I was driving home from work the other night and heard this song. I love Elton John. I love his songs. Sometimes I listen carefully to the words and sometimes I don’t. That night, the words spoke to me. I had been talking to my best friend earlier in the day, and this song made me think of her. She’s the kind of friend you can laugh with, cry with, share your secrets with, disagree with, and yes, even fight with. She’s intelligent, hilarious, caring, supportive, and just plain sassy! I wish we lived closer to each other. I wish I didn’t have to work so we could spend more time together. I wish I had written this song for her…..well….not exactly the same words….but you get my meaning. “How wonderful life is while you’re in the world!” Tell me about your best friend. Is there something special that reminds you of them?

ITEACH...congrats on 1st!!!!!!
My friend Rhonda and I have been friends since high school.
It is so amazing how much are lives have change, but we still manage to keep in contact.
We are at different points in our lives right now, but we still manage to take the time to connect.
I'm changing diapers and she is giving her daughter the "sex talk".
She is a unhappy divorce woman right now and I found the love of my life.
I'm so glad that we are still there for each other.
Thanks Mo!
Great blog Tina, because it reminds that I need to call her today! :)
It wasn't too long ago that I was the single gal and she was married.
When she was married her ex was always good about me hanging out with them on their date night.
Now our roles have changed, she comes to the movies with my hubby and me.
Morning Glories!
Wow Iteach were you perched on that branch all night just waiting to beat Mo? LOL Congrats on First!
Hi Mo Congrats on second! LOL
Tina I love that song! I am so lucky that my best friend only lives about 10 minutes away. We might only stop at each others houses once in awhile but we talk on the phone just about everyday, sometimes 2 and 3 times a day.
She had a medical emergency a few weeks ago from what should have been a very simple outpatient proceedure and ended up in the hospital. Luckily it all worked out.
I have to tell you I had a moment when she called me from the hospital after her husband rushed her there, that my stomach dropped to my toes and selfishly I thought what would I do without here? It scared the heck out of me.
She and Mr. Lynn D are my rocks and have helped me navigate all the ups and downs in my life. I truly felt a sense of deep loss for just that split second and I never want to feel that way again!
We have known each other for over 20 years and she is the sister I never had.
If she is lurking and reading out there, I am waving and sending her big (((Hugs)))!
Good morning iteach, congrats on 1st!
Good morning mo and lynn and all the Hooters who follow.
My best friend really is my husband. But that aside, my best female friend I have known for 29 years. We met at work and we were both pregnant. Our kids were born 6 weeks apart. 4 years later we gave birth withing 6 months. Boys for me, girls for her. We both have grandsons born within a week of each other!
We dont live in the same town anymore, but our friendship has stayed the same. She will always be there for me and I for her.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Hi Iteach! Congrats on 1st!
Good morning Maureen. What happened? You were a bit slow this morning. It isn't like you didn't know when the blog would be posted. Lol!
Morning Lynn D and Goldie!
Tina another great blog! I love that song. But who doesn't like Elton John anyway.
I'm not sure that I have a best friend. I have a friend I went to school with. She was my next door neighbor. We were the misfits in school. She wore two hearing aids and I was fat. No one ever picked us for anything so we always stuck together. I remember the day she told me she was gay. We were at her house and I knew there was something she wanted to tell me but she kept stalling. Finally she told me and I said "So are you attracted to me?". She said "No" and I said "Ok, so we're good ". I remember the look of relief in her eyes. I'm not sure how she thought I would react but it was obvious that my reaction was not what she had expected. We have gone our separate ways over the years but I know if I asked her for help she would do whatever she could. I would do the same for her.
I have another friend who is the mother of the two kids I talk about sometimes. I go to her house sometimes and she has come here too. We talk on the phone. She has taken me to doctor appointments and grocery shopping and I have driven her to the city (she doesn't like all the traffic). When the kids were smaller her mother and I were the only ones she would leave them with. We disagree on a lot of things, but we are good for each other. I even allow her to hug me once in awhile! Lol!
Good Morning Everyone.

I will be back in a few minutes.
Congrats iteach. You beat Maureen and that's hard to do.

Good Morning Owls....may you have a day filled with yellow! Huge hello to the early birds...iteach (congrats on first!), Maureen, Goldie, Lynn_D, Shirley, neighbour lady Tink and to all who fly in later.
Tina...fabulous blog! It is amazing what thoughts one song (and what a great song it is) can trigger. Thanks for writing a blog that has me thinking about the amazing people in my life and how lucky I am to have them!
My best friend's name is Rob. We were roommates for about a year many years ago. We dated on and off, but that always seemed to fizzle out. When he came out at 40, I tried to support him as he figured for himself out what it meant to be gay. We have gone different directions literally and figuratively, but I always know he is there and he knows I am here....he is my Will and I am his Grace.
Good Morning Iteach, Maureen, Lynn, Goldie, and Shirley. Happy Sunday to you.

Tina - I off to read your blog.
Good Morning Everyone!
TINA: Excellent blog...as always! My best friend would have to be Mr. Z..he is always there to support me and to help me get through even the roughest of days. He's also a wonderful listener...especially if I take the TV remote away!! "Your Song" is one of his favorite songs..and one of mine too.
CONGRATS ITEACH on FIRST!!
Waving HI to MO, LYNND, GOLDIE, SHIRLEY, TINKA and VIG!!
TINA: I also have a wonderful friend who lives in Ca. I've known her since 2nd grade, when we both chased Donny D. across the playground. Ya know, I can't remember which one of us caught him!! We were best friends all through school and have stayed in constant touch for 41 years. She is thinking of moving back to AZ..and I can't wait!!
Tina - I love Elton John songs. I have now listened to your video three times. I also love his song "Sacrifice". I can play that one over and over again.

I am getting so good at hitting #25. It makes my day lucky.
My best friend was my sister. When I lost her, a part of me went too.
It is hard for me to name a best friend because I have a few friends I would give my kidney to, (I think that is a good test).
The best friend I have had since I was 6 was a little girl who sat down beside me on the double desks they had at St. Anne's. I had been at a public school for a few months but this was my first day at a brand new school. It was her first day too. We were both so scared we were trembling. She held my hand and we have been best friends ever since. We have seen each other through "the first date", boyfriends, weddings, births of our babies, accidents, birthday celebrations and the loss of our fathers. There has never been an important event in my life that she has not attended and vice versa. We now both have elderly mothers whom we love dearly but our able to talk about the frustrations we sometimes feel with handling a loved one with dementia. We don't see each other often but we know we are just a phone call and ten minutes apart. Her health is not good right now. I pray we can both grow old together.

I just re-read the comments and I notice I did not say Good Morning to my BFF's, ViG and ZonaBaby.
VIG - Good Morning my Dear. You must have been typing while I was typing because you weren't there when I scrolled down. I am so sorry to have missed you. Isn't it is beautiful day today? I am going to play all afternoon on the deck with my baby. I can't believe it's going to be warm enough to do that. Last week I was taking down all my decorations. Now it's summer again. Have fun today.
Zona-my-Baby - I missed saying "Hi" to you too. That's the best part of being friends. You know you will be forgiven for doing something silly. I didn't realize I hadn't said "Good Morning" to you. I was busy marching and then went over to read my messages.
Sorry Sweetie - It won't happen again. It was nice talking to you on the phone this morning. You have a great day too.

:-)
Good Morning Mek.
I have to get all my baby toys set out to get ready for my baby. I also have to make sure there is nothing breakable that she can reach now that she is walking.
I will leave you with this poem.
A friend is like a flower,
a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
that never comes unlatched.
A friend is like an owl,
both beautiful and wise.
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost,
whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like a heart that goes
strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world
if we didn't have a friend.
I will be back this afternoon. Have a wonderful First Sunday in September. Thanks for the blog and the memories Tina.

Good Afternoon feathered friends!
I didn't LET ITEACH have first...she got it fair and square! I got up thinking the blog would post at 8, saw it was 8:30 and tried to stay awake for it, but just as it approached 8:30, my bladder had a different idea then posting!! Ooopsie, TMI????? LOL
It is now 1:21 and I am awake again!
TINA...great blog! And timely, too! Last night I got together with 2 friends from High School. Actually, Brigid and I have been friends since 7th grade. We had our differences in the past, but we overcame them and would do anything for each other. Mary and I have also been friends since 10th gradw and we are not as close, but still when we get together, it is like we have never had a day apart.
I guess my very best friend is another Mary. We met in 1982. I was a manager of a department at a department store and I came down the escalator and saw my boss talking to a new person. I marched right over and asked who she was! We became fast friends and have been thru the mill together since. We laugh and cry together and KNOW that the other is there for each other...regardless. She puts up with my bullshit and I put up with hers!! In fact, today is her birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARY.
Waving HI to all the owls that have posted and will post.
{{{{{hugs}}}}}
I guess I don't really have a best friend either... if best friends don't include spouses.
That's what happens when you move away from where you grew up. But even back in Ontario, I moved around so much that best friends came and went. And it didn't help, of course, when my closest friend from high school and college died of cancer in 1982!
Waving hello to iteach, 'weenie, Lynn D, Goldie, Shirley, Tink, VIG, Zona, and MEK!
I miss Carol! :(
Whabby, I miss her too!
Hey Wabbear! Glad to see you that you don't have a hang over from last night.
David is my best friend and I always tell him if life hands you lemons then get the tequilla and salt and I'll be right over!
Congrats on first, iteach!
Moweenie gave me a delicious caramel latte so I am no longer going to tattle to Carol, even if she cheats again. Hi Mo--thanks!
Tina, great blog. I have the best friend in the world. We have been BFFs since we met when she was 7 and I was 9. She lived behind me. We have never lived close since we were young but we have talked to each other every week or so for the last 40 years. I love her and her hubby and kids and I don't know what I'd ever do without her. I am never more ME than when I am with her. We laugh so much when we're together that my face hurts. She says she is going to move near me in a few more years and I am patiently waiting!
Hi LynnD, Goldie, Shirley, Tinka, VIG, MEK, Zona, Whabbear, and Dreama (you cracked me up with the lemons thing!)!
Tina, I love Elton John's music. My favorite is :The Way You Look Tonight"
My best friend is Virginia. We have worked together at Chrysler & General Motors for over 25 yrs. We love to shop and go to auctions & estate sales. She is a great seamstress. She has made me many wonderful snugglie nightgowns.
We live 30 mils apart but manage to get together quite often, sometimes just to gab.She is the one that got me excited about traveling. Our husbands are good friends too.
I better get back to my cooking. I am making chicken & dumplings.
Come on over!!
Hi All! Congrats on first, Iteach! Way to sneak in past Mo!
Thanks Mek, for the acknowledgement of my weight loss and walking. I am trying really hard. :)
Hello to iteach, Mek, Tink, Shirley, Vig, lynnD, Dreama, Whabby and anyone I may have missed.
I had a couple of BFFs in school. One of them I keep in touch with via a Christmas card every year. She lives in Arizona now. I used to stop by and see her when she was in our hometown. I think she's been in Arizona for about 5-7 years now. Another BFF I have lives in Maryland. She and I became best friends when I lived in Virginia. She moved away when she went through a really messy divorce, we talk on the phone about once or twice a year. She is an awesome individual and I would have to say I had the most fun with her. I went on vacations with her and everything. I really miss having that kind of friendship. It is hard when you move around the country. IT takes years to establish those types of friendships, if ever.
I don't have any really close friends now. I have friends that I go to lunch/dinner with but no one I would call my best friend. I think my mom would be the closest thing I have to a best friend in my life right now. We do a lot together.
We had a really good day. I made a totally "chic" meal. Salad with chicken breast as the main course and pretzel salad for dessert. :) It was awesome and also what my daughter wanted for her birthday dinner. She will be 19 on Tuesday. And so it goes, my youngest is all grown up now. I can't believe in another year I will not have any kiddos under 20! Where in the heck does the time go?
Mary!! I LOVE chicken & dumplings..YUM!! :) and hello too.
Bebbi~ Hi! sshhh don't tell birdee lol!!
Mums the word. Why not tell birdee? *looking around to make sure birdee isn't here* ..hehe
MARY/MI: YUMMO!!
MEK: I think we are stuck with the heat until October...108 tomorrow here...104 right now. I know, I know...but bragging rights are on their way!! (did you hear that BON'O??..LOL)
SANDIE: Another parallel!! :)
MO: Happy Birthday to your friend Mary!! I meant to ask you about your avatar..it's just beautiful!
HEY and HI BEAR!!!
TINKA: What a wonderful poem! Thank you for posting it!!
DIANNE and SACBARB: C'mon out...tomorrow's the BIG game.
BEBBI: It's a little early, but HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY to your daughter!!
Speaking of best friends, did anyone ever have an imaginary best friend?
I read a fun book about that called Sunday's at Tiffany's or something like that. The exact title is escaping my cluttered mind right now.
Holy Buckets, I did not realize tht Arizona was still that hot right now.
I also just looked up on the map to see where Shirley lives. Honey, you don't live anywhere close to VIG and Tinka. However, I think you might be aware of that. lol
I need to look up where Lovey is now that I'm learning all about Canada.
Bebbi, you have inspired me to do some exercies today.
ITEACH: Come for a visit..you'll love it here in November!! :D
Zona, I think I would love it even more in January!
ITEACH: Yes you would!! Highs will be in the 60's...and sunshine, sunshine sunshine!! lol
SHIRLEY: All that sunshine reminded me of you!! :)
Zona,
I will bring Shirley with me.
iteach` Me too, me too!!
Thanks Zona! She is at the university 2 hours away on her actual b-day. :( But we had a wonderful day today.
Iteach: Good to hear I inspired you! I have 10,231 steps so far today!! I got up and walked the dogs, went to walmart, colored my hair, did some laundry, made dinner for the daughter, took some stuff to the consignment shop, went to my sister's and I am about to go on another little walk again to walk off eating all that pretzel salad!
MARY & ITEACH: Let's see..I have two extra bedrooms..one is booked, so you all might have to double up...unless...anyone for the sofa???
BEBBI: Your day wore ME out!! ;) I am probably just a little dense...but what is a pretzel salad?? (I'm laughing just thinking that you'll say a salad with pretzels on it LOL)
Hi All!
What the heck is a pretzel salad? Can I have a hot fudge sundae salad? or a tiramisu salad? LOL
ZONA, I will gladly take the couch at your home when it is 15 below zero and the windchill factor makes it worse! Aren't ya glad you offered!!
BEBBI, Happy early birthday to the daughter!
ITEACH and WHABBY...I miss Carol, too. I hope she is still having a much deserved awesome vacay.
I slept the day away...got NOTHING accomplished. I MUST get to the gross-ery store, but I think I may forage and dig around the cabinets, fridge and freezer instead. ;(
Hmmm, maybe a lovely and generous owl from the northeast will bring us dinner!!!!!
Bebbi, I read in area 51 that you have lost 15 lbs.by mostly walking. That is how I lost 10 lbs. I literally walked my ass off in Europe lol! I am ashamed to admit that I have gained most of it back, but thanks to you I will get back to walking every day. Some times I think we need reminders(kick in the ass)to get us going again! Thanks. I am off to walk.....
Sundays is usually my day off but since you asked so nicely here you go.
Dinner is served!
Pot roast
Mashed potatoes
Fresh yellow and green beans
Fresh from the garden carrots
Gravy
Homemade rolls
Tea
Coffee
Water
Extra Slim Fast for Tinka and Bebbi

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've not been around much lately. The play that my daughter was in has taken up so much of my time. Now it's over and I'm kind of sad. I'll miss the people a lot.
All 3 performances went great! After a late cast party last night, I came home and took some NyQuil and went to bed. Everyone in the play, including the director and the moms, are sick.
I slept all night w/o coughing and then I slept most of the day away. I still feel like I'm in a fog. Going to bed very soon because I have to be up at 4:30 in the morning.
Just wanted to say hello to all of you. I also wanted to tell Tina that today's blog was a wonderful. I so enjoyed yesterday's video too. Haven't had time to read any comments. If there is any BIG news I should know about, someone please send me a MySpace message.
I hope to be back on track in a couple of days.
Mek you missed a great match between Nadal and Murray!
Hartldo I hope you feel better soon.
Off to watch some more tennis.
Pretzel Salad
First Layer:
2 cups crushed pretzels
3/4 cup melted margarine
3 Tablespoons sugar
Second Layer
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese (we use the low fat, the philly "free" doesn't work as well)
2 cups whipped topping (small container)(same thing here, we use the light not the fat free)
Third Layer
1 large pkg (6 ounces) strawberry flavored gelatin (We use the sugar free but always by the "Jello" brand as it tastes perfect in this salad)
2 cups boiling water (I actually just make the jello as normal)
1 10 oz box frozen stawberries (I use fresh cut up really small).
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Put the first layer in a 9x13x2 inch pan. Bake 8 minutes. Remove to cool.
Second layer - beat sugar into cheese, stir in whipped topping. Spread over cooled pretzels (have patience, cool is the key, believe me I have learned the hard way on this one)
Third layer - mix gelatin boiling water and strawberries together and set aside 10 minutes. Pour over cheese; chill thoroughly
- another note on the third layer - if you use fresh strawberries you have to let the jello chill part way which takes about an hour. I usually let the jello set some, add the fresh strawberry and then watch it until it is more gelled but not totally to poor on the other layers.
The frozen strawberries and 2 cups boiling water are just as good and easier. The frozen strawberries makes the jello set faster (obviously).
So that is Pretzel Salad and it is YUMMY and not too bad for you!!
pour..not poor..sheesh! Sorry.
Hart: I remember doing stuff like that with my kids. It is sad when it is over. I bet it was fun. :) I hope you don't get sick.
Mary/MI - yay! another walker!! woo hoo :) I walked 125,781 steps the last two weeks!
Thanks so much for the Slimfast Shirley!! It has kept me in check for sure. :)
iteach Congrats on beating out Mo today! LOL
Mo Congrats on 2nd!
Tina Great blog today and great song. I really like Elton John's songs.
One of my best friends lives at the other end of the state and we don't see each other often at all and don't call much, either. We have been friends for over 50 years and when we do get together it's as if no time has passed at all. I have another friend who only lives a few blocks away. We met at work over 20 yrs ago and we have the same sense of humor. She takes care of my cats when I go away and if I were to die suddenly she would take them in, no question.
Shirley Thanks for dinner. I love pot roast. I haven't made that in a couple of years now. It's just too much for one person.
Hooter*Hugs!
I'm behind a blog or two, but it's nice to transition back home on a blog about best friends, after a weekend spent with friends from early childhood. There are just no friends like life-long and/or long lost friends.
Speaking of nester-friends~~I, too, am missing Carol...and Jennifer, and Lovey, and Joey, and Susan, and Amicus, and Want, and K'girl and...dang, lots of folks. MS is great, but I'm missing your posts here.
Hope everyone has a healthy, happy and hurricane-free week!

SHIRLEY...thanks for the yummo dinner!
ITEACH...i hear there are scorpions and rattlesnakes in AZ, so I will be camping on the couch, not in a tent!!!!!
MEK...hey there!
BONO..I agree...I miss the MIA owls, too. And add BIRDEE, RONNIE, GOLDIE and JAX to the list.
It is bedtime (yet again!)
Thanks TINA for a fun bloggy today. See y'all tomorrow
ITEACH - Congrats on first!!1
TINA - Great blog. :D I've known my best friend Rhonda since Jr. High, but we really didn't get to be best friends til we were in our early 20's. I was working at a bank at the time, and my supervisor said she hired her, and I said you hired who?!!? Well, we knew each other in school but I wasn't terribly fond of her. I'm glad she got hired. We turned out to be best friends. She was my matron of honor in my wedding. Our lives are very busy, but I know that if I EVER need anything, that she would be right there for me (like when my brother and my Mom died).
ZONA - The chicken turned out great!!! Thanks for keeping me company while I was cooking. :D
BEBBI - My aunt used to make that "salad", but it was called Pretzel Dessert!!! lol!!
Hello...
Nice blog today Tina. I have a couple of best friends and am very fortunate to have them live in the same city as I do. We keep in pretty close touch either by visiting, email, phone calls or it seems a lot of voice messages!
ITEACH: I receive that Lakeside catalog and order from there from time to time.
I have had a slow day today. I slept late and then got up to read the paper and promptly fell asleep for a couple more hours. I must be saving my energy for the big MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME...are you ready for some football...ZONA AND SAC BARB? ZONA, is your husband wearing the correct shirt today and tomorrow?
Shirley - hope you stayed up for the women's final tonight.. that gal gave Williams a run for her money!!
Bebbi - thanks for the recipe...

Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments on my blog. I loved reading everyone's stories on their best friends!~
iteach~ congrats on first...stick to changing diapers...the 'sex talk' isn't so much fun! Hubby told my oldest, "You put the pole in the hole!" And then he used his beer bottle and his hand to demonstrate!!!~
