Earth Day

Three Promises to the Earth

by vig

April 22nd. It is Earth Day today! Happy special day to this incredible planet. This planet that is so loved and so beautiful yet so at risk. It worries me what the earth will be like in one hundred years, two hundred years, a thousand years. The baby that is born at this very moment as I type, what will her generation and generations to follow inherit? And what can we as individual global citizens do to stop the destruction of our planet?

We have talked here on the blog about what we do to live green and environmentally aware and it was inspiring and motivating to read how we Owls protect our global nest.

The celebration of Earth Day began on April 22nd, 1970 and was a time when people all over North America made promises to help the earth. I challenge you now to take things further then what you are presently doing and on this day of honoring the earth, to make three promises that you know you can keep and are do-able and are meant to help save our planet.

My three promises to the Earth:
I promise to have fewer and shorter showers so I waste less water.
I promise to ride my bike more and drive my car less.
I promise to read newspapers and magazines on line and buy less products that use paper which subsequently means that fewer trees will be cut down.

Now it' your turn. On this Earth Day 2008, what three promises can and will you make to the Earth?

Zona We're dialing to vote for David Cook on AI. I had to quit now to recharge my battery for my Custard call tomorrow. I do have my priorities!

Just_Lin said...

Zona You made me go to the home page and check it out. Yes, it is definitely different. I like it alot.

Zona said...

J/LIN: Thanks...I like it too..just was kinda confused for a second..but that's par for the course for me!

Your priorities are spot on!! LOL!

Hello everyone: I have been very busy today with kids, park, COOKING dinner and cleaning my pantry...all in one day!! I guess all that talk about procrastination the other day made me finally do something. I can't believe how good I felt all afternoon knowing what I had done and dinner was made and ready to stick in the oven..surprised my husband too!!

Happy Earth Day: Here are my three promises (why is it that I feel like I should be holding up three fingers in the girl scout salute):

1) Try and be more aware of taking cloth bags to gross-ry store.
2) I am already trying to conserve on driving (btw, they say here to get gas at night to get more bang for your buck).
3) Take shorter showers
I do the lightbulbs and some of the other things.

EBJ; How funny you mention about JOEY's avatar. I told him long ago that the first time I looked at it I thought it looked like a boob. I also have to look twice every time it is showing. I am glad that I was not the only person having that vision!!

ZONA AND MEK: It sounds much too hot there...92!!! Now I am thinking of ZONA'S house with no air turned on yet!!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Hi! Sounds like you had a very productive day. I need to do that more often, too. I usually do cook, even tho it's just for me, but I was out to dinner with a friend tonight.

Zona said...

DIANNE: What did you make for dinner??

sacBarb said...

Hey MEK: I didn't see Idol tonight because I just got home.

Joey: LOL @ the spelling police. I didn't even see that.

I am headed off to bed. I have to get up early tomorrow because I am having overnight company (not a blog buddy) and I have to get the spare room ready.

Goodnight Owls and I hope everyone had an excellent Earth Day. I hope I will be able to land in the nest sometime tomorrow.

Goodnight SACBARB--sweet dreams!!

Hey Zona, J/L, Dianne, BarbWa, SacBarb!

Finally finished doing my part for David C. so I can say 'Hi'. At one vote each 10 seconds, sure felt like more than 720.

Love the new green home page~~wish we could make this page that color or the yellow background of he 'preview' box...very eye-friendly.

Wonderful Wednesday to all!

Flying back in for a sec....

SacBarb Good night!

BonO Are you going too? Good night!

Dianne/Denver said...

Hi Bono: Boy, you are a true dedicated AI fan. I thought I was but I don't think I would vote that much. One time a couple of years ago I voted for everyone and then my husband asked me what my point was to that...I just liked them all and have a hard time when they get voted off at this point.
I still like Brooke. I think she has a beautiful voice. I think maybe Jason tomorrow night and Brooke in the bottom two also. I felt kind of sorry for Jason tonight and think he did okay singing something he had never heard of...that must be hard for all of them to get up and sing something so unfamiliar. My favorite kind of music tonight next to country.

Dianne/Denver said...

J/L: You are ambitious to cook every night for yourself. I would be (and am) mucht too lazy.

ZONA: I made a chicken/pasta/broccoli casserole and more importantly, I made it this morning so all I had to do tonight was stick it in the oven. I must be right on your Martha heels!!

Zona said...

DIANNE: I made lasagna..replaced the noodles with tortilla chips, used cheddarjack instead of ricotta, and didn't use tomato sauce...I called my creation....NACHOS!!!! ;)

I think the real Martha would be proud!!

Just_Lin said...

Dianne Your casserole sounds yummy. I'm trying very hard to avoid white carbs most of the time. That's why I'm usually cooking. I've lost 22 lbs so far and it's been pretty painless to do so. I actually love, love, love white carbs. Oh, well, I would love more to be healthier.

Dianne/Denver said...

J/L: Congratulations!! I so need to do what you are doing. You have more than the healthy incentive too...you have new love in your life, I guess that is why your name was changed to LustLin!

Just_Lin said...

Plus, Custard, who is already in fine shape, is working out and training because of the volunteer firefighting crew he's been put in charge of. He's getting in really good shape and meanwhile I wish I could lose about 50 lbs.

Bon'O said...

JustLin~~Yes, sweet dreams to you. I've had a busy day and hope to have another tomorrow so stick a fork in me, I'm done!

Dianne~~Would you believe I have NEVER voted on IDOL before last week? And who would have known I'd be voting for David C? The first couple weeks of the finals, his hair gave me cooties! He's cleaned that up, and I've come to really like his voice and his story. Plus, I can be very stubborn (duh!), and I'm fed up with premature coronation of little David!!! I hear they've already been rehearsing him doing the end of season A.I. Anthem...if true, I find that infuriating.

ok.....time for bed.....calming down, now. HUGS!

Dianne Want to hear something really weird? Yesterday I was contacted through classmates.com by a guy I was actually engaged to for a short while when I was 19. I never knew what happened to him. Apparently he's in his second marriage and lives in Oregon. He's a really nice guy. It just blew me away to hear from him.

Just_Lin said...

Night, night, BonO, sleep well.

Just_Lin said...

Darling Zona you have a message. :)

J/L: Hmmmm... custard must be spreading the news!

Just_Lin said...

Whabbear LMAO!!

Good night everyone. I'm calling it a night. Sweet dreams. I'll be back tomorrow. :)

Howdy Owls!!

Congrats on early birdin Birdee hehe.

Fantastic blog VIG.
A couple of years ago, we decided we would begin big changes in our home and habits.
We changed every lightbulb, we bought all new appliances they are energy savers,we have recycled for years, bought all cloth bags for shopping, only use our washer and dryer once a week and use only cold water..... in good weather hang our clothes on the line.
I compost everything I can.(You just can't buy soil even close to being as good as compost)
Our electronics are unplugged until we use them, and we had water saver faucets installed in our tub n shower.
Yes, we could probably do more, but right now, I will commit to continue being aware, and to keep up what we are doing now :o)
Oh we did just buy a new energy saver AC :o) and we are going to try and hold off turning it on for as long as we can.

AI- Oh my Stars, DAVID COOK BLEW ME AWAY.The wee lil hairs on the back of my neck were standing and I had goose bumps all over.
I hope he wins!!!
