WAKE UP!

by Just_Lin

I have never been a morning person and I really hate hearing the alarm clock go off. One of the best things about being retired is not having to set the alarm except for rare occasions.

When I used to work full time, there were days I'd hit that snooze button until it just plain ran out........and I'd keep on sleeping. When I used to have the clock radio set to have music come blasting on to wake me, I'd end up incorporating the music into my dream........and I'd keep on sleeping. More than once, my loud music woke my daughter in the next bedroom but only her pounding on my bedroom door got me to wake up. Even my brother had to wake me up when he was visiting and my alarm woke him when he was sleeping on the couch in the living room, There are times I have turned the alarm completely off and awakened later with no memory of that at all.

No matter what kind of alarm it is....music, clanging, beeping, or buzzing....alarms are just plain rude. It seems they always wake you right during the deepest, most restful time of your sleep. Plus, that's when the bed feels absolutely the best....perfect, in fact. No matter how long it may have taken you to fall asleep the night before, that bed could not be more perfect in the morning when that alarm jolts you awake. The pillow is arranged perfectly under your head, the blankets are providing just the right amount of warmth, the mattress seems molded to fit your body. Oh, and if it's raining outside, nothing feels more absolutely perfect and comforting than that bed when the alarm goes off.

I have my clock radio alarm set on "buzzer" and now that I no longer work full time, I'm not used to hearing the alarm so it does succeed in waking me up. I had to set it for this morning so I could get to an appointment in time. Now that I am ready to go to bed for the night, I will have to remember to unset it so it doesn't wake me in the morning for no reason, whatsoever. I really hate when that happens.

Morning Glories!

Just Lin I am not a morning person either. I differ however in that I do have my own natural alarm clock and I usually wake up between 4 am and 6 am. No matter what I do this is the case.

The reason I say I am not a morning person is that for the first hour or so you can not talk to me. I wake up hard and need that time to get my bearings. If you talk to me I tend not to be very nice or even bitchy! LOL Some would say I can be rude. I say a little cranky. I need time to switch gears and get my brain wrapped around the day about to start.

I totally agree with the fact that it seems when you are sleeping your best sleep and get woken up that it is always when everything is just perfect and cozy in bed. I really hate that because it then turns into the hunt of finding that perfect spot and conditions to fall asleep again.

Great blog it makes me want to go back to bed.

Morning Tina!

Birdee from area 51. I wish our food bank had a computer but we do everything the old fashioned way. We operate on a shoe string and a computer is something we would love to have but it will be down the road. As far as the other paper work it has to be done by hand because they all want your signature on it when you send it in.

Mo and Kgirl I am glad I did not see the posts about drugs yesterday. It just sends my bp shooting to the sky. Kgirl it drives me crazy to see how much you have to pay for your medication!

Good..oh wait..lol..Morning All!

J/LIN: I used to be strictly a night owl..but I don't know what I am anymore. I like to be up at night..but then I don't want to go to sleep during the day. I'll sometimes stay up 24 hours and not even realize it has been that long. For years Mr Z worked nights and I got used to that..now he works days and I'm all discombobulated. The minute I get used to this schedule, he'll change again. Either way, odds are, I'll be awake most of the time anyway. ;)

As for the alarm, I have always been able to wake up a minute before it goes off. I never did understand how I did that.

Great blog today J/LIN...I bet TINA really wants to go back to bed now! :D

Congrats on FIRST LYNND..Woot Woot right back atcha!

Good Morning Hooters!

Congrats on 1st Lynn.

J/l- I am one of those people who hate to wake up, but I get up cheerfull. I prefer to have my cup of coffee, read my paper then converse with human beings if necessary. However, if I must face civilization I tend to be pleasant.

I actually slept until 10:00 a couple of Saturday's ago and Mr. Goldie came back up to check on me to see if I was still breathing. He is so used to me being the first up.

Hope everyone has a great day. JODI- take a nap!!!!

Lynn D said...

Now I have to worry about Zona not getting any sleep! Morning Zona.

Lynn D said...

goldie please tell me you are not someone who gets up whistling! That was my Dad and it would boggle my mind.

GOLDIE: I once fell asleep with my dinner in front of me..when I woke up Mr Z was just finishing his dinner. I asked him why he didn't wake me up..he said "You looked so peaceful.." I answered "Did you think to check and make sure I was still alive?" sheesh...My hair was in the frickin' soup for heaven's sake.. ;)

LYNND: Don't worry..I eventually hit a wall and fall asleep..see above.. :D

Happy Thursday!!

Good Morning - (and not in a REAL chipper voice)..

Just Lin - great blog - I have to set an alarm on the buzzer setting - I am not able to wake up to music - probably cuz i fall asleep to the sound of the tv!!

I would love to be able to sleep in - but for some reason, my body clock wakes up WAY too early these days...... bummer!!

anyway - great blog - wish I could go back to bed - but have to take my mom on errands today..

Hope everyone has an excellent day!!
:-)

MEK in AZ said...

Lynn d - congrats on FIRST... where is the train going?

(note to self - do NOT talk to Lynn before she has had her coffee and been up for an hour or two)..

Tina - I'll take a nap for you - don't work too hard.

Zona - the question of the day would be - Did Mr. Z take a picture of you sleeping at the table??!!

goldie - i would LOVE to be able to sleep until 10a.m. - how sweet that Mr. Goldie checked on you!!

Dianne - thanks for reminding me about George - that man gets better looking with each year!!

waving howdy to everyone..

MEK in AZ said...

The training with Tug - what a joke.

I'm just shaking my head - mr. wanna be dog whisperer - couldn't get our little one to come out of her shell - so, he just had employees try to walk her around the store - hell, I could walk a dog around a store and NOT have to pay for it....... OH - I could go on - but I won't bore you..

sadly for me - she shit five times on the way up there - so i kept having to pull over to the side of the road and clean it up so that she wasn't making a bigger mess!! I had every supply in the car possible just in case!!

Tina, sorry your ass has to wake up so early now.

Zona, Remember what I told you about needing sleep???

Goldie, I hate it when people get up with a smile. I was always an early riser, but no one talked to me for the first hour. My Hubby could never understand it.

Zona- LOL at the hair in the soup. I'm not sure it was sweet or he was just afraid to find a dead body that made him check.

MEK-give Tug to me and Pepper, we will have her out of her shell in no time!

sacBarb said...

J/L, I never liked to wake up to an alarm. When I worked, I always set it, but like Zona, I almost always woke up right before it went off. I even got up early when I first retired so I could get the mandatory stuff done and have time to play.

Now, since I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I have a hard time getting to sleep and I don't sleep longer than 1-2 hours at a time, so I find my self dragging my butt out of bed by 9am every day.

Just_Lin said...

Hey, is everybody awake in here? LOL

LynnD Congrats on #1. I used to have to write grants so I know what all that silly paperwork is like.

Zona You are not the Energize Bunny! Get some rest for heaven's sake.

Tina How does one wake up your ass? A little spanking, perhaps? LOL

Goldie I sure can't say that I wake up cheerful. I'm too much in a fog for that until about 2 cups of coffee later.

MEK Part of dog training is the training of the human. : )

SacBarb Is it going to be hot there today? The last couple of days here in Pacifica have been beautiful and it looks like we will get the same today.

OMG!!!! I WANT TO DIE!!!! I'm so sleepy! I have an alarm that i don't hear....my hubby can't understand how I can't hear it....it sounds like a siren! I also have my cell phone alarm set and I have that in my bathroom! You know...the ol' put it far enuf away so I have to get up to turn it off trick?!!! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! I don't think a ton of bricks could wake me up. Once, we had the police at our door at 6am telling us there may be a bomb and they were evacuating our street...my hubby grabbed me, sat me up in bed, got in my face and yelled to wake me up! the word bomb did the trick~ On Fridays, I make sure my alarms are off so I can sleep in.....i usually wake up around 2pm~ :D

I am thinking about a nap.

J/L, It was 96 here yesterday and my A/C went out. One of my Hubby's friends came over and looked at it today and he says I need a whole new H/A/C unit. CRAP!!!!! So now I need to call one of the companies that do that and hope they don't overcharge me too much. I always expect to get overcharged a little because I am a woman alone.

goldie said...

j/l LOL@ burying the poop. I say live dangerously and throw it in the trash!!

CAROL- you are going to love this one. A client was waiting to get into an appointment here and was chit chatting with me. She was in a bit of a tizzy because she had to hurry and go get her passport application done. She was going to pay a fortune to have it expidited too, due to the new changes. She is pissed off at her travel agent for not telling her that she needed it!!

I asked her where she was going and she said (I swear to all thing holy that I kept a straight face) Hawaii. I asked her why she needed a passport and she said that the new rule is to get back into the country you need one. I said, but Hawaii is a state. She says, yes it is but it is not in this country. OY...I left it alone.

Hey hooters,

A quick fly by from work.

I do have an alarm clock but don't really need it, as I have a real, live one named POE!

He starts beeping or making noise when the sun comes up, usually starts out softly then will go full tilt LOUD.

Sometimes he will be quiet and let us sleep in. I think it was the day after Thanksgiving, I woke up at 9:00am and was shocked. I never sleep that late and it felt so good!

Will be back later, hope everyone is having a good day!

Just this morning I woke up and fixed a cup of cawffee and sat down to the computer, or so I thought. I woke up to my alarm clock and realized it was just a dream. Very disappointing.

At times I have had spells of sleeping through my alarm. One day I realized, at least on one occasion, why. I woke up with a dream I was at Seal Rock listening to the seals. A similar sound to my alarm clock. I just incorporated it into my dream. How convenient.

Mo, It is 2:50 in the morning right now. Most of my team is still at work from 6:00 yesterday (Thursday) morning.

It's crunch time here. I think there will be no bed for many of us this night.

Dianne/Denver said...

Aww, it's your QOTD LYNN BUT it's about my sweet crotch!! I think that's the nicest thing I've ever had said to me...especially on the blog~~ )

JUST/LIN: Your blog today is a girl from my same heart. I am pretty sure we are twins-not-at-birth (especially since you are about six mos younger than me). I can hear an alarm and can get up to one if I have to but I can snooze until the alarm won't allow it to snooze anymore. When I used to work, I would set three alarm clocks around the room to go off at different times. Now while I was single again this worked like a charm...bring in a new husband...not so much! I also like to have my "main" clock about ten minutes ahead (I still call it bar time). Even if MRD is sleeping downstairs, my alarms wake him and I only do one now when I have too!! My friends laugh when I tell them I have to set my alarm for 11AM to meet them for lunch! I'm not kidding but remember...I am a night owl and proud of it!!@! I always wonder at people that "sleep in until 8 or 9AM" I call that the crack of dawn!!

goldie said...

My goodness Bonacci- you are a night owl t say the least!

Will be checking in tomorrow but then gone and unplugged again until Sunday sometime. Try to be good kids!

Jodi- did you get that nap?

K-girl, luv ya-hope all is well.

Tina~ can't wait to hear. My son has me laughing everytime he gets on a roll about his 'passengers'. He claims he doesn't like people in general, so he has no time for fools.

Carol- loved your synopsis of the day.
Mo- flapping a wing at you!!!!

Dianne/Denver said...

CAROL: Great notes. You say it in such a easy way.

BONACCI: I still can't keep up with your time zone. When will you be coming back to California? Are you having any fun while you are there besids eating the yummy food?

SCIRISH: Thinking of you...you too SHIRLEY.

MO: I so agree with you. My husband tells me to set the alarm for the exact time I need to get up so I can sleep more. I could never be a person that just jumps out of bed in the AM. I love sleeping in the best of retirement.

JUST/LIN: Yahoo...I am cooking tonight...micro-wave lasagna...last time I burned it so I got a different brand this time and I am "making" a salad.

MEK: I hope you are not going to be an ad for why a person should get a puppy! You have to do a lot of poop and throw up in your house..and why does it seem like it is always early in the AM...at least that's what my daughter complains about and her little dogs are not puppies.

Dianne/Denver said...

GOLDIE: Have a fun weekend. I remember last year you were really busy with campling, parties and weddings. Do you have more weddings planned for this summer? Hope you have nice comfortable weather.

bonachichi said...

Diane/Denver; Is it any wonder I'm often confused? I base everything on CA time. So whether I'm in Geneva or Vigo (Italy), it's 9 hours later (6 hours if you're on the East coast).

I'm having some fun; The weather's not great in Geneva (raining a lot), but there are distractions meant to relieve stress. When I'm "Home" in Vigo (I'm trying to go every weekend) it's been summer weather and I've been doing lots of outside stuff. Onc activity I'll never try again is biking in the Italian Alps. I could hardly walk for days.

Diane/Denver; You asked about yummy food? I'm afraid of pretty much everything food-wise. I don't eat beef or pork, only some types of seafood (it can't look disgusting alive) and only chicken/turkey prepared certain ways. I have no problem with fruits/vegetables.

So I was out with my "friends" a few years ago and they ordered an appetizer called calamari. Me being an idiot, I figured it looked like gourmet onion rings. Fine. I eat onions. They were a little salty, but I thought nothing of it.

After the meal someone told me calamari is squid and I almost went ass over teakettle. Now if I don't recognize/understand a dish, I don't eat it.

Just_Lin said...

Bonacci A lot of people love calamari. I've never tried it and I don't plan to.

Dianne Too bad we didn't know each other as youngsters. We would have had great sleepovers! I like the Stouffer's lasagna. You have to remember to turn the heat level down to 5 after you remove the plastic cover. : )

Dianne/Denver said...

BONACCI: I like calamari...you just dip it in the sauce and don't think about it. See how you liked it until you knew...?

JUST/LIN; Dinner turned out ok but I didn't have to turn the heat down on my directions. Actually, it was pretty darn good.

MEK: I just finished watching the George Strait special from last night and loved it. I would have liked to have been at that show with all those stars singing his songs. What an eveninng with Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and George Strait....sigh!

I am feeling bored and restless and I don't really know why since I have been pretty busy this week. I have tons of "things" to do but I want to do something fun. My husband isn't being too fun...just watching Discovery and reading the paper. Guess I will finish up the last of Bachelor so I will be all caught up. I like the two guys from Denver on there but I like the airplane guy (Jake) the best so far....what about you that watch???

Hi gang. I'm back from my grandson's graduation. It was held on the football field and we sat in the bleachers. There were 664 kids in his class...the biggest graduating class in Sac county and probably some of the neighboring counties too.

We were so far away that I never saw him until they called his name and then all I saw was a speck. It was 95 degrees and we were on the sunny side, melting. Thank goodness our name starts with "A" because we left after he walked off the stage.

All the kids were going directly to the all night grad party, so we wouldn't see him after anyway. It felt so good to get into the air conditioned car.

Now I am home in my hot house. I can't get a repairmen out here until Saturday at 5pm. I will probably be just a spot on the carpet by then. :(

Mo, as much as I love the hunky repairmen, I don't like the cost of their services, so NO I did not break the A/C on purpose, but thanks for asking. :)

Where'd everybody go?

Dianne/Denver said...

I'm still here

Just Lin - I'm watching the Tonight Show!!

(that's where I am!! LOL)
:-)

hope you have sweet dreams that don't involve alarm clocks!!

Just_Lin said...

Are you sleeping?

SacBarb I really feel for you having to sit in the sun on such a hot day. It's not healthy to do that. Is your repair guy going to fix your A/C or replace it. I hope it is resolved Saturday, one way or the other. Oh, I think the foot fetish guy is creepy, too. Even without the foot fetish, he's still creepy.

Dianne/Denver said...

I love escargot...It is too expensive to order out except for a special day. I guess BONACCI, you can bring me pails of it home..but how I like it is garlic butter very hot with bread, please!

SACBARB: You will get a laugh out of this. A couple of years ago we went to Alaska with a couple of friends and when I was comparing her photo album to ours...she had so many different pictures than we did....I guess they called that Sunrise!!

Another story BARB: I had just purchased our firt Camcorder in the old days (those big old things)) and my son was graduating. I hadn't had time to practice but hey, what was there to learn. I filmed the whole graduation and followed him every second on the camcorder. I watched the whole graduation thru that little lense. When we came home and all sat down to watch...my son wasn't even in the video..I followed some other kid for the day of his HS graduation!!

Nope, I don't like the foot guy either on Bachelor and I'm not crazy about the truck guy that got the first impression rose. and I really don't like Wes the cowboy singer!

sacBarb said...

Bonacci, I don't usually cause machines to break or burst into flames, but lately, IDK.

Dianne/Denver said...

BARB: Maybe you had better go stay with Sharon for a couple of days. I couldn't stand the heat either. In the last month we have had our sump pump go out, the micowave need replacing, our reclineer in the living room need replacing and today we received a notice from the IRS that there was a mistake in 2007 and that we owe $800...I guess it does pour when it rains! I think I would have rather had new counter tops.

JUSTLIN: I think the Bachelor thinks he is creepy too..sorta.

I wish we late nighters tonight could all meet for some pie and beverage and yak..I really do need to go to bed early as I have an 8:30am YES AM Dr appt tomorrow and then I am going to just get some things done and meet a couple of gals around noon for lunch.

sacBarb said...

Dianne, you crack me up @ the sunrise and following some other graduate instead of your son.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne I try not to make any appointments sooner than late morning. Even that's a stretch for me. LOL

OMG, J/L, that was a great blog! I couldn't agree more... why is it that if your alarm wakes you out of a deep sleep, that sleep was always perfect???

Goldie: I'm still trying to nail down my pet peeve along the lines of your blog yesterday.... my "greatest peeve" is in my head somewhere, but I just can't seem to dredge it up!

whabbear said...

Dianne: What a horrible stretch of bad luck! Hugs!

whabbear said...

MEK: Sorry you had a shitty day, too!

how sad is this.....the only thing i can remember to comment on is the food~ I love escargot and caviar~ oh my yummy~

Catching up... Barb: Beware! Our A/C in the Palm Springs condo failed a couple of years ago while tenants were staying there, so we had to deal with it immediately. We went with an installer recommended by our condo reantal company, and he turned out to be unlicensed and almost refused to provide us with any receipts or other paper work (like the owners manual for the new A/C unit he installed).

We were freaked, and to this day think we got ripped off. Not a nice feeling.

Moral of the story: If you have to replace, make sure your installer has that California license!

Dianne/Denver said...

TINA: I love all that same food too. Why the hell were we eating and In and Out when I met you??? I freak my grandkids out that I would eat those things..I love clams, raw oysters and mussels too, do you?

J/L: I USUALLY don't make appts that early either but my doctor is in the hospital and when I called yesterday that was the only thing open on Friday. I don't even know if I should go. I am going for a sore throat but it comes and goes. I will probably go just because it is too late to cancel and might as well have the MA look at it.

Well hello BEAR!! What a nice surprise to see you and to get a hug good night too. I think I would rather go without heat for a few days that A/C.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne If your sore throat comes and goes, I'm guessing it's allergy related. Either that, or you irritated it breathing in campfire smoke. Or maybe you're snoring. ;)

Just_Lin said...

Hi Bear!

whabbear said...

Hi, Dianne and J/L! I know, I've not been in the nest much lately. Working on a series of nest blogs, though, if Carol will agree to run them!

Just_Lin said...

Oh, Boy! Bear, I was just going to ask you for more of your interesting blogs. Cool!

Well Howdie-Doo Whab! I was just thinking it'd been a while. Enjoying some vacay time?

My food aversions are completely without reason. I know that. I went through one stage where I wondered if it hurt fruit and vegetables to be picked or eaten. I mean, how would we know?

MEK in AZ said...

Whabby - yesterday was the shitty day!! LOL - today was pretty good!!
OH -and IBB's SIL is on her hubby's side - so i don't have to deal with her - and, trust me, I am SOOOOOOOOOOO happy about that!!

Tina - you are making me hungry!!

Just Lin - great march to 100!!

Dianne - i also wish we were all closer so we could meet for an adult beverage, good food and fun!!

Okay - I can't believe that Jimmy fallon thinks anything they do on his show is funny - good grief!!

I'm off to bed.........

I hope everyone has an excellent Friday!!
:--)

BEAR: Are they acout Science or about port/smut? I never can keep up with you.

J/L: I think snoring but I just want to check since my husband had strep last week and so did my grandson.

Well, guess I have to turn in and hang out in bed for awhile before I go to sleep. None of you took me up on meeting for some yummy pie.

The sane people are starting to show up for work. I've been running sims for about the last 24 hours on enormous magnets. Playtime's over for a bit, I'm afraid!

Just_Lin said...

MEK Sweet dreams!

Dianne/Denver said...

Whoops...spoke too soon. MEK, I would come and meet you anytime...it just seems like such a long drive tonight.

Some nights Jimmy Fallon is funny and other nights he reminds me of the Conan show. I am going to be in Leno rehab with him not being on all summer. It's bad enough Oprah, Ellen, etc., go off but night time too. I do kind of like Jimmy Kimmel but it's not Leno. Guess I had better keep recording other shows for the summer nights. I should pick up one of the many books I have hanging around and keep buying too.

Ok...night to all of you...

Dianne/Denver said...

BTW, where is the necklace right now? I forget who has it now.

Just_Lin said...

Dianne LynnD is the most recent one to have the necklace.

Sweet dreams, everyone.
