Things that make you wonder

by Goldie

Remember the building that burned down next to us last August? Very sad – it housed the 4-C community coordinated childcare office as well as Lutheran Social Services. I have already commented on the blog that the construction guys are not up the same caliber of physique as my fireman.

The good news is that they are re-building. The walls are up they are really cooking on this place. Been working it now for a couple of months. So yesterday, as I am leaving work I see at the end of cul-du-sac our building is on, a HUGE banner proclaiming that tomorrow- May 21st, 2009 is the ground-breaking event for the new building from 11 to 2 p.m. HELLO? Hasn’t that ship already sailed? A groundbreaking for a ½ constructed building? Hmmm, makes you shake your head on who came up with that idea.

Another head-scratcher. My oldest son, 29 years old (I was just a baby when I had him) calls this morning and says he needs me to fax him a copy of his High School diploma. Why? Well it seems that the Paramedical Program he is enrolling in requires it. I say to him “ son, you are already enrolled in college (required high school info too) and just got your semester grades (which were fantastic) and you are an accredited, certified EMT and RTA. Why don’t they just use the transcript from the college you are enrolled in?? He asked the same question. Nope- don’t care if you are in college, graduated college or have any degrees or are the Surgeon General- they want to make sure you graduated High School. WTF? So I have now sent an 11-year-old High School Diploma copy to him and he has to acquire his High School transcripts once again. Makes sense to me, NOT.

One more thing- ever notice when you walk in to a store they have reusable bags for sale? Usually close to the entrances where you walk in at many Mall stores. However, when you get to the checkout with the stuff you really didn’t intend to purchase, but did anyway, they don’t sell the bags at the counter?? Again, whose brainchild is this? If I know I am buying stuff I take my bags in. If I end up buying stuff and didn’t plan ahead, I would like the bag at the counter to purchase. HELLO MACYS and PENNY’S are you listening??????

So what makes you shake your head- especially knowing that someone is paid to think these things through and this is the best they can do??

Here is a good one for ya.

Part of the paper work I have been doing for the food bank the last month was state related for allotments in the next biennium.

I filled out all of (what seemed like) 500 pages and I came to a blank form that read Client Confidentiality Release form. There were no instructions what so ever. I was stumped. Did they want me to fill it out? Did they want me to create my own eith our letter head to be included in the paper work?

Finally I met with my contact from our County food bank and he looked at me and said "No" to my questions. What I needed to do was make a copy of the form and include it in my paper work packet back to the state. Well my brain would not accept this. I just kept staring at him. I finally looked at him and said really? Why????

His response was "Really" and I don't know why, just to make sure you have a copy."

"I said of course I have a copy it is in the freaking paper work for our files!"

I felt like we were channeling Abbott and Costello!

Finally in exasperation I told him "This crap makes you just want to poke your eye out!"

Then the evil genius of this hit me! We are all providing the state with free copies of this paper work so they don't have to spend the money! That has to be it! (Note Sarcasm)They will be included in our next paper work packet in two years and we will go through this process again. (sigh)

Good Morning Everyone!

GOLDIE: I'll have to think about this for awhile..I know I wonder about this kind of stuff all the time. I just don't have an example right now..more caffeine needed!

About the reusable bags tho'..they are everywhere in our stores. On the end of every aisle, hanging on hooks in the aisles..and on 'bag stands' next the the registers. They even hang then from the lights that tell you the lane is open! No problem finding them here!

MARY: I see you warmed up your fingers enough to get FIRST! Congrats! Have a nice, safe trip home. :D

LYNND: One number only....right? ;)

VIG: Think..think..thunk..sounds like a plan. Have a nice flight.

TINKA: It's the big day!! Have so much fun that your smile is constant, your laugh comes easy and your feet only just touch the ground! I'll miss you, but I'll be thinking about all good times you are having. Love you. Safe travels always! :)

Good morning!

Congrats on 1st Mary! Have a safe trip home!

Excellent blog Goldie!

The only thing that comes to mind (just starting to drink my cawfee) is that a couple weeks ago, MR. EBJ had to take a class to requalify to carry a gun.

He has taken this class numerous times, but he called in a panic and said they needed a copy of his birth certificate.

I said why, you have taken the class before and they have a copy of your cert. on file.

He said yes they do but the want a new copy.

A new copy?

As it turned out, he got really aggravated and told them to use the copy they already have. Finally they agreed and retrieved the "old" copy and put it in the new file.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Another one that always blew my mind was the whole college info stuff. As parents we are REQUIRED to give all our info up until they reach 25 for student loans. All this info is readily available to our children to view on their applications.

However, try to get their damn grades or any info when they are in school (that you are paying for!) and its all confidential. Hey Lady- who the hell do you think pays for that kid to be in your school so you have a salary????????? Used to drive me nuts.

Dianne/Denver said...

Morning....Just dropping by for a fly-over to say hello to everyone. MARY: what happened to that Blackberry you can log on to...?

TINA: Are you rubbing your little tired eyes today? Maybe it is good that you are having those calls to keep on top of your game. :)

GOLDIE: I will have to think about this...I just get mad at myself that I buy so many grocery bags and forget to bring them into the store..even with them in plain view in my car!!

Ok...going to meet an old co-worker for lunch. There was supposed to be three of us but the fun one can't go..sooooo, this lunch won't be quite as laughing and fun as usual.

Lani said...

Off the top of my head I am not thinking of any WHAT?! events, however SLIN would probably say I am always complaining about something that I feel is ridiculous or unjust. I will think.....Right there some would say...Is she kidding herself?!

Lani said...

Hi DIANNE - You just gave me a What?! reminder. Unfortunately, I am the idiot. A few months ago I bought a green bag at my market. Do I use it?...Well I would if I ever brought it with me. I unloaded my groceries and put the bag on a shelf and never remember to put it in the car to bring with me.

sacBarb said...

Happy Wednesday Owls.

I'm checking in quickly before I meet Sharon at the movies.

Goldie, I know I have soooo many of those moments, but I can't think of one right now. Maybe because it's become so commonplace that they don't make that big an impression anymore. That's really sad! You have given some really good examples.

I do remember calling the school for attendance information on my oldest son when he was in his senior year in high school. He had a tenancy to get sidetracked on the way to school. He turned 18 in December of his senior year and I was told I couldn't get any information on students over 18. Yet I was still responsible if he wasn't there. Really??????

sacBarb said...

Mary, congrats on #1 and using restraint with Mr. Mary.

MEK, good luck with Tug today. I bet she will do really well.

Tina, sorry about the assholes and their relatives.

Dianne, I'm always forgetting my bags, too, but soon the grossre stores are going to charge for using paper or plastic. I hope that makes me remember. Out esteemed governor is also trying to pass legislation that will eliminate plastic bags altogether.

LynnD, LOL @ Government Officials that moved into the private sector. You're probably right

Waving Howdy also to VIG, Zona, EBJ, Lani, Carol, and all the others who land. I will be back late tonight, after the movies and Photo Elements class. Have a great day everyone.

goldie said...

Sacbarb- they are tying to make it illegal to throw clean plastic bags away here. You can be fined.

Dirty ones are ok, however not with dog poop. Can't throw dog poop away. It must be buried in your yard or flushed down your toilet. Really? Are you shitting me(pun intended)? Like I am going to pick it up, bring it INTO the house and flush it down the toilet??

The alternative is to bury it in the backyard. Gee, just what Mr. Goldie wants - a poop graveyard for his manicured lawn (that we pay a service to do for us)!

This leads me to believe that I will be breaking the law one of 2 ways. Bags in the garbage full of poop of clean bags in the garbage (if I forget my recycled bags and don't ask for paper)!

Please have bail money ready Shirley.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Hey Goldie how come I have to post bail? My dollar is only worth .89 cents of your dollar. Can't Birdee do it? I bet her nest if full of money! Lol!

Happy Hump Day, HOoters!

Congrats on #1, Mary!

Goldie Great blog today. Lani and I were discussing the fact that we complain about the idiocy of things all the time but can we think of an example now? NO! I'm going to blame it on age. LOL

I really don't understand that law about dog poop! It's ridiculous! Does the same apply to cat poop?

Lynn D said...

Hey kids just stick a fork in me I am done! This has been one crazzzzy day! We had a delivery of bread from some wonderful souls. The problem? 400 pounds of just bread. By God and all that is holy I made it fit into the walk in freezer!!!! The other volunteers were bowing down to me. That was after I sorted several boxes of rotting cantalopes ( however the hell you spell that). I have been covered in oozing canta crap all day!

goldie I say sneak out in the middle of the night and toss bags and poop in the neighbors garbage! :)

Actually I saw something in a catalog awhile back that was like a doggie septic system. It fit into the ground and had a lid and if I remember right it had holes so that as the poo broke down it would just seep underground. Might be an option! I bet you could find something through google. If not just start putting it all in paper bags and have a doorstep poop party!

Thank god I live in the country! My dogs poop were ever the hell they want!

Ok...you all will not believe how this lunch turned out today. We went to Mac Grill and the fun friend ended up going too. We ordered our drinks and one girl was training that was waiting on us. When she "tried" to deliver my coke she knocked it over...all over me, my legs, my crotch and my purse (thank goodness my purse was closed and also that I didn't have my phone on the table or in my purse). They moved us to another table and continued to apologize and wipe me down. A few minutes later the trainer came with refills and (you guessed it) dumped the whole glass of tea on my friend..coverered her! Same scenario as we were moved to yet a third table. By then the other friend was afraid to sit with us. We were scared when the MANAGER delivered soup to us. Needless to say, our lunch was no charge and the waitress felt bad. I told the trainer, "well, at least you are training the new girl how to spill." Good thing we were so cheerful. The manager came over and said, "well, it was kind of funny the first time but not the second time." Ummm hello, I told him it wasn't all that funny the first time!!! My clothes are now in the washer and I am cleaninug up as tonight we go to watch my youngest granddaughter fly up to Girl Scouts from Brownies!!

Dianne/Denver said...

COUNTRY MUSIC ALERT......

Tonight is the George Strait Special in Las Vegas at 7Pm my time. There are a lot of good music people on like Tim McGraw, etc., saluting him and singing songs. I will be recording because of Girl Scouts and then dare we miss the Nuggets game!

Lynn D said...

Well Dianne I think you just may have the sweetest crotch in town! LMAO

Just_Lin said...

LynnD I mean what are they supposed to do with the cat poop after it is covered in litter? Are they required to flush or bury it, too, or is that only a law pertaining to dogs?

Dianne Sorry, but your story made me laugh! It was that funny the first time! LOL

goldie said...

Lynn- I will break the law thank you. I refuse to buy a doggie potty or septic or whatever. Thats just not right!
Way to go on the bread stuffing!!

Shirley- I was hoping you would take up the collection...:)

Dianne- so sorry, but I laughed the whole way thru your story. I had a bartender once who thought he was Tom Cruise in Cocktail. He wiped an entire pitcher of beer down the bar and guess whose lap it ended up in?? Mr. Goldie and his ball team thought it was just hilarious!! Me, not so much.

GOLDIE: I thought the second time was rather funny too. My poor friend had on beige pants with tea stains. She laughed and said she got them over the weekend at Goodwill for $2.50 so I think she was okay...besides she was the "fun' one and doesn't get upset much. She said the whole lunch cheered up her day...too bad she had to go back to work.

LYNND: Hmmmm, Mr D just came in and I think I will tell him my story via you...regarding the sweetest crotch in town!!!

Not to mention my prescription yesterday cost me $335.oo and I have friggin insurance! WTF? Now I gotta figure out which Peter I am gonna rob in order to pay Paul.

Maureen said...

K-GIRL...$335...HOLY CRAPARONI. That is ridiculous. How are people supposed to afford to take care of themselves. Shit. I'm sorry you are having such a rough day.
{{{hugs}}}

kahonugrl said...

I know right? I have great insurance actually, but this prescription was just off the charts. I feel so incredibly bad for the elders out there. No wonder they can't afford to eat, by the time they get their meds there's no money left~

Just_Lin said...

Kgrl I agree wholeheartedly! Two of my asthma medications are ridiculously high. I'm lucky that I can get them using my husbands military Rx coverage, which gives me a better break than my regular insurance would. The normal price, without insurance, would be over $400 for one and over $200 for the other.

Maureen said...

KGIRL...I wish I could help you out. Can you get a rebate from the manufacturer?

JUST LIN...It is a good thing you can use the Military prescription program.

People shouldn't have to choose between food and meds. Just wrong

kahonugrl said...

Probably not Mo. I chose to go the non-narcotic addictive route on my med, and seeing as I have chosen this route it seems my insurance considers it a "choice" over what the doctor would prescribe to me. When I asked my doctor he was like GREAT! Apparently not many of his patients refuse the "Happy Pills" and go the non-adictive route.

That's ok, the insurance companies will just be paying for more meds furthur down the line on most people or rehab to help them kick it..... and I will still be happily waddleing around still bitchin about how much my meds cost....lmao.

bonachichi said...

Goldie, I just read your blog (no comments yet -- just the blog) and am impressed with your observational humor. You put Jerry Seinfeld to shame.

bonachichi said...

Vig, if you take those magic pills, you won't care WHAT time your flight leaves, where it's going or when you get there.

bonachichi said...

Well, I'm almost through today's comments, but didn't get to about half of A51 yet. Anyone want to give me a summary of Tina's assholes? She's got more than one? And they speak via telephone? I'm intrigued!

bonachichi said...

Drugs in the U.S. (snort!!). What a bunch of crap. I only take 1/2 of 1 pill per day. For BP. It's $30/mo in the U.S. I just had it filled in IT for the equivalent of $7 US. The exact same chemicals in the exact same ratios.

We must build legal fees into the cost of drugs in the States.

East Bay J said...

Kgirl I feel for ya.

You want to hear something interesting about meds... Paula was diagnosed with high blood pressure in March.

Our vet prescribed her Norvasc, and called it into Walgreens (it is a human bp med but cats get it too. Our vet doesn't carry it).

Anyway, MR. EBJ went to Walgreens to pick it up, 10 pills cost almost $19!!!!

A friend of mine (a veterinarian!) told me to check Dr. Foster and Smith web site. It is a veterinary supply co and they also sell meds.

Well, I was shocked to see that the Norvasc was 19 cents each as compared to almost $2 a piece at Walgreens.

I ordered 40 of them, which came to $7.60. They are located in WESconsin, so no tax. They have free shipping. The best thing was that I found an on=line coupon for $5 off any order, so all those pills ended up costing $2.60.

Even her appetite stimulant med which cost us almost $25 at our vet (for 15 ml) was much less through that pet pharmacy.

How crazy is all that??

Just_Lin said...

Bonacci Good point about the legal fees. We are sue happy in the U.S.

Maureen said...

I had to take 40mg of a pill and there is a $4 program for a long list of meds here. My med was only on the list in 20mg, so my doc wrote my script for 2 - 20mgs per day. I got it for $8 a month. It was cheaper then my copay, so I didn't even use my insurance for it. My other pill was about $75 a month but Costco sold it for $60. My pharmacy matched that. You don't need a membership to Costco to use the pharmacy.

Just_Lin said...

Excellent point about Costco, MO!
