Brave...

I watched the "Farrah Story" it was absolutely heart wrenching, by whole being hurt for her. It was a true story of Cancer at its core and very well done. I commend her for documenting her everyday war. As one of her doctors explained, "Cancer is a terrorist, very hard to beat down" Many of us have been thru it, we watched, we saw.

And yet with every horror story of Cancer, we do hear of amazing recoveries, I know our scientist's are trying, and I will hope one day a cure will be.

Real,
Emotional,
Brave,
Personal,
Raw,
Life....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONO AND JIGGLIN IN JAX!

Did not watch the Farrah story as I was sound asleep by then. I don't think I could have watched it as cancer is a subject that tears me up.

I spent all day at a seminar for food banks yesterday and I am still exhausted. Going to hit the coffee and will be back.

Good morning!

Happy, happy birthday Jax!!

Congrats on 1st Birdee! Sorry you have a headache...

We watched the Farrah story last night, too.

It was just gut wrenching. MR. EBJ and I were talking afterwards about how fortunate she was to be able to go to Germany for alternative treatment. It is so sad that we can't get that here, as how many people could afford that many trips, plus treatment?

My mom has battled and survived breast cancer, my dad has had both bladder and colon cancer.

I've lost many relatives and good friends to the terrorist disease, one being my best friend at age 49 to breast cancer.

My aunt Nancy (who my Nancy the kitty is named after) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She went for experimental treatment at the MD Anderson hospital in Texas, and lived 18 months longer than she was given.

They treated her with some Chinese herbal medication, in addition to traditional treatment.

I am thankful that Farrah shared her battle. Maybe it will help in some way. I'd love to see people not have to travel to another country for help.

We are taking Poe for his yearly check up this morning. He is due for blood tests, which his dr. makes look effortless.

Well, that is what MR. EBJ has told me, as I can't watch my birdie get poked!

Supposed to be 100 hot degrees this weekend! yikes.

BBL, have a nice day everyone!

Good Morning Carol. Great blog as usual. My sister was still vibrant at her 71st birthday. Suddenly she got sick, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was gone in three months. I still can't believe she is dead. I still can't watch any sad stories. I also have trouble watching shows that we would watch together "on the phone". Maybe next year I will be able to watch the Academy awards and the Country Music awards. Grieving is such a long process.

Tinkatia said...

Shirley - Parts of the west did get snow which is so unusual for the month of May.

Happy Victoria Day Weekend by the way. How are you celebrating? We are having the usual family barbecues. On Monday is the Victoria Day parade. Bands come from all over the Western states to be a part of it. There are about 100 floats. It is 4 hours long, too long for me. I watch it on T.V.

I just read this in our newspaper and thought I would share because of today's topic...

There is a web site for Free home cleaning service's for anyone dealing with Cancer. It's...
www.cleaningforareason.org.
click on "what's new", then on "customer's and friend's"...in the first paragraph you will see a highlighted "click here"...that will take you to a map and a list of cities and state's where they are available. Right now they are in 45 state's.
Maybe it could help someone♥

HAPPY BRTHDAY JAX!! Are you jiggling today???

I watched the Farrah Story last night. Now mind you, I cry at awards ceremonies, the National Anthem, any story that tugs my heart and god help me if it is a child suffering commercial. That being said- I didn't shed a tear last night.

I didnt find it sad. I found it inspirational and very brave. I too felt she was very fortunate to be able to do all the alternative treatments. So did Farrah by the way she talks about the health care system.

I thought the whole thing was a great tribute to her, her friend Alana, Ryan and the doctors.

Hope everyone has a great day today. Its chilly and WINDY here!

Tinkatia said...

Shirley - Victoria Day Weekend is a 'big deal' here. I don't think it's because our city shares the name. When I was a kid it was called Dominion Day and there were huge Indian regattas on the Gorge waterway and I think just about everyone in town went to the parade. Back then it was always May 24, Queen Victoria's birthday. Somewhere along the way they changed it to the Monday before the 24th to make it a long weekend. We always had our first picnic of the year on May 24th and our first sunburn of the year. I don't think it's as warm in May now as it was back then. I don't know if the weather has changed or if it's my memory.

Fuzzy Butt Birdee Congrats on #1 today.

Shirley What happened? Were you busy twirling your tassels?

Tinka Your sister would hate it that you are missing the shows that you always enjoyed together.

MEK Howdy! Missed you!

LynnD I so admire you for all you do for the food bank.

EBJ I am so excited about you getting your baby kitty. I wonder what Poe will think.

Carol I watched the Farrah special, too. It was so brave of her to show such intimacies to the world. My husband died of cancer so I know what a hideous thing it is. I had thyroid cancer and had the gland removed. Fortunately, there was no sign of the disease in any surrounding tissues.

Hey hooters!

Goldie, I thought I would cry through the whole show last night, too.

I cried twice, once was when she went for her last scans and found the tumors were growing and the aggressive treatment didn't work.

The second was when her son came to visit, and he was shackled and handcuffed.

Poe did very well for his appt. this morning. His vet is so wonderful, he loves his job and it shows.

I turn away when he draws the blood, Poe did not make a peep and it was as if nothing happened.

We are going to look at houses this afternoon with my MIL. Then come home and clean the pool, and swim.

It is very warm out already, creeping to 100. Feels like we are in Arizona! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAX!!!

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday..I think this poem is fitting today..We are never guaranteed tomorrow!

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say "Hi"?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks so much for the prayers and hugs, please keep on...The onocoligist says she is too weak for treatment. The timeline he gave is 4-6 months. I think that is just a standard reply. She is still in the hospital and I am going there for about eight hours a day. The amount of times I have had to help her or go get a nurse is very freaky and makes me worry about when I'm not there...Last night she had an "episode" and instead of giving her Morphine (which she has Dr. orders for) they held her hand and told her to "calm down" How in Gods name can you calm down when you can't breathe??? I had a freakin fit when I heard that and went and got her nurse and had Mom tell her what happened. She was not the one on last night and seems very good. She said that she would talk to the night nurse when she came on and also told Mom to ask for the Morphine when that happens as it calms her and helps the breathing. I had to go get the nurse again when Mom's nose started gushing blood and I couldn't get it to stop. I cannot tell you how scared I am about her coming home...(I have no idea when that will be) I have no medical training, how the hell am I gonna know what to do? She wants to come home and misses her dog. (btw thank you for your comments about that too, I have calmed down a bit and am going to see if I can acclimate him to cats...please pray for that too if you don't mind and any suggestions on just how to do that would be very welcome) I can't tell you what it means to me to be able to come here to vent a bit. I have not had time to read the comments, but I did check MySpace a few minutes ago and your messages and comments there really helped! Thanks...

goldie said...

Oh Scrishy- I am so sorry you have to deal with all of this- as does your Mom. Ask the Dr. if she can have the Morphine drip where she can control it with the push of a button. She should NOT have to suffer.

The cats will adjust to the dog- don't worry. You will adjust too.
Please call Hospice when she is ready to go home. They will be invaluable to you. They are true Angels and will make all your lives so much better an will give her dignity and loving card.

Holding your hand in support and don't forget we are all here for you. Just ask if you need us.. :)

Just_Lin said...

scirish My thoughts are still with you and your mother. Keep a pad of paper and pen with you and write down all your questions and concerns and go over them with the doctor. Perhaps they will set her up to have a nurse come by her home daily to check on things. Will they send her home with a portable oxygen tank? Let the doctor know how concerned you are about her homecare. As for the timeline, all they can do is give it their best guess, but it's still just a guess. (((HUGS)))

Scirish - My thoughts and love are with you at this difficult time for you and your mom. I would DEMAND that your mom gets the pain relief she needs. Some doctors are reluctant to give as much drugs as they are allowed to in order to control the pain. I don't understand them at all. We have had this experience and sometimes one just has to get demanding. ((((Hugs))))

OMG guys.. Star Trek was freakin fanowltastic.. I loved every second of it..

The casting was astounding, all the young actors that played the original actors were right on, you actually knew who they were going to be as soon as you saw them.. Scotty was riot. Spock was so Spock it was chilling. And James T Kirk.. so real, and may I say so handsome... Chris Pine did a fantastic job, even his walk reminded me of James T. Kirk

I recommend this movie to all, as it really is a new generation starting a whole new movie trend, I am 100% sure they will make another one, with this cast, and this will go on as the original Star Trek goes on..

Can you tell I loved it...
