Sad Violin

by EBJ

Last night, we went to bed and were kind of joking and kidding around.  MR. EBJ said something kind of whiny, and I said "let me play my violin for you".

So I grabbed my phone and pulled up You Tube, put in "violin" in the search, and this is was the first music video that came up.

I listened to it and it is beautiful, and has some incredible pictures!

Good Morning!

EBJ: Just beautiful! My grandfather played the violin, obviously not this well..but the music still reminded me of him. Thanks for the calming video this morning!

TINA: Congrats on some early morning moaning!

LYNN: I love 'the littlest violin in the world..' :D

Well..I'm a year older..I wonder how long before I get that old lady smell? Mr Z said "Not yet" lol..

Thank you for all the Happy Birthday wishes here and on Facebook..and the msgs at home as well. I'm so dang sentimental..each one meant the world to me. Thank you so much.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

GOLDIE: Thank you for talking to M and bringing her story and opinion to us. It is so very important to hear what those who lost loved ones on 9/11 have to say. Excellent blog yesterday.

Good morning....

Now I am not going to say that I invented the violin....but!

When the violin was invented people were playing it with their fingers...which was awkward with the way you hold the thing....and it just didn't sound that good....

I knew I could improve the sound and the playing comfort so I started experimenting...playing it with a saw blade.....well that worked pretty well until I would become immersed in the music and saw the whole sum'bitch in half...

I finally hit on the bow you see used today....yes....corn and violin bows....

I am so excited to see this video posted to day....it will prolly be watched 15 to 25 times and ka-ching! My mani/pedi money for the week is in the bag!

Thanks EBJ....(keep an eye out for a little TOMA in the mail)

DeeDee, don't forget the Mars Rover and the Hubble telescope. You invented those, yes? Looks like you'll get triple royalties!

DeeDee said...

no Bonachichi....

I'm not very techo....those things are too complicated for me...

The corn business is pretty simple as you can see in this little report I've prepared...

Full Corn Products Report

Excluding National Starch acquisition costs and impairment and restructuring charges, second-quarter 2010 adjusted EPS was $0.75, a 121 percent improvement over the second-quarter 2009 adjusted EPS of $0.34.

Diluted weighted average shares outstanding in the second quarter of 2010 were 76.6 million, up from 74.8 million in the same quarter last year.

"I am pleased to report that we had another very good quarter," said DeeDee, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "We saw strong volume recovery across all our regions.

"In North America, we continued to see strong demand from the beverage industry in Mexico.

"In South America, volume growth was led by our customers in the brewing, confectionary, processed foods, and packaging industries.

"Volume improvement in Asia/Africa was led by customer demand for sweeteners and starches in South Korea and the confectionary and textile industries in Pakistan."

Net sales of $1 billion in the second quarter of 2010 increased 10 percent versus $912 million in the prior-year period.

The primary contributors to growth in net sales were a positive $143 million from higher volumes and a positive $44 million from stronger foreign currencies, partially offset by a negative $96 million from lower price/mix.

The price/mix decline was largely attributable to North America and reflected the normal correlation between lower corn costs and the corresponding decline in selling prices.

Second-quarter 2010 gross profit of $164 million improved 47 percent versus $112 million a year ago.

The gross margin of 16.3 percent compared favorably to 12.2 percent last year.

The improvement in gross profit was attributable to cost improvement due to higher utilization rates, lower unit corn costs, cost reduction programs, and stronger foreign currencies.

Operating expenses in the second quarter were $73 million, including $4 million of cost related to the pending acquisition of National Starch.

Excluding the National Starch acquisition costs, operating expenses were $69 million, or 6.9 percent of net sales, versus $61 million, or 6.7 percent of net sales, last year.

The increase in operating expenses reflects a return to more historical run rates, the impact of stronger currencies, and higher costs.

Operating income for the second quarter of 2010 was $77 million, versus an operating loss of $73 million last year.

Second quarter 2010 results include an asset impairment charge for the Company's plant in Chile.

The Llay-Llay plant suffered damage during a major earthquake that occurred in Chile on February 27, 2010. After receiving a completed engineering report in the second quarter, the Company recorded an impairment charge of $18 million.

Excluding this impairment charge and $4 million of costs related to the pending National Starch acquisition, second quarter 2010 adjusted operating income was $99 million, a 90 percent improvement compared to $52 million last year, excluding $125 million in impairment and restructuring charges.

Net financing costs in the second quarter of 2010 were $7 million versus $11 million last year, down $4 million on a combination of lower debt, higher cash balances and a positive $2.5 million swing in foreign exchange.

The second-quarter 2010 tax rate was 44.3 percent versus 1.1 percent last year, reflecting the impact of the impairment charge in 2010, the 2009 impairment and restructuring charges and National Starch acquisition-related costs along with changes in earnings mix and discrete items.

I'm pretty simple minded as you can see....

I can't believe I read that!!~ (rolling eyes)~

I am ignoring Tina's beauty today. I can't see it though all the frickin fields she has planted in "my" farms~!

DeeDee, you a-"maize" me!

Waving at LynnD, Bonachi, Jodi ):) go team!), & Zona (chuckle, chuckle)

Have to run! I am going to our local theater to see Jeff Daniels and I need to get my face on! "Now where did I put it?"

bonachichi said...

I read that whole flippin' dissertation very carefully. DeeDee being DeeDee, I figured she's bury something funny in there. I see she's in charge of all the corn, but I don't know enough about stupid corn to know what else is funny.

Corn corn corn. Everywhere there's corn.

Hi hooters!

Congrats once again to Tina for being prettiest!

Dee Dee, you cornstantly crack me up!

You should come to our summer corn fest next July!

OK I was just on Facebook. I have a friend who posts practically EVERYTHING she does.

Got up, having coffee, now going to work, stuck in traffic, need to fart, settling at my desk, etc. all day long.

You know what I mean, on and on. It is so tedious and do we really need to know every detail?

OK I"m done with my vent.

MR. E did not think it was funny when I played the violin music! But I did show him the pics, they are really cool.

DI, he goes for a re-eval this Weds. He goes to get an x-ray first, then sees the dr.

He still has some pain and it is still somewhat swollen, so I am not sure he will be going back to work on Sept. 1st.

I imagine he will get another month off. He wants to go back to work, so will not be happy if they tell him he can't.

Today is laundry Sunday and then we will swim this afternoon. I love days like this, no where to go and nothing to really do.

I slept in til 9:00 which is super rare for me! Felt great.

Shirley I am so glad to see the new avatar! :)

Have a great day everyone!

EBJ; I would love to have a FB friend like that! Imagine the entertainment possibilities! You could ask intimate and embarrassing questions about her actions; Oh, the fun would just NEVER END!

Happy Sunday Owls.

EBJ, Beautiful music and pics.

Tina, Pretty as usual.

Lynn, I hope you're feeling better. If not, get thee to a doctor.

Zona, Happy 50th and 1 day. I don't smell anything.

DeeDee, I'm glad I can contribute to your wealth by eating corn. I even use the cobs in my outhouse on Farm Town.

Bonachichi, Are you still in Italy?

Waving wildly to all the Owls. I hope you all are having a great day.

Well I'm here. At BLX. Waiting for the plane. Off to SZ for another exciting week playing Tunnel Rat.

I seem to have acquired a fan in SZ. We call him Lecherous Larry. He waits outside my dorm in the morning, follows me there at night. Asks me all day when I'll have cafe with him. I want to smack his hardhat with a baseball bat. Think they'll ask me back after doing that?

Bonachichi: I take it you are in Italy?

I feel so out of touch here, I am really sorry for being away so much. I am going to make an effort to get back here more this week. :)

EBJ: Oh jeez..I hope it's not me! I am a little "post" happy some days too on FB. But, I have to say, I never posted when I had to fart...lol.
