~ The Hand of God........or Not ~

The Hand of God.......
by Tina_in_ut~

DeeDee sent me a link with this picture and said that some are calling it the Hand of God. I immediately wrote back, "Duh!" Since I believe that God is the creator of all things, He had to have made this. In the picture, you can see something looking like a hand reaching out to a ball of fire. To me, the picture represents creation. It looks like God is reaching out and creating the universe. I realize that oftentimes religion and science do not mix, but I have always looked at science as the proof that God does in fact exist. The complexity of the human body should be enough proof, but when you add in the universe and all that it entails, I don't understand how anyone could question His existence. I realize that you can see whatever you want in almost anything, but in this case, I see the Hand of God.

.......or Not by Whabbear

The makeup of the Universe, and the ability of its constituent energies and elements to create the most complex of structures, is nothing short of incredible. The structure in this image, snapped recently by NASA's Chandra X=ray telescope, is a fine case in point. The progenitor was a massive star that exploded in a gigantic supernova about 1700 years ago, leaving behind an ultra-dense "pulsar" that rotates 7 times a second (the first pulsar was discovered back in 1967). In the process, prodigious numbers of electrons and other charged particles are being flung off the surface of the pulsar and traveling outward in finger-shaped columns that trace out enormous corkscrew-shaped lines of magnetic force. Nearby is a huge gas cloud. When the charged material traveling along the fingers smashes into the gas in the cloud, it causes the gas to glow (the red areas in the photograph).

You'll notice what's missing from this description: a concrete role for God. Owls, for this or any other structure in the Universe, we have no obvious need of that hypothesis.

Interesting blog and views Tina and Whabbear. The picture does look like a hand, but since I don't believe in God, I don't think it's god's hand. It just looks like a hand. I have looked at cloud shapes in the sky and seen certain things too. It's just a shape to me.

Morning Glories!

Congrats on first Shirley!

Tina a Whabbear love the dual perspectives on the blog! Great job to you both.

Pretty name for an extrodinary sight. I don't know who or what has created all things in the universe all I can say it is a much higher power or force than I can wrap my mind around at times. The grand creator does some amazing things.

I to believe that God or a higher power has created all things and we are here to try to understand and shape were it will take us as human beings. We can use the creation for good or evil intent, it is up to us. Yes science and the spiritual I feel go hand in hand also. Science helps us to try new ideas and theories to create useful technology and understanding of things in our universe. Spirituality helps us to believe that there is a thing greater than us and gives us the faith to push forward when we truly believe that there is an answer, it helps us define the hope we need to complete any project even the scientific.

Good Morning to everyone who enters the NEST today.

I do believe God exists. I have felt it since I was a small child. Back then I was pretty smart and my mind was not cluttered. Just as a parent is here for us through thick and thin, but can't always keep us from the bad stuff, it is the same with God. I think our purpose here is to grow and learn. At times, unfortunately, I think we are only in the toddler stage. :) There is room for both science and God.

I am going back to bed.

TINA & BEAR: Ah, the Eternal Question. I too believe it is the hand of God in this picture. There are miraculous things that happen everyday that doctors are at a loss to explain using just science. My uncle was a scientist, he invented things that we all use everyday..but he went through a period of time not believing in God. In the end he changed his mind and became a Catholic..he said there were just too many things that he couldn't figure out without giving the credit to God. I just have faith that the things I don't understand now, someday I will.

Thanks for a great blog today TINA & BEAR.

Good morning Shirley,LynnD,JustLin,Bonacci,Lani & Jodi.

Such a heavy subject for an early Monday morning.
I believe in God, I believe in science.
I cannot always see what others see in objects like, the Virgin Mary on a potato chip, or angels on a tree trunk. Science is known to to "exact", yet there seems to be disclaimers to past ideals/theory. I find it easier to believe in God than "man" lol!
Don't slam me Whabbear, I am but a mere mortal :)

Shirley, I for got to give you an "attah girl" for being 1st,2nd,& 3rd.

HALEY UPDATE-

Great news. Haley pooped! I know, wtf is going thru your mind. But that means things are good. She got to go home Saturday on the condition that she poop. Remember they said 3 more weeks in the hospital?? Well she showed them.
So far, so good, so please keep the prayers going that there are no complications and she finally gets to eat, drink and lead a normal 4 year old life.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers, financial contributions do desperately needed to offset the medical bills and for the encouraging words. YOU are the best!

I just thought that picture was beautiful......its whatever you see......I think if we are going with the God thing this would be more along the lines of something Zeus might do....he was so much flashier than Mary and Joe's boy.
But lets face it.....allegedly the face of Jesus has shown up on burnt tortillas...smoke...clouds...and on a potato chip. Statues of Mary have wept inconsolably for years and people have traveled far and wide to witness these things.
This is the United States and we enjoy freedom to chose a religion or not chose one.....I respect everyones right to do as they please.....like my old pal Wanda....who at one time...would bite the head off a live chicken...hold a poisonous snake between her teeth while simultaneously doing the dance of the holy ghost until she passed out....in the spirit!...ya think? I don't know...but she did it every Sunday....and that was her right...

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Happy Monday hooters,

Lovely picture, I tend to lean in between. I believe in God, but also think Bear's explanation makes total sense.

So to me it could be either.

We are going to see the little orphaned kitten in a little over an hour, after MR. EBJ gets home from work.

Our neighbors who live kind of behind and off to the side of us moved out suddenly on Friday. They are the noisy ones who had loud parties, loud cars, loud Harleys and loud dirt bikes.

No one knows where they went or why, they just up and moved. And they left all their outside lights on.

Goldie, glad to hear that Haley is doing well! That is wonderful!

I will report back a little later, after I see the baby! :)

Hello Everyone!!

Cool picture DeeDee!

Interesting blog Tina and Whab!

I believe in both God and Science. As a kid I was always taught "God helps those who help themselves." Or something like that... So in my mind, God created sort of a base model human and gave us the intelligence to add the "extras". Hence, we have Science.(which would also sort of explains evolution...to me anyway)

Goldie...Yay for poop!!!!

Renee Eve...How is Mom??? I still have everything crossed!

I'm sure there was more I wanted to say, but damn if I can remember any of it.

Tina; The Uh oh was because of religion. My daughter is a fanatic and we argue often. She claimed God (or one of the bible dudes) told her to turn somewhere while driving. She did and avoided having to drive past an accident. When she had her recent wreck I couldn't help myself. I asked her if God had been busy texting this time.

I hope that wasn't blasphemous. No insult intended to the divine guy. Gal. Person. Being. What do I know?

******Downer Alert****

My best friend of about 25 years found out today that her Mom has terminal cancer. They are releasing her from the hospital and she is coming to stay with Donna and her family. Hospice is being set up, along with a Home Health Aid for an hour a day. Patsy has cancer in her liver, stomach and lungs. She is very weak but the Doctor is not giving a time period. Donna is very close to her Mom, so this is especially devastating to her. She is worried about caring for her Mom and also worried about the effect on her younger children who are 9 and 10. Patsy is a wonderful, caring, outgoing, fun person who would give you the shirt off her back. She sends money to a third world child every month even though she had to retire early due to carpal tunnel and doesn't have much extra. She welcomed me into the family as if I were a second daughter. We spent many a summer evening sitting around playing cards or games and laughing our heads off. We spend many Thanksgivings together eating and playing games. I'll never forget one Thanksgiving when we were playing a game (Outburst maybe?) and Donna (who went to Christian school) got a question on how many apostles there were. She answered 13.....I swear we all nearly peed! We named the 13th apostle George and had fun with that for years.

Sorry this is so long, I just hope and pray that Patsy will go without a lot of suffering and that Donna will be okay.

Just_Lin said...

scirish (((HUGS))) I'm so sorry about your friend's mother. I, too, hope she has a peaceful passing and that your friend will get through it okay.

Congrats on 1 SHIRLEY. It's nice to see all of you on the blog and hello to everyone.

TINA AND BEAR: What a good blog. I was reading TINA'S and didn't see BEAR'S at first and then saw his name and knew what the other side would be to read. It is very interesting.

I am one of the people that completely believe in God. I don't think God is a woman because I don't think a woman would have made men to be so forgetful, selective hearing, etc. :) I was raised as a Catholic and continue to call myself a Catholic and was taught about miracles that happen to people and things they see. I do see a hand here and I guess I would like to "think" that it is a sign from God to us. It makes me feel better inside. I don't deny the Science part of life at all but I just can not believe that God didn't create our universe. I do get mad at Him once in awhile though when he doesn't do things my way!! :)

I enjoy reading everyone's opinions and thoughts. I also think God "helps those that help themselves". Now let me climb off this stage and get down to business.

GOLDIE: I am so glad to hear that Haley has gone home and pooped too. I know what a relief that must be for all of you.

SCIRISH: I am really sorry about your friend's mother. I work with Hospice and they will help and visit much more that a home health care person of once a week. Your friend will get help from both agencies and I can tell you that Hospice will be so helpful with her. Please be sure she knows she can call on them for anything.

MEK: Thanks for the Medium alert. Are you feeling better yet?

JODI: How was the concert? I haven't heard a song from you for awhile...time for a tune girl!

Lani said...

I hope I will remember everything I wanted to say.

EBJ - I HOPE THE KITTY WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU.

SCIRISH - I am so sorry about your friends mom.

JODI - Enjoy Jake's concert.

I think there is room for God & science. I also think that sometimes not so good things happen because we aren't listening, or we aren't getting the answer we want.

I washed my grey away again today and then went and tried on some tops for a little road trip we are taking next week. I got some darn good sales but I HATE to try on clothes and especially HATE too look at myself in the full length mirror...ugh!

Well, I guess I had better go get something ready for dinner. My husbnad only has to work away from home this week for 2-1/2 days and then summer vacation. Yippee....?

Ok..see ya' all later.

TINA: Sounds like you have had a very busy weekend. I miss ready your posts.
