Thank You

by Dianne

Great video of a Spontaneous Victory Parade in Honolulu in 1945. Take a look at this video-absolutely fabulous! Notice the cars and jeeps, youth. The guys in khaki or gray shirts and black ties are Navy officers or chiefs. The rest are Army or Marine. How young they all were to do what they did. This guy really captured a moment in history! (You can listen to Jimmy Durante singing "I'll be Seeing You" in the background, too) This is a super video of a time past - we need to remember and be THANKFUL. Check out the color fidelity. It's not bad for 1945. Nothing will ever compare with Kodachrome film.

It was nice to see so many comments again on yesterday's blog. I love reading what everyone is doing.

I'm awake as you can see and there was no alarm waking me. Dang it. My baby blues just opened all on their own at 7AM!!!!!!!

Oh we'll, good thing I'm awake. I have to be at work by 10:30.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good Morning Dianne - Congrats on being first.

I loved the video. I guess I am the only one on the blog who remembers that day. I was little and didn't really understand what it was all about but I remember the day clearly. My mom's first reaction was one of tears and I really didn't understand that. She went to their bedroom and stayed there quite a while. I found out later she wrote all about it in her diary. Then people, very happy people started coming into our store. It became a little party. The only thing the war meant to me at the time was that we were rationed on sugar and other items. Dad kept a box of chocolate bars under the counter and sold them only to his favourite customers.
In the evening Dad drove us into Victoria, about an hour's drive, and the city was so full of cars and people and it was very noisy. Everyone was honking their horns and waving flags out their windows. In front of the Empress Hotel was parked a gold car. It looked like the ones in the video but was very shiny. My dad was so taken by that car. He said he didn't want a new car until he could get one like that. We had many vehicles through the years but he never got his gold one.

Thanks for the memories Dianne.

I must get ready for water therapy. Yuck. See you all later.

Have a terrific Thursday.

LynnD I'm back home and back to reality, too. At least it isn't as hot here.

Tinka I loved your story. thank you for sharing. I went to the coffee shop today and Theresa was there but she was quiet. I suspect it's because it was pretty busy and the owner was there, too. LOL

WEll, I'm still only partially unpacked. I just returned from exercising at Curves. I can really tell when I've been away for a week. I also got my hair cut and dyed, uh, I mean "high-lighted". Now I only feel 64 instead of 65. LOL

Is anybody cooking dinner tonight because I don't feel like it?

Hi Everyone:

JL: work was good. It's really good to occupy my mind during the day right now. Glad you are home. You don't have to cook dinner---you can have cheese and crackers. My daughters friend took us to Red Lobster for Louis's birthday. It was pretty good. I had shrimp.

Hi Mary, I like Chinese food too. That's my problem--I like all kinds of food. We brought home enough food tonight to have dinner for tomorrow night.

JL 2: I think a lot of us get our hair highlighted nowadays. js

Mary I went out for Chinese. Great minds think alike, right?

Dianne Highlighting seems to be fashionable with our age group. LOL Glad you enjoyed your dinner. I always enjoy Red Lobster. You didn't have any of those biscuits, did you?

I had my hair "highlighted" yesterday. I also got it chopped off again. There is always "cutters regret" the next day lol! Oh well, it will grow back!
