen said...

SHIRLEY...why didn't I think of that? Must google AXE'S R US in Chicago land

Bebbilane said...

Um, Shirley..I changed my mind, Hubby and I were talking and we figured out a way I could get the axe on the airline. So, everyone. I am officially bringing an axe! yay. :)

bonachichi said...

Ashes to Ashes... We've chartered an aircraft to take us to Heathrow for Gumball. Whether we make it there on time is anyone's guess.

Whab... I watched a docu on the 10 plagues of the Egyptians, as carried out by Moses and his big stick.

I respect your opinion, but to me, it's just natural phenomena.

Maureen said...

If I stop showering and using deoderant now, no one be able to get close enough to me to axe me...

Maureen said...

and i DO know how to spell deodorant

bonachichi said...

I must apologize for being absent recently. I had the gall to get inundated with work, which I always thought would be a good thing. I feel as though I'm getting a cold shoulder because I've not been on FB all day, every day. I mean no harm; I'm just trying to make a living, help my kid finish college and eradicate some aggressive cancer.

Bebbilane said...

Bonachichi: Good to see you! When do you leave for Europe? I was thinking of you but was thinking it wasn't for another week or so. Hope all is going well with work.

Bebbilane said...

Please don't feel like you are getting a cold shoulder! Only warm shoulders over here. I know you've been so busy. I certainly understand (now I can't speak for these other losers)..hehe ;)

bonachichi said...

Bebbi, we are scheduled to leave on 4/24 at O'dark-hundred from a private airport aboard a charter jet. Commercial airlines won't commit to anything right now. DeeDee can probably give you more specifics, but I believe we're flying a G5 since there are 12 of us going.

I'll be online the whole time, except when I'm being "detained" by various governments. G4 technology is the best thing since fire.

bonachichi said...

Sorry... the cold shoulder I refer to is my incessant requests for easter eggs in IP when I log in. I'm very conscious of sending gifts each day I log in out of respect for my friends. For all my pissin' and moaning, I've gotten one egg in 4 days from an Owl. From DeeDee.

MW is another story altogether; I can't keep up with all that goes on there. I guess thieves do stick together.

Bebbilane said...

Nice! LOL, about the G4 comments. I wouldn't know, I am still on G3 (I think). Sounds like a super fun and exciting time. Be sure to keep me up on when you make it over there. That is so scary. They have opened up some of the airways though, as of today, right?

Bebbilane said...

Haha...OHHhhhh one freaking egg...!! What's up with those lazy Beotches over there in egg laying land? I mean, I send you a gift or two every freakin day. Well, every day I am on which, in essence, is every freakin day.

Bebbilane said...

And not eggs either, I sent you nice things like blown out brains, pea shooters, torn apart arms..all kinds of exciting bric a brac.

Bebbilane said...

Okay..I am heading to bed. No mafia tonight. I am tired. Elliptical at lunch, Belly dancing and Zumba wore my ass out. I got 18,964 steps today and my knees are FEELING every last one. Night all...sweet dreams.

Take care and talk to everyone soon. Hugs!

bonachichi said...

Bebbi is of course, talking about an Easter Egg Hunt in MW. I got all the eggs the first day they were offered. She does send me some pretty gross stuff too, but I do the same to her. The gross stuff helps you get ahead.

bonachichi said...

I don't know about airspace being opened or not with respect to the ash. I assume if there's any risk, we won't be flying. All I know is that I HAVE to be in the U.K. by 4/27 so I can get all the equipment ready. Gumball kicks off on 5/1.

sacBarb said...

Just popping in to say good night and sweet dreams to all the Owls. I hope everyone had a good day.

sacBarb said...

Di, you've got mail.

Just_Lin said...

I'm just popping in real quick to say "hi" and good night, too.

Tina You look a little ashen. Perhaps you should get more rest....ijs.

Seriously, thanks for the blog today. What a nightmare for so many travelers but there is just nothing anyone can do about it. It will be safe when it's safe. The poor people and animals in Iceland that would have been directly affected. I haven't really heard anything about that.
