"Down with Love"

by Zona

I have a guilty pleasure...it's not something I talk about a lot, because people usually roll their eyes and laugh when I do. I can't seem to give it up though...no matter what anyone says. What is it? The movie "Down With Love". I absolutely love it. I love the story...the actors....the songs...and the fact that it is just so campy. Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor make me smile from the first scene to the last. I bought the DVD as soon as it came out, and yet I'll still sit and watch the movie when it's on cable. It's a take off on the Doris Day/Rock Hudson movies of the late 50's and early 60's...which I also love. Do you have a favorite movie that's a guilty pleasure...or perhaps your guilty pleasure is something else entirely??

i guess this may be called my guilty pleasure!!!!!!!

ZONA... I never saw this movie, but I will look for it. I think my guilty pleasure movie was the scene that CAROL put up last week, the ending of Dirty Dancing. I have watched that scene about 283695163573485748392 times! seriously!

ITEACH...so glad your test results were negative. *happy dancing*!

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

My sister sent this too me this morning and I thought I would share with y'all.

Purina

Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina
dog chow for my loyal pet, Sheriff, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and
have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I
ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming
out of most of my orifices and IVs
in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way
that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two when you
feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it
works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the
dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he
was laughing so hard. Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.

Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.

I'll try and stop in once more before I leave for work. Maybe SHIRLEY will have brought us some food by then. *hint hint*!

Good morning Maureen (I don't know why you are so shocked), Goldie(congrats on technically being first) and Tinka.

Zona I have never heard of this movie but I liked the clip. If I ever get a chance to watch it I will let you know what I thought of it. I don't think I have a guilty pleasure movie. I will think about it.

Zona - I love this movie. It was the first DVD I ever bought. Unfortunately, it was in widescreen format. Now that doesn't matter with most DVD's that are in widescreen because you just zoom them in. This movie however was filmed very similarly to the Rock Hudson and Doris Day's movie "Pillow Talk" where they used a split screen. If you zoomed in, you lost the two stars who were on each end of the screen. All you got were the two bathroom room walls and two sets of feet touching these walls. (You would have to have seen this movie to know what I am talking about). Anyway I loved the movie so I went out and bought the video which of course is always full screen. Now that I have a widescreen TV I have watched it many times. I always have to follow it up by watching "Pillow Talk" and noticing the similarities. I love the way they have Tony Randall in both movies.
I think I will choose them tonight.

Goldie - I must be a 'movie nut' because I love the original "Father of the Bride" and it's sequel "Father' Little Dividend". Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor were great in them.

Zona....my much younger niecie, this is a fabulous and fun topic. Love it!!!! Let's see...guilty pleasures....hmmmm....Cherry Garcia, books by Emily Giffin, chocloate swirl cheesecake, having a pedicure, CapnCrunch, Grease, jelly beans...and the list goes on and on.........

Since most of my guilty pleasures are food...I am heading to the gym....see you later!!!

Tinkatia said...

Mek - Here I go again. "While You Were Sleeping" is also a movie I love. I have watched it so many times I think I know the lines. I love the Christmas scene in it.

Goldie - I also really like the new "Father of the Bride" and its sequel. I usually don't like re-makes i.e. "Cheaper By the Dozen" doesn't come anywhere close to the original 1950 ones.

Tinkatia said...

VIG - Good Morning. Isn't it a lovely day? Have fun at the gym. I love your guilty pleasures too.

Tinkatia said...

Shirley - Thanks for breakfast. I will have a big fattening one today. Bacon and eggs with hashbrowns sounds great. Of course I will take the Slim Fast for lunch.

Tinkatia said...

I hate to admit my guilty pleasure in movies. I love Amanda Bynes' movies. Their target audience is 11 to 15. That is why I don't usually admit to watching them. She is so sweet. I have watched "What a Girl Wants" and "Sydney White" more times than I want to say. She also has a TV show called "What I Like About You". It comes on daily on the Family Channel. I watch it each day just before I fall asleep. Now everyone can easily calculate my IQ very easily.

I am going to have breakfast, tidy my kitchen and then go see my mom. Have a great day everyone.

Zona great question, hmmm guilty pleasures, well shhhh, watching soaps, I have discovred when I have read a really heavy book that I actually like some of the new Chic Lit out on the stands, love many movies that my family think are dorky, and I won't even go into food it could take a whole page.

Moving really slow today. I think it maybe the fact that I need to go get some major housework done downstairs and I am putting it off until I absolutely have convinced myself that I just can't let it go any more.

Ok I am moving really I am! Where do I start?

Tinkatia said...

Shirley - I forgot to mention your funny story. It started my day with a laugh. I particularly liked the last paragraph

I hope your weather calms down soon.

Zona, I have never seen or heard of that movie--I'll have to rent it! Guilty pleasures...let's see...sitting at my craft table making cards/scrapbooking while eating chocolate and watching You've Got Mail!

Whabbear - I am sorry to hear about your friend's son. I do think there is something in the environment.

Tinkatia said...

Sandie - I wish you lived near me too. Of course you would have full access to my videos and DVD's as do the rest of my friends and family.
I became interested in collecting tapes back in 1968 when we got our first VCR. Every year the Christmas shows would start in November getting the kids all excited and then by the middle of December when the store owners thought all presents had been bought, you couldn't find a Christmas show on TV. I started taping them and showing them to my kids during the week before the Big Night. Then suddenly they started selling the Disney movies. Well, I had to have them because they said they would be out for just a short time and then would be put back in Disney's vault. I bought every one that came out. I couldn't believe that I actually had my own copy of "Bambi." Soon other movies were being
released and I was hooked. As my collection grew I had to start getting a little strict and keeping notes about who had which videos and how long they had them. My son and Dave were the worst two for keeping them too long. I never dreamed that in such a short time videos would be obsolete and we would be changing to the DVD format. It's such a shame that all those movies will end up in the land fill. I am hanging onto them until someone comes up with a good recycling plan. In the meantime I am having fun building a DVD collection. Yes Sandie, you must move near me.

Hi Guys...hope you all are having a great Saturday...it is Saturday, right?? ;)

I just wanted to thank eveyone for the comments on the blog today. I have some 'stuff' I'm dealing with at home and haven't been able to read all of the posts, but I will by later tonight.

ITEACH: I'm extremely happy that your MRI came back clean...you have no idea how good that makes me feel.

SHIRLEY: Sorry I missed your blog. I've never really had a roommate outside of my family and Mr. Z, but I drove them all sufficiently crazy with my little indiosyncrasies over the years. One specifically..."Are you sure the door is locked?" has driven my husband to distraction, as I usually say it when we are comfy in bed.

I also cannot leave a dish in the sink...so while others are eating, I have to wash all the dishes before I can sit down and eat myself.

You wrote a great blog SHIRLEY!

Thank you all again for reading, watching and posting today. I hope you liked the video!

Just_Lin said...

Zona Thank you for the blog today. Great video. I haven't seen that movie. I am not currently "addicted" but I can really get hooked into All My Children.

I feel like crap today. My throat is killing me. I'm going to go make myself some vegetable soup. It's kind of a pain in the butt, however it sounds comforting. BBL

Good Evening Everyone!!!

Whew, its been a LOOOOONG Day here in the Donna Jean/ Laurie Elizabeth household!

We just got home from a very fun day with some friends. Out to lunch, and then to see a local Community Play Production of "The Music Man"!

I really think DONNA JO & I are related somehow, what with her daughter being in a play this weekend, and then Miss Laurie and I attending a play!!! We have way too many similarities going on!

Anyway, I was so impressed with our local Santa Rosa Players! They have a beautiful small theatre, renovated from an old Brewery, and they kept most of the old brick walls etc, so it's still got that "old" Santa Rosa feel. The costumes were exquisite, and the singing and dancing superb! And Laurie and her little friends enjoyed themselves so much!

As for the Blog today, I can't think of a REAL "guilty" pleasure movie wise. I love to watch over and over "Lonesome Dove" with Robert Duvall, & Tommy Lee Jones, all 8 hours on a rainy day. I guess that would be a guilty pleasure, because nothing else gets done that day!

I can't believe it's been a whole week since the 2nd Annual BABBQ! It was such fun, and time just flies by! Can't wait for the next one!

Well, my lovely Owls, I am now going to catch up on the soaps I DVR'D this week (I guess that is a guilty pleasure, too), and make something for Miss Laurie and I to eat.

We have been having such a heat wave this week, I sure don't feel like cooking! They say the weather is going to break on Sunday night, I sure hope so!

Till tomorrow, Peace and Love, Donna Jean
