ok, feeling better. After the NATIONWIDE fiasco this morning, I had to deal with someone from a different company. Now here was a guy who clearly wasn't competent nor liked his job.
After 10 minutes of doing the 'hold while I check' dance, he came back with an answer to something that didn't remotely come close to the question I asked.
So I took Bebbi's advice- I chewed him up and spit him out. He didn't know what hit him. :)

I've got an appointment in an hour, then I have to rush home to meet the plumber. I hope he's cute. It seems my water heater's pilot light won't stay on. These cold showers are killing me. I sure don't waste any time in the shower. I asked about a tankless water heater and was told they start at $4000. Guess I'll just stock up on matches. BBL

Where do you all find all these good-looking guys? All the plumbers, cable guys, tile guys, etc. I get are fat with plumbers crack, bald and they burp. What am I doing wrong?

someone is pulling your leg. I have tank-less gas water heaters....they are top of the line Bosch and were about $1200 each....and you get a tax credit on 30% of the cost....plus the energy savings are substantial...
I think many times a plumber or contractor will steer you away because they don't want to mess with them.....make sure you get someone with experience with tank-less heaters...
It sounds like whomever told you $4000 doesn't have experience with them and likes to stay safe by sticking with what they know....
The fact is for not much more money you will save money and never run out of hot water....

Barb: You turned me on to the idea of electric BBQ's at your BABB last summer, and as part of my remodel, I'm going to get one. But they are appallingly expensive! If I want one with the same cooking surface space as my gas BBQ, it's going to be over $3K !!!!

It was pointed out to me this evening that the installation can run about $1200....but of course the 30% tax credit is on that as well....
and that is still $1200 short of $4000....then I started hearing talk of special pipes...vents...codes....

We bought the heater at Sears, paid for removal of the old one, paid for installation of new one.
Phone call from Sears, Calif. has some regulation and can only sell certain types of carbon this or that water heater (I can't remember exactly what he called it).
More $$
Then another call, must have new straps, new catch pan, new this and that.
We ended up having to spend about $600 more than we thought.
But what can you do?
