Jesus?

by Bonachichi

I just saw something, and I'm puzzled about it. It said, "I believe in Jesus." Really? How much of a stretch is it really, to believe in something that's real? I believe in gravity. Am I a visionary?

Isn't the existence of this Jesus fella unquestioned? I think his parentage is in question, or disagreed upon, but the fact that there was an actual person by that name was, I thought, unchallenged.

Maybe I'm missing the context of "believe in." People believe in me to get a job done. Great. So we believe in Jesus to do something? If I'm dead though, nobody's going to be expecting much from me. Why does Jesus have all this pressure?

I also see people have "found" Jesus. I didn't know he was lost. And if they've found him, why can't they just take him to wherever he belongs? I swear, by the number of people finding this guy, he must be lost all the time. Assuming he's not on disability due to being dead, how does he get anything done?

Now I know there are things we're supposed to take on faith and I've no problem with that. I don't even want a religious argument. These are just some things that make me go, "Hmmm."

Bonacci: Such a good topic, and right up my alley right now. I hear you on the "I believe in Jesus"..but I think they mean that they believe he is the saviour and the one and only true path to God. Maybe? ...religion...a confusing subject for me right now. All I know is, I want to help other people and be kind and do good every day. That is where I am right now.

Bonachichi~ your blog made me laugh~ I get what you mean, but for me, I don't know how I'd live my life without Him~ He's an integral part of my everyday life. Even for those who don't believe as I do, when the going gets tough, and I mean REALLY tough, the prayer requests come~ That's perfectly fine with me. ...and btw...I believe He has THE best sense of humor EVER and would find ur blog funny~ :D

Morning Glories!

Bebbi you are so prettiest this morning! I see you shoved Tina to the floor and took the top spot!

Bon I don't even know where to begin on this one as I have been pondering religion of late and some of the thing done in the name of religion, anger, frighten, and bewilder me. Seems we have some that hide behind these concepts to twist religion into their own form of hate.

Golden Rule. Nuff said and I don't think you have to pronounce your faith or lost and found if you live this. I saw an ex nun on TV who took several years to study all of the worlds major religions and guess what they all had in common? The main tenant of all of them is to live the Gold Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Pretty damn simple. Sadly so many just can't see that.

PS I don't think there is one true path or religion that helps you find God. You have to be open to what is possible all around you. Religion is just a guide.

Tina: I agree with you about the praying, I didn't for a long time and things got bad and now I do again. I am still exploring things but have finally started going back to church too. I strayed a long time. Indecision and complacency took over for a while.

Bebbilane said...

LynnD: SO WELL SAID! THANK YOU!! Wow.

Well hello to Bebbi, Tina and LynnD. Bebbi, perseverance really does pay off, yes? Congrats on beating Unbeatable Tina.

Jesus is one of my FB friends. He must be working undercover because he uses a different name. Even I know it's him... he's got the hippie hair and everything.

Seriously though, I mean no offense to anyone. Please don't chase me with burning torches.

Bebbilane said...

No offense taken, bonachichi..really good subject that needs to be talked about more in an open, friendly and caring environment! No judgement. Yes, perseverence pays off..but everyday I still persevere..fight the good fight, never give up, let go of all the unnecessary noise, go go go, and all that jazz.

Good Morning all...

Bonachichi....

Hes not lost....lol.....when people say they have found Jesus or God they mean that they are familiar with the story and they accept it and want to live by it.

Although incredibly far fetched...its a great philosophy. A "rule book' if you will... for living and trying to be more like Jesus...who...by the way..was perfect.....I personally have surpassed this goal and have moved on....

However I am still on board to advise future contestants that while parts of the Bible are relevant today.... many are quite antiquated and that followers need to update accordingly....as far as I know the only religious group that does this are the Jews...Gods chosen people.

And along your religious path through life you must never twist and manipulate scripture to use as a tool of hate and divisiveness...and never forget that all are Gods children....created and loved equally....

And yes....any entity having to deal with all the fucking nuts who claim to follow him/her all over the world....is bound to have a fantastic sense of humor and a script for Prozac.....

There are large numbers of people and groups giving this way of life a very bad name these days....driving people away from the fanaticism and hate.....fortunately....if you are determined that you need a guide....there are many alternatives to Christianity that are non-violent... where hate doesn't exist....with no threats of fiery lakes and eternal damnation for slipping up....

I have a list...have ur people call my people and I'll share...

DeeDee said...

at this time would all the Protestant Christians rise and turn to page 83 in your hymnals and joine me in verses 1-4 of "Bringing in the Bucks"...I mean Sheeves!! "Bringing in the Sheeves!!

Ahem.....Hit it Pearl.....

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves;
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves

I forgot something....

you know with all the many many churches that have popped up with their own interpretations of the bible....or as I like to say....picking and choosing scripture that fits their needs and what they think needs to be followed....it just make the whole thing...if you could swallow it to begin with....a huge contradiction...

And in the last few years I have used the word hypocrite to death and I have grown tired of that word ...therefore...in the future...

all prior hypocrites and things hypocritical shall be...

I was just thinking about my "friend" Jesse and Jesus when I pulled up this blog. My "friend" Jesse starts his mornings on Facebook with a prayer and his profound devotion to Jesus. Then today he said he is tired of seeing that "f....t" on TV that left the airplane.

Really? I just don't get it. I so wanted to delete him on the spot. Then I told myself to stop for a second before I go "deleting happy" and remember everyone has their opionion and just because it is not yours don't go deleting him.

I just want everyone to play nice on the playground.

Good Morning Hooters,

Bebbi- congrats on kicking tina~ off the throne!

Interesting topic. I don't think that everyone believes that Jesus is a given, and I respect that.

I also believe that most people pick and choose what they believe in the bible and its teachings. I am in totally agreement with DeeDee that the 'book' needs to be updated once in awhile. Are Fathers
still allowed to sell their daughters into slavery to pay a debt??

Way too many things I have to say on this subject. You can imagine as the Mother of a gay man, the use of the bible and church to denounce my child is top on my list of outrages.

I will leave it at that, Lynn has said what I think already- (did you know that we are long lost sista`s??)

Hope everyone has a great day! Lets 'pray' for the Judge in CA to allow gay marriages to begin again today!

DeeDee said...

hi Jennifer....

see! Just like I said....ur friend Jesse is a contradiction!!

I can count the Christians that I have known that actually talk the talk AND walk the walk on one hand.....

Jennifer...it is an opinion....but it does not jive with Jesus teachings....

I will never forget this woman....She reminded me of Joanne Worley on valium.....
I as at the home of a friend who had sold this woman a truck for her son to use.....Miss "Worley" said "praise the Lord 15 times if she said it once....everything was Jesus this and Jesus that...."oh...the Lord has really been working in our lives...we are so blessed lately'.....

I am hearing all this shit and when they are doing the truck title thing "Miss Worley Christian" asks my friend...."ah...well... do you have to put down the actual amount we paid? Because if you put less the TT&L won't cost as much..."

SO! Miss "The lord has been working in our lives and we are so blessed praise JESUS-AH!" wanted my friend to LIE so she could STEAL!!

C O N T R A D I C T I O N S!!

DeeDee said...

Jennifer...

I was thinking..... deleting serves no purpose....

everything begins with us...me..you...everyone.....when you run across someone using words like that...if you know them you can talk to them....and tell them how they made you feel and why its important to you that people you care about not to harbor hate or ignorance and to remember "WWJD!...

Of course our lives set the example...but in these emotional times... particularly with the gay rights struggle....people are afraid of what they don't know...

and we all need to be bearers of light and love for those still burdened with ignorance and prejudice....

BEBBI, You are beautiful inside & out!
My head is still buzzing from all the commotion these last few days. I need to get gross-eries which is what I was about to do before the call about my brother. My allergies are not cooperating!

Bonachi, I think many people lose & find Jesus many times. Many get discouraged, depressed, angry etc and "find Jesus" again. Sadly we are a flicked society and tend to "find him" only when we are burdened by something.
I am with LynnD's thought on the "Golden Rule".
I will say that all the thoughts, good wishes/karma,candles lit, prayer chains ,the last few days for my Brother Tony gave me great comfort and peace. I know when Whabby commented it made me cry because I know he is not religious, but still a sweet caring man!
Diane thanks for the chuckles at just the right time :)

I need to find my personal assistant to get me ready, wait, that was DeeDee, I must still be in a fog lol!
Have a great day all!

Didn't the Muslims put a bunch of graves along the way?

bonachichi said...

As I told DeeDee...

I am reconsidering my faith. While Christianity promises eternal life, the Pygmy Mud God is promising a pig and as many coconuts as you can carry. I'm sure you will all agree; it's a tough decision.

Bebbilane said...

Bonachichi: Sounds like the Pygmy Mud God plays Tiki Island..or one of the FB apps.

bonachichi said...

Really Bebbi, I just made him up. But who doesn't want pigs and coconuts?

Bebbilane said...

My problem is, you can't tell me all the buddhists are not going to get eternal life..or all the muslims..it's just too hard for me to believe that Christ is the only way in. To me, and I know I am going to ruffle some feathers.. but, to me, it just seems like God has created more than one way in to heaven. Sometimes I think I was Jewish in another life. Just doing a lot of soul searching lately..about love rather than hate.

There is just so much personal stuff about this right now, it's amazing you wrote this blog Bonachichi...thank you so much.

Bebbilane said...

Some churches won't accept you if you have a lifestyle that doesn't fit into their rule books..it's just hard for me to accept that.

Bebbilane said...

Back to the Golden Rule.

bonachichi said...

Yes, Bebbi. Some churches don't want certain people. I was told not to come back when I threw a rubber chicken into the rafters and 3 days later, it fell down in the middle of a service.

Bebbilane said...

Seriously? LOL..you are such a goof ball, young lady~! lol For some reason, I really believe that.

Well, for example..my sister's friend divorced her husband..and took a boyfriend kind of right away...well, she was taken aside and asked not to come to her church anymore. It was made known by all that she wasn't welcome.

To me, that is sad..for her and for her children, who, btw, can still go.

Bebbilane said...

It seems to me that your church should be the place to help you during life changes..not shun you. But, that is just me.

Bebbilane said...

To me, God wants us all. Okay..if you are pure evil and are trying to harm souls, maybe he doesn't want you..but for most of us, who try to live a good life, love our families, work through our hardships,etc..

No one is perfect. Jesus wasn't perfect.

bonachichi said...

Yeah... I didn't make the rubber chicken up. It was enlightening to hear swear words in church, though.

Bebbilane said...

OMG..I will shut up now..going on and on..somebody please help me find my off button.

Interesting blog ChiChi and it does kind of make you go hmmmm. Very interesting comment too.
I think like many of you of the Golden Rule but I also have my faith and believe in eternal life and really counting on that some day.

I got my hair back to normal color today and got kind of a new haircut. It looks really cute tonight but tomorrow when I do it....probably not so much.

My daughter and I are going to see Toby Keith and Trace Adkins tomorrow night. I am looking forward to it but just nervous about the whole handicap thing again. I hope it is as easy as the last time we went a few weeks ago.

PT is getting harder this week as we are now taking off the boot for the therapy. I only am wearing the boot when I go out and after Sunday that will be over!! Yippee!!!!!!

Thanks, Mary, and I'm glad my words were of some comfort!

Bon: No puzzlement here. People don't believe or not believe in the simple existence of a man named Jesus. Virtually everybody accepts that a historical figure by that name actually did exist (although I don't think the direct historical evidence for the existence of a man named Jesus is very strong, the way it is for the existence of, say, King Herod and other figures in the Bible).

No, when people say they believe in Jesus, they generally mean that they believe that not only did a man named Jesus exist, but also that he was a mechanism for the supernatural entity that created the universe to take human form in order to interact with humanity. They believe that this person was conceived via miraculous means. They believe that this person was endowed by the creator with the power to perform miracles. They believe that this person died and then was brought back to life and then died again, only to attain some form of eternal existence on a noncorporeal plane that nevertheless allows for the entity to be in direct contact with people on this earthly plane of existence. Last but not least, people who believe in Jesus also frequently believe that if they worship this noncorporeal entity, some version or form of themselves will survive their own physical death and gain privileged access to it, relative to someone who fails to worship.

For what it's worth, I believe in none of these things. However, I do believe strongly in the golden rule, and in the importance of compassion and empathy to our fellow man, teachings that are attributed to the historical Jesus. Since I believe in much of what Jesus taught, I guess in some sense I believe in Jesus, too!

Whabby: So well said!! You are a true gem.

The author that I like wrote a blog about jesus's image..the true image. I think it's interesting. If you guys get a chance...

it is www.joedinki.blogspot.com

And the one he wrote about Jesus's image was in June and is called "Historical or Phantosmagorical". You should go and check it out.

It's more about his physical image than anything else, what he would actually look like if you were to take a true look..not the image that is portrayed today.

Okay..going to see if I missed #1.
