A woman who won $42.9 million off a penny bet in a slot machine had her dreams dashed when the casino said the jackpot message was an error. Now Colorado gambling authorities are testing the machine while the state’s 39 casinos scramble to reassure gamblers. Louise Chavez of Thornton got the jackpot message on Friday at the Fortune Valley Casino in Central City. The top prize was listed as $251,000. She said that the casino gave her free breakfast but that she is owed more.

What do you think is fair? The casino itself isn't worth $43 million........however...the gaming commission will back up claims if it is warranted.....

Deedee I read this story online. I find it funny that this has happened before in another Colorado Casino. That case was settled out of court and is private. The question for me is who is playing with the slots in Colorado???
It is clearly posted on the machines what the biggest payout will be from that machine. Never have I seen where a penny machine would ever payout in the millions. It is an obvious glitch. I think the casino should give her the $251,000, but 43 million naw.
But hey she and a lawyer can try to seek the fortune. Sadly she will more than likely end up with less as her lawyer will take a chunk if it goes to court.
I do think they may owe her a waffle breakfast for life tho.

As usual I tend to agree with you on giving her the $251,000.....but the fact is that the company that owns the casino is in bankruptcy and the casino is for sell so I think they are less likely to make or need to make a good PR move.
I read that considering the percentage of the penny that goes into the machine that it would take over a trillion plays for that machine to be capable of paying that type of jackpot.
Once many years ago I played a slot machine for a bit in the MGM in Vegas and something happened. Lights and bells went off and people around me were telling me I had won something.....but the casino lady and rolled her eyes and did something and the bells and whistles stopped and she left......lol.....so I am assuming the machine malfunctioned.....I didn't tarry for long because I was waiting to have my picture taken with the MGM lion and that interested me more....lol
Wow. What a juicy story. First off, I think the casino owes the woman the max payout as posted, plus damages for inflicting their idiocy upon the public. If the casino is in bankruptcy and for sale, the negative PR will certainly have an impact.
What if the error was in the casino's favor? Would they chase someone down because they owed them money? Not on your life. The casino got caught with its' pants down. It's bad news for the casino, the gaming authority and the software company.

DeeDee. It seems to me that slots all post what the winning combos are and how much the payout is. I assume she got some kind of winning combo and it wasn't just some random message that said she won millions. I think she hould get whatever the winning combo was good for.

My Mom called me up at the last minute and asked me to help her with an important errand at lunch. It was a struggle and I was grumpy but we got it done. It's funny, I thought when the kids were all grown I wouldn't have any last minute stuff pulled on me, but my Mom has done it twice in the last couple of weeks. It has me worried..and I feel guilty because I can be gripy about it and I know she's not doing it on purpose...all I can say is..please God, give me patience..or if not God then someone. *sigh*
So, it's been a crazy day ...vent over.

DEEDEE: I think she should get $251,000..since that is the posted maximum payout on the machine she was playing. I don't think it would be fair to punish the casino for a computer glitch that they have no control over. There is no way this woman really thinks she won $42 million on a penny machine. It's like going to take $20 out of the ATM and having it give you $20,000..when your balance is $2,000. You know that it's a computer error..and the money isn't yours. Ok..not sure that's a good analogy..but it's the one I came up with and I'm stickin' to it!! :D

Well, Tina returns! Sort of. I want nothing to do with gambling software... I couldn't imagine being responsible for something like this happening.

Speaking of bugs, I found one in Mafia Wars, a game Bebbi and I play. We've both agreed we won't tell anyone because we want to cheat. Cheat at a game where we rob people and commit crimes to get ahead. How pathetic is that?

You would have to be a little slow to think that you would or could win 43m on a penny slot....
I hope she gets good legal advice and is satisfied with the outcome....I say that with hopes that it is in her favor.....

ZONA: Thanks for giving me good wishes about my tooth. Now I know some of you don't want to hear this so move on the the next post. I had to go to root canal dentist yesterday for a new root canal in a tooth that had one about 20 years ago and now it is not good anymore. I have to go back on Monday to finish it as he wanted it to have some time with meds in it as the infection has gone into my sinus cavity..yikes....no wonder it is my face that hurts and not my tooth. But I will leave this paragraph with one more thing ....the F......;.shots (3) in the front of the mouth hurt like a MF and that is pretty bad for me!!

i can't stop laughing.....had to pause the tv to tell the hubby what DeeDee wrote about Mary J Blige....this woman walked up and sat by me at LAX......I saw her before my daughter did.....she was wearing sunglasses, a short dress with a tiny jacket and four inch heals......as she walked by my daughter, my daughter said, "Mary J Blige is in da house!" I laughed....it wasn't really her, she just had that attitude about her....and then when the flight was delayed, O M G!!!!! She was pissed! I tried to help her with her connection, and was SO happy when she made it once we were in SLC!~
