Fantasies of a Peri-Menopausal Woman

Fantasies of a Peri-Menopausal Woman

by Lynn D

Yes believe it or not I have a rich fantasy life. It may not be what you think (Tina, Mo and others get your mind back on the sidewalk) my fantasies of late involve Cell phones…..

I am on an innocent shopping trip to the grocery store. I have my cart in hand and I am wandering the aisles looking for the items on my list. I approach the bread as I need a couple of loaves of whole wheat, but I can’t move, I can’t get to it because some lady (I use this term loosely) is blocking my progress as she has stopped in the middle of the aisle talking on her damn cell phone. I stop and listen and really people do I have to hear about Uncle Tom’s prostrate problems while I am shopping?????

Now here is the fantasy I slip into, I grab the phone from her hand and start sprinting down all of the aisles grabbing cell phones as I go. I am tossing them into the gourmet Olive bins and lining them up to run the cart over and over them. I tell you it is exhilarating. But the reality is I wait or go around her.

Now I was at the library a few weeks ago. People this is my Sanctuary akin to my sacred place. I love to go there. Until the day I ran into the Brittney and Lindsey wanna be’s. I am browsing and looking for my books and a phone rings! I am thinking NO Not Here! Britt answers the phone. It is their friend a Paris wanna be. They have a whole discussion about meeting at Jack in the Box (our town equivalent of a night club) and whether or not Damien will be there and he is Soooooooo Hot.

I realize that I am slipping into a fantasy of ripping the phone out of her hand and race walking to the book drop and down it goes!!! I am laughing gleefully as they whine behind me. I point to the sign you know the one with a cell phone pictured and a big red circle with a line through it? Even the library realizes they are challenged and put a picture up for them.

Sometimes fantasy turns into reality. I was at the movies with Mr. Lynn D we just spent about $25.00 for our tickets and bucket of popcorn. We are settling into our seats as the previews begin and what do I hear? Yes you guessed, a cell phone ringing behind me. Now I don’t know if it is the lack of hormones or I am just loosing my mind but I turned around and the woman is actually answering the damn thing. I look her in the eye and say “Oh no you didn’t”, in a far off distance I hear Mr. Lynn D mumbling something about bail but I just keep my eyes locked on this woman as she hastily closes her phone and turns it off.

I know this is crazy but I just could not take it anymore!!! This is not Get Smart people the cone of silence does not drop around you when you answer that cell phone.

I know you are thinking what is her point? Well I don’t know that I have one, but I just keep wondering what has happened to common courtesy? Are we so wrapped up in ourselves that we no longer feel the need to consider others? Are we so important that only our needs are the ones that matter?

Just maybe it is being peri-menopausal and I am slipping my bonds of reality. Or maybe I am just a cranky bitch.

KUDOS TO LYNN D!!!! Great blog!! I work in retail - and my biggest pet peeve is when a customer comes into my line talking on their flippin' phone. I'm sorry, but if it's that important, have the courtesy to finish your call before coming into the store. But here is what I do when they are on their phone. I kill them with kindness - AND ask them ALL the questions: do you have gasoline today? Would you like to try a breakfast sandwich with that? Debit or Credit? Do you want cash back?
And they act like I'm the one being rude!!! The other thing I've actually done is NOTHING!!! And wait for them to wrap it up before waiting on them. The customers waiting in line behind them let them know that they better get going - and I don't have to say a word.

TINA - You snooze you lose!!! LOL!! But congrats on being first - BEHIND ME!!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!

Lynn D~ I'm laughing my ass off! You are hilarious~ I must confess....yesterday....I went into a store to buy some Pan Dulce...and I went with Zona on the phone! I did put the phone down (I asked her to hold) while I paid for my stuff...but she was still there! Oh....and then she went with me to Apollo Burger! Oops! But since they gave me my meal for free, I didn't have to put Zona on hold! :)~ I just can't stop laughing! You wrote about me!!!! (serious face now....) I don't talk loud and don't do it often, because I can't stand listening to "important" business men talk!!! you know the "important ones!" Oh my...you are too cute woman!! I just loved that.....write another one~ :D

I laughed and even snorted!! You give good blog!

How true...rude, rude, rude!

I also have retail in my background and I hated trying to be a good little Customer Servant and they wouldn't get off the phone - -or even acknowledge me! THENNNNNN, when I would be with another customer they would barge in because they are now in a hurry! GGRRRRRrrrrrrrr!

The worst one was when I was buying something at Office Max and the cashier NEVER GOT OFF HER CELL PHONE! She never said hello, good-bye or even EFF-YOU to me! Just continued her convo as she took my money! I wanted to smack her.
Ohhh, I got my last word in as I promtly went home and emailed a complaint about her and her boss to the corporate offices!! bwahahaha!

I hope to read more of your writings! GOOD JOB!

Oh Lynn D...I sense a firm grasp of reality and no bitch in sight. One time I leaned forward in a movie and told the texting folks that they could watch the movie or text...in the theatre or out of the theatre..aaahg. I am cell phone challenged though..so just use mine for my dd as her"bat phone" in case of emergencies. I call friends when I'm on a long two lane or something..my dd has to do all the programing. It is amazing how hormone changes can free us up though. Thanks for your funny, true and articulate descriptions. I just want one of those phone turner off devices they sell in Europe...and I want it to work for boom boom booming car stereos too.
Maureen..I already had breakfast..can I supply the mid morning snack? Cara Cara pink flesh oranges and Latte's?

God I am LOVING this space. THANK YOU to the creators and participants...I am officially getting what I want from a "blog".

Peace.

Good Morning Owls! I am so glad you are enjoying my blog! I tossed and turned all night over it! LOL How do writers do this for a living?

Tina I am having some seriously weird visuals of your tricked out washing machine. What I keep visualizing would make it awfully hard to load the darn thing! (oops no pun intended).

Jodi: I would have to slap those customers. I could not take it if they were on the phone while I am waiting on them. I really like your kill them with kindness approach!

Mo: Thanks for breakfast. Watch out though Jodi is asking for mufflings??? Not sure what is on her mind this morning. Yeah bust me out! I do have a cell phone. When did I get it? Just this past xmas because my family decided I needed one. How many times have I used it?? 6 times. See how much I like it!!! I take the darn thing with me but turn it off when I go into a store or post office. This drives Mr. Lynn D nuts!!!
The only thing I like about it is that I can call my Dad and brother for free.

Tina: Put that damn phone down!!!

whabbear said...

Good morning, owls! Lynn D, I just cracked up at your Walter Mitty does cell phones blog, complete with the cone of silence! LOL!

And now, an observation and a question. People obviously shouldn't be on their cell phones in movie theaters and other places where conversation is inappropriate. But irritation with cell phone use seems to go quite a bit deeper. I've heard many people say that they just find people talking on cell phones in their vicinity annoying, period.

Why is that? What do we find it perfectly OK for two people physically present in our vicinity to have a conversation with each other, but not one-way conversations through a cell phone?

Dianne: Finally, an answer to your question! A shandy is a British invention, part beer, part ginger beer (preferably) or ginger ale (if you can't find ginger beer). It's totally delicious, and Huz and I love to make one for the hot tub after tennis.

Hi gang!!

LynnD--awesome blog, and NO, you do not come across as bitchy. I think you're right--common curtesy is out the window, especially with young people! LOL at Tina for being who Lynn was talking about!! I needed a laugh today, thanks, gang!

Jodi--are you frozen solid there? We sure are!! 2 hour school delay, just got the kids out the door!

Mo--thanks for breakfast, that coffee is warming me up, and the muffin, yummo!!!!

goldie said...

Good morning Jodi, tina, Mo!

Great blog Lynn. I too want to smack the cell phone into next week when people use them to gab on in public. And the worst is when you are in a resturaunt and someone is gabbing away at the table. RUDE.

Now, that said- I found out when my granddaughter was born on my cell phone in the middle of the grocery store. At which point I started to cry and several people inquired as to my well being. At that moment I thought the cell phone was the greatest thing ever invented and I didn't give 2 shi*s as to whom was hearing the conversation!!

Thanks for breakfast Mo- I got up late and didn't eat properly before leaving for work.

goldie said...

Hi Bear, and nowmercy and LOM- I started to write my post before yours was up.

Bear- I think it is because people talk louder when they are on the cell. Seems like nobody talks quietly into it that is why it seems more annoying.

Jodi said...

WHABBY - Thanks for the description of what a shandy is - I had been wondering too!! Here's one to try - especially for the hot tub!! My mother in law calls it "Jet Juice" - but I prefer the other name - "Strip N Go Nakeds"!!!! Equal parts beer, lemonade consentrate and vodka!!! Tastes like a lemon sweet tart!! Totally yummy - but very potent. One summer we went tubing down the Apple River in Wisconsin. We had our "Jet Juice" with us - well, by the time we got to the end of the river, I seriously couldn't get out of my innertube!!!

Have a great day!! :D :D

spring said...

Whabbear..hmm a Shandy might make me like beer. All I like is the kind uh..black and tan or something.. anyway.. I thought I'd answer the cell phone irritation. I feel the same way about two people having a loud conversation as I do about cell phone talkers.. usually they talk LOUDER than a normal conversational tone and I find they usually are less aware of their surroundings. As if that weren't enough..to me, it is just irrationally wierd to be around someone on the phone. It is hard to tune out the one sided conversation. Oh well. I wonder if some folks use it as a connection shield? I don't know, really.

Okay, we've warmed up to -1F..whoopteedoo. Gotta go warm up the fire, again and again.
Peace..oh..that moon last night..wow.

Jodi said...

Hi LOM & GOLDIE!!!

LOM - We didn't have a delay this morning, but we did get another 8 inches of snow. Yes, it is cold and going to get worse. Gratefully by the weekend we're suppose to have temps in the 30's!!!

GOLDIE - Just 3 more days!!! Can't wait!!

NOWMERCY - The moon was beautiful - I got a full view of it taking the kids to school this morning!!

Hey Jodi, Goldie, LOM, ..

Jodi, where are you so cold? I'm in Montana..hit minus 17 last night..jeepers. Anybody got soy hot chocolate out there? Brrr.

Whabbear..send some CA warmth will ya? Oh never mind, I'd just mistake it for global warming.

Okay..I'll check in later..gotta call some clients back. No REALLY, I GOTTA get some stuff done, I am not coming back for five minutes. lol

Good Morning - Happy Full Moon day!!! (sorry, Whabby, could NOT resist)..

Lynn - thanks for a wonderful blog - just the other day, I was talking to my sister, while in a craft store, I got in line and politely told my sister that I was going to hang up and call her back, cuz the line was REALLY long and I didn't want to be RUDE - well, the lady in front of me said. "Oh don't hang up, this is really boring and it will give us all something to do" - Just about died laughing - I did end up hanging up and she really did seem disappointed...... :-)

Jodi - congrats on being #1 AND jumping in from the bushes and taking over 400!! :-)

Tina - I love that you love that I am sleeping!! :-)

Mo -thanks for breakfast!!!

Good morning, Jodi, Tina, Mo, NowMercy (why I always want to say MERCYNOW) , Lynn D, Whabby, Goldie, LOM, and anyone else typing while I type this!!

I may actually be delivering that damn purse today - AND, then get to spend the afternoon at mom's waiting for the high speed internet cable guy!! Sure hope he looks as good as SacBarb's high def guy!! :-)

Hope everyone has an excellent day!! :-)

Hi Goldie! Have a great day at work, and stay WARM!!

lil_ole_me said...

Nowmercy--I'm in Iowa, and it's up to -4 here now, yippee!! Windchill is around -15 or so.

Jodi--glad the kids didn't have school delay, we got about 8 inches of snow yesterday too!

lil_ole_me said...

Oops, forgot to say Good Morning to MEK!! Can you send some warm air this direction???

Lynn D said...

It is cold here too. My front porch is 16 degrees right now. I think some of you would be happy with that temp.

Whabby: Interesting question. For me I think it drives me nuts because we seem so disconnected from the other people around us when we answer the cell phone. I don't mind two or more people having a conversation as they are face to face and enjoying each others company. It seems so natural and comforting to me. Real human interaction.

This really hit me recently when I attended a birthday party for a dear friend. Her kids called and asked me join them at a wonderful restaurant to celebrate.

While we were there I watched as her 3 children all in their twenties, compared ring tones, changed ringtones, called each other so we could all hear the ring tones. Then two of them had calls and answered them and had long conversations. Well I had enough. One of her sons was sitting across from me and I told him how rude I thought they were being and that I hate cell phones.

He was astounded and asked me "What do you mean"? Like I was talking French or something. I told him this was his Mothers birthday and it seemed to me that their cell phones and the people who had called were more important to them than their Mother and the people who were sitting at the table with them.

Amazingly I saw the light bulb go on! He really thought about it and turned his cell phone off.

There is definately a generation gap here.

Hi Nowmercy so glad you found us!

Ok Goldie I will give you the call for the birth announcement! That was truly a time when the cell is needed!

Hi lil ole me!!

Forgot to say congrat on #1 to jodi- and yes, I can't wait!

Jodi and I are doing lunch on Friday and anyone who want to drive on over is welcome to join us.

Hi MEK, don't get lost going to the mile marker :)

I am seriously bored at work. I think everyone is still out shoveling that crap load of snow we got. Usually I wouldn't complain about 8 inches, but.......
And what is up with this cold blast we are going to get again Jodi? By the time it gets to 30 degrees again here in WI we will be wearing shorts.

Good Morning Everyone, well almost noon, Just was reading the blogs, not the comments, such beautiful things people chose to blog about. I want to read the comments and I will as soon as I have time, It might take me a LONG TIME to read them all. You guys are really a great group of people, you really are, Thank you all for your well wishes, My tooth for some reason is still sore, I'm really getting frustrated with it. I thought it would be better, I called the dentist he said 10 days- 2 weeks, He did give me enough pain meds but they take the edge off.

Lynn D. what a great topic to talk about Cell Phones, yes people can be very rude on them. I shut mine off when asked, Doctors, Dentists, etc. But I remember sitting in church and they ask you to please turn them off. Well it was in the beginning of Mass, after the first reading and its quiet after it, someones phone went off. The priest actually got up before his homily and said outloud that whoevers phone rang was very rude, he said it better than I described it, but I was like in shock my husband and I just looked at each other and thought WOW for a priest to say something like that, I'm sure the person that did have their phone on felt about as big as a pea.

Well I have TONS of things to catch up on. I do want to read what everyone had to say but thats like 5 days worth of comments to read, but I'm gonna try, but my housework comes first or my hubby will fire me LOL.

EJB: Your blog sounds so sad, but I want to read it, I don't know how you did what you did, That was mighty strong of you my dear. What a brave woman you are.

I will check back a little later, just wanted to say I missed all of you, and to say that I would of rather of had another c-section than to of had this damn root canal. Really I would of. I can't believe how painful this root canal was and still is really.

OMG - don't faint - but I AM returning the purse today !!! Geez..

LOM - we are NOT having warm weather, but I guess 42 degrees above is better than anything below - right!!

Good Morning, Goldie - unfortunately, no mile marker - I'm going all the way!! :-)

Renee/Eve - glad you are feeling better..

Okay - need to put shoes on and out the door I go!!!

Jodi, lom, goldie and all other cold weather owls, we should meet somewhere for a hot spring soak and hot toddy in front of a roaring fire. I've got logs, anybody got the tub? Toddy?

So glad for my south facing windows..sun is out, it may be minus 1, but the sun and wood heat make me feel like a nap. Ooops, no can nap, gotta keep getting it done.

Jodi, love your PEACE shirt..I have one also.

Anybody know how Amicus is?

LynnD..so funny you driving Mr.LD nuts for NOT using the cell phone...hah hah hah

I have to say..as the mom of a 12 yo (tomorrow she turns 12) it is shocking to have her friends over and watch them text or check messages..while with us..so disconnected. She does not have a cell phone..I tell her, if you are somewhere you can't get to a phone, you better get outa there. If she is going on a walk, she takes my phone to be safe.

Okay..my feet are clean, I'll get off the soap box now.

Whats for lunch

Good Morning to all who have posted before me and all who will post later. The list is too long now to write out each one's name. But Hi to all.
Lynn - Great post! I could have used you on my mother's birthday when I was sitting for hours in a medical clinic waiting for my turn instead of being with my mother. There was a man in his 20's with a 2 year old child. He spent the whole time standing in the centre of the room arguing with his wife. He had no consideration for the fact that everyone sitting there was feeling sick. While he argued the child was swinging on the drapes. Everyone once in a while he would put the phone on 'speaker' so the baby could talk to her mother. He even stayed on the phone while he was answering questions up at the desk. No-one had the nerve to tell him to shut up or to stand outside the door and talk. Yes Lynn I could have used you that day. You would have thought of something great to do to him I know.

Different topic? Have any of you bought something on EBay using Pay Pal? Well I tried for 2 hours last night. It wouldn't accept my password so I changed it. I went through all the questions and when I clicked on 'confirm payment', first I got a page of gibberish and the only way out was the back 'arrow' and it started over again from the beginning. Again it wouldn't accept my new password, I changed it, and went through the process again. This happened four times over a period of two hours and I finally gave up. Are there any of you that could give me advice please. I am committed to paying this item. I wrote the Pay Pal co. and they wrote back saying they would help in 72 hours. Needless to say I went to bed frustrated, and determined never to go on EBay again. Anyone?????

Good Morning/Midday All!

((Jodi)) ~~ more hugs to you today. It's been a tough few days, I know, so hope your day off brings new vim & vigor. Why not come by later and we'll throw on our bikinis and bask in the sunshine. It's a balmy 27 degrees already!

LynnD ~~ Why do you say "cranky bitch" like it's a bad thing?

My least favorite cell phone intrusion=my manicurist yammering (in Vietnamese) into her phone when I'm trying to feel pampered and have a zen moment. It is, after all, the only self-indulgent luxury I can afford.

My favorite cell phone intrusion=lurking around middle-aged hubbies (it's obvious!) in the grocery store, especially around the holidays...I just love the look of confusion on their pudgy little faces as they stare down at the long 'honey-go-get' list, cell phone in place, asking grumpily "what the Hell is a rutabaga?" "the white brown & serve rolls or the brown brown & serve rolls?" "what's the difference between parsley & parsnips, dammit?" Oh, how I love it!

Much to catch up on today. I'll stop by later. Mo, what time is lunch??

Good Morning "OWLETTES" and you know that includes you too whabbear!!!!
Jodi- Congrats on first...

LynnD- I love the blog...

I work in a shipping store... we have this one customer that comes in .. never has her addresses ready or even with her... usually has to make at least one phone call to get her husband to go get on the computer and look up addresses... so one day she gets in my line... of course she does not have all her info needed to ship her packages.... so on the phone she goes... i wait a good 5-7 minutes ...waiting for the husband to boot up the computer and search for the address... and so .... she finally gets the address... about that time the UPS man came in the back door to
pick-up.. so we have to print reports for him... and then he asked me a question ..I turned to answer him... and she actually has the BALLS to tap the counter and say.."could you hurry up a bit .. I need to get home and start dinner." the look I shot her would have killed most poeople ... but she did not blink...and contiues to come in to our store... Unprepared...imagine that..
We lost on customer because one of co-workers actually told her .." when you get off your phone I'll be happy to help you."
OMG!!!! She just walked in... So I better get off here and wait on her!!!!
Thanks again for letting me nest here....

Tinka: I won an auction last nite on ebay and paid through Paypal and had no problems.

Sounds like it could just be your account. Here is a Help line phone number for Paypal: 1-888-221-1161 this is Account Inquiries.

I would contact the seller of the item you bought and let them know you are having some problems with your account. I don't know when you bought the item but you do have 3 days to pay and most sellers like me will give you up to 10 days especially if you are paying with a Money Order.

I hope this helps!

BonO..hoo haa I had a great visual of the grumpy guys tryng to get the directives right...thanks for the giggle.

Another cell phone thingy..when my massage clients show up on the phone..what do I do, give them privacy? tap my toe? I usually say.. I HATE to interupt, but I won't be adding time to the end of our session because I am booked solid today.. I am SO sorry. Some folks, I understand..its a kid and they are frantically trying to talk and get undressed..but really, most calls? can wait. One time I did have a client come in who had to have the phone handy...expecting a call from the secret service...man was I nervous...what if I messed up the massage or didn't hand the phone over if it rang, that was funny, AFTER. I actually got permission to tell the story from the guy..who laughted later at my nervous story.

Bored yall nuff, enjoy the day, may it gift you with connections that warm your heart.

Peace

Lynn D Thank you for writing the great blog. People are just plain rude sometimes. I always forget to turn my cell phone on. And even if it is on, it's buried so deep in my purse I usually don't hear it ring.

Goldie I know what you meant, but ROFLMAO at the visual image of your granddaughter being "born on my cell phone in the middle of the grocery store". They certainly would have had to call for a clean up on that aisle!

goldie said...

just_lin, I was the one ROFLMAO when I read your comment. EWWW- that would have been messy. I believe I would have gotten a new phone too.

I don't have my phone on often, also can not hear it buried in my purse. This often gets me yelled at by my husband. And kids. And sister and brother.....

But the #1 bitch I have about cell phones is people driving and being on them. Hang up and drive!

I'm sorry to hear that Amicus is not well. Hope she is feeling better soon!!

Bored, bored, bored. Are you not supposed to have work to do at work? Yes, there is work here, but I can not motivate my self to do it. I had to check the phones to make sure they were not unplugged this morning!

Lynn, what a fantastic blog! I was laughing so hard. I totally relate to everything you said!

Remember when we were teenagers and you had to use, God forbid, a pay phone???? And it was only 10 cents!!!

And why does everyone that uses their cells in public places have to talk so damn loud??

You are an excellent writer, Lynn, as are all the others who have posted. I am having such fun catching up on the blogs from last week and reading everyones comments. Thank you so much Carol for giving us such a nice warm loving place to come to and hang out. I love it!!!

I sure hope Amicus is ok. Sending out lots of positive thoughts and prayers to her. Hope the news she gets from the Dr today will be good news!

Jodi~~ We call that drink a Hop Skip and Go Naked!! Delicious. And congrats on being first!!! Yay! (its the little things in life that makes us so happy)

Bwaaaa haaaa haaaa haaaa!!!! Thank you so much Lynn D! I love it! I laughed through the whole blog. I totally agree with you. I will give you two examples of similar situations where action was actually taken!
Here at work they were doing interviews for a part-time recpt position. This one young gal shows up, dressed not very appropiately, and then 10 minutes into the interview her cell phone rang. She had the NERVE to dig around in her purse until she found it and then answered it! DURING AN INTERVIEW! Needless to say, the interview was ended and she did not get the job!
The other story is something I did. I was at an outside Summer concert in Sun Valley Idaho. It was, of course, a Journey concert. We were standing front row center. Well surprisingly this was quite a rowdy crowd. There was a lot of pushing and shoving and we were getting pinched up onto the barriers at the stage. Well all of a sudden I can smell a cigar. A nasty a$$ cigar. A 20something girl is standing right next to me now smoking a cigar and the smoke is right in my face. And to top it off, she is drunk and dancing around and she keeps coming seriously close to putting that cigar in my eye. So I, having liquid encouragement (if you know what I mean) reaches up, takes the cigar from her hand and gives it a little toss into the security area in front of the stage. And then I proceeded to enjoy the rest of the concert! My hubby still laughs at that because he said the look on that chicks face was priceless!

Ibebold: I LMAO that the woman you were posting about came through the door!!! Now just slip into a fantasy of what you would like her to do with her cell phone! Hope that helps!

Goldie: Sorry you are so Bored today! I would have loved your job. I have never had a job where I could be on the internet off and on! Well except now with my ebay thing but that really does not count!

DonnaJean: What the heck, you are going all mysterious international woman on us! LOL I am so glad you get to go run errands and that you have help with Laurie! (((Hugs))) to you both!

Amicus: Saying prayers that the doc figures out what is going on! I sent you a get well on myspace.

Barb in WA: I love it! Amazing what a little liquid courage can do. And WTF the girl answered her cell phone during an interview???? I am truly mind boggled at that one!

MEK: Honey I told you to mail that purse! It would have been a whole lot cheaper than the gas and she would have had it by today! LOL Are you stranded at a mile marker?? I hope you have your cell phone!

HiYa Just Lin!!! I hear ringing you better check your purse!

Eve: Root canals take awhile to heal. Advice quit doing the housework! All that bending and up and down will make it hurt worse! Feel better soon!

Tinka: I hope you get through to a real person! Don't get me started on businesses that route you through their answering machines!!!

Bono! You Blog Ho you! LOL Blog away and have fun. Interactive huh? Could someone be trying to get more people to post????

I have actually taken a shower and put on Jeans. I have to run to the post office. Still sound like I ate sand paper but at least the coughing has calmed down. I will check in later kids!

NOWMERCY - I'm in Oregon, Wisconsin, just south of Madison. Pretty cold here today, but at least the sun is out. Temps are going to drop to -12 overnight. Thankfully we're suppose to get into the 30's over the weekend!! We also burn wood all winter - sure does save on the energy bill

spring said...

Jodi...brrrrr gal..sounds like we are sending you our cold stuff from MT. I love using wood. Except for the electric heat for my home office, the wood is the only heat...well, once in awhile I boost the heat in the upstairs with a burst of electric heat. Haven't used the furnace for 3 going on 4 years.

Eve: when I had a sore tooth post work done on it my doc put me on prednisone for 1 week to calm the inflammatory response..saved me and the tooth. You could ask. My understanding is that once the tooth is irritated there is a chemical battle that can cost the tooth...may not be so in your case but depending on your relationship with your tooth doc... I don't advocate prednisone..but it does have its uses.

MEK is there a reward?

Lynn D..maybe you could do voice overs with that husky voice

Ibebold..living up to your handle huh?

Gonna start seeing clients soon..bye gals
Peace

NOWMERCY - btw TINKA & WHABBY both have hot tubs - and I would love to supply the hot toddies!!! CHEERS!!!

Sending healing thoughts and prayers to AMICUS!! Please let us know how your dr appt turns out. ((((HUGS))))

RENEE/EVE - You could join us in the hot tub with a couple hot toddies - maybe that would help kill the pain. Or at least you won't care!! :D

Jodi said...

BARB IN WA - Can't believe the little girl that answered her phone in an interview. Holy crap!!! I work with a few of these younger gals, and is it me? But I don't remember being so flighty at that age - not just with cell phones, but in work ethic, too.

Jodi- the more the merrier (but I have to confess- sorry- I have no idea who chucklehead6 is). I can never keep up with the names!

I know I should not complain about being bored. I am very lucky I sleep with the boss so I get to keep my job. This allows me internet access all day long. :)
BUT- I hate days like this because they drag.

I am in for the hot tub and toddys! I still have that bottle of jagermeister in the freezer. Now that will warm your cockles!

Lynn D - Thanks for your help. I finally got answered and it took us an hour to get things straightened out. I don't know why I have trouble? I haven't used EBay very often but each time I have to change my password more than once. Yes I did get a man to help me and even he couldn't figure out why my password kept getting rejected. On my computer there are 8 letters from EBay and PayPal confirming my change of password. I was very careful writing the numbers and letters and they still didn't work. I am through with EBay forever. I had to take tylenol and have a nap before I thanked you. I don't know anyone else who has this trouble and I have had it all three times I have tried to buy something on EBay. Anyway thanks and case closed. Never again for me.

Lynn - My Hot Tub is 104 degrees and just waiting for BB to join me. When will you be here?

I still haven't heard from Amicus but I am hoping no news is good news.

I am off to walk my 'babies' in the sunshine. It is so rare here this month.

To those who wanted the Southwest Chicken Corn Chowder recipe...I'm doing this the lazy way(copying/pasting from the web) as this recipe looks similar to my nonexistent recipe. However, I poach chicken breast tenders in Miso paste broth rather than using chicken stock (not as salty). When I'm feeling really lazy, I use frozen Southwest blend corn. Sometimes I prefer to use black and/or white beans instead of potatoes.
**************************
Mild green chiles, chili powder, and cilantro give a Southwest flavor to chicken corn chowder. Don't be discouraged by the list of ingredients. This chowder goes together in no time. The mild green chiles are not spicy at all, so don't hesitate if you can't handle spicy foods. If you do like it spicy, just add hot sauce to taste or spicier chiles. Serve in an edible bread bowl for an impressive and tasty presentation.

INGREDIENTS:
1 Tbsp butter or olive oil
1/2 large sweet onion, peeled and chopped into large dice
4 cups chicken broth (see Note)
2 red potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1/2 tsp chili powder
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
3 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels
1 (4 ounces) can chopped mild green chiles, drained
1 large raw chicken breast cut into 1-inch bites
1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
2 cups Mexican 4-cheese blend shredded cheese
1 roasted red pepper, cut into 1-inch strips (jarred is fine)
1 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
Hot sauce to taste
Shredded cheese and additional chopped cilantro for garnish

(Bread bowls for serving if you wish)

PREPARATION:
In a large Dutch oven, saute the sweet onions in butter or olive oil until they begin to turn translucent and fragrant. Add the chicken broth, potatoes, oregano, poultry seasoning, chili powder, salt, and freshly ground pepper to taste. Bring to a low boil and simmer about ten minutes, until potatoes are just barely tender. Add the corn and simmer until corn is heated through.

Remove about 1-1/2 cups of the chowder and puree in a blender or food processor. Return puree to the chowder and add green chiles and chicken. Simmer about 5 minutes to cook chicken. Add cream and shredded cheese. Stir until incorporated and cheese has melted. Gently stir in red pepper, cilantro, and hot sauce to taste.

Serve in bread bowls with additional shredded cheese and cilantro for garnish.

Yield: about 6 servings

Note: You may used canned chicken broth, if you wish. You'll need 2 (14-ounce) cans, then add water to make 4 cups.

Tinka: I am so glad you got through to a human! I have had only one problem with Paypal and have been a member since 1999. I had someone tap into my account for $350.00. Luckily I keep track daily and new that I did not spend that much money! I reported it by phone immediately and I have to say Paypal was right on top of it. The put the money back and went after the guy! I don't know why you have so many problems. I am sorry!

CgirlNona: I think we all like a little wood heat once in awhile! LMAO

Bono and Iteach: I just heard about Heath Ledger! That is very sad but some how I am never surprised by these reports out of Hollywood.

Ibebold: I sent two requests but something is screwy. It says I have o requests in my request file. This has happened to me before does anyone know why?

This happened with Vig too and she had to request me to add her.

Yeah I don't get it!! For awhile there I quit requesting friends because I figured everyone was rejecting me! I was thinking, Man I'm such a loser!

Then it has happened a few more times and I figure it is a glitch but I don't know how to get around it.

Bon'O said...

Goldie/Lynn~~ Usually, it's because the person has ALREADY added you before you look at your 'Friend Requests Sent'.

Sorry I didn't bring lunch.
So here's DINNNER

Salad greens and a variety of dressings
Stew - a veggie one and a beef one
Corn bread
Asst. Soda pops, coffees, teas and water with lemon or lime twists
Warm apple pie

Eat up!

I once had a girl bring in an application, she brought her boyfriend along and WAS ON THE CELL PHONE as I tried to ask her a couple of questions regarding her app. I was so mad! She never hung up the phone. Needless to say, she didn't get the job! Then her mom happened to come in the store and ask if her daughter brought in an application, that SHE had gotten for her! I promptly went into proper job application etiquette!

See ya later

Lynn D said...

Bono I don't think that is it because they never get added to my friends list.

It is way weird. I have wondered if it has to do with privacy settings.

Lynn D~ that is so funny that you said for a while you stopped requesting people. No matter what I do, there are some people that don't get my requests. At first, I thought this one person was just denying me (actually probably was) but then I found out that someone that was accidentally deleted wanted me to add them back, and no matter what I did (change computers, try to add upside down...) nothing worked. I'm just sick. Just sick to my stomach about Heath Ledger. Why, why do these actors turn to drugs? I just don't understand. They want to be in that industry. They want to make movies. They want people to love them. So why do they abuse themselves so much? What a waste of a beautiful young man. This whole thing just sickens me. Heath was 28 years old. He had so so so much going for him. He had so much more to do with his life. My brother was 27 years old when he was murdered 10 years ago on the MLK Holiday. 27. He had his life taken away from him. He did not have the opportunities that Heath had. And yet Heath has thrown it all away because he needed to escape whatever pain, or boredom he was facing by taking drugs. The whole thing is just so sad.

Lynn D said...

Tina Lives!!! LOL The sun is setting here so I am guessing it is safe for her to be out!

Yeah I don't get the friend add thing. I spent a whole month thinking I was an idiot. Then I figured those loosers didn't deserve me and then I was depressed and then I finally figured out it had to be a glitch!

phew..done for the night..funny thing just now..ran out to get wood, no gloves, just to grab a few logs. Grabbed 'em, they had a bit of snow on 'em, reached to open my storm door..hand a little damp from snow. Fingers stuck to frozen metal handle. Hmmm..my first thought was how dumb this would look on the news, my second was if I could save my skin from coming off since I work with my hands, my third was about how much I needed to pee. Well, I blew steam on my hands (careful not to stick my lips to the door too) my digits came loose, and I wisely waited till after a bathroom trip to fall down laughing at that ridiculous event...life is an adventure.

Hey nestors. How is everyone today? It a cold rainy day here in Sac. However, we aren't as cold as some of you guys who need all that wood. I haven't used wood for a really long time. Maybe I should...

Lynn D: I loved your blog today and I totally agree with everything you said. And Goldie, I agree about people who talk on the cell phone while driving. I almost got hit in a parking lot on Sunday because the woman was on the phone and NOT paying attention to her driving. Good thing I know sign language so I could tell her to watch where she was going.

MEK: I read something about you in a craft store. Don't you have enough craft stuff?

Renee Eve: I mentioned yesterday that my cell phone went off in church. I'm sure glad the priest didn't yell at me. I usually turn it off, but I just forgot and it won't happen again.

Bon'O: Thanks for posting the recipe. It sounds really good and I can't wait to try it.

Jodi: Congrats on first.

Barbara in wa: I am so sorry you lost your brother in such a tragic way. And I agree that it is so sad that celebrities disregard the gift of life.

Whabbear: I think another reason why we object to people on cell phone conversations is because when they have one of those ear thingies, you can't tell they are on the phone. I have answered someone who wasn't talking to me and they looked at me like I was an idiot. OK, maybe I am, but I really thought he was talking to me.

Man I am glad that I didn't give Tina my cell #! I'm sure hubby would be convinced she was some looney. For godsake the man thought that JODI would turn out to be a serial killer the first time I met her!
