Autumn

by Maureen

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp air, the low humidity, curling up in my blankies and the paint palette of colors. I know it leads to winter, but I still just love autumn.

I remember hayrides and apple picking. And playing in the leaves. And getting excited to pick my Halloween costume. And sitting around a fire pit...making s’mores and sipping hot apple cider. And clam bakes. And driving around looking at the beautiful colors god paints the leaves. And sweaters. And corduroy pants. Leotards under my skirts. Falling back. School football games and drinking hot chocolate in the stands. Capped off by Thanksgiving...pigging out with tons of family around. I am excited for the fall...are you?

What is your favorite part of autumn? Please share your memories or how you will spend this autumn.

Good morning Hooters! Congrats on 1st, 2nd & 3rd birdee!!!!!!!!

Autumn- well I agree that it is a wonderfull season, and if it went right back into summer I would be thrilled. I hate winter, so to me autumn is just the prelude. However, I do remember (except for the clam bakes) all the same things as Mo and now that I am a grandma, I look forward to Halloween and those things I will be able to share with the kids.

Morning Glories!

Tweet Tweet, Little Birdee got first!

Wonderful blog MO!

Fall to me is changing leaves, cold crisp days, love when the sun is shining. The smell of bonfires in the air. Bonfires in Autumn are like the smell of fresh mown grass in the spring and summer.

I get to go back to my comfortable uniform of jeans and polar fleece (the new sweater to me). My love hate relationship with Halloween. Love to see the little ones all dressed up (baby has a new dalmation outfit from one of his Aunts), hate how early the retail stores drag out the Halloween displays and after many years of carving pumpkins hate the mess and am so glad I do not have to do this anymore! LOL

I will pop in once in awhile today but have much to do as Mr. Lynn D and I will be going to the other daughters house tonight to baby sit the older grandsons. Mom and Dad are going to a wedding and it could be a long night. LOL

Be back in a bit.

Jodi said...

MO - Thanks for breakfast!!! I'll grab some coffee and pumpkin bread....I have to take Sam to WYSO practice, so I'll be eating on the run!!!

Pumpkin bread? I love it- thanks for breakfast MO!

Good Morning Friends. I wanted to check in this morning and thank everyone who sent me such wonderful messages and comments. I am in a daze today and not able to catch up on blogs and comments. The last one I read was Tina's beautiful one about grief. I feel like I have been in a selfish bubble since last Saturday but I can't seem to help it. The service was beautiful and now I will spend the weekend in quiet meditation. I promise I will be back on the blog on Monday. I will read everyone's blog and comments. I felt it all the way to the graveside. As I stood up to put the first pink rose on the casket the sun burst out from behind the clouds. I know it was a sign everything was going to be fine. Thank you again for your support. I am signing off and going back to bed for a few hours. Love, Tinka

Happy Saturday Owls.

Mo, I grew up in Los Angeles and there was no real changing of the seasons. I didn't experience that until I moved to Northern California and I saw the beautiful colors of Fall. I have always loved this time of year, but that is because my birthday is in October. Now I love it for all the reasons you wrote in your blog. Thanks so much for writing such a beautiful blog and reminding us.

Good Afternoon!

MO: I love Autumn too. It means we get to finally turn off the air conditioner and open up the doors and windows to the cool breezes that blow in the evening. Neighbors that have been hibernating all summer peek their heads out...and everyone gathers outdoors to talk. We all consider Halloween our first 'sweater' night...and the neighbors all gather around our house for a impromptu block party as the kids Trick or Treat. Mr. Z is planning on putting up the lights for Halloween next weekend...and thus it begins!

Great blog MO...I can almost hear the leaves rustle in the cool breeze!

Ah, MO~~Do I love Autumn? Uh, does a bear poop in IBB's yard? (lol)

Foggy mornings giving way to crisp sunny afternoons, awakening to a landscape painted a different color each day, mulled cider stirred with a cinnamon stick, fleece and fuzzy slippers, buying candles and next year's calendar at a countrified harvest fair, the crackle of a fire in the fireplace while the windows are still open to the fresh air and the sounds of cheering and marching bands from the high school nearby, frog-songs replacing the cricket crackle at night, the never-ending crockpot of soup on the counter, old-fashioned apple crisp or pumpkin ice cream, pine cones, nuts and gourds on the table instead of sneezy flowers. Yep, love it!

Renee Eve said...

Fall/Autumn is my all time favorite time of the year. The colors, pumpkins, apple pies, the cider mill. I'm already decorated for Halloween I know its early, but my son Victor who is 7 wanted it done. I have my costumes ordered for the boys, Batman, Dracula and my son Victor made me order the Vampiress It comes in Plus size so thats why I ordered it. I haven't dressed up in YEARS and I mean YEARS this should be fun. I'm his room mom this year. They like the room moms to dress up. I'll be back later, We are leaving for 6:00 pm mass, then we are meeting with our pastor for some encouragement or whatever of what has transpired over the past 2 weeks. You guys have been a BIG HELP to me, more than you can ever know, all the personal messages, comments on myspace, You have helped me ALOT. Even tho I am very sad to see Summer go, I do appreciate Autumn, mostly for the cool yet at times warm weather. I love autumn colors as well, browns, taupe, dark orange.
And of course my favorite Feast is in October "The Feast of St Gerard" Novena starts on Oct 7 which then leads up to the feast.
Novena is at the church I go to on Sundays, and the parking lot turns into a feast haven. My mother and father were both batismed at this church, and they wed there about 55yrs ago (can't remember the exact yr)....

Thanks for todays blog, I appreciate it so...

I am going to read comments now. I hope everyone had a great day! I walked in a heart walk this morning and walked 20,000 steps today!! Only my second time ever doing that.

Happy Autumnal Saturday Everone!

Great Blog Mo!

Like everyone else, Autumn is my VERY FAVORITE time of the year! I love the Harvest Fairs, going to the Pumkin Patch farm with the grankdkids, and the Corn Maze on HWY 101 in Petaluma, the smells of Apple Cider simmering on the stove, my famous Gingerbread Cookies (the BEST), baking in the oven, trees changing colors, and like so many of you said, the crisp mornings, giving way to Sunny afternoons!!

The only thing I don't like, is when all the leaves on my Liquid Amber tree start falling, and they get into my neighbors yard, and she complains EVERY year!!! But, in the hot summer my trees shade her living room/kitchen and she tells me how lovely the shade is!! Oh well, you just can't please some people!!!

TINKA~ How lovely to hear from you! It sounds like your Mother's Service was beautiful, loving, and comforting for you and your family. Take all the time you need to meditate and grieve, lovely lady, we will all be here waiting for your return. ((HUGS))

MAUREEN~ Thanks so much for the kind words. Yes, the Nest is a sanctuary for me and others.
I am afraid I was one of the ones that voiced my opinions, Politically, the other night on the Nest. I am not trying to stir up any controversy, believe me. I usually try to stay very neutral in these matters. I just had to vent a bit, and felt safe here doing so.

I am sorry if anyone took offense to my views. Dissent is what created this wonderful United States over 200 years ago, and we are so lucky to live in a Country that still allows its Citizen's to voice his or her opinions, as long as they are done with dignity and respect towards the other person's views.

Well, I get to have my Grandchildren for the night, and they will be arriving soon, and I still need to run to the store for snacks!

Have a Lovely Evening Everyone,
Donna Jean

Hi Owls! Sorry I've not been around much lately. So busy with work, Girl Scouts, my daughter's activities, etc. It's been a LONG, HARD week!

LOVE autumn, and I loved this blog Mo! The pictures you added are gorgeous. Thanks for the pumpkin bread too. Yummy!

My daughter and I were out & about today and we noticed the changing colors in our beautiful hills here. People here do not appreciate the beauty we have all around us.

Tinka: My thoughts and prayers are with you still. I had tears in my eyes and chills up and down my spine when I read that about the pink rose and the sunshine.

So much bad news this week. I am so sick of the C word! (Cancer) I get angry every time I hear of another person I know finding out they have it. I mean, it's almost every day now!

I'm really tired, so I'm going to bed. I hope to be in a better mood by morning.

Carol, do you live in or near Newark? My girlfriend lived near there and is now in Oakland, NJ, but her husband's name is Gerard. You mentioned St. Gerard's feast. I believe that church is in Newark! He is supposed to be the patron saint of mothers and it took her about 8 yrs. to get pregnant so she was always praying to St Gerard. Her husband being named after him didn't help one bit. lol

Good night, owls.

Maureen Loved this blog! Autumn is also my favorite time of year. I love the colors of fall as they are my favorite colors for anything, really. I also love the foods at this time of year. It's time for more homemade soups, stews, casseroles, etc., what I consider to be "comfort" foods. As a child, it also meant starting school and getting a bunch of new clothes and school supplies. I always liked that.
