Pick a Thought!

to many days are mushed in all together,
at times like this, my thoughts are
scattered, and one incident or another are all
together for me, not to be able to separate them

not really sure this will make any sense

of course it make sense to me as they are my
scattered thoughts, but i don't think in words
it will make sense, but the thoughts are front
and center, and it must be

i am concerned about the economy, everything
is just getting so expensive, and for someone like
i who is considered middle class, there are just things
i cannot afford to do, my salary stays the same, so
where does the extra money come from?

i am concerned about all the unemployed Americans
how will they make it thru, yet the huge companies
insist on outsourcing which i utterly despise, so we
as a country give jobs away to other countries,
this to me makes no sense at all

i am concerned about the election, i am not sure
which way this election will be turning, the more
i see each candidate, the more i listen, the more
i have to go with my gut, and stand behind McCain,
the more i wanted a change i really don't think
i can support Obama, my decisions are based on
many reasons, and for one, i just don't think Obama
can do it, can McCain? well, I do feel he is more
experienced, there are other reasons as well, i will
save them for another blog, when my thoughts
are not so scattered

i am very concerned about customer service, what
the heck happen to that? Where did it go? I am so
tired of battling everyone i come in contact with
over a issue, if the customer service was better
the disputes would be less

i am very concerned for our English language, i find
myself going into restaurants, stores, etc. and not being
able to understand some, as they have not been taught
English, so they speak in their native language to me,
i know no other language, other than English,
how can i get to know someone if i can't understand
them? so the barriers are strong, and will continue
to be

why can't i use the "n" word but some can? when did
that happen, where is the rule book?

i miss rosie!

scattered thoughts, not in any order, just all there

Good morning, and congrats Lynn on first.

Thank you Shirley, for the lovely breakfast and flowers.

Carol~ Your blog reiterates so many issues, we as Americans, are so concerned about. It's obvious you were raised in our country at a time when wholesome values were taught. I, like you, am not understanding when the acceptance of anything less occured.

This day and age is so very much different than when I was a little girl. It now seems that when we venture out into our society and expect cordial responses from fellow Americans, we are so often met with unpleasantness. Not always, but often.

I doubt very seriously, that our government, a hundred years ago, would have allowed American workers to have starving families, while approving and subsidizing foreign out-sourceing of labor.

This is the bountiful country that supported itself without the influx of cheaply made goods from foreign lands and the rush of immagrants that refuse to learn the language that founded this country, because they..."Have their rights". Often they choose to use our fields of crops as bathrooms causing nationwide illnesses, which is so unacceptable.

Sometimes, I can go through a check-out line and never hear the voice of my checker. There is no, "Have a nice day, Thank you for shopping with us, or, How are you today". Not even a "Kiss my ass".

This has turned into a novel, and I am sorry.

Just don't get me started.

Lynn D said...

Yes I have scattered thoughts too. Only about what is going on in my real life.

I have less scattered thoughts about the election as I have done so much research on the issues and what it came down to for me are a few things.

I can't vote for a candidate that is willing to take my rights away from me as a woman. The attempt right now is to have all birth control including the pill declared abortionistic and that anyone in the medical arena that feels it is against their religious beliefs will be able to deny to me access to these medications. To me this is a slippery slope if we start here what about people who need access to drugs for AIDS? Some in the religious community feel that AIDS is a punishment from god. Some women need access for a plethora of reasons not just birth control. This would take away my choice in no uncertain terms unless I was rich enough to pay for my own. The rights of the others you ask? They have the right to chose another profession if this one does not suit them.

Education is another issue with me, and In the last 8 years I have watched the government funding being whittled away and sent to a military fund.

Health care I don't see a perfect answer from either candidate, but I what I do see from McCain's answer will be disaster. He wants to rewrite employer funded healthcare and let them have the option to offer it or not. How many employers do you think will offer it given a choice? He will give you a $5000.00 dollar tax credit but only after you have paid that much out for health insurance. Anyone out there know where I can get health care for $5000.00 If you do sign me up. The burden this plan would put on our medical system, that is already stressed to the breaking point will take it down.

Single payer while not perfect does let you stay in your current employer based health plan or any plan you chose if you can pay for it and lets those who do not have health care buy some for a small fee every month. So you have a choice here and seems more reasonable to me.

Next staying in a "war" we can not win. We are beyond that now and I will never vote for a candidate that thinks we should stay there for the next 50 to hundred years, especially since the Iraqi people are asking us to leave. This administration and even Senator McCain have all said when they ask us to leave we will do the right thing and start bringing our troops home. Well it seems that is just another untruth.

Lastly I have watched over the last 6 months a "War Hero" Vote against every bill to help our military people. He would not vote for the GI Bill and turned it down on several occasions and did not show up to even vote when it did pass and then took credit for it. This is just wrong. He wants to down grade post traumatic stress disorder so that we can send the damaged and wounded soldiers back into the fight. He also has proposed cutting medical benefits to older Veterans so that they can balance the costs for soldiers wounded and coming home. I am sorry these issues are to me are deal breakers.

It seems to me that the only people who have experience to be president are past presidents. Because someone has a long record in the senate means nothing to me. There have been many that have "experience" I would just shudder to have as president.

There are more but I will quit here. These are my thoughts and my thoughts only. I have really been paying attention in this election and reading everything I can get on both candidates.

If you are wondering I am an Independent. This year I will be voting for Obama. He is not perfect and I don't agree on every issue with him but I feel he will try very hard to make things better for ALL Americans.

If you need clear information www.FactCheck.org is the best source.

Now I am off to feed people at the foodbank where the lines just get longer. This in my opinion is from the failed policies of this administration for the last 8 years.

Sorry for the long post and I am not trying to provoke or make people mad just stating my opinion.

Good Morning Hooters!

Lynn- 1st again, good for you!

I was foaded all last night. I felt like someone left me on the naughty mat and wouldn't let me off :(

I have random thoughts all the time, which turn into random worries. As for Lynn's post there is not one single word I disagree with- thanks for saving me the time of posting all of that!

I often say that being a war hero (which McCain is) does not qualify you to be president any more then my breaking my ankle qualified me to be an orthepedic surgeon. I have total respect for what he went thru and the service he provided, but I believe he will lead us down a path we have been on way too long already. JMHO

We are leaving tomorrow night for MI to my sisters summer home, and staying until Monday night. My sister is a staunch Obama supporter, my BIL is for McCain. Actually, he was a huge Obama supporter too when he ran in Illinois, but now that he wants to tax the higher incomes, my BIL is against him. Should make for interesting converstation this weekend!

Ronniegirl- One of my pet peeves is the not talking at the checkout. A simple "kiss my ass" (in English) would be nice once in awhile.

Wonderful breakfast Shirley**** loading up my plate to heat up later.

Hi Joey and Carol and all the other Hooters who fly in after me.

Now I am hoping this posts and I don't get Foad again!

Ok, here is another random thought I often have had:

If my child is an adult at age 18 and I have no rights to any information pertaining to his medical records, school records, etc., Then why must I give out my personal information on student loan info? The gov says that until he is 25 they will use our income and assets to determine what he gets. This always totally irratated the shit out of me.

We always told our kids we would pay for 1/2 or our sons schooling they were responsible for 1/2. So when it time to get there loans, they only qualified for the bare minimum. When one went to private school in London for 2 1/2 years- it was private loans (which he will be paying back until he is 125) but no problem getting them, just have a cosigner.

I have often pondered what do kids do who's parents wont give out all their info? Or kids who don't have contact or good relationships with their folks? And are you aware that the kids have full access to all the info you provide on your finances on their loan applications? Hmmm....

We are having a heat wave today. It will hit 30 C which is almost 90 F. That is hot for us. Tomorrow it will cool off so the heat wave will be short lived.

WOW, Carol~~Some heavy thinking for an early morning. In addition to all the concerns mentioned, one I can't stop thinking about lately is how much of America is no longer owned BY America. In fact, I almost submitted a blog on the subject a couple weeks ago when Abu Dhabi bought the Chrysler Building, but didn't want to bore everyone to tears. So many 'All-American' companies, so many iconic buildings, so much real-estate, even highway systems and financial institutions are foreign-owned-------and has anyone noticed that we're in hock to China up to our eyebrows??? One brief article that paints a not-so-pretty picture is:

AMERICAN (? ) ICONS

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Carol your concerns for the econemy, unemployment, the election, customer service and the English language are shared with many, many other people. What do you do? What can you do? The price of everthing is going up. The idea of a secure, long term, full-time job is just that for most of us...an idea. I know most of you live in the USA, but I have to tell you these concerns are not unique to the USA. Many of these concerns are global. As important as I know this election is for you, I hope that once it is over, you as Americans, can come together and solve some of the problems that so desperately need attention. When I think of the millions and millions of dollors that have been spent and are still being spent on this almost two year election, I just shake my head. These are just my opinions, but come on, no wonder you have scattered thought...your brain is on overload.

Carol when you find the rule book on the "n" word can I borrow it please? I've listened to people explain the "n" word and why it's ok for some to use it but not others and I still don't understand it. Well these are my thoughts for now. If I haven't offended anyone I might have more to say later.

Goldie~I've always liked your haircut, but go for it, especially if you itemize at tax time. You might even throw in a mani/pedi.

whabbear said...

OK, on my "lunch hour", here's an attempt at a repost:

Carol, while your thoughts may be encompassing many topics and issues, they are also clear and incisive. Bravo!!

I cannot vote for John McCain. Here's an itemized list of some of the more personal reasons why:

1. There is one official US government policy still left on the books that prevents people from pursing the occupation of their choice, not because they aren't capable of doing the job, but because of prejudice and bigotry. In other words, one policy that amounts to workplace discrimination.

That policy is Don't Ask, Don't Tell. It is based on claims that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in our military will have deleterious consequences, such as negatively impacting unit cohesion and hurting recruitment efforts.

These claims have been shown to be baseless through the experience of other countries, such as Canada and Britain, that do allow gays to serve openly. This leaves bigotry and prejudice as the only legitimate bases for the policy.

John McCain supports Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

2. As most of you know, I'm about to marry Huz (the future "Mr Whabbear"!) in October. My marriage still won't be equal to a heterosexual marriage, however, because the federal government won't recognize it. That means that if I predecease him, Huz won't

A) get my social security benefits.

B) get my federal pension.

There is little hope that my marriage will be recognized at the federal level by a McCain administration.

3) There is a California proposition on the ballot in November, Proposition 8, to modify California's state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. There is a strong possibility that my marriage will be annulled if this proposition passes. Huz has a condo up in San Francisco, and the plan is for us to live there once we both retire.

Huz has willed the condo to me in the event he dies. However, the condo is under a middle income housing program run by the city of San Francisco. I don't quality for the program. If he dies and we're not married, I'd immediately have to sell the condo (at about 40% market value) to a person selected by the city.

Bye, bye, retirement plan.

John McCain supports Proposition 8.

I hope all this didn't come across as too materialistic, but I'm trying to make some concrete points here about the actual impact, on one of your fellow owls, of a McCain presidency.

As women, you all know about the decades-long struggle you've had to wage for equality, in the workplace and in your marriages.

I support that struggle wholeheartedly. I could no more vote for a presidential candidate who promotes and supports discriminatory policies toward women than I could vote for a monkey. I respect you all too much!

goldie said...

Amen Bear- as the mother of a gay man I echo your sentiments totally. Always have and always will. The whole sorry mess is akin to white supremecy in my mind- you gays don't deserve the same rights.

Now, on a serious note- depending on the size of your government pension I would be happy to marry you so you have a legal heir ;)
(Oh wait, Mr. Goldie might have a problem with that)

What the hell, if we are living a lie by denying you and Huz your rights we might as well lie about out "love and marriage".

Ok, I am 1 hour from the haircut! I am goin got do it. Oh geezzzzzzzz

hartldo said...

Bear: For those reasons and MANY others, I cannot vote for McCain. I will NOT vote for McCain.

I've already broken a personal rule I made for myself when I came here....I swore I wouldn't talk religion or politics, or give advice about hair cuts. ;)

goldie said...

donna- i have a much easier time voting for a politician then cutting my hair- so your support is sorely needed!!!!

Besides, now that I know my Red heels and new hairdo are tax write offs I am feeling much better..

hartldo said...

Was that tax write-off approved by the current administration?

Sandie said...

Congrats on first, Lynn D! And, I agree with everything you said! I have to say NO to McCain!!

Carol, my thoughts stay scattered so I know what you mean. I love the picture you chose--it looks so COOL there--it's 105 here today!! I know ZonaBaby doesn't complain but I am!

Donna and sacbarb, I agree with you. As far as the "n" word goes, I hate it. I don't think it's ok for anyone to say it. It's a derogatory word and brings up feelings of hatred no matter who uses it. JMHO.

Ronnie, come visit me--everyone is friendly here! My ear is talked off everywhere I go! I guess it's a southern thing. LOL

Goldie, you have such a pretty face that I'm sure whatever you do with your hair will look great. Be brave!

Shirley, thanks for breakfast! I miss your red high heels, too! You looked awesome in them. They can be hard to walk in, though--especially if you're wearing tassels--did I read that right??? LOL

Just got my hair cut--my soap opera hair salon was pretty quiet today. I think the alcoholic bitch was on vacation.

Hello to everyone else!!

Sandie said...

I hope ya'll remember that story about my salon last month or so--I don't want you to think I'm crazy calling someone an alcoholic bitch!! Sorry!

Lynn D said...

Hey gang! I have to say I approached my MS page with trepidation, I thought maybe a few of you might delete me for my outspoken post this morning. Thank you for not doing so!

Just wanted to say those are just a few of my reasons and there have been some excellent posts by others that have covered many other issues for me!

Great post Whabby I so agree.

Goldie: Throw caution or hair to the wind and go for something new! wohoo! I am thinking about it. My regular gal is laid up with very serious back problems and I just called her to see if she would be upset if I made an appt. to get it done somewhere else until she is back on her feet. She said go for it, but is sure I will not be happy and will come whining back to her after I have it done. I can't wait my bangs are in my eyes and the gray streak is a mile wide! LOL

I like many others have ceased to worry about the n word. I kind of get the reasoning now about why some can use it and some can't. Just like I get totally pissed off if I hear a man call a woman a bitch but not so much if I hear a woman do it. We as woman have claimed it as our own and I think that is what is happening with the n word.

Now like bono I am very concerned about everything being bought up by foreign entities. Scares me what will we have left to call our own if this continues?

Ok gang I am exhausted and I am right we had 5 more families show up today and at one point I had a line out the door. What keeps me from getting depressed is all of the people who say thank god you are here to help.

I will be back later to hear about goldies haircut and if it will help her new profession! LOL

Shirley you are on a roll today keeping me laughing!

Hart LOL was the tax write off approved by the current administration?? No but will be if you spend $5,000.00! ROFLMAO

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Wow, such a thought provoking Blog, and even more interesting points and counter-points.

It's almost too much for me to take in and comprehend right now.

We had a long day at Kaiser. But a very successful one!
The Dr's are all now on the same page. Laurie had her 24 Holter Monitor put on this afternoon, and she is scheduled to have her pacemaker implanted next week! YAY!! Then, she will be all ready for her Catherization and stent at UCSF in September.

I wish I could comment more on all the extremely interesting and important posts, but to be perfectly honest, I am both physically and emotionally exhausted today!

I did read them though, and they were all very well written with valid points. I cannot give you my personal opinion. Just know that I agree mostly with Lynn, Ronnie and Bear. I just cannot imagine what another 4 years of a Republican in the White House would do. It is too scary to even think about! And, we still have that awful "Governator/State Employee Job Terminator" in office here in California. I would like to see Arnold live on the $6.55 minimum wage! Talk about LOL!!!

I am off now to rest a bit, have a glass of wine, (isn't it 5:00 somewhere) and watch some mindless TV!

Peace and Love to All, Donna Jean

Just saw you perhaps wondering if you would be deleted on ms, if that was the case with all that I have said in the last 7months, one would think I would have 0 friends....

As long as you don't end up looking like "amy winehouse" and my manicurist, I think you will be fine..

I want to thank everyone for sharing their opinions in a peaceful owl way.

I cannot always blog about my comings and goings, and at times there will be a blog that will stir up different opinions. I want to be me, as all these blogs are my thoughts, and they are very real... If I don't blog about my true feelings than this blog will take on a different meaning, and from the start this blog and my blogging was intended to be truth from the start...

Thanks again

Jodi, Iteach and Just lin I want to thank you for your comments on my blog yesterday and today. My poems are just a jumble of words and feelings, nothing great. Thank you to everyone who has read them and commented.

I'm backkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

My hairdresser thought I lost my mind. He knows how long it takes to grow my hair so when I said "cut it" the poor man almost fainted!

So, we layered it, shortening the sides and leaving the back about the same. We are going to cut it a little shorter next time so that we don't err on the "too short" side. I feel like I have 5 pounds 9ounces?) off my head. So "bob" is gone and I am working my way into my "pro" look. So far I like it...:)

SYTYCD is on- can you believe that I will be in a car driving to MI tomorrow night and will miss the finale??? SHOT ME!

I forgot to say thanks about the lovely comments you guys!

A good friend just pointed out to me that it is going to be long haul until November. :0 lol

Well, what can I say, I'm from Illinois. I love my Senator.

This reminds me of the time when I was in labor with Carolyn. My doctor, who I love dearly, is a strong republican.

He assumed my husband was for whatever reason. Anyway, while I was pushing they got into a heated disussion about the economy.

I so badly wanted Carolyn out that I was ready to switch parties!!!! :)

I've been working from home today and just now got a chance to catch up on the blog.

Carol Another great blog!

As for the "N" word. Maybe it's kind of like being called a "crackwhore" here on the blog. Perfectly acceptable. I sure wouldn't want the checker at the gross-ry store calling me that. Totally unacceptable.

Lynn D Another great early arrive to the blog. LOL

I agree with you. If the candidate doesn't support women's rights, I can't vote for them. It's a deal breaker for me.

Shirley Listen to your universe. You are a writer. Your poems are very good. Plus, you looked really good in the red Ho pumps. :)

Goldie Phew! For a minute I thought you got rid of your BOB, not your bob. LOL

Tinka You are loved EVERY day.

Glad to hear your positive news, Donna Jean!

So happy you're happy with your hair, goldie!

I'm going to try to sleep in just a bit. Just wanted to check back in and say Good Night!
Peace!

Okay, I have to go back to work. I should have done this yesterday but my printer had a nervous breakdown and wouldn't work. I was hoping that giving it a "time out" over night would improve its attitude, but no such luck. I spent several hours today working on it and I actually fixed it! Hooray for me! BBL

Just_Lin said...

DonnaJean Hugs to you and Laurie Elizabeth. So glad the docs are on the same page, FINALLY!

iteach said...

Goodnight Ronniegirl! Thanks for "seeing" me, I have felt invisible recently! :) Sweet Dreams

iteach said...

Thank you Bebbi, I'm doing fine.

Oh, Ronnie, I loved being tucked in. Will you read me a story?

Seriously, hubby does a lot and I fall asleep peacefully while he is reading to me.

iteach said...

Bebbi, I see you!!!! :)

RonnieGirl said...

iteach~ Don't make me come up there. lol

iteach said...

Oh, do come up here. Today was a very stressful day and I could use some fun!

RonnieGirl said...

Okay, I'll read you a little story. Once upon a time,
there was a girl from ole Kentuck, she......sorry, wrong story.

See you at breakfast.

Good night.

iteach said...

Good night, Ronnie!

You make me smile!

Bebbi, how was your day?

Bebbilane said...

Hi iteach, shew I am glad you see me! :) I am doing okay. Have to go to an ortho surgeon for my knee. I have "thinning of the cartilage" and am on pain medication. But really, I am doing pretty well. I just wish I could do more and not get so much pain, I am getting behind on things.

Bebbilane said...

I volunteer for the women's center and had to go on a hospital run tonight. Thank goodness I slept for an hour this evening! I didn't get done until 10:30.

iteach said...

Oh, Bebbi, so sorry about that! Do you think you will have to have another surgery?

Bebbilane said...

I never had a surgery yet, and the doctor said he didn't think it would be something that I would have to have surgery for right away. I may have to start getting shots, I just don't know what the options are yet.

iteach said...

Whatever, it is Bebbi, I hope it all heals fast.

Bebbilane said...

Thanks! I think it is getting old and using my knees too hard when I was younger, but thats the way it goes. Thanks a lot though! :)

Just_Lin said...

Bebbi I always see you. I'm sorry if I made you feel like I don't.

iteach Waving a wing at you, too.

Okay, I have to leave now and go back to work. :(

Bebbilane said...

j/l - have a great night at work. I know that people see me, just I am in and out so fast, sometimes I feel that way. All my insecurities rearing its ugly lil head! :) No worries. I will whine when I get needy..hehe.

Bebbilane said...

Okay, I have to get up at 7am, so I am off to bed. Night night Owlios!

whabbear said...

LOL! I need to at least see a photo of Mr iteach first !

whabbear said...

Good night, Bebbi !

Donna Jean said...

OK, East Coasters are most likely in bed, getting ready for bed, or HAVING FUN IN BED!

Hope it is the latter!

Just flew in for a quick good night to all.

It has been a long day, and I feel those crappy cramps starting.

I am thinking more and more that it is not a vitamin/mineral deficiency. I am taking all the reccommended pills, done the execises, even had to have a hot shower last night at 1:00 am just to try to loosen the stomach muscles, which are the hardest and most painful, and give me some relief!

My PCP at Kaiser is out on maternity leave, so if I make an appt, they won't really know me. But, I am fairly positive it has to be related to stress. My back surgery was 2 yrs ago, and although the Doc said I would still feel a few cramps and numbness on my left leg, it
would be nothing to worry about.
Well, these leg cramps, and stomach spasms are NOT ANYTHING like I felt 2 yrs ago.

I thought that with getting Laurie settled down a bit that these anxiety pains would resolve themselves.

Some days when life is OK, (not great, don't want to ask for too much, Dear Lord) I am ok, then there are days like today, and especially right now that I just KNOW that I will not have a restful sleep.

I am going to try to go to bed, and hope I can get a few hours of sleep without the spasms returning. I think a muscle relaxer is called for.

till tomoorow everyone, Sweet Dreams and a restful nights sleep!
Donna Jean

DJ: Yuck!! Do you have any vicodins or percocets in the house?

hartldo said...

Good Gracious! I said goodnight a long time ago and I'm still not in bed! It's 2:29 a.m.! How will I ever be ready to go back to school/work if I keep these hours?

Hope you're sleeping by now Donna Jean. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well.

I really MUST get to bed now. REALLY!

whabbear said...

Donna: Get thee to bed! LOL! And don't be first tomorrow morning!

I doubt there will be any chance of me being first. LOL!
