Dirt, Trees and Desert Stuff

by Bonachichi

I've just returned from spending a couple days camping with my oldest and dearest friend. After witnessing my recent meltdown in Copenhagen, you all know that I like to know where I am as well as "when" I am. Before going further, I would like to point out that my Copenhagen meltdown occurred whilst using all that modern technology had to offer, air taxis as well as some twisted connection to the Dutch Army, which I didn't even know was an actual thing. So why would I go to the middle of a desert, the location of which is still a mystery to me, with no internet, no phones and no daily showers, on purpose? I don't know. But I'm glad I did.

I knew I was in good hands. Everyone was an expert camper and they had lots of nifty toys to eat up the desert terrain, sandblast your teeth, and permanently tattoo desert dust in your arsecrack in one fell swoop. My girlfriend is married to a man who can do anything. Her kids, all girls age 13, 18 and 20 make me look like the village idiot of the off-road world. I had to be told that whilst sitting around the bonfire one night, my shoes were afire. I thought my feet were just toasty warm. No clue whatsoever that I was on fire.

My girlfriend's youngest daughter is a beautiful young woman named Corey. Corey isn't just beautiful. There is nothing that girl can't do better than any boy. I felt perfectly safe going for an off-road ride with her in her Uncle Clancy's contraption. It has a name, I just don't know what it is. This 13 year-old wonder had to show me how to strap myself into the harness. There was a roll-cage, which is always handy to have, an "oh-shit" bar as well as an "oh-shit" strap. Oh shit, what would I need those for?

Corey it turns out, is quite skilled in Gymkhana, which you Yanks call Drifting. If you've never done it before, it's unsettling because it feels as if you're hydro-planing. A good Gymkhana driver can handle the temporary loss of control and set the vehicle back on track. Corey managed to convince me within the first minute of our jaunt that she could handle Drifting.

So there we were, racing cross the desert, laughing and having a blast. What are those branches doing right in front of the windshield? "Oh God! Don't tell Clancy I ran over a tree!" "Ran", "over" and "tree" are three words I never thought I'd hear in the same sentence. Ever. I was about to hear them two more times, during which we somehow managed to acquire a hood ornament that strongly resembled a big stick.

Then, Something happened. I'm not sure what, because I was busy "Oh-Shitting" myself. I heard Corey ask me if I was okay. Looking towards the sound of her voice, I looked to my left and "up". There she was, hanging sideways from her straps, just above me. I was laying comfortably on my right side, inside the car. Don't see that every day now, do you? We unstrapped ourselves and climbed out.

We tried rolling the car back over, but it was too heavy for the two of us. Then we saw an RV coming down the dirt path. I ran out to the middle of the path and did a fairy dance, just in case the driver of the RV didn't think we were strange enough, in the middle of the desert with a car resting on its' side. He helped us roll the car back over; We had the insane thought that, "Maybe Clancy won't notice", so we came up with a half-baked alibi that didn't involve lying, but also didn't involve telling Clancy, "Sorry, Mate. We rolled your car."

Corey removed the recently-installed hood ornament, and we drove back to the campsite. The first thing Clancy did was ask, "What'd you do, roll the car?" Okay, so if you roll a car, someone's probably going to notice. I'm sure Corey and I will be spending some time as Clancy's personal slaves to make his toy pretty again, but it will be worth it. That was hands down, the most fun I had over the entire weekend.

We've not heard the last of Corey, I'm sure. She will be the next Jolene Van Vugt. A beautiful daredevil, able to do things most boys just can't handle. I fell in love with Corey that afternoon. That 13 year-old woman handled herself better than most men I know with the possible exception of maybe Clancy and her dad. One thing's for sure; The word "failure" just doesn't exist for her.

Good morning Tina, Bebbi and all the other early morning Hooters!

Tina, I went to Widowmaker about 2 years (?) ago and we got a motor bike to the top, but rolled two cars in the process. I am not crazy AND stupid (pick either one), so I'm not trying that monster.

Have a great day everyone!

Morning Glories!

Pretty,pretty,pretty? Hi Tina!

Morning Bebbi!

Well that sounds like quite the adventure! I think it is wonderful that Corey is being taught that she can do anything. Every girl/woman should be taught this from birth. imho

Bon as long as you did not actually oh shit yourself I would say it was all good. Very fun blog this morning!

Busy day ahead. Everyone have a fantabulous day!

I need to figure out what the heck to take to a potluck for the volunteers tonight. I just have no idea yet.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Lynn D how about a big pot of baked beans and several rolls of toilet paper?

Tina~in_ut said...

Here's a suggestion Lynndie~ Take your hubby....and share him!~

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Corey sounds like a very good person to have around in a high stress situation. I'm curious, how many times did you say "oh shit" during your little ride?

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

Morning Bebbi!

Congrats on 1st Tina!

Bonachichi - loved the blog! I was right there with you...! Wow, what a wonderful experience. I would have loved it..!! Too fun! :)

DeeDee: Goodness..just read your blog....very funny!! :) You kill me woman! lol lol lol! :) Sorry for the delay..still trying to catch up.

bonachichi said...

Shirley, I never actually said, "Oh Shit", but I was thinking it. You can't act like a girl out there. They'll eat you alive.

Good morning! I overslept...I do love being in bed.....

Tina! Looks like someone has been to the beauty parlor!! "uptown looks good ...now lets see "downtown"....drop those drawers and let mama have a look-see!!

Bonachichi.....what would one wear for such an adventure? I notice that you say ur shoes were incinerated. And I hope that none of our desert friends (4 legged variety or belly crawlers) were harmed in the execution of this
"adventure.."

I really could have used photos or video to better understand what has happened in the desert....because you know...I am a very visual person....

Just in the short time that I have been giving you an audience...I believe you have been run over...trampled...exhorted...bitch slapped...butt fucked and ran out of town.....

And you know...now that I see it in print it occurs to me that its no wonder we connect well!!

The most excitement that I have had in the last few years has been a couple of tandem jumps from airplanes....skydiving is great fun.....but the outfits are atrocious...it really messes up your hair and is a lot of trouble.

But Tina has said she is dying to take me Muff Diving and she said I would love it....

and you know I am game for anything that doesn't involve messing up my nails..my make-up or busting my starch....

Tina you clocked in @ 9:01 & 9:02. Did yah get a late start? Must have been all that beauty takes a lot of work eh? :)

Bonachi,I loved your adventure! You described it well. I could almost feel the sand on my face, & hair lol! One question. You kept saying "car", was that just the term you used for the contraption you were in or was it a for real "car"? Is your avatar "the contraption"?

Waving at Bebbi,LynnD,& Shirley~~~

Good Morning!

BONACHI: I loved your blog today! I went over to youtube to see exactly what 'Gymkhana' looks like..and I think 'oh shit!' would have been my reaction too! I never knew that was an actual sport! Scary..but kind of cool too.

My cousins all have Rhinos and Razors..those are some kind of off-road vehicles that they love to take out into the desert or up into the mountains to drive. They love those things.

When one of my cousins was a teenager he went out on his own with his ATV..not a smart move. He rolled it..broke his leg..and had to crawl to the road and wait for someone to drive by. This was way before everyone had a cellphone. Luckily he went to a popular location for riding these things and someone found him pretty quickly.

I have friends that want us to go out to the Dunes with them and ride ATVs..cousins that want us to 'come take a ride' with them in the mountains..if we ever do tag along..I'll let you know how many times we say "oh shit!" I have a feeling it'll be lots.. :D

Waving HI to TINA, BEBBI, LYNND, SHIRLEY, DEEDEE and MARY!

It's going to be 112 here today and tomorrow..then a cool down to 110 for the rest of the week. Oh joy! I like the summer because we can swim..but I can't wait until Fall. My neighborhood is like a ghost town now..everyone is hibernating. The only sound outside is dozens of a/c units grinding away.

I guess I should get a move on while it's only 94 degrees..lol..

Have a great day everyone..send some cool weather this way if you can! :)

Mary/MI said...

Zona, I will try to blow some of our cool air your way! It's supposed to be in the low 70s here and will get down in the 40s. I'm a blowing!!!

Mary/MI said...

Bonochi, I followed Zona and googled "Gymkhana"...It looked like me on an icy Michigan day!! no thanks! lol!!

Tina~in_ut said...

omg! It was 100 degrees here yesterday.....i got home at almost 6pm, and the dang hubby had the windows open to let in the "cool" air! Idiot....i turned on the air!!! omg!!!! I could use a pool~

Zona said...

MARY: Please blow harder! The palm trees are swaying..but now it's 102!

TINA: C'mon over..you can swim in my pool..I'll even put shock in it for you first.. :D

I've got the Rolling Stones blasting and I'm doing laundry and be-boppin' while the a/c runs and runs..not looking forward to that bill..chaaa-chinnng!

DEEDEE: We lost power for an hour right after I wrote that last comment! Please don't have anymore thoughts like that!

I love my air conditioner..it's the best air conditioner in the world..it's worth it's weight in gold and I don't care how much it costs to run! (I sure hope it heard me) :D

Laundry is kinda done..time to swim! Kerrrsplaaash!! :)

Happy Tuesday Owls.

Bon, that sounds like quite an adventure...not one that I would enjoy as I am a big chicken, however it was very interesting reading. I'm glad it was fun for you.

DeeDee~ although i'm flattered, that kind of diving would be incest! You will have to look elsewhere~ besides, I'm happily married~ You remember that don't you? .....well...the married part anyway~ What are you going on now?....ur 6th or 7th husband?

DeeDee said...

FYI I have been married 3 times....divorced twice and widowed the last time...sniff sniff....

Now look what you've done...you have made me cry....it always brings tears to my eye when I think of how glad I am that he didn't die a painful death....a singed and smoking death...but not too painful......

Matter of fact...I think I'll pull up those floor boards and tell him...

I am referred to by many of the older people in this town as the Widow Crump.....DO YOU KNOW HOW EMBARRASSING THAT IS!!??

Mary/MI said...

DeeDee, your version is just a wee bit funkier than the original! I'm not too fond of cock-a-roaches anyway lol!!

Zona, you cracked me up, talking nice nice to your AC. I didn't have much luck talking nice nice to my slot machine lol!!

Hi---MrD set up computer on bed. I'm not too great on this laptop. Today has been a good day, I got to the bathroom all by myself twice, received approval from dr to go to mtns this weekend if I use wheelchair and completely stay off my feet and then received candy and flowers---which I so appreciate.

Dianne/Denver said...

I am doing this one handed so over-look mistakes. I am still on lots of pain meds and will stay on them but they are working pretty darn good. Thanks for all the good wishes. I am looking forward to the 8th when I go back to dr.

CHI CHI...how was this different from the adventure you had in Mexico...except for rolling the contraption!!! Glad you didn't break anything!

LYNN...why didn't you have SHIRLEY make something for you to take to the pot luck! I hope you didn't take it literally and make something with pot in it!

GOLDIE...when you're back from vacation and you shoulder is all healed, a tray of your special brownies would be welcomed!!

DEE DEE...you have some powerful zorch...can shake up the bay area in one slam...all the way from Texas!!

ZONA...I often talk to inanimate objects! Glad to know I am not alone!

MARY...same with you and your slot...I mean slot machines!

We got some potentially good news today. Joanne had her scope of the pancreas and the doc doesn't seem to think there is any cancer there. He did send a lot of samples to pathology and we won't know for sure till the testing comes back, but he was very optimistic. Joanne agreed to take the radiation for the colon cancer and she gets marked on Tuesday.

If the pathology is good, I am going to take a cake to her on the weekend and celebrate her pancreas!

CAROL...I hope things go well tomorrow for CiCi. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. give him a gentle {{hug}} from me.

Yesterday we got an email at work summoning us to a mandatory meeting tomorrow morning to hear about the state of the system.

If you all can say a prayer and Zona light a candle, around 9:30 am my time that I will still have a job.

I barely slept last night from worrying about it. I hope I can sleep tonight. I am not trying to look for trouble, but I can't stop being worried.

I'm so sorry to have missed most of today, everyone... I'm going to treat myself to some relaxing time and read the comments.

OMG, DeeDee! Yes, I do get around. Never a dull moment for me. Today I went to replace a PC fan and wound up posing for an advert in a men's magazine. Fully clothed, of course. They wanted someone who "looked smart", so I wore my glasses. As I was not prepared to participate in a photo-shoot(bad hair day), I just figured, "what the hell".

bonachichi said...

Mary/MI & Zona, the "car" (I call them Utes) that Corey rolled was indeed, a Razor. Later that day, I rolled a Baja Bug. I am just too damn old to be climbing out of vehicles this way.

bonachichi said...

Di, so glad you're getting up & around. We were going to come poke you with a stick to make sure you're alive. Can't think of a good place to put that stick now.... DeeDee! (HA!) The Widow Crump is not a name I think of when I think of you. More of a genteel lady, not afraid to raise some hell when the mood strikes!

Great blog today, Bonach!

Sorry I haven't been around more. It's been a tough couple of day. A relationship came to an end yesterday and I had to put my cat down today.

Dianne I'm so happy for you that you will get to go to the mtns. I know you were worried about being house bound. I'm sure glad those meds are working for you, too.
