LIFE IN SIX WORDS

Tuesday, February 12...I have been driving for days now. Driving to see family. Driving to see amazing students. When I travel I usually prefer to listen to talk radio rather than music. The miles go by quickly when listening to stories, discussions, interviews. In Canada we have something called the CBC, public radio whose US equivalent would be NPR. It is generally thought provoking, somewhat middle of the road politically and whose topics range from the ridiculous to the sublime. This afternoon while driving “down island”, I listened to Valentine’s love poems being created from six words. They were funny. Now that I am home, my over forty year old brain can’t remember what they were. So I head online to see if they can be found there. I can’t find love poems in six words but I do find lives in six words. An article from a UK newspaper encourages interviewees and commenters to “describe your life in six words”.
Some of the responses were:
-Live forever. So far so good
-Kissed the boys, made them cry
-Big family, endless demands, eternal joy
-Could have. Should have. Still might.
And when I though about it for myself today in this moment, I came up with four:
-Bags are packed, ready to go!!!
-Laugh, laughing, laughed, laugh, laughing, laughed
-Loved hard, lost much, no regrets
-Waiting for ships to come in

Goldie, I once had the same thing happen with my kitchen cabinets.
They fell, the only thing that kept them from crashing down was a blender!
Yes, the blender miraculously held them til I got someone over to put them back up.
Zona, Paula seems to be doing great! She loves her new "kidney" diet food (it's made by Iams and is for kitties with renal failure).
Today is her last day of antibiotics.
She is getting sub-q fluid every other day (vet said ok to 200ml SQ every other day, rather than 100 daily. It was too hard on my husband to "torture his kitty" daily).
I swear, he is having a harder time dealing with this than Paula. She has been pretty good but huz hates holding her and hearing her cry. I don't like it either, but as I told him, better we do this at home rather than the alternative we were given, which is leaving her at the clinic for treatment.
Hearing that seemed to help, as he said there is no way he is leaving his kitty in the vet clinic.
We continue to do this til next Sat. when we have an appt. at the vet to have more blood tests.
So thank you for your concern, we really appreciate it! She is almost 16 and we want her around a few more years.
All the good wishes seem to be helping, and again, thank you to everyone!

EBJ My husband used to have a very hard time having to hold one of the old kitties when I had to give her fluids. He would have to turn his head so he wouldn't see the needle go into her skin. Isn't it funny? Experienced cop, seen lots of dead bodies, had actually helped pick up body parts, but could not watch a needle go into a kitty's skin. LOL
EBJ: I just know Paula is going to get a good report! I'm glad she is doing better.
J/LIN: The hardest thing I ever had to do was give my late pup shots of insulin. It just about did me in every day. Sometimes I would do it just right and he wouldn't flinch. But the days he whimpered or jumped, I died a little inside. It was awful. I had to keep thinking "I'm helping him live longer."

JL, my huz works in the ED (security) at the hospital and he sees lots of bad stuff, has to take the coroners into the morgue, etc.
He can handle that, but like your husband, cannot stand to see his kitty getting poked. He won't watch, either.
Then he'll be trying to hold her and tells me to HURRY UP! Like I can make it go any faster than I am.
We had our cute little doggy, Lilly, put to sleep in Nov. and he is still having a hard time with it.

Zona I had one cat who had diabetes and I had to give her insulin shots. I really hate having to poke animals with needles, not matter the reason. The good thing about the insulin injections was that the needle is very fine. Giving fluids under the skin, you use a much larger needle (we use 18 guage) so the fuilds can go through faster.

It seems the Night Owls had a busy day here in the nest!
I was out all day, as I had to take my parents to their friends house by the Jersey Shore, Mom does not drive, and Dad only drives locally! So I had to do my duty as I always do. I also had to pick up my Aunt and Uncle.
So needless to say it has been a very loooong...day...
I actually did not want to go, it was really as I had no choice, If I did not take them I would have been guilt ridden.
They had a blast, and I guess in the end, that was all that mattered!

Thanks, its just at times, It is very overwhelming, I had lots I could have done today for me. However that is very selfish to say!
I really wish I could work on the guilt factor, as for some reason
I carry it around with me always..
My mom and I had some words yesterday about this, And I felt so guilty afterwards I could have crawled in a hole. She called me on my cell to apologize and then I felt even worse. I told her no need to apologize, as I did not mind taking them. (lied a little)
By days end, I am glad I took them!

Goldie, my husband has to drive in this icky weather at three in the morning for O'Hare airport, yuck.
Night...I picked up a bunch of stuff on the Jersey Shore today...We go there a lot anyway and I wanted to see if I missed anything. I always want to go to Cape May and we never seem to have time...even though we get off the freakin ferry there when we go see my Dad. I also had a talk with my Mom that left me more frustrated than before we talked....arrg!
Carol, I have the guilt factor with me all the time. I can not help myself!
I am glad you feel good about taking them though.
iteach- icky- Hope he safe, and hopefully the roads are clear. We are still getting snow right now, but the plows have been going thru.
scirish- go ahead and sream, you will feel better. AGGGGGGGGGGGGHH- see? I feel better and I'm not even frustrated.

I think it goes back to Tinks post, but we are on the other end. It is really hard to adjust to the parent needing you to do stuff. I do the grocery shopping for my Mom. Sometimes it pisses me off, I think it's b/c it scares me that she needs me. On the other hand, I'm really glad I don't have to fight her about her driving when I don't think she should. What I don't understand, is why I am not close to her anymore, in fact sometimes I don't like her. We used to be best friends. I was so glad to read that others are having the same issues. It helps to know that I'm not alone .

Hey everyone...thanks for being such good sports! When I sent Carol, our Wise Owl Chairman of the Blog, my blog idea I told her it was totally up to her if she wanted to post it. I was worried that maybe it was a bit goofy. She wrote back that she felt that the answers or responses would be hilarious and touching...she is indeed wise and she was very right. Your six word poems have come from the funny bone (with all this talk of viagra maybe that's a poor choice of words!) and from the heart! hey iteach...yup, I did go to the library yesterday with three of the names from Tina's smut and S.M.U.T. list and all of the books from the authors I had chosen were out! Must be some good smut!!!!

I tried to go to bed over an hour ago - but I can't sleep.. I have something nagging at my brain..
Earlier tonight - i asked a simple question and ended up in a very immature battle of words - I wanted to say to my fellow nesters that I am VERY SORRY to have used our nest in that manner!! This is not the place to do that and I know that..... this should be a happy place and I am upset with myself that I became someone that I am NOT.....
so - again - I am very sorry...
I won't be around much this week - as my schedule is VERY full and I wanted to make sure we are all okay!!

My thoughts are with both of you, and with all the rest of our Baby Boomer Owls with parent worries . Anytime you need to vent, you've got my MySpace addy. Having been there, I understand, I empathize......I'm even strangely jealous that I no longer get/have to do those things.
'Long Post to Follow' Warning in conjunction with the above comments and as a belated response to Tinka's beautiful blog..................
I hadn't posted after Tinka's beautiful blog the other day, as she and I have had many MySpace 'conversations' about caring for parents. Didn't need to 'dump' my own experiences seeing both parents through cancer/hospice in their final years, preceded by spending lots of time with them before, when there were places I'd rather have been (like EVERY Christmas and summer holiday) while they were active and independent until near the end. Probably the only noble thing I've done in life is several difficult months of home-hospice care for my dad, as we were never best of friends. Mom, on the other hand, was my independent and adorable angel until her final few weeks which were a whirlwind of surgery and respite care. Nine years later, I still wish we could take our hour-long drives to the beach for lunch and beachcombing in every season.
Strangely, the closest my mom & I ever came to arguing is when she would say "I hate that you have to take me (grocery shopping/doctors, etc). I've had a really good life and want you to do the same and not have to wait on me"........this from the lady who baked every day, did fresh wallpaper and rugs for the bathroom the day before going to the hospital for BC surgery, neither of us knowing she'd never come back home to see it. I'd tell her in response that "Mom, there is nothing I'd rather do!" ........and only infrequently would that be a little fib.

Hi everyone. Just got home from a long day and read VIG's blog. What a great topic and I will try to come up with a 6 word poem. But first, has anyone had trouble logging on to MySpace today? When I pull up the site where the login place is, I only get half of it. I can put in my name and password, but the bottm half of the "login" area is hidden and I cannot click on it. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
