I am sitting here writing a blog, not sure what it is going to be about, so I am staring at the blank page, and I turn to the TV, and I see a friend of mine on the local news. It was a real estate segment, and he is a Realtor, he actually told me about it, but I forgot, so I was shocked at first to see him, and then I remember that I was suppose to watch. Thank goodness I did see him, because I don't have to lie to him. The segment was about homeowners wanting to buy new homes but not able to sell their home without taking a loss. And many people can't hold two mortgages, so they have to give up on perhaps their dream home to stay in the one they have because at this time its a buyers market. I was just speaking to my dad about this, as our house is a big two family, and our taxes are about 13grand a year. If we were to downsize we would have to sell our home to buy a new one, and with the market the way it is, it would not be enough to buy one the size that we have
now. So of course we are staying put. But I think of all the people who are probably trapped in a home that they paid so much for, and to resell it, they would surly take a loss. My cousin (Aunt Jo's daughter) was thinking of selling her townhouse, as she is now just one, but she would lose
to much money, so she has to stay where she is until the market turns. I guess the way the market is, it works best for a new home owner, they can buy a great home for good price, and hopefully when they are ready to sell the market will be much different..
So, from a no blog to a blog in just a few thoughts, few words. See you never know what the words will bring..
And btw... My friend looked fab on T.V. I can't wait to tell him..

Congrats on first Tina! I hope you have a light in that closet you are blogging from! LOL
Carol your blog reflects what is going on in most of America right now. Our house has lost $50,000 dollars in value because we had a foreclosure two houses down from us and the house was sold at auction. We are lucky that we still have equity in our house even after that.
What makes me sad and mad are the when the media and politicians go after people and call them losers and dead beats when they end up in foreclosure at this time. It is the lending instituions who have put us all in this mess!!! They did not do their job when handing out these loans. It was their job to say you do not qualify! It was their job to make sure these people were vetted, but hey they were counting on people not being able to hold on. They figured they would get them in fees when they went in and applied for a new loan at a fixed rate or they would get the property back and sell it a full market value at that time. GREED run amok!
To me it is criminal that we can't get legislation passed to keep people in their homes by renogotiating the terms of the mortgage. It not only affects the homeowner but everyone who lives in their area. They walk away and everyones property values keep dropping.
The most infuriating part is that the banks stopped the legislation because they are doubling down. They will still get the property and with the bailout money, they will hold onto it until the markets turn around and will sell it at a profitable price when that happens. The rest of us in the process keep losing. They could fix this so that prices would level off, just by the renogotian of the bad loans but won't because GREED is still running Amok! They are gambling with our money now so what do they care???
Sorry about the long post but this is probably in my 10 ten PET PEEVES or just plain pissed off list!

My friend is gay, he once was straight, married, child, etc. etc. than for some reason he woke up one day, and was gay well actually he was prob always gay just could not accept it.. I was not shocked at all, I always thought he was. But I will tell ya, what a awful time he went thru coming to terms with it all.. He is doing great now.. His parents, siblings, exwife, child, friends are all ok with it.. While in high school he told me he had a crush on me, or at least he thought he did, I told him he had a crush on David Cassidy, but just did not know it..

Did you see that Continental is laying off 500 ppl and closing their Tampa offices. They are offering packages to all their employees, and if anyone wants to move to IAH or SLC, they can apply for a job there..
I actually think its not bad idea, downsizing will always help a company, and at least they are a company that have not outsourced.. Cause let me tell you, I despise outsourcing, it should never be, it actually should be against the law..

I was so hoping when they sent out the assessments that our house would go down- no such luck. My real estate taxes are going up! The houses in my neighborhood are still going strong and not really selling for below value thankfully. There is one just around the corner going for a bunch and I hope it sells soon. Most of them are going in about 2-4 months.
My daughter-in-law is begging us to sell and move up there closer to them. She better be carefull what she wishes for!
Hope everyone has a great day. I spent last night with son shopping - how I got roped into buying him underwear and t-shirts I dont know, and out to dinner. We had so much fun and he had me laughing all night. He helped pick out a couple of great pair of shoes for me too!
Today we are going to visit relatives- his Grandma and Aunt & Uncle and cousins. Grandma (Inga Binga) is leaving for the summer in Germany in 3 weeks- so one last visit for him.

Great blog once again Carol. The housing situation here is terrible also, sooo many forclosures.
Our house has lost lots of value in the past 1 1/2 years. We don't plan to go anywhere so will be glad when things turn around.
We have the other house we rent out that we would love to sell, but right now we would take a huge loss.
We don't like being landlords, but really have no choice right now. Luckily our tenants pay and we are hoping they will want another 1 year lease when August gets here.

Carol The housing market has really suffered here in Calif. My son lost his job due to health reasons and now they will lose their house. The only renegotiations the bank will do, adds so much in fines and charges each month, that there's no way they can afford it, even though his wife is making good money now as an RN. The only good thing is that the house was under his name only so now they are looking to buy a different house using his wife's name only. I hope it works out for them and their kids.
I can't imagine paying $13,000 a year in real estate taxes. How can people afford those taxes, especially when they are retired? I own a small 3 bedroom ranch-style home in a nice little coastal city and my taxes are little more than $1,200 a year.
On the flip side.....Calif. is probably in such financial crisis at least partly due to the fact that Prop. 13 that passed in the 70s, I think it was, limits how much real estate taxes can be raised on houses that have not changed owners since that time. New homeowners pay much higher taxes than I do.

Well, with just one slight caveat! This place is located in a North Bay location with incredible views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the City. However, as all us Bay Area owls will be able to attest, that means that the gorgeous weather and gorgeous weather views that you see in those photos are RARE, RARE, RARE! During the summer months those gorgeous verandas are usually socked in with fog, wind, and cold!
Carol~ I just talked to a girl in the TPA office at CO. She is grateful that she has options and will be re-locating to SLC.

I have decided that when the market turns around, I am going to get a home equity loan and fix the broken things then sell this dump. I know you think renting is throwing money away, but I am sick of the other crap that goes with homeownership. If something breaks I just want to call the custodian and have it fixed...for free.

I took that little bird to a wildlife hospital today. What a great place... they work on donations and take in any wildlife that is found, injured, orphaned, etc.
I left him/her in good hands and hopefully the little creature will eventually be released back to the wild.

Our property taxes are astronomical too. I sent in an appeal for this year, since our home value has dropped dramatically, so should the taxes.
There was something on the news last night about scammers who try to get you to pay them lots of $$ to get your prop. taxes decreased, when all you have to do is go to your county's web site, find the form, print it and send it in. All for free!
