Over the Rainbow

Over the Rainbow

by Zona

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10w_sEcHlGs

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

I can remember, when I was just a little girl sitting in front of the television set every year, waiting to see "The Wizard Of Oz". The love of this movie has been with me all of my life. More than the movie though, the song "Over The Rainbow" has always been special to me. Whenever I was sad or lonely I would think of this beautiful song, and wish beyond all logic, that somehow I could get "beyond the rainbow" to ease my pain.

That is what lies Over the Rainbow for me...a place where you don't hurt anymore. Where there is only kindness, laughter, and understanding.

If you could fly over the rainbow, what would you hope to find? Joy? Peace? Happiness? Maybe Johnny Depp? What is beyond the rainbow for you?

OMG, J/L! The "L" word? And you said it back?

This is freakin' amazing! Congrats to you both!

And to help you along, here's a little true story:

My Mom grew up in Noranda, Quebec, with her parents and older brother. His name was Jim, and he and my Mom were always close... they really loved and cared for each other. Throughout his teenage years, Jim was crazy over a girl named Anne, who was also a friend of my Mom. However, the world goes on as it will; Jim went away to college, married his landlord's daughter, and had two children. Anne married an American and moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, and had children of her own.

Fast forward to the late 1980's. In the intervening years, neither marriage worked out at all, and both Anne and Jim endured personal tragedies (one of her sons was killed in a house fire, and Jim's only son died before he was 40 of alcoholism).

By 1988, Jim and Anne hadn't seen each other in decades, but both were (finally) divorced. Completely at loose ends, Jim decided to take a trip from Ontario to the East coast in his camper van. On a whim, he decided to drop in on Anne in Nashua.

Well, the rest was history. They reconnected, fell immediately (back) in love, and got married in 1989. Jim died just this past fall, so they ended up having 18 happy years together!

So you see, miracles like this DO happen! Best of luck to you and Custer!

whab:

what a lovely story. thank you for sharing that.

whabbear said...

YW, k-girl! Now, we have to see about getting you fixed up, too... are there any lesbian bars on Oahu? :O

kahonugrl said...

theres only one womens bar and its only open on fridays.....and to be quite honest I would not want to meet someone there..lol.

The mens bars have more women tourists, and there are plenty of activities where I meet peeps. I think as I have gotten older I have become alot more picky....lol.

I have been lucky enough to be deeply in love with someone, and that is more than some have had. If it is meant to be it will happen.

BUT>>>>>> if you have peeps you know that are coming this way on vacation by all means let me know!

Whabby, what a great story and ending. You aren't still sitting at DIA are you?

J/L; I am so happy for you. It feels like you are 18 again, doesn't it? I guess I did a pretty good job checking him out for you----right?

K-GIRL: Glad to see you put your shell back on as the night air was starting to get cool and you sure don't want to get that cold junk we all had last month!!

TINA: See how so many people like the myspace page you made for me? I still think you are sweet!!

ZONA: What do you have for your Wizard of Oz collection? Is the rumor true that you are getting rid of the collection (and sending it to Goodwill in Denver)?

MEK; Hope you get to one of those baseball games this weekend. Would you be able to pick up a baseball or something for Tina..she has a collection of many sport items!!

DIANNE: If I decide to get rid of it, I will send it right to you..promise. :)

VIG: Thank you, but your post was terrific. :)

WHABBEAR: Gotta love miracles in any form...

whabbear said...

Hi, Dianne and VIG!

Turtle, thanks for the overview of the social scene there! And as they say, better to have loved and lost...

Dianne: I got home about three hours ago, thanks! And all this time in DIA is because United doesn't have any direct flights between San Jose and Houston... they all connect through Denver! :(

OK, off to bed! Night, owls!

Just_Lin said...

Whabbear Good night and thank you for that wonderful story.

Dianne/Denver said...

JODI: We have cheese curds of some type here at AW...are they like those?

Jodi said...

DIANNE - Are they deep fried?

Dianne/Denver said...

JODI, I think so....they can't be as good as Wisconsin ones in Denver!!

Jodi said...

DIANNE - The ones I'm sending you are fresh, yummy, and they squeak when you chew them. Best to eat them at room temperature!!!

Jodi said...

Dianne/Denver said...

JODI, that would be like you buying Rocky Mountain Oysters in Wisconsin when they come from Colorado!! Want me to send some of those to you?

Jodi said...

DIANNE - They are a treat to behold.....almost as good as my potato salad!!!

Jodi said...

DIANNE-ARE-YOU-IN-CRACK-IN-DENVER!!! uh, I think that would be a NO!!! My grandfather was a butchter.....so I have seen many "weird" cuts of "meat". But that one would take the cake!!! But thanks anyway. :P

Dianne/Denver said...

Well, I don't think the salad would mail too great...you know the mayo and all. How will the cheese do with being refrigerated?

Jodi said...

Jodi said...

DIANNE - It will be great - and I found out they will ship them for me!!!

Dianne/Denver said...

Oh and BTW JODI...I am not IN a crack in Denver or on it either :) I will rustle you up a bag full tomorrow. Any preference on the cow type?

Jodi said...

DIANNE - One that says......MOOOOOO!!!!! Although after that poor thing might be saying "two snaps up with a twist"!!!

Jodi said...

Dianne/Denver said...

No, you didn't run over me JODI...I moved as I knew one of your would be coming down the road and I didn't know if it would be you, Zona, Tina or naked Turtle...so I just scooted over!

Dianne/Denver said...

Jodi: The necklace is very pretty but it seems kind of weird to be looking at your chest so much tonight.

Jodi said...

DIANNE - I know TURTLE wouldn't be complaining ;) Did you know that is the necklace I got from ZONA for my b'day?!!? I just love it - and it is so special, especially that it had been her mother's.

Jodi said...

DIANNE - Do you like this one better? It's me and GOLDIE doing lunch and cocktails last Friday!!!

Jodi said...

TINA - Are you home from work yet?

Dianne/Denver said...

Jodi, I did read that it was Zona's mother and it is very pretty. I like seeing it...it just felt weird to be staring at your chest all night!! Good picture of you and Goldie!

That was very thoughtful of Zona to send that to you and how special it is to Zona and to you and the fact that she gave it to you...very nice (just like Zona)!

Dianne/Denver said...

I wonder if the night owls are all in bed or falling asleep. Tina must be very busy tonight. BTW TINA, I was going to tell you that we flew Continental Airlines and they gave us a choice of sandwich, chips and candy bar flying to Houston but only nuts on the way home. I was wondering why they did that as I didn't think you got "free" food anymore.
