Black Friday

Its seems today is the day that all the crazies get up at 3AM to go shopping for all those oh so great deals. We see all the commercials, newspaper ads and e-mails advertising all the sales. I have seen and heard from many people that it is an absolute madhouse at some of these stores. I also hear some horror stories of some people getting trampled.

I for one want no part of waking at 3AM, or shopping in terror! So I will stay in my turkey coma for the entire day, and be happy that I am not in any store, fighting my way thru.

Are any of you one of the crazies?

Good morning EBJ....you are stunning this morning!!

CAROL - No freakin' way was I going out there today!! I don't get my year-end bonus until the 6th, so I don't have the funds to shop anyway. I was going to maybe to do Dad's shopping for my kids today, but didn't remember to get the check from him earlier this week. A co-worker of mine texted me and said that Wallyworld's parking lot was full at midnight. CRAZY!!!

Just sitting here enjoying some Christmas music on my computer while my laundry is going. Thinking about taking Jake to see the new Harry Potter movie today.

EBJ. You're looking beautiful this morning.

Jodi. I'm at my Mom's and still in bed. Enjoy your day.

SLIN - Enjoy the day with your Mom!! And even though you're still in bed, I'm sure you are stunning, too ♥

Carol. There is no way I'd go anywhere near those sales today. We've seen on the news how people have been camping outside of stores for days. I want to know where they are going to the bathroom.

Just_Lin said...

Jodi. LOL. Not so much, I assure you.

I'm going to try to go back to sleep for a couple more hours. I'm still in a bit of a turkey stupor.

SLIN - I have seen you in the morning....and you are a vision even then!! Muah!!

Morning glories!

EBJ you are radiant!!! congrats!

No I am not one of the crazies and I have to say this year is really bumming me out.

I watched the Macy's Parade yesterday, first time in many years. It was like one long freaking commercial. To me there was no joy in it at all.

Since that store is working actively to take all of their sales people back to minimum wage and cut their benefits in our area, oh and if they don't get enough credit applications signed they will get fired. I refuse to shop there. Period.

I am for the most part going to support the Mom and Pop businesses and anyone who treats their employees like human beings.

PS really pissed about the stores that opened on Thanksgiving. Truly disgusting and takes the joy out of the holidays.

Can't figure out why prostitution is taboo in this country we seem to sell our souls for some plastic crap from overseas so may as well make a buck where we can.

Waving at everyone. Sorry for the downer but this is how I feel this year.

LYNN - I was dumbfounded that more and more store are open on Thanksgiving. I accept that the company that I work for chooses to be open on every holiday. And I think most people are thankful that we are too.....last minute milk, bread, beer, ice, gas....whatever!! I signed on for this gig and I truly was thanked many times for us being open yesterday.

Good morning!

Ooooooooooh I feel so stunning!

Up early to try to do some on line shopping. No way would I go to any stores today.

The Kohl's in our city opened at 3:00am and I heard from a friend who was there when it opened. She said she couldn't believe the lines!

MR. E will head over to Beast Buy to see about getting a lap top that's on sale.

He's still snoozing, so I am sure they will be gone by the time he gets there!

I agree about the stores open on Thanksgiving. When we were driving yesterday, we saw that the Wal Mart in Martinez was open, and the parking lot was completely full.

We had a wonderful day yesterday. The crab season just opened, so we had fresh crab. Yum!

Mo from area 51: I do eat fish and seafood, but no chicken, beef, etc.

No reason why, just lost the taste for it many years ago.

MR. E ate some meat when we met, now just eats fish.

Coffee is ready, time to shop! Have a nice day!

P.S. Not only being thanked for being open, but also that I was working!! It truly made it worth my while being there. That and the time and a half ;)

Target.com must be totally overloaded, still waiting for the page to load so I can complete the purchase.

I bought a few little outfits for my baby niece, so cute and really good prices.

Happy Birthday Bebbi!!

Jodi I get why mini markets are open and even some grocery for a limited time of the day. I think it is great your company at least paid you time and a half.

But why have holidays at all? Many people are working them because they don't have a choice they need the money or are afraid of getting fired in this economy. So we all go about pretending that we care about our fellow man, but really not much.

We accept that people are not worth paying a wage they can support their families on and benefits are a thing of the past. Jobs with retirement are too.

It just seems very sad to me that we cannot at least demand that people actually get some time with the families they work their asses off for. imho

Old Navy and the Vacaville Outlets opened at midnight.

My niece works at Peets Coffee and said they were slammed yesterday.

Still waiting to pay for my Target items. Page won't load up.

Good morning feathered friends!

CAROL...I am crazy, but not THAT crazy! I won't be shopping today. I have seen Black Friday lunatics during my career in retail and I am not that much of a gluton for punishment!

EBJ...good morning gorgeous! Mmmm, crab!

JODI...I can certainly understand a Kwik Trip being open, as well as a pharmacy or even grocery...but not WallyWorld or other mean companies that ruin the holidays for their employees.

LYNN...That is horrible what Macy's is doing. Companies expect loyalty from the employees but show none in return. As for the credit apps...been there done that. I once was in trouble because we didn't get enough apps signed. I was managing the ELectronics dept. at the Broadway and there was no reason for someone to use the credit card in our dept, so they signed up where they could get the bonus discounts for opening. My staff was horrified that I was in trouble and they went into the Mall and recruited people to get cards! They were spotted by the General Mgr. and he realized how hard it was in our area and stopped harassing me!

JUST LIN...Hope you got your nap in! I feel like I am in a stupor, too! And I only had 2 slices of turkey!

I find it difficult to get into the "Holiday Spirit" after Thanksgiving when retailers have been shoving Christmas down my throat since October. What's so special about today? Oh, I know. Greed starts in, full throttle. For the retailers, wanting to help people do away with that pesky cash, and the buyers who can't be satisfied with what they've got. More more more.

I don't buy holiday gifts anymore. If I want to give someone a gift, I do it when I want to, not when some knuckle-headed retailer tells me I should.

When I first moved back to Cleveland in 1994 I ran into an old friend who was working at K-Mart. The year before they decided to be open on Thanksgiving. She had worked there a number of years. She hosted Thanksgiving for her entire family...kids, grandkids, in-laws...
Her boss said it was vouluntary to work the holiday. She didn't volunteer. Two days before Thanksgiving he put her on the schedule. She had to be there at some un-g-dly hour in the morning. Poor thing had to get up in the middle of the night to begin the preparations, go to work and then come home and host the dinner. It was so unfair. By 1994, she quit and came to work for me.

Oh, a big Happy Birthday to Bebbi. The hottest chick in the nest!

Happy Birthday, Bebbi!

Well, Lynn D, tell us how you REALLY feel! LOL!

I certainly am not one of the crazies. I hate shopping anyway, so you can bet your bottom dollar that I won't be out trying to buy something on Black Friday!

Happy Birthday BEBBI!

CAROL: Nope nope nope..there was no way I was going to brave those lines for anything. Uh-uh. Mr Z was driving to work at about 1am and he said the traffic was terrible and the parking lots full..can't even imagine shivering in line for a Blu-ray player..or anything else! I don't see anything wrong if you want to do it..it's just not for me.

EBJ: You're looking gorgeous today! LOL@ Beast Buy! :D

JODI: I hope you and Jake enjoyed the movie..especially since you got more rest this time!! ;D

LYNN: I always worked holidays when I worked retail..even Christmas! I would get a laugh out of people that would come in and tell us it was just wrong that we had to work the holiday. I thought, but never said, if you didn't come in..we wouldn't have to work!! LOL!

BEAR: Did you find a way to stay warm last night? ;)

MO: I hope you got lots of leftovers! btw..I'll be making Monkey Bread for Christmas! :D

MARY: SWAK!! :)

Gotta go pay bills again..just like laundry..it seems to be a never ending job!

Have a good day everyone!

Good evening feathered friends!

I needed something from Walgreen's and it was empty! YAY! Then I decided to stop in Dollar General because one of the things I was looking at Walgreen's was double the price. Dollar General...empty!

They were open yesterday and I asked the kidif it was busy yesterday and he said it wasn't busy at all. Not worth ruining the holiday.

EBJ, over 10 hrs later you are still a moanin beauty :)

I never left the house until 5pm today. I had no desire to hit the stores.I will be donating to Las Vegas soon enough! lol!!
Sorry so many are in a "Bah Humbug" mood. I am happy the shoppers are stimulating the economy. After all it has been going on for a long time and will be all over in 28 days. wait, then it's the "white sales", the clearance sales,,,,,

A few years ago,Kmart fired a lot of it's top employees and offered them their jobs back at an insulting rate. A friend of mine worked there for many years and was let go. Made me sick!
Kmart is no longer here.

Back to my laundry& ironing....
FB is messed up right now

Evening all,

I know I am pretty down on stuff right now and feel very on edge. I am sure the not smoking is contributing to this but everything just seems off kilter in our country to me right now.

As far as stimulating the economy we will see. The reports I am hearing are that the high end stores like Tiffany's, Nieman Marcus etc...Are doing great business. The middle class stores not so much.

Wonder if the rich of the richest will wake up when no one can buy their goods anymore?

Any who full of left overs. Going to check my farms and then veg out.

Whabby I am afraid if I told everyone what I really feel I would clear the state and the nest. :) Believe or not that was filtered.

LynnD,I keep forgetting you are in cig detox. I remember when my son tried to quit. He was a bear! You at least got past the first 2 days which he did not! I admire you for quitting. I will stay off your last nerve lol!!
I keep hearing that the high end stores are not doing well at all, and are not stocking nearly the inventory they used to.
I wonder if DeeDee has cut back? lol!

Sweet dreams, HOoters. I'm glad no one went out and got trampled in a store like I saw on the news.I haven't been much of a night owl lately. I'm too worn out to stay up the way I usually do. Xoxo

FWIW, DH and I went out shopping after about 7pm last night. We needed to get a new Christmas tree and the "Friday only" sale wouldn't stop calling me. The roads and the store were eerily quiet.

We DID venture out to Home Depot eariler in the day and I was surpised to see how many people were shopping there. Not surprised at the ones buying gift items but definitely shocked to see how many were purchasing large amounts of lumber and other materials for large projects. I thought we were the only crazies trying to finish up a remodel project over Thanksgiving weekend.
