Care Takers

 by Lynnd

I spent this morning unpacking my suitcase from the trip to Chicago. As I pulled out the clothes to sort into piles and unpacked the toiletries and other items, I also unpacked the gifts that made it home with me. There was the wonderful glass with the Mint Julep recipe that Bebbi brought us and then out came the Mingo pen from the real Mary. The newspaper wrapped owl from Dianne, the owl book marker from J/L and I kept thinking about all of the wonderful people I met on this trip. The leap of faith to fly half way across the country wondering what I was getting into.

Turns out I had unfounded worries. I met a group of fantastic people who welcomed me warmly with big hugs, kisses and smiles. As the first day turned into two and then three and everyone arrived I was struck by how caring these people were. Dianne who would scan the room and make sure she acknowledged everyone there, Mary with her Mingos and chocolate chip cookies she baked and carried on the plane. Jodi dragged Spotted Cow beer and homemade potato salad for all of us to enjoy and made it to Chicago with it still chilled even with all of her car misadventures.

Just/Lin and Sacbarb taking care of me by being my back up memory and excusing my travel burps and butt. Sacbarb with her never ending suitcase full of things we might need. She packs everything and guess what it all came in handy. Whabby taking his time with all of these excited crazy women, showing up and surprising us all and giving us his gentle welcoming smile.

Goldie and Mr. Goldie playing host and host-est with the most-est in their room with no hesitation. Mr. Goldie our charming bartender and food server always checking to see if we were allright or needed a refill. He also warned us to travel together and take care of each other. Goldie laughing and teasing, with her the conversation never flagged. Bebbi jumping in to organize our food orders keeping us on track and double checking that she had the list right. I say thank goodness for that because I am the worst at this task ever and usually end up with something missing.

Carol took the care in finding a Hotel that we could all meet setting up the reservations for dinner and when she arrived worried that we were happy with it all. Her smile that made you feel wrapped in a hug and above all worried about our comfort. Mo showed up bearing food too! Divine cheese and summer sausage with her laugh and quick wit so sensitive to others.

Tina, our quiet one. Not sure really what is running through your mind most of the time, but you were there in a pinch picking up many at the airport shuttling them to the hotel, including me. Being there when I called in a semi panic from Ohare when my flight was delayed you went into care mode and called Janice and tried to find a way to avoid my missing my connection in Minneapolis.  It didn't work, but it was comforting that you were on the other end of the line trying to make things easier.

Even when I talked to Zona and Shirley on the phone they were excited and wanted to know about everyone but I kept hearing are you having fun? Are you comfortable? Are you enjoying yourself?

Care takers everyone of you. Always looking out for the other and taking the time to worry about someones feelings and comfort. To me this is what keeps floating in my mind and made this trip so memorable. How lucky am I that I met you?

Good Lord Tina!!! I swear it is always sumthin'!!
You are either losing something or leaving the house with curlers in your hair and God knows what on your face....!!

Just one day without a BP spike would be too much to ask I suppose.....ga!

Lynn D...area 51....lmao at your husband trying to kill it with a book...!!

I think this was the perfect time for everyone to meet up in Chicago....

Of all the people who have come and gone from here and the other blog....everyone at this point are just as Lynn D wrote.....and it really makes me regret that I wasn't there to meet everyone that made the trip.....

Good morning to TALL TINA, DEE DEE and LYNN.

LYNN..good luck today. I know it will go beautifully. ANd what a great blog. I'm so glad you took that leap of faith. And you are an incredible care giver yourself.

The winds have died down some, but still very strong. We are under wind advisories until tonight. It will be a good day to hunker down under the blankies!

My co-worker Nicole wasn't as lucky. She just bought and moved into her first home and this morning a huge tree was blown down on her garage. Took down the power lines and they are scrambled all over her yard in the tree limbs. The pole is down and it ripped the electrical off her house. She was supposed to work today and she can't leave her house. No power, branches all over. She has to wait for someone to cut down the trees, remove the power lines and make sure her house is safe. I feel so bad for the kid. Luckily she is ok and her parents are driving in to help her out.

I hate the wind

TINA...wash your face for crimini's sake!!

DEE DEE...there will be a reservation for you for the next M&G

Thanks Maureen and Lynn D.....

I have been having a rough time over my friend that has ovarian cancer...it just keeps me frantic most of the time lately...and depressed...

But thats life....right? I have never had to "let go" (for her sake) like this and its almost unbearable....it is unbearable...

SO!! I am going to Houston shopping today.....try and take my mind off my worries.....I have seldom encountered anything that Neiman Marcus couldn't make better....but this is one of those times I am afraid.....

BETTY WHITE TONIGHT!!!! I can't wait!!

LynnD,you did a great job on your blog. The trip all came back in a flash.I look back and remember the day we took over the breakfast room...all frickin day! I kept waiting for someone to tell us to leave lol! We all talked for hrs. In these days of cell phones, computers, 1 million tv stations to watch ,busy lives, etc It was fun to just sit around and talk. How fun and refreshing!

Missy tootalltinytina, you may be quiet, BUT!!!!

DeeDee, I truly hope you have a fun day shopping. bty, I just got me some "Miss Dior" "Cherie" for Mother's day. I give myself the best-est gifts lol!

Mo,I will prolly kill off the last of my cheese today. I have been "kinda hiding" it in the frig :)

I am sorry, I forgot who got me the tiny flash light. It has come in so handy! I have the worst time finding the "output" for my earphones to my office tv. I just grabbed my trusty tiny flash light and "woomp, der it is"!

Have a great day everyone!

LYNN - Great blog!! You most certainly were my caretaker that first night. Thanks for sharing your space with this owl!!

TINA - Congrats on being prettiest!! Who you mudding up for?!!? Oh, and MR. & MRS. GOLDIE say HI back!!

DEE DEE - Really wish you could've been there!! I've never been to Neiman Marcus, but I'm sure you'll pick something out that I'll love!!!

MOHO - You were exactly like I imagined you'd be. Kind....but with a dry, wicked sense of humor!! You throw the best zingers!!

MARY - You are one spitfire!! But I gotta tell ya.....when I went up to our room to get the potato salad, you were on the phone and facing the window. You had NO idea that I had even entered, let alone fetch the salad. HUH?!!?

LynnD.Great blog! You and SacBarb were great roommates and you, too, Jodi, for that first night that you stayed with us. I couldn't have asked for nicer people to share a room with and, boy, did we have some laughs! So fun!

Mary. SacBarb is the one that gave us the flashlights. I've already used mine, too.

DeeDee. I wish you could have been there. And thanks for reminding me about Betty.

Tina. You're not the tallest but you are the prettiest. You are also quieter than I thought you would be.

Maureen. Feel so bad for Nicole! Scary stuff! Btw, have you started writing that proposal yet?

Just_Lin said...

Jodi. Sweet dreams, Pretty Lady.

A little while ago, a bird flew out of a tree and hit my arm. I wondder if it was Birdee. There was no pooping involved.

Lynn D, great summary! Was it already a week ago? Time flies when you're an owl!

Or even if you're not!

Happy Saturday Owls.

Tina, You are the tallest until Dianne shows up, but you are the umm prettiest of all.

Dee, Hope your shopping trip is successful.

Lynn, Great blog, great memories.

Mo, I'm glad you didn't get blown away. Sorry about your co-worker's troubles.

Mary, That would be ME that gave you the flashlight. I'm glad it is useful. I keep mine hooked on my purse to use in dimly lighted restaurants to read the menu.

Zona, I hope your back is feeling better. Keep using that peppermint oil.

Waving a wing to all the Owls. I hope you all have a good day and in case I don't get back, I hope all the Mom's have a good Mother's Day and for those who aren't Moms, have a good Sunday.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

LYNN: I really liked reading your impressions of everyone and found myself smiling as you described this wonderful weekend to remember. It's heartwarming to read that everyone was comfortable with each other right off the bat..I would have been truly surprised to hear anything else. Great blog LYNN..thank you! :)

TINA: Congrats on..well..dirtiest but with a beautiful kind of glow.. ;)

DEEDEE: BP spikes are scary..please take care..

MO: Glad you're ok..sorry to hear about Nicole. I love thunderstorms..but I hate the winds..they really scare me. I hope today is a calmer day.

MARY: LOL!! A mingo pen!? Cool! :D

JODI: I hope you're feeling better today..I'll bet spending the day with GOLDIE and her family was the perfect medicine! :)

BEAR: LOL..yes it does! ;)

J/LIN: I can just imagine the laughter..omg.. :D

SACBARB: I will..thanks.. :)

I am home and so tired! It went great today. We just did what we do, fed people and let the rest take care of itself. The best part was we had 3 soldiers from the 62nd brigade come and help us today and they are going to help us paint next weekend. One of them gave me a big hug and kiss and told me he appreciated the work I do for our community. Shocked the crap out of me. When it should be me thanking him and the other 2 for their service to our country.

Another memory day. I get to rest tomorrow and next week is a loaded schedule again. Yikes. lol

I am glad everyone carried home good memories and appreciated the blog today.

Mo stay undercover! Do you have a basement????

J/L I keep thinking about you and I just looking at each other and cracking up!

Mary it was nice just to sit around and visit and shut the rest of the world out for just a brief time. Reminds me of the days when people would visit at their kitchen tables.

Jodi wish I had been with you at your second family's today! I bet you had a great time. How could you not?

Barb did you get a booster seat for the car yet?

I am trying to figure out what to do with all of the Bronco stuff and Wisconsin sports memorabilia that we carried home. Mr. Lynn D just keeps looking at it and shaking his head.

Maureen said...

LYNN...I'm glad it all went so well today. And the soldier was right.

JODI...how fun to spend the afternoon with the GOLDIEs!

ZONA...tell MR.Z to please be careful! And don't try to do anything strenuous. take care of your back.

JUST LIN...No, I haven't yet. Still trying to recover from the last weekend!! The President of the agency did come to my desk yesterday (he never comes into our part of the building!!) to personally thank me for all I do and the great results we have shown.

SACBARB...the flashlight is very handy! And I'm happy you have it with you for those romantic dark restaurants!

MARY...that was great fun sitting around the lobby as we did all day! I would have wanted nothing more.

I have had a headache and cramps all day. I don't know if it is the change in pressure from the weather or just exhaustion! I slept and slept. I hope I can stay awake to watch Betty White tonight.

I feel like shit today. I felt like shit yesterday. I will probably feel like shit tomorrow. I have a sore throat that I think is trying to turn into a cold but it hasn't made up it's mind yet.

Going to Mary's (not our Mary Mary or SacMary) funeral on Monday...so not looking forward to that. It's been making me think too much about mum's funeral and when that will be. I don't like it. Anyway I am going to set my VCR for SNL and I think I'll take some drugs and go to bed.

Good night Owls!

Happy Mother's Day!

LYNN: I loved your blog today. You are right on the spot about everyone and I loved how you worded it. You are another great blog writer! Glad your day went so well today too. I am glad to know you and call you my friend.

We went to see the JLO movie tonight and it was hysterical. I laughed and laughed all through most of the movie. It is such a girls movie!!!

Just wanted to tell the other blog writers this week how much I have enjoyed all the blogs and haven't been on the computer much to comment BONACHICHI...YOU are one brave person as I would be scared to death to do the things you do and chances you take.

There is one bad thing about the Meet and Greet...I for sure caught all of your emotional state. My husband is looking at me with questions when I get weepy. I finally told he and my SIL tonight that I am going through the change of life. Now they really looked at me like I have lost it. I hope I don't catch the hot flashes too.

Well, I am off to bed and Happy Mothers Day to all of you....regardless of your status and enjoy your mothers if you still have them.

Night....
