Six Degrees of Separation

by Just_Lin

Today I did what I do on many days; I had lunch at Kerri's Coffee Shop. I'm considered to be a regular there, as are many other people. I was sitting in a booth, as I usually do, and was reading my book and eating my meal when I happened to look up just in time to see Dante enter the restaurant. Dante Santora is as cute as a button and is in his early 90s. He greeted me in his usual cheerful, outgoing manner and, after a few pleasantries, he took a seat at the counter next to another "regular", Bill.

Instead of returning to my book, my thoughts wandered to Dante. It always lifts my spirits to see Dante. There's always a big smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He's always neatly dressed in a plaid cotton sport shirt and pullover v-neck sweater and, of course, the requisite baseball cap. If it's really cool, he'll be wearing his San Francisco Giants jacket.

Dante seems to have an endless number of entertaining tales to tell about the early days of baseball in San Francisco. See, Dante grew up in the Italian neighborhood of the City known as North Beach. He spent many boyhood hours playing ball in the streets and in local parks with the DiMaggio brothers, Joe and Dom, as well as many other old-time ballplayers, most of which are now long gone.

Before there ever was a team called the San Francisco Giants, there was the San Francisco Seals. Joe DiMaggio started his professional career playing ball with the Seals and Dante was a scout for the club. Oh, the stories that Dante tells of the old days. Back then, they played for the love of the game. There were no big salaries. Players had to hold regular jobs in the off season in order to make a living.

I think all of us know that Joe DiMaggio was married to Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe) for a short time. Dante once showed me a photo copy he has of Norma Jean DiMaggio's U.S. Army Commissary I.D. card. That's what I was thinking about today as I sat in Kerri's Coffee Shop. That, and the fact that Marilyn Monroe later had relationships with Robert Kennedy and John F. Kennedy.

That's when it dawned on me! There are only three degrees of separation between me and Bobby and John Kennedy!

What about you? Is there a connection between you and someone famous in six degrees or less?

MEK got first! OOPs Birdee got first!LOL I just expected it would be MEK as she was on a streak there!

Glad to see your little birdee suit birdee!

Lets see when I worked at the local garden center a few years back I waited on Linda Evans and discussed the best fertilizers for her lawn. Does that count?

Yes Linda Evans lives in our little town of Rainier. She has been a devotee of a local woman who channels a 3,000 year old warrior called Ramtha. Don't get me started!

Also my friend who lives close by has a ferrier who also shoes the horses owned by Selma Hyak (sp). She also lives here now and is a member of the 3,000 year old warrior club. Don't get me started! The ferrier has told us some not so nice things.

I suppose those count tho I am not a person who really gives a hoot as they are people to and really are no different than you and me, well except for the 3,000 year old warrior channeler stuff!

Waving a wing at everyone!

I get quite baffled with six degrees of separation, so I went to wiki:

Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is an average of six "steps" away from each person on Earth.

night.owls.sb said...

I can't think of anything or anyone that I would have this with, I will think about it, and comment later on it..

Hi everyone!

Congrats on 1st Birdee!

I'm running off to work, but my husband is the nephew of 2 famous San Francisco pornographers... the Mitchell Brothers hey (both now deceased).

I guess that counts !?

Have a nice day!

grandma moses said...

birdee, congrats on first! It all counts!

Hi Mek, maybe if you fed them late at night ~ LOL

Hi Tina, hart, zona (it counts), scirish, lynnd (I won't get you started), carol (ty for the explanation), and goldie!

I have to think about this just_lin, but I love this blog ~ should be interesting!

East Bay J said...

Oops that was supposed to be they are now both deceased, not sure how that happened!

grandma moses said...

ebj, Hi, you flew in while I was typing. It counts!!!!!!

whabbear said...

East Bay: LOL! That totally counts!

Birdie: Get out! Your mention of Robert Conrad reminded me that he's probably my closest as well! A colleague of mine, a retired airline pilot named Bob Lawrence, owns the cabin next door to Robert Conrad on the lake! He knows Bob quite well.

Gotta love that Wild, Wild, West! Although... truth to tell... I always thought Artie (Ross Martin) was cuter!

whabbear said...

J/L, that was really interesting! I've always been sorry that the Joe/Norma thing didn't work out. Maybe she'd be alive today if it had.

Lynn D said...

Oh I thought of another one.

One of my Uncles worked on a movie here in Seattle as an extra. The movie starred Gene Hackman and Ann Margaret.

Gene Hackman singled my Uncle out because of a red gimme cap that advertised a brand of chewing tobacco. He then asked my Uncle if he could sketch him. Well of course my Uncle said yes and Gene did. Mr. Hackman also introduced my Uncle to Ann and she signed a picture for him as well.

The movie was Twice in a Lifetime.

goldie said...

I have another one too- my sisters former assistant was Jen Shifts (the bachlorette) former assistant.

Also, my sister knows Jeremy Pivens mom, went to her fundraiser and told Jeremy Piven that she would make a sizable donation if he got her a spot as an extra on the show 'Entourage" . She was on last season. See? I'm almost a movie star!!!! LOL

goldie said...

I believe that is Jen Shiff

goldie said...

I am an idiot- it is Jen Shefft ( I think!!)

ibebold said...

Hey .. it has been while....

Birdee Congrats on 1st!!!

Just lin... great blog...
I have a couple...

A friend of mine is the nephew of Dusty Hill.....(ZZTopp)..

My current boss lived on a commune in this county with the Arquette family... thats right Rosanna, Patricia and David grew up in my little town and went to school here... they left when Rosanna was in high school..

and My sister was an extra in movie with Robbie Benson... and you can see her in the movie!!!!!
that has to count...

Sending prayers to all who need them...

{{{{HUGS}}}}}

To every one.....

Lynn D said...

Okay I am apologizing for this before I type it out but it is the first laugh I have had in days!!

Obama was asked what he will do if Senator McCain does not show up for the debates. Senator Obama stated he would open the floor up and turn it into a Town Hall meeting! LOL Perfect answer and idea!

Ok back to your regular program.

goldie said...

Love it Lynn! I'm sure he will show up now that the Capital Hill photo op is over with the agreement of the bailout now apparently set.

Happy Thursday Owls.

Birdee, great to see you and at #1, too.

J/L, Interesting topic. My co-workers used to play this at lunch using celebrities as subjects. I was never very good at connecting them.

But, when I was a Sophomore my BFF's boyfriend was friends with Tommy Rettig (the first boy on the Lassie show) and we all went out on a double date once. He and the boyfriend were Juniors and he asked me to go out with his friend who was short and most of the girls were taller than he was. (I guess you all know that I am short). We had a good time, but Tommy thought a lot more of himself than I did. He had a lot of cash though and he spent a lot on all of us that night.

Also, the same BFF's cousin is Dean Stockwell, but I never got to meet him.

I bet Mo has a lot of stories about this topic.

sacBarb said...

HEY IBB, so good to see you. Your sister was in a movie??? That means we ALL know a movie star!

Movie Star MEK, congrats on 7-8-9-10. Glad you got to sleep a little later today.

Hi to Tina, Hart, Scirish, LynnD, Carol, Goldie, EBJ, Bear and all who land later.

Tinka, continued thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Just_Lin said...

Birdee Woo hoo! You're out of your cage and managed to be #1 today! I love seeing your chickenowl.

IBB Love seeing you here today. You've been missed!

Thank you all for your kind words about today's blog. I have another connection that's kind of creepy. When in college, Custard went out on a few dates with Leslie Van Houten right before she moved to San Francisco and became a member of the Manson Family. She participated in the murders of the LaBianca's the night after the Tate murders. That means there are only two people between me and Charlie Manson! How creepy, indeed!

Just_Lin said...

My friend, Lani, finally created a MS page. I'm trying to get her to join our discussions here. You all will really like her.

Lani are you lurking out there?

Tinka Continued loving thoughts to you and your family.

HAPPY "OUR-SHOWS-ARE-FINALLY-BACK ON" THURSDAY, HOOTERS~~And, I'm already excited for "EVEN-BETTER-SUNDAY" (B&S).

Fantastic blog, Linda! You painted such an image of Dante. I'd love to buy him a cuppa and listen to his stories. Like Birdee, I've been working myself into a headache trying to think of 2nd through 6th degree connections. Through career paths I've personally met 'celebrities' from Margaret Mead through astronauts, TV and Sports stars, Bill Gates and the Nordstrom brothers. But I'm just not one to go ga-ga over actually meeting or being with 'big' people. I think that's why I'd much rather buy an artist's cd's than attend a concert.

HOWEVER...for years I've only worn Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, and she's Anderson Cooper's mom. Can't get closer than that (especially given differences in age and sexual preferences...DARN!)

DreamaTexas said...

Birdie
I loved your enthusiasm and all of your oh-ohs!
Lets see...
The Labonte brothers lived here. One of the Labonte brothers lived next door to David 15 years ago. He always revved his race car in the alley way between the town homes. I just wanted him to knock off the noise.
I met Farah Fawcett's Aunt years ago when I was a cashier.Back then Farah was one of Charlie's Angels.Everyone was copying her hair cut. Farah used to have a mansion home here over looking the ocean.
I worked for a band called Sudden Impact. They were head lining for Bay Fest. Genie Francis (Laura Spencer from General Hospital) came on stage ahead of them. I was estatic. The band had no idea who she was. Can you imagine! Men!
On a vacation to New Orleans David was sat at a table next to Alec Baldwin at the hotel for breakfast. They actually had a conversation. Alec invited him to come over if he was ever in LA.We have not heard from him since.Duh! Alec sweats a lot. He was there to film a movie and they had to keep changing his shirts.
I have a mental block. What's that actor's name who is Eskimo? His wife left him and announced she was Gay? Anyway, he came here to see his Dad and he came out to the Navy base where his Dad works. My girlfriend's husband called and said get out here quick. I know his name. Darn it.
Last but not least Clint Eastwood came onto Beale AFB near Sacramento years ago to attend the Base Commander's daughter's wedding. Clint was in a limo and he was speeding. My ex husband pulled the limo over for the speeding violation but it was Clint Eastwood. The ex called me and told me if I hurried quickly that I could possibly catch a glimpse of him. I ran next door to my neighbor's house and we hauled ass. We did see the limo but had to stop once it entered the head CO's gates. Drats. My ex could have gotten his signature in lieu of a speeding ticket. If I recall correctly that limo was doing 65mph on a Base. The speed limit was 30mph.
Years ago I knew a limo owner. One of his drivers was picking up George Straight at the airport and taking him around during his entire stay. I was told I could ride up front in the limo so that I could meet George Strait. I couldn't make it. My best friend went and took a bunch of photos. George Strait, married at the time picked up 2 groupies who stayed with him the entire week end. The Enquier would have paid a bundle for those photos. LOL
I also got to meet the lead singer of Iron Butterfly, Mike Pinera when he formed his new band called The All Stars. I have his autograph. He sang Inna Godda DaVida with the new band. They performed in Galveston at the annual Bikers Rally called Roar By The Shore.
Jim Dandy performed with Black Oak Arkansas here years ago during my bleached blond period. I wormed my way up front and got some great photos of him. I shrilled with delight that he pointed into my camera and gave me some great shots. During the break one of his guitar players came to my table and offered me Jim Dandy's hotel room key. I am not a groupie and it didn't sit well at all with my date. I wonder would he have noticed me if I wasn't a blond.:0)
Okay, that's enough. This is getting too long!

Hi Owla...

IBB: Great to see you back and hope you are feeling better. I have missed seeing your posts and I haven't had an anchovie pizza forever!! I wanted to ask you about that "sister" you are talking about that is a movie star...would that be MEK? If I am reading that correctly...I had a movie star visiting me and I didn't even know it!!!!

Ok, my uncle was a top official with the Denver Police and Elvis used to come out here in his day and he loved the police. He became friendly with him to visit on each visit.

Here is another---my son (DPD again) used to the the guard at different functions for John Elway! He also was a guard for Taylor Swift one night at a concert when she was just starting out. He spent some time talking with Taylor and her mother and told us about this girl that would probably become famous.

I will have to think if there is anything more exciting.

BIRDEE: It is so nice to see you out of the cage and flying around. I'll bet your wings were stiff from all that sitting.

MARY/MI: You saw someone win $1000 on the penny machine? Dang, and I was excited about $20. I wish I could take you with me. You know how they comp you for using your card, etc.? Well, I used mine for lunch the other day and I had $2.00 on it. I guess that must be why I don't get great things in the mail from the casinos!

Dianne/Denver said...

Oh, I just thought of another thing..my uncle (now deceased) was an extra in the movie Snowball Express years ago (can't remember who famous was in it but he must have seen that person). :)

We just got the list for our theater tickets for the 2009 season. Color Purple is in it and there is a musical of Little House on the Prarie with Melissa Gilbert. There are quite a few others but these stood out to me. Where is Amicus to tell me if she has seen these...she was always our broadway show critic. SACBARB: Have you been to either of these?

Dianne/Denver said...

Hmmm, I just noticed I said hello to all the owla. I wonder what that even is or means. ZONA; can you google to see if my bad typing might be a word? lol

BONO: I had to laught at you wearing those jeans. It's almost like you are related to Anderson Cooper! :)

JUSTLIN: That is creepy about Custard's old girlfriend. That is a little food for thought! :) Make this owl swear right now..."I will never go to see a boyfriend without letting Dianne in Denver check him out first as she so kindly tried to preveiously for me."

sacBarb said...

Dianne, I will be seeing The Color Purple in November and I didn't know there was a Little House musical. The rest of our season includes, The Drowsey Chaperone, Avenue Q, Frost/Nixon, and The Lion King. I haven't seen any of these except The Lion King.

scirish said...

Ibb....Hello! Hope your back is feeling better!

Dreama...Wow! Could you mean Lou Diamond Phillips?

Bon'O said...

Hey, I'm only a degree or two separated from LYNN_D!! I, too, met Linda Evans in the late 80's during filming of I'll Take Romance. They used a friend's lakefront home on Mercer Island for the residence shots.

And I'm probably the only owl who remembers any of the NBA World Champion Seattle SuperSonics ('79), but 'back-in-the-day' I travelled in their circle and my daughter caught the measles from "Downtown Freddie Brown"'s son at his 5th birthday party :o). Does that count?

That also reminds me...for a while I dated Ahmad Rashad's cousin...but you don't EVEN want to get me started on those stories!

Dianne~~lol @ "almost related to Anderson Cooper"...it's in the genes/jeans?!?

goldie said...

Ok, I'm pretty sure no one is going to top the Charles Manson one j/l!!!!!!!

My son also did security at Country Jam in Northern WI for a few years. He was assigned personally to LeAnn Womack one year and said she was a total delight and invited him to eat dinner with her and her kids. He said the other one he did was Reba McIntire and she was a total diva and bitch (this really surprised me!).

I also know the guy who buys/sells and trains horses for the rich and famous. He is local here and has a lot of hollywood clients. Worked alot with William Shatner.

My mothers neighbor is a distant cousin of Barack Obama. Unfortunatly she died about a month ago - he did not attend the funeral!

Dianne/Denver said...

SACBARB, I just saw Avenue Q and will see Drowsey Chaperone next month. We had no idea what Avenue Q was about except puppets but we really liked it and laughed a lot. Here are the other list of next year shows: Tang Concubines, Quilters, August:Osage County, A Bronx Tale, Spring Awakening. We have some other option shows but don't know if we will do those or not..it gets very expensive!

Zona said...

Owls -- Joey -- Rosie!

I saw Drowsy Chaperone and loved it. We're seeing Spring Awakening on Whabby's wedding day and have tickets for Phantom in December and Wicked is SF (saw it first at the Pantages in L.A.) in 2009.

YH was once served ice cream by Anna Nicole Smith before anybody knew who she was.

I met Tony Danza and his then-girlfriend Teri Copley at Six Flags in Arlington many years ago.

My mom was an extra at JFK airport in a Sofia Loren film.

Kathryn Morris of Cold Case is YH's cousin, daughter of one of YH's uncles, I think.

I used to work at the IRS where Willie Nelson filed the income tax returns that resulted in his bankruptcy -- now there's a stretch! Seeing as how Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey both own houses in Texas, they probably file their income taxes there as well.

Sandra Bullock friended my son back in 2000 on a site called, strangely enought, Six Degrees. I think she thought he was someone else. Six Degrees was sort of like MS and it was very cool but it eventually fell apart and went away.

Matthew McConaughey has a son named Levi, which is the name of my grandson's father.

Robin Williams and Lance Armstrong used to ride bikes together on the street where we used to live in the Presidio and we used to drive past Robin's house in Seacliff on our way home from work every day. I think his wife lives in the house since their separation. Oh and my dogsitter takes care his son Zak's Japanese Chins now and then so that's us - our dogs - Zak's dogs - Zak - Robin. And I used to housesit for a friend who rode in an elevator at a medical office with Robin Williams a few years back when he had a broken arm or wrist.

Okay, that's all I can think of for now.

Have a great day (or what's left of it) my friends!

So I had to go and wiki sixdegrees.com and here's what it said:

SixDegrees.com was a social network service website that lasted from 1997 to 2001 and was based on the Web of Contacts model of social networking. It was named after the six degrees of separation concept and allowed users to list friends, family members and acquaintances both on the site and externally; external contacts were invited to join the site. Users could send messages and post bulletin board items to people in their first, second, and third degrees, and see their connection to any other user on the site. Six Degrees was followed by more successful social networking sites based on the "Social-circles network model" such as Friendster, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Happy "Grey's Anatomy" Thursday Evening to Everyone!!!

First off, I have to say that I wrote a very thought-provoking and personal (long, though) comment on Carol's Blog yesterday, and before I could send it (or save it for future posting), my oldest daughter came over to use my computer, and lost it! Shit, it was a good one too! (oops, sorry, I don't usually curse). But, I was really mad at her for losing my comment, and let her know how mad I was. I don't think she really understood how important that comment was to me, or really cared, and that is what made me so upset with her.

CAROL~ I felt you had echoed every thought I have been feeling for the last several months in your Blog.

I should be feeling very happy. Laurie is feeling much better, we don't have any more heart procedures for a couple of months, and my bills are all caught up for this month. But, I am not happy. I am still worried, stressed out, and just barely hanging on. I put on a good front for my friends and family, but at night, when it is just me, myself and I, and God, I fall apart.

I am not depressed. I just feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and just not real "happy". I know I always try to be positive when others are undergoing trials. One of my favorite sayings is "There is a light at the end of the tunnel". But right now I don't see a bright light. Maybe a twinkle or two, but definitely not a light. Maybe tomorrow I will feel different. But right now, yesterday, and the day before, and the last several days before that, I have not felt like my "normal" self, whatever that may be.

That said, it is time now to comment on today's Blog. LIN, my friend, a great Blog!!! I too have a couple of places that I go to on a regular basis, and it is like a "Cheers", a place where "Everybody Knows Your Name". I go shopping sometimes just to have someone say "Hi Donna, how is Laurie doing", or something similar. It is very comforting to know that these people, who I see only on a "retail" basis, still know me, and seem to care.

As to the Six Degrees, thing, I can't think of much that applies to me. I am related to the famous Essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson. He was my Fraternal Grandmother's Great Uncle. Her own father was named Ralph W. Emerson after HIS uncle.

And that same Grandmother told me that my Fraternal Grandfather was somehow related to President Harry Truman. They were from the same town in Missouri. This though cannot be substantiated!!

My Uncle Jim lived in Studio City, CA, from the late 60's until the early 90's and the house next door to him was owned by several "movie" people from time to time. One was the man who played the Dr in the original Star Trek TV series. I don't remember his name though, SHIRLEY would, I am sure. Anyway, I met him once when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, he has since passed away.

After he moved from that house, Goldie Hawn moved in, and lived with Kurt Russell there for a few months. My Uncle Jim and his partner Uncle Bob, knew them quite well, but alas, I never met them. But I did see a few Christmas Cards that they sent to them.

Miss Laurie and I met Wynonna Judd twice, at concerts in Santa Rosa, but I cannot say that we exchanged phone numbers or addresses! LOL!!

So, that is my "Six Degrees" story. Not much, I am sad to say.

Congrats to BIRDEE for being #1 today!!!

TINKA~ if you are checking in, I just want to say I am thinking of you and your family, and praying that you are OK. I left a post two days ago, when we found out about your dear Mother. I hope you were able to read all the lovely comments that the Owls left for you.

Have a lovely evening all,
Donna Jean and Laurie Elizabeth

OH, I forgot one.

Jon Provost, the actor who played Timmy on Lassie, lives in Sebastopol,(a little Hippie-type town right next to Santa Rosa).

He works for a Title Company, and is also involved in Mortgages and Real Estate.

I met him several times when he would come into my office and deliver Title checks to our clients!!!

One of the ladies I worked with
(much older than myself) would always make a big fuss over him, but I figured, hey, all he is doing is driving all over town delivering checks to OTHER people, what's the big deal????

Lassie, Help Me, I'm Drowning in Title Checks!!!!

OK I have a few more.

I once saw Elizabeth Taylor at Heathrow Airport in London, she was running (literally) from the paparazzi.

My best friend and I used to hang out at a little cafe in our home town where Steve Miller (the singer) used to go. He was a nice man and actually talked to us!

I got Mike Farrell's autograph at Universal Studios, he signed it PEACE! MIKE FARRELL

Saw Joe Torre (Yankees) at Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon, CA while we were having brunch!

Walked past Bill Walsh on the bike path in Tahoe City, he was very nice and friendly (we said hi Bill!)

Got pic taken with the Fonz at a hospital volunteer function in LA.

My cousin Tim from NJ was an extra in Nighthawks (Slyvester Stallone film) he played a robber or mugger.

The tall guy from Huey Lewis band brought his pet turtle in to the vet clinic I used to work at.

I was a student nurse, and stood outside the hospital room where Jerry Garcia was a patient, under an assumed name. Didn't actually see Jerry tho! haha

This is a fun topic JL! I've really enjoyed reading everyone's stories!

Good Evening Everyone, I'm paying some bills, so I thought I would stop in, I only seen famous people in Concerts, I live a very boring life. LOL, unless you count the time I seen Elvis cousin and said to him, YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ELVIS??? Maybe huh??

My husband went to California in the Summer of 1983 and saw Telly Savalas at an all you can eat buffett.

My whole family, including myself is a huge fan of Tom Jones, seen him a TON of times in concert, But my Aunt and my Mother were NUTS over him, they actually found out where he went to dinner after his concerts and they went to dinner there every night he was in town, Yes, they both got a kiss, and a picture and an autograph. Every year they did this in the 70's LOL

Now I know for a fact that I am related to the Dalton Gang, not a very impressive Gang to be related to, but my sisters, brother and I are 14th cousins to them.

I received an advertisement for shirts, hats, and hoodies with our last name on them, the more you order the cheaper they are. So I'm placing an order for Christmas. I feel much better today. The Priest from our Parish called me today and I spoke with him, he is going to talk to our family after 6:00 pm mass on Saturday. But I did NOTHING today, except for now by paying the bills, I had no energy, I think my emotions got the better of me this past week. Thank you all for listening.

Have a good rest of the Evening of whats left of it its 10:00 pm here

I have been absent from the nest for a bit because my daughter passed out at her University and hit the floor on her temple from a standing position. She had to be observed over night and couldn't remember things for a few hours. She is fine now after a lot of tests that found that she had a bruise on her BRAIN! Boy, it was a long scary 2 hour drive to Bowling Green. I am back home now.

I hope everyone is having a good day. Take care,

Bebbilane said...

Thanks I appreciate that. Carol, they do not know but I think she got dehyrdrated. She was standing in line for lunch to get some pasta and started feeling bad. She realized she was really thirsty and headed over to get a drink at the drink station. She remembers walking over there and then remembers waking up in her professor's truck. She doesn't remember going to the health services or texting me and saying, "I don't know what happened to me". I got that text at 2:19 my time, and she doesn't remember sending it to me. She talked to me on the phone too and she kept asking who was coming. I told her that her Mom and Dad were about 5 times. It was one of the scariest things I have ever had to go through in my life.
She was really confused. No one knew who she was because she went over to get lunch by herself, her professor was getting his lunch and when he realized who it was he came over. He offered to take her to the health services (and left his lunch), he took her to the Emergency room (and missed teaching a class) and stayed with her until she had come to again and we had arrived. There are truly angels in this world. That was the nicest thing anyone has done for me in a long time. And all he said was, "it is part of my job".

Bebbilane said...

Also, earlier in the day she texted me to say that Dairy and fiber don't mix and her "butt was on fire"...so I know she had diarrhea right before it happened. She really didn't like that I relayed that to every health professional that came in to see her either..lol.

Bebbilane said...

She especially couldn't believe it when her boyfriend said, "Well, we know you had diarrhea today". He drove all the way to see her in his work clothes, he slept beside her all night. She was in a lot of pain. I slept in a cot there beside her too. I was so scared.

Donna Jean said...

SACBARB~ I want to know our Lassie connection!

And, I just checked my Yahoo News page, and my MSNBC News page, and found out that WaMu just FAILED!!! OMG, how many more banks are going to go under???

I have a small checking account (reserve money only) through WaMu, so I am not too worried about that.

BUT, I do have acct's through another very well known West Coast and Mid-West Bank, (you know the Conestoga Wagon and Horses Bank), and I just got off the phone with a customer rep, who of course had a script about how safe and how long they have been in business etc.

I don't have a dime to my name in the Stock Market. But, I do have a small Rainy Day Acct, and a Checking Acct. And to be truthful, I am very SCARED!!!

Anyone else care to discuss this very important and scary issue???

I need to go back to MSNBC and see what was discussed between McCain, Obama and Bush and others today. I just know that WE the Middle Income American Citizens are going to be SCREWED, while the Big Guns in the Industry get off.

More and More I am feeling we HAVE to change the current Republican Administration, and NOT endure another 4 years of Republicanism.

So sorry to get into a Political arena. I am just very worried.

We have a Republican "Governator" who just recently approved a Line Item Budget (way past the July 08 deadline) and cut so many services to the Elderly and the Disabled, that I want to personally go up to him and slap him, and take away all of his money and see him live on minimum wage or In Home Support Services, that the Elderly and Disabled live on.

I just know that we all will end up in a Depression, no matter who gets elected, but what is important, is that the Elected Administration be able to pull us OUT of this Depression.

I listened to Former President Bill Clinton earlier this week on TV, and he seems to be the only one who has a solution, and HE isn't even eligible to run for President!

OK, WAY TOO MUCH Political comments from little old me.

Peace and Love, and hopefully a Secure Bank Account for All,
Donna Jean

Outatune and East Bay: You go, girls! Is there anybody you and YH DON'T have a connection with? LOL!

Zona: Well, Robert Conrad wasn't exactly hard on the eyes either! :)

Also: If only your aunt had agreed to go to JFK's party, Joe and Marilyn might have stayed together! Opportunity lost!

DJ: That would be Deforest Kelley. And, in response to your most recent post, I'm frightened too. I've been a good little preparer for retirement, putting 10% of my income into IRAs and the like ever since the early 90's. However, it's all in either individual stocks, stock-based indexes, or mutual funds. Perhaps it's time I diversify and put at least some of the money into less volatile venues!

And, J/L and SacBarb, concerning connections to Charlie Manson... I have a similar connection to him as J/L! An old friend of Jim's, who's been living in our Palm Springs condo this summer, is named Pieter Van Houten. Yep, he's a cousin of Leslie's!

Also: You wrote: "Years ago, I had lunch with astronaut Wally Shirra. I'm too lazy to try and figure out where else that link might lead me".

That's a no-brainer, honey! To the moon, Alice! To the moon! LOL!

Tomorrow night we will be attending my Grandson's Homecoming football game. He is the starting quarterback & on the Queen's court. He graduates this coming year. It is supposed to be almost in the 80s tomorrow here in Michigan! Not exactly football weather, but nice for this Grandma lol!

sacBarb said...

DonnaJean, see my post at 2:32 for the Lassie connection. Also, our budget deadline is July 1 not July 8. The fiscal year ends on June 30 and if we don't have a budget on July 1st, agencies that depend on state money to provide services don't get paid and the snowball rolls. I, too, would love to see if the Governator could live on minimum wage.

Bon'O said...

Gosh, you guys. I bet we are ALL within 6-degrees from each other if we carried this far enough:

EBJ~~Steve Miller also lived on Mercer Island for quite a while, just around the bend of West Mercer Way from the Linda Evans film location house I mentioned earlier today. And now that I live in hippie-town USA, I'm always only 2-degrees from someone who used to hang out with Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and Ken Kesey.

DJ~~You have more mail. I found her! and, no worries about WaMu. That purchase should be transparent to you when they open tomorrow with a different name. And as long as you have under $100k in any one FDIC bank, you'll be fine there. The market exposure is a whole 'nother matter. We're ALL screwed there.

Hi nite-owl nest arrivals!

**split post**political warning, so you can read or skip :o)

Bon'O said...

I'll limit my political commentary to referring anyone who cares to the Bulletin I posted on the 22nd about how McCain, in his 2002 autobiography says:

"I make them (decisions) as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can.
Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."

To which, I ~~along with the N Y Times~~can only say..... Living with the consequences of his own mistakes is fine, but can THE COUNTRY afford to live with the consequences of what even John McCain describes as the mistakes that OFTEN result from his hasty decision-making? And I guess we've seen it in action the past 24 hours!

Then I did also make the mistake of watching all three segments of the Palin-Couric interview on YouTube. OY!! The 3rd, when she talks of her 'International Diplomacy Experience' is incomprehensible.

I sure hope those that had their paychecks cut, (I know of several agencies, dealing mostly with Health Care of the Elderly and the Disabled) get re-imbursed quickly. Thank Goodness my daughter didn't get her paycheck docked. I stil wonder why though, some did and some didn't. Doesn't make sense to me.

Donna Jean said...

OK, I am going against what I said earlier about not posting my own Political Views.

I just went to CBSNews.com and looked up the original footage of the Palin/Couric Interview.

You do get a better perspective there than YouTube.

I could NOT believe (well, yes I could) how the interview went. Ms Couric was so "on the Ball" with her questions, that Ms Palin seemed overwhelmed, that she just glossed over Ms Couric's questions or couldn't even answer them and just constantly said UM or Man, or other euphanisms that certainly didn't make her very knowledgeable on Foreign Policy, or National Economic Policy, in my view.

She even tried to put the whole Foreclosure blame on the poor unsuspecting mortgagees, who were duped into buying homes that they were not qualified for, but were told "Yes, you can". And, I can for one say that this did happen, as I worked for a Real Estate and Mortgage Firm, right before the whole fiasco, and saw people who should never have been approved, given HUGE loans, that I knew for a fact they could not afford. That was fraud. There was nothing I could say or do, or lose my job. Which in the end, I did, anyway.

In my heart of hearts, I just can not see how anyone would think that this woman, who came from obscurity, could potentially become the Leader of the Free World, if elected as VP and McCain should not be able to fulfill his Presidency.

Seriously, people, look into her background, don't be mislead by her speech writers, find out WHY they don't want her interviewd by the mass of reporters, and only allow her to have a personal one on one where she can be coached on answers.

I know many of my beloved Owls do not agree with me.

I would love to hear your reasons why both McCain and Palin should be elected.

As they said a few years back, "Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago"? or better yet, "Is the United States better off than it was 8 years ago"?

I am one woman, with my own humble opinion on this blog, but I know there are millions more like me out there.

I am not the most educated person by far on the blog, I admit readily, but I do read and watch the news daily, and try to understand fairly everything that is happening nationally and internationally.

I am all for open and honest discussions of all issues. And I look forward to the Presidential Debate tomorrow night, if it does happen.

Till tomorrow, I wish all a peaceful rest, Donna Jean

It's been a long day for me - i have just skimmed over the comments...

Bebbi - sorry to hear about your daughter - hope that she is going to be okay!!!

i'm watching Conan - and Julianna Moore is on - which reminded me of two "six degrees"..

my niece's friend was/is ( have no idea if she still is) Julianne's nanny..... my niece has been to her house..

then - that reminded me that my nephew's wife used to be a nanny and one of her best friends was the nanny for Caroline Kennedy!! (so there is my connection to the kennedy's)... she said it was really weird to walk down the hallway looking at all these family pictures - and having a young child say "and this is my grandfather"........ when it was JFK!!!!!!!

IBB - I had forgotten about the unibomber thing - I remember how freaked out we were when we heard that they used to bake him cookies!!!

and - lastly, cuz I MUST go to bed.

I was in (very briefly if you blink you miss me) "Ice Castles" with Robbie Bensen and Lynn Holly johnson. it was filmed at the Broadmoor World Arena..

Okay - I'm waving howdy TO EVERYONE!!! and sweet dreams!!!

i can assure you that I will NOT be FIRST in the a.m. - mr. mek is home now and I will NOT have to feed the animals at 4a.m.!!!

I hope everyone has an excellent Friday!!!
