Corruption

by Bonachichi

My oldest daughter loved public school. She made friends easily and was an avid learner. That changed in the 4th grade, under the tutelage of a Ms. Jamie Brown. Jamie Brown was verbally abusive. Not just to my daughter, but to any child who dared to be noticed by her when she was in one of her moods. I saw it myself. My dad saw it. I believe what my daughter told me about Ms. Brown's behavior when parents weren't in the classroom. If there was a child who wasn't reduced to tears in that class, I'm unaware of it.

In March of that school year, I requested a meeting with the principal to discuss this. It just seemed so wrong! The principal, Mr. Ackerman, informed me that I was the problem. Nobody else had complained and Ms. Brown was in fact, a highly respected teacher throughout the school district. Oak Park Unified. I've no problem naming names.

A couple weeks later, I was talking with a few of the parents. I learned that of the 4 of us, 3 had complained about this very same teacher, and we had all been told we were the only ones with complaints. Describing me as "livid" is like describing a hurricane as "a few rain sprinkles". After some thought, I went back to Mr. Ackerman and called him out. I didn't want a big to-do, I just wanted my daughter out of that class. He refused my request. He refused my request to move her to a different school within the district. So I filed a complaint with the District Office and pulled her out of public school altogether.

As of a couple years ago, Jamie Brown was still teaching, still abusing students. What a shame. Teaching is such a noble profession, yet I've nothing but vile disrespect for it. Not because there aren't good teachers, but because I've seen a corrupt system that directly impacts our children. People like our beloved Jennifer are being thrown in the same heap of trash that the school administrators are diligently building. This helps nobody except those who have no business being around children in the first place.

There is talk about establishing an evaluation system for teachers in California. I don't know the deatila, other than some group doesn't want it. Of course they don't. How will they keep their dirty little secrets? California is one of the lowest ranking states for education. No wonder. The teachers are running amok, the administrators are busy ignoring problems and villifying parents.

These days, we are seeing corruption and back-room deals everywhere. From Rod Blagojevich to the city of Bell. Even our schools. Is there hope for the future?  Is your locale free from scandal?

I can only remember having one 2 bad teachers...in college. Paying hard earned money for an education and I had to drop the 2 classes and delay my graduation, as I switched majors so there would be no chance of ever having to end up with those professors again.

Oh, I remember a bad one in high school...he was drunk all the time and often forgot to come to class!

Hi Mo!

You are absolutely stunning!

I am up early as I have to work (doing my other job today).

I had a terrible teacher, Ms. Johnson, I think 2nd grade. She was very mean and would shake students who didn't behave or do what she wanted.

I remember one time standing in a line, I must not have been standing right as she came over and grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me and pushed me into the "right" position.

I'll never forget the hatred in her eyes, I was terrified!

Now days she would never get away with that.

I will be back later! Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

EBJ...good morning! You reminded me of my 3rd grade teacher. I had a health issue and she wouldn't believe it. She said I was faking and didn't want to be in school. After spending a week in the hospital, she was mortified and so apologetic! I was the teacher's pet after that :)

Good Morning!

I don't remember having any really bad teachers. There were a couple I had personality conflicts with..but not enough to make me not want to go to school. What I find interesting is that I remember the names of all of my grade school and high school teachers..even though I can't remember if I watched Big Brother the other night! This just proves to me how much of an impact teachers make on our lives..whether we realize it at the time or not. Funny though..I don't remember any of my college profs names..hmmmm..

..I did have a 6th grade teacher who used corporal punishment on the boys who acted up in class. Not a day went by that you didn't hear the echo of a wooden paddle being used to smack good behavior into someone in the breezeway. At that time we actually thought he was a 'good' teacher..he kept everyone in line. How times have changed!

MO: You are radiant this morning..and I love you for it! :D

EBJ: I had a teacher in 5th grade that my friends and I still talk about..he had the most horrible breath..and he would lean right down in your face to talk to you. His dentures didn't fit and he'd end up spitting on you..ugh..

DEEDEE: If you liked a good spanking..you would have loved Mr L..ijs.. ;)

TINA: My 7th grade Science teacher was the only hot one I remember..but he made up for all the ones that weren't..so damn cute..

I'm so over the heat here..time for a cool down..and let it start......NOW! ;)

Have a nice Saturday everyone!

Hi everyone! Yesterday I wore my first sweatshirt since I put it away last spring! Mr Mary just pulled out his leather coat. It is cold and raining. Nuff said...

Bonachi, I was lucky to have very good teachers all through school. The only one who was a little strange was my Latin teacher, but then she was Catholic (for Tina) lol!!
The one I didn't like was my band instructor. He was a bear! I remember once he yelled at me for not having my clarinet in my mouth properly (hey, I was a virgin!), he reached over and shoved it (clarinet)into my mouth so hard that it cut the roof of my mouth. Pissed me off! He would yell at the students so bad, that we could see the veins in his neck pop and his face would turn dark red! may he RIP!

Have a great nite all!!!

Evening Owls,

Mo you are sooooo beautiful!

I have had a couple of bad apple teachers but my kids had only one. I went to the superintendent and the problem was taken care of. There are good and bad in every profession and sometimes you have to go to the top.

EBJ just wanted to say Congratulations!

Happy Saturday Owls.

I had strict teachers, but I don't remember any really bad ones or mean ones. From the fourth grade through Junior year in high school, they were all nuns. I don't remember most of my college profs.

I was an active parent when my kids were in school, and in some cases I requested a certain teacher for my sons. I worked for the State Dept. of Education when my kids were in elementary school, so I had an 'in' and I took every advantage of it.

Good evening feathered friends!

MARY...I had a sweatshirt on this morning, too! Now it is raining. Hey, I played the clarinet, too!

ZONA...you'd cool down if you stopped riding your new washer:)~

LYNN...did Ritchie have a fun birthday? It's cute the names he has for you and mama and honey!!

SACBARB...you flew in while I was typing! BTW, how is you granddog doing? Wasn't he/she sick back in June or so?

Good evening Owls!

Hi Maureen, EBJ, DeeDee, Tina, Zona Mary and Lynn D.

Congrats on 1st Mo! *she says while rolling her eyes*

I don't remember any abusive teachers...some stupid ones...but not abusive ones. Most teachers (I'll say 95%) care about what they are doing and care about the kids they teach. Unfortunately politics makes it hard for them to do their job properly. Money just isn't as available for education as it is for politicans to go on "business" trips and spend millions on political campaigns. These are just MY opinions.

Those "teachers" who are abusive to students should be thrown in jail and the key should be lost! IMHO

Happy Birthday Ritchie! Did he have a theme birthday party? I love those!

Hi Mo, Canton was doing a little better, although yesterday Todd said he would hardly eat. They put his meds in his food so they are worried he didn't get his full dose of meds. They are going to take him back to the Vet on Monday. Thanks for asking.

Good evening!

Just for the record, MR. EBJ and I have been married for a while...

Last week, I almost fell off my chair when he asked me to help him get set up on FB.

This is a man who is very much against putting pics, info, etc. on the internet. I was shocked!

Anyway, yesterday he wanted me to help him update a few things, so when I typed in married and my name, it sent me an email that I had to verify was me (surprised I didn't have to send in a copy of the marriage license!)

Then appeared the new status!

So thank you to all who congratulated me! hee hee :)

SacBarb, what is the diagnosis for Canton? I remember you mentioning he was sick a while back.

Poor baby.

I am happy to read that for the most part, we all had good teachers. I guess there are always those, like in any profession, that you wonder what they are doing there.

Goldie and Jodi, my 2 brothers are both headed to Madison this week. Their college fraternity is having a reunion there.

See ya'll tomorrow!

MO You're beautiful every day and I'd never hate you for it.

Bonach Very interesting blog. What a pity that the rotten apple was able to remain in a position to degrade students instead of inspiring and teaching them.

I was lucky in that I had good teachers. There were some that were pretty stern but none were mean or degrading. My son had trouble with a PE teacher in high school who would make fun of him and ridicule him over his asthma. This is an illness that has sent my son to the hospital on many occasions. Anyway, he quit school and got a GED instead, because of that "teacher".

Waving a wing at all the Owls and wishing you all sweet dreams.
