Pleasantly Surprised!

by Mary/MI

I bought my tickets to see Tom Jones online a few months ago, not knowing what to expect. I have been disappointed by seeing other "old timers" and was a little apprehensive. The worst show was Wayne Newton. His voice had gotten so bad that his background music was cranked way up high so it wouldn't be noticeable. It didn't work! He spent the first 40 minutes walking around kissing and hugging audience members.

I have seen pictures of Kenny Rogers "new face" I have no idea if he can still sing. I will still always love his music.

I went to Tom Jones show expecting the worst. One of the gaming table dealers hadn't seen his show, but made a lot of negative remarks about him. I was pleasantly surprised. He has let his hair go gray, which looks good with his face lift. He looks younger, but not unrecognizable. He has lost weight and looks great for an almost 69er! He was born in June of 1940. I must say he had some pretty sexy moves! I know for a fact that he moves a lot better than I do! He sang a lot of new stuff from his new album and of course his oldies too. My favorite was "I'm never going to fall in love again". His voice was spot on. I know a song is well sung when it moves me to tears.

I was 4 rows up and center stage. Mr Mary didn't want to go. I used to think I couldn't go to shows without him, then realized I would be missing so much. I was seated with a couple, and a friend of theirs. They were from N.Dakota.They were a lot of fun. I could tell they were big fans of his. I was surprised there were so many young people there. He has broad fan base.

To all the people that think that star "comebacks", face lifts, tucks etc. are odd & unnecessary, I say enjoy them while they are still with us. They were legends in their times. It must be a strange and sad feeling to be "losing it" in front of millions.

At least my loved ones will always take me as I am, a short un-de-boobed-wrinkled, sagging bucket of love lol!!

Morning Glories!

Mary it is so great to see Tom still has it! I actually saw him on the round of talk shows last year and he could still sing! I did not know he had work done...if he did then this surgeon knows how to keep them looking natural not like they were pulled tight and prepped for the coffin.

Good Morning Mary/MI, LynnD, Carol, Tina and MEK. Good later morning to everyone flying in afterwards.

Mary, I liked your blog for two reasons; First, you had the confidence to go out alone! You go, girl! Second, these legends know how to do only one thing; entertain. It's great so see so many enjoy their talents.

I say Tony Bennett in 1983; I was (for real) a teenager and had no idea who he was. I thought the people rushing up to the stage and swooning were loons. Now I know better. I wouldn't swoon, but I sure would appreciate seeing him more than I did then.

bonachichi said...

Oops. I didn't say Tony Bennet. I saw him.

Another thought I had -- it relates to the pigeon attack I experienced recently. Maybe umbrellas weren't invented for rain? Maybe they were invented as a defense mechanism against birds?

Good Morning Hooters!

Congrats on 1st lynn! Wohooo indeed.

Mary- my fav oldie performances where Tommy James and the Eagles. Both were just the same as they were in their day (voices, not looks). Kudos to you for going out to the shows by yourself!

I am sad that our 500th will be Friday. Leaving town and unplugged on Friday at noon and not home until Monday sometime...... Have fun without me and party like there is no tomorrow!!!!

Have a great day everyone.

Happy Tuesday Owls.

I am up and at 'em early because I am meeting Sharon for Breaky and then we are going to another financial planning seminar. You'd think, with all these seminars we go to, that I'd be an expert at saving and planning out my money. Not so much. Maybe I'll learn the secret today.

Another blog from Mary! I love Tom Jones and I still have his records. I don't have anything to play them on, however. Don't know why I'm keeping all the old records. It is so great that you went to see him by yourself. I'm not sure I would have done that. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

I will have to read comments when I get home. I hope you all have a great day. BBL

Good Morning!

MARY: I have always loved Tom Jones. I remember watching his variety show with my mom and aunt. My aunt saw him in concert in the early 70's. I still have the program. He was yummy then..and he's yummy now. I'm glad you got to see him. I would have jumped at the chance too. Thanks for the great blog today..and the terrific pic! :D

LYNND: Congrats on FIRST! My mom used to say that some of these stars were pulled so tight they must have a knob of old skin on the back of their heads!! ;)

MEK: Good luck getting the game. Try to stay cool.

SACBARB: We have a lot of records too..Mr Z is waiting for them to make a comeback. HA!

Good Morning Carol, Tina, Mek, Goldie. Bonacci, Sacbarb and Zona-My-Baby.

Thank you all for the Victoria Day wishes. It was a great weekend and now as usual I feel tired. Ah for the good old days when one could party and not feel exhausted.

Tinkatia said...

Mary - I loved your blog. My sister and I saw Tom Jones around 1995. I thought he was great. At that time he didn't look any different from when he had all his hits. We also saw Kris Kristofferson and Engelbert Humperdinck. We loved hearing all the old songs.

Tinkatia said...

I have lots to do this week so I had better get started. Have a great day everyone and thanks again.

I'm skipping dinner to blog. It boggles my mind how Americans are the fattest people on earth, but the europeans spend hours eating dinner.

I think a lot of these legends were before my time (or at least before I had any awareness of them), but as an adult, I really enjoy them. My all time favorite, Louis Armstrong. He had a raspiness that went down like silk. I could listen to What A Wonderful World all day long.

Happy Tuesday, to all Owls!

Mary....what an awesome blog! So glad you went to the show and you loved it! I forgot to warn you about the Criss Angel-Cirque de Soleil show. Don't go.....it's really bad! If you got tickets....ummmm....well, I loved the clowns!

Back to work I go, hi Ho!

Just_Lin said...

LynnD Congrats on #1 today! Did you put up the reflective tape?

Mary That is so great that you went to the concert by yourself and enjoyed yourself! Good for you! I understand there are women who still throw their underwear on stage for Tom. Did you do that, Mary? LOL

bonachichi said...

I brought one pair of sneakers with me. They're white, but they're not quite the same style. I mean the left shoe is different from the right one. I figured "so what?" and have been wearing them anyway.

I finally got sick of the teasing and strange looks, so I just bought a new pair of shoes. I'm thinking maybe that's a mistake. Maybe it goes against the grain of who I am. Would you all cave in to peer pressure or be proud of your individuality, flaws and all?

Or am I just being entirely too anal, shut up and wear matching shoes like normal people?

sacBarb said...

Bonacci, For me it would depend on HOW different the shoes are, but generally I would embrace my individuality and call it a new fashion trend. Or say you purposely did it as a conversation starter. ☺

kahonugrl said...

Hey bonacci I say walk proud!!!

Mary_not_in_MI: I woulda gone to the show with you.

LynnD gratz on first.

Wishes still going out to Shirley and Squishy.

Is it wrong to eat my lunch at 9:05 in the morning?

Zona: Ummm.... a box? Mahalo Nui for the surprise.

kahonugrl said...

Hiya SacBarb: when you coming for a visit? You still need to get on the bike for a ride you know.

sacBarb said...

Well, the seminar was OK and I learned that we don't need life insurance if we have adult children, unless it's to pay for burial. Our kids should be able to take care of themselves and we should use our hard earned money to take care of US! Well, that's one person's opinion.

sacBarb said...

Turtle, Sharon and I were talking about that very thing this morning, but we came to no conclusion. She is going to South America in June, but October/November was mentioned for HI. BTW, you're coming to CA in Sept. right?

sacBarb said...

Zona, Do you at least have a record player? LOL @ Mr. Z.

kahonugrl said...

Ummm if I can afford it.

20% pay cut doesn't equate to a vacation but I will try.

kahonugrl said...

Well in a fantasical kinda way, sorta but not really...lol

How the hell are ya Bonacci, and where in the world are you now?

bonachichi said...

I've decided to keep the new ugly euro-shoes. I keep looking at them and think of bowling.

The sneakers I brought aren't horrible. They're K-Swiss and they're white (a sin here). They're just not exactly the same style. I didn't notice and nobody in L.A. seemed to notice either.

Kgrl, I love your attitude!! Walk proud! LMAO! I'm going to try the bowling shoes in the morning and see if anyone notices. Then I'll be showing it's my choice to wear mismatched shoes.

bonachichi said...

Kgrl; At this very moment I'm in a dormitory in Geneva, Switzerland. I'm working on an underground machine that goes into France. I'm trying to spend my weekends at my place in Italy. It sounds a lot more exciting than it is. Aside from the Great Shoe Debacle, I've been mostly sitting in front of computers.

bonachichi said...

Oh wait. Being stoned on the airplane must have been great fun as well. Too bad I don't remember any of it.

kahonugrl said...

Did we visit Amsterdam on this wild adventure Bonacci?

bonachichi said...

Nope, Kgrl. No Amsterdam. Haven't been there for years. I've seen some of their "tobacco" shops, but never been in one.

bonachichi said...

Oh. Ha ha. I get it. Stoned on the airplane. No, I was LEGALLY stoned. People take pills on long flights to relax them. I've never taken them, so when I followed directions and took TWO pills, I was OTL. Holding a fork, I'm told.

kahonugrl said...

As long as you we're holding the fork and not being forked.

MARY - I'm glad you enjoyed the concert. I would've gone with you. Another secret guilty pleasure of mine would be to see Neil Diamond in concert!!

LYNN D - Congrats on first!!

Waving a wing @ EVERYONE!! It's been one hell of a day. I normally clock in @ 4am, but this morning I TOTALLY didn't hear my alarm and my hubby woke me up @ 4:55 asking "honey don't you work today?" FUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK!!!!! Evidentally my boss was calling my cell and I didn't hear that either. Thankfully she was a good sport about it and we made it thru today.

I hope everyone has sunshine where they are. We are having a beautiful sunny 81 degree day here in WESconsin!!!

TURTLE - Great marching!!

BONACCI - I find it fascinating that you are working in the same facility that is highlighted in Angels and Demons. COOL!!!

Jodi: Sorry to hear you day started out a little rough. I hate days like that. Glad it smoothed out.

Bebbilane said...

bonacci: I have had two different shoes on before. They teasing is endless. Mine was due to the fact that the house was dark when I put my shoes on and they are similar styles. Every embarassing at work. I try to only have one pair at a time that I wear to keep that lil problem in check.

Making a quick fly by. Thanks everyone for your comments.
I have gone to many shows, movies plays, concerts by my self. A few years ago I wanted to see Oscar De La Hoya fight at Cashman Stadium outside of Vegas. I didn't even tell Mr Mary. I bought the tickets, jumped on a bus that took me to the stadium. I just had to experience the whole "prize fight" thing. I made it back in a few hours. My Mary never even missed me! I showed him my ticket and he looked at me like I had two heads lol!! He doesn't worry about me, but he dos wait close by until I get out of a show.
We are now staying at Treasure Island. We stayed 3 nights at the Venetian and 2 nights at Mandalay Bay. We leave here Thurs. morning, then I get to see TINAHO!!!

Have a great evening all!

I think I just wrote a novel/comment/blog lol!!

I am heading out to do one of my fave. things SHOP!

bonachichi said...

Insomnia strikes again... I got a few hrs sleep. I read some comments... Jodi, did you see Angels & Demons? It was originally a book written by Dan Brown. A recluse who I find fascinating. He researches his subjects and I admire him for that.

As far as parallels with the movie, CERN hates the term "God Particle". And as far as I know, nobody has created anti-matter. There are however, other research projects going on that are none of my business and nobody tells me anything I don't need to know.

I saw a rough cut of the movie in March and really liked it. More for the biblical history vs science aspect. The Pope didn't like it at all. It's great entertainment, based partially on fact (the art and geography described are real) and something of a learning experience.

There is a Large Hadron Collider, which I referenced many months ago, but it broke last September. It'll be ready to go online "officially" in July by current estimates. The purpose as I understand it is to find elusive particles that contribute to the mass of objects. Kind of like an accumulation of mud on your shoes when walking through a swamp.

My avatar is a portion of the Collider if anyone is interested.

As far as Angels & Demons, the movie, if I hadn't seen it already, I'd pay to go see it now. Just to see Tom Hanks. I like that guy.

I'm going to try to get back to sleep. I have a few hours before it's considered sane to be awake.

LANI!!! Update on my mom....She FINALLY called me on Sunday, (7 day's later) so I guess that mean's she Does Care!! LOL!!!! ;o)
She had been in Vegas, for my niece's wedding.(I couldn't remember the date for the wedding) BUT...if she Really, Really cared, she would have told me she Was Going!!! Right??
I guess my sister, who live's with her, doesn't give a crap, because she couldn't be bothered to call me back and let me know! She was home all day and knew I left the message!! WTH!!!!! Oh well....At least my mother know's I tried to see her on Mother's Day! So, I'm still a good daughter! ha!

Lynn D, Congrat's on 1st!!

Shirley, you got 1st yesterday, right? Congrat's. How many time's in a row have you gotten it?? LOL

Ok, gotta get back to Boz...he seemed to have a rough day today. These steroid's are making him eat and drink more, which mean's...you know what!!! After tomorrow we can cut back for a week and then back to 2 halves a day. He tried to snatch food right out of Mr. B's hand the other day! Never, ever did that before!

Sorry for the long post....trying to make up for lost time on here.

Wishing you all a good evening♥♥♥♥
