Ten Fingers and Ten Toes
by Sandie
My husband came home from work one day in March 1995 and said that he was being offered a three-year position in South Korea. He asked how I felt about that. I was terrified. Our boys were four and six at the time, perfect ages to take a tour . . . but Korea? I had visions of Mash running through my head. But we went. Little did I know that it would be one of the most special times in our lives.
My husband and I were thrilled with our two little boys and had decided that we were not going to have any more children. But one day in about the middle of our three-year tour, a friend asked me if I ever regretted not having a third child. I told her that I sometimes did, especially since I had always wanted a little girl. My husband overhead that conversation and later told me that he had been thinking the same thing. He asked me if I wanted to adopt a Korean baby. I was on the phone with the Korean adoption agency the next day.
Since it was a “local” adoption, it was a much easier process than adopting an Asian baby from the States. But, it wasn’t so easy for us. We were told that my husband was one month past the age limit! He had just turned 45. Well, I wasn’t about to let that stop me! I visited that orphanage every week, and soon got to know the ladies working there. They would roll their eyes when they saw me coming and chatter in Korean—I’m sure about the lady who couldn’t adopt but wouldn’t go away!
One day I met a Korean woman who knew of a different orphanage and she said she would be willing to take me there. This orphanage had babies but could not process the adoption paperwork—only the orphanage I had been talking to could actually do the adoption process. But, we went anyway.
My husband and I met with the head of the orphanage who told us that he had a six month old baby girl but she “was not perfect” and that we should come back another time. We asked to see her. My husband picked her up and as they looked into each others eyes, he said, “This is her, she is ours.” She was beautiful—she was perfect. She was missing a finger on each hand—she had a thumb and three fingers on each hand. We honestly didn’t give it a second thought.
After lots of pleading and me running all over Seoul with special paperwork, the other adoption agency agreed to take our case and by Christmas she was home. She was 7 and ½ months when she joined our family. And we have never looked back. She is our angel.
So whenever I hear a new Mom (and you hear it a lot in movies and on television) say that she first made sure the baby had ten fingers and toes, I shake my head. You see, our little girl is just perfect with eight.

When I think about South Korea, what comes to mind is their legislature always erupting into fistfights! LOL!
Goldie: When I read your post, I just naturally assumed that "mouse" was your pet name for Mr. Goldie. I was right, right?
And MEK... if "mine just died" was a reference to Mr MEK, then it would explain your actions late last night.
See? It all fits!
Have a great day, owls!
Sandie: How Wonderful is that! After all it is in the eyes and soul that really count! So happy you found your baby girl.
Zona: 1st way to go!

OOps that was supposed to be Whabbear!!!! I am distracted watching auctions this morning.
Hi Scrish welcome to the nest!
Goldie: Does Mr. Goldie. Take D cells or triple AAA's?
Welcome scirish!
Lynn, I just plug him in ~no batteries needed (yet, he is still fairly young though-ask me again in10 years)
See crap! Good Morning CpGem!
Goldie: Hope he has a long cord so you can take him anywhere! LOL
Sandie - You told me yesterday that you had written the blog and I was looking forward to reading it. I never expected to be so overcome by it. It is a beautiful story and tells what motherhood really is. I knew I always liked you but I love you now. Thanks also for the lovely messages you sent me yesterday.
Good Morning all early risers. It's 8:30 here on the west coast so I guess a lot of you have been up for hours. I had a lovely Chinese dinner with my family last night. The place was beautifully decorated for their New Year's this week.
My family all left at 5 am for Hawaii. I have a tracking device on my computer so I will track them until I know they are safely in Hawaii. I love the tracking device. It tells me how high they are flying and exactly where they are on each leg of their journey. I don't like flying anymore since 9/11 so I will be thankful when they arrive in Hawaii.
Have a great Saturday everyone.
Love, Tinka
no complaints on the cord and I do take him everywhere.....
everyone just ignore this comment
its a note to self!
cpgem8
take a deep breath, so what its raining, be thankful you have brain cells even tho they are dead, stand up and cheer that your business does well,do not tell clients to go to hell, instead thank them, give your employees a pat on the back today and thank them, you can eat chinese food and not feel guilty about the salt...
Now I feel better!
Good Morning Tinka! So glad you can track your family! I had no idea you could do that. I have to say I am imagining all of them with a Lojack attached! LOL
They will be fine and I know they will have a wonderful trip!
CPGem: Sounds like you are having a deep breathing day like me! Sending (((Hugs)))
Tinkatia, my son is a flight attendant so I am thankful everyday when planes land safely, especially the ones he is on!
Ok I have to quit watching this auction I put a bid in and that is that. I will not get competitive and bid crazy and curse at the computer.
There now I feel better.
Welcome to the nest, Scirish!
Tinkatia: Isn't that a nifty device? I love GPS !!
Goldie: LOL again! Perhaps we should get buttons that read "Pubic Power" ??
Carol: AND, you created the Owl's Nest! Pat yourself on the back! Life is good!
Thank you all so much! We are so blessed to have her and as you know she's a "perfect pre-teen" who is really testing me lately!!
East Bay J: thank you--I'm glad it got you off to a good start today!
Zona: thank you! you're always such a sweetie.
Goldie: thank you! Your battery charger comments are cracking me up!
Lovey: thank you, I cried writing it. It was such an emotional time.
Nowmercy: thank you, your comment was "perfect!"
Sacbarb: thank you! When we brought her home my youngest son was five and he asked me, "How are we going to understand her when she starts to talk since she'll speak Korean?" LOL
Whabbear: thank you! Yes, those Koreans are passionate people!
Lynn D: thank you!
Scirish: thank you!
Carol: thank you and thanks for encouraging me.
Tinka: thank you! You are just the kindest, most generous, genuine person. I love you, too!
I hope Barney is getting a good report at the vet, mek.
lynn d: did I ever tell you my sister is a big seller on ebay? she sells a bunch of little junkie stuff (to me, anyway!). She knows lots of people on ebay. I'll look up her store and tell you what it is.
Mary/MI: Read your comment from last night. Glad to hear you were able to "boost" more than once back in the day, too! :)
Sandie: Your Welcome!! Let me know your sisters info and I will look her up.
I was bidding on another site this morning. I won hehehe. So my little prayer post worked thank you nesters!!!
Mornin' Lynn D, Whabbear and Tinka.
Welcome scirish. Take a cruise around the place. We have couches and food in the kitchen. Help yourself.
Lynn D. Congrats on winning that auction, although you must be an expert at bidding..
P.S. Lynn D. I hope you slept better last night. Dianne and I were behaving and went to bed early.
Hi Sacbarb good morning to you!
Expert LOL Not!!! Like MEK I get sniped all the time. I have to put my bid in and let it go or I end up in a bidding war. I get so mad and competitive! It is crazy.
No sleep was toss and turn last night but I did not hear your lovely call!
BTW: Lest I get a Rep for being an abusive wife. Whabbear Mr. Lynn D was up before me yesterday. He had to testify at our state legislature on a bill for his job. I did not wake him up!!! I would not do that just to fix the computer.
Now I would for other things, oh and coffee! LOL
oopsie...how did that post twice?
Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Where do they sell those chargers?
OMG Whabby you slay me..Chargers..oh bwahahaha I cannot stop laughing.
Good morning all..we have crisp blue sky this morning. white beyond white blankets of snow, a balmy 28 degrees...so beautiful.
GEM..I second Whabby..pat yourself on the back too.. for many many things seen and unseen by others.
LOVEY.how many thongs does your owl HAVE?
Welcome SCIRISH!!!
TINK..we will all sigh with relief with you when they land.
GOLDIE..you crack ME up
SANDIE: Glad you feel nourished by the responses
LYNND: step away from the auction? YOU???
SACBARB: Hiya gal..have a great day
Oh, and Goldie..maybe you should look into wireless, oh well
Peace All!!!!!!!!
Sandie, that was a lovely post. You gals really amaze me with your beautiful writings and amazing lives.
Tinkatia, please don't worry about the airplanes. I feel much more safer in the air then on the highways. I have zig zaged across the country and to Europe without ever having encountered any problems. Also while your family is gone me and Cinnamon will keep you company on Myspace.
Waving hello to Zonababy, lovey, east bay, Carol, Wabbear, LynnD, Goldie, Nowmercie,Sacbarb, Skirish, Mek. If I forget someones name then I feel bad and please know that it isn't intentional. It's lack of reading glasses! :0)
Sandie That was the most beautiful love story. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
scirish Hi and welcome! Watch out for flying owls. They sometimes poop.
Goldie Thanks for the encouragement. :D
Zona Holla to you for being #1.
I just realized I'm still in my thong. Guess I better remove it until next week. Thanks again, Lovey.
nowmercy, I think wireless is what what they do before they get plugins..
Morning to you too Dreama
dreamatexas and just_lin, thank you so much for your kind commnents!
Goldie At least he's not a hybrid.....half gas!
cpgem8 Just a word of gratitude for creating and maintaining this place. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all love it here. Thank you.
Shout out to you just_lin. You must have came in right after me.
Sandi - I just read your story again. I loved it. Thank you also for the sweet compliments. I 'home-stayed' 33 Asian students since 1999, some for just a month, most of them 3 months and a few for a year or more. I never had more than 2 at a time. I grew to love so many of them. I could easily have adopted them. I found the Asian girls sweet and well mannered. I learned so much about their culture from them. I have been invited to their homes. When I lose my fear of flying I will take them up on it.
ZonaBaby - I just noticed you were first. Sorry I didn't notice it before. I bet you are sleeping now but you can read this later.
nowmercy - I agree. I breathe a sigh of relief with every safe landing.
Dreamatexas - I flew all over the world for 8 years and enjoyed every minute. I felt safer on the planes than I did in the taxis when I arrived at my destination. Since
9/11 I haven't flown and I don't want to. My kids are flying all the time. If I had the power I would duct tape them to their homes and wouldn't let them fly but they are adults now. I know it's an irrational fear but it's real to me none the less. I admire you being able to fly without worrying about terrorists.
I am having fun playing with my flight tracker. My family safely arrived in Seattle and as I write are taking off, 19 minutes late, for Los Angeles. I love modern technology. I can just hear some of you saying '"Audrey get a life".
Sandie: Lovely story!
Tinka: Where in my islands are your family coming to?
Whabbear: Dan Diego Chargers....lmao!
Goldie: Still thinking about "bogart" that one made me roll on the f'n floor
Aloha Kakahiaka blog buds...
I think Mo had a metting this morning. Cross your fingers for her everyone.
KGirl Your owl is so..............alert! It scared me for a minute. LOL
MEK I hope things are going okay for Barney. Oh, and did you have to be first and last yesterday?
Dianne/Denver LMAO @ chastity belt. Hmmmm. I thought it was a lovely gift from Lovey but perhaps the two of you are conspiring to steal my cowboy.
K-Girl - They are going to Maui. They rent the same Condo for two weeks every second February. It is such a highlight for them. The grandkids save their money for 2 years for their trip. What island are you on? My favourite is Kauii.
They are now flying at 569 MPH at 32,500 ft. so they are well on their way.
Tinka:
Dangnabbit! And here I thought I could send a box of chocolate covered Mac Nuts and a lei back with them for you.
j/l: My lil ole owl eyes scare you? 8-)
Jodi: It's okay that all got all fixed up for you last night...my husband wanted to know why I was wearing lipstick and petals in my hair to go to bed. I just pretended it was for him :)
JustLin: I had "issues" the other night. You don't need to make it sound like I just swoop and poop all the time.
Hi Scirish: Welcome to the nest.
Sandie: I loved your story. You put it into such great words too. You owls could write a wonderful book with all these daily stories. Each one is so special and touching. It is nice to get to know everyone in such different ways.
LynnD: SacBarb and I really were quiet last night. We were exhausted from the night before of waking everyone up and cowboys and Custard and all that stuff.
K-Girl: Yikes, your owl scared the crap out of me. He makes the other owls look tame.
Mek: Hope Barney is okay today. I hope you start feeling 100% soon too.
Tink: Doesn't it just make you mad when our kids won't do what we think they should do? My son always said I wanted him to live in a bubble and now he is a police detective---so much for the bubble.
J/L: Hmmmm, now Lovey is in on the "getting to know you" party with SacBarb and I and the "cowboy"? It is feeling kind of crowded when I all wanted was to scout ahead for you to be sure all was safe. You know that is what we do in these cowboy states.
Whabby: You make me laugh about the San Diego Chargers!! You are one quick guy!
Dianne/Denver I just thought I should give KGirl a heads up..........oh, wait, she might get poop in her eye. Keep your head down, KGirl!
And, Dianne, STOP THINKING ABOUT MY CUSTARD!!!
okokokokokok.....
is this a better pic me my owl? a lil less scary for you panties?
Sandie, what a beautiful blog. Thank you for sharing. I used to have a neighbor who adopted a boy from Korea. They did not actually go to Korea, it was done through pictures. Well now that I think of it he may have gone to pick him up. Not sure. It was a long time ago. Anyway, they saw this little boy and just fell in love right away. They knew he was the one. When they told the agency the agency rep told them that they didn't want that boy because he was deformed. So they ask what did they mean by deformed. He was missing his clavicle bones I think it was, so his chest kinda caved in a little and his arms are little shorter then normal. Their response was "Is that all? We'll take him." They loved him so much, and he was such a blessing to them. And one of my friends from school who I am still really good friends with has an older sister who also adopted 2 girls from Korea. My god those girls are beautiful! They have both completed college and are very successful. One of the girls was married a year or so ago.
OK, that is all.
Howdy Howdy to everyone else!
I'm off to lunch and a movie with my mom. We're gonna see Michael Clayton today.
**crossing my fingers for MEK's barney**
until later!
Barb
KGirl Yes, I like this quizzical one much better. The other one looked like he'd eat my baby one. I guess we are candy asses. I used to have one that frightened a couple of people, too.
one more thing.....
i just have to say that i love love looooove all the owl pics!
K-Girl, new owl looks less scary but the other one was "nice'.
J/L: I can't quit thinking about Custard. I made a huge poster from his picture the other night and it is now on my ceiling..looking down at me and kind of winking!! Yippee!!!
Dianne/Denver Bitch!!! He's not winking, he's trying to close his eyes.
Tinka, I'm so glad your family is just about there so you can rest easy. Yes, I love the Asian students, too. I taught English while we were there (more like English conversation) and I had many middle and high school students. They were always so polite and kind. They treated me with such respect since I was a "teacher." They were so inquisitive, too, and didn't hesitate to ask any old embarrassing question either. They made me laugh. You should visit them sometime--I'll go with you! I want to take Aubree when she's older--we left when she was two so she doesn't remember anything about Korea.
Thank you, kgirl, Dianne/Denver and Barb_in_wa! Barb, I'm not surprised at your story about the Korean boy. In their culture, when a baby is born with some kind of issue that to them is not "normal," they think that God is punishing them and they are so embarrassed that they often do not keep the child. Koreans are all about saving face. Americans have a different view--we feel that God doesn't give us more than we can handle and we take on those kinds of challenges with hope and pride. At least that's the way I see it. I don't judge the Koreans, that's just their culture. They are warm and loving people.
There's so much more to my adoption story but I didn't want to make you all read a book this morning! So, I'll make you read it now. Just kidding! But I do want to tell you one more part--hope you don't mind.
When we brought Aubree home, all of my Korean students were amazed that we wanted to adopt and called us angels with such love in their eyes. It's just not something they do, although I think it is better now than it used to be. I kept telling them that it was us who were the lucky ones.
When they actually met Aubree, all of them were appalled that we wanted her (because of her hands). Some even visibly shuddered when they looked at her hands. But, as they got to know her and love her too, they changed . . . and thanked me for teaching them an important lesson. I am so glad that we were able to change even one mind about a little girl with so much to give besides her appearance.
Okay, I'm done. I promise.
Hope everyone is having a great Friday!!
Hey everyone..
didn't have a chance to read ALL the comments - BUT, Nowmercy gets the prize - After I wrote my little note - I thought - GEE, I wonder which one of my little friends will jump on this!!!
Gotta love Goldie for biting her tongue!!! LOL
OKAY -
Our Barney - I TRIPLE LOVE MY VET!!
I never thought that maybe his problems could be because of the MASSIVE cold weather we have been having....... even though he IS getting older and these problems WILL get worse - we will start him on some pain meds and see if they help!!!!!! Then really watch him when it's warm out and hopefully it IS the cold!!! SO - good news for now!!!!!!!
Thanks for all your well wishes for him - he's such a special guy..
I gotta run again - so - HI to everyone!!!
I just wanted to all to know that he's fine for now!!!!!!
doing the happy dance!!!! :-)
love you guys!!!!!!!! more than you know!!!!!!!
K-Girl - It was a very nice thought thank you.
Dianne - I would wrap my kids and grandkids in bubble wrap if I could get away with it. It's a good thing I didn't have only one child. He would have been so neurotic from being over-protected. Now I overly protect my 'fur-babies'. No-body can complain about that.
Sandie - I may take you up on that. If I can get over my fear of flying we will take Aubree to see her original home.
Sandie Your story just gets more beautiful the more you tell.
MEK Doing Happy Dance for Barney.
PS - before I run out
Tinka, Zona and Whabby -
Ghost Whisper is a RERUN tonight!!
Love you guys!!!
Thank you, just_lin!
mek, I'm singing the Barney song! "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family . . ." Yea for Barney!
Boy my Timing is unreal...
I have been so worried about my Barney boy....All day..
He is a very special guy!!!
Glad it is good news!!!
Sandie-- beautiful story...
ANd a shout out to every one else ... the nest is so full today...
Glad most everyone is on the mend from their differing ailments...
Donna jean... you and Laurie remain in my prayers...
Thanks for all thought and love...
We are covered in ice today... so far about 1/2 inch...
I have taken some pictures... will post sometime this weekend..
Glad I don't have to leave the mountain today...
ok...so, I have my hat on to avoid flying poop...
Tink- I hear ya...I am not a fan of flying either..my poor hunny just about had permanent finger marks on his arm from the last time...and that was WITH a valium. I like getting where you're going faster..if only you didn't have to take off and land :)
SCirish--- I am Ibebold... glad to meet you... some call me IBB...
welcome to the nest!!
scirish-- and they talk alot of stuff... but they are best group of people ....
Mek~ So happy to hear Barney is okay~ And congrats on last~ only you~ :)
Zona~ congrats on 1st~
Sandie~ beautiful story....you are one lucky family~
Goldie~ you are so naughty~ :)~
just_lin~ when is your ride again? btw....i would take Dianne up on her offer. Why? Cuz I want details and I just don't think we'll get them from you~ :)~
k-girl~ kissing your ass...just cuz~
Tinka~ what airline is your family flying on....if I might ask~ I can understand your reluctance to fly. At first after 9/11, many many people did not want to fly. I was nervous at first.....but when my parents got sick (in CA), I was so grateful that I could fly to be with them....now I don't hesitate to get on a plane and go~ :)
J/L: Shame on you. Tina and Jodi are teaching you naughty words!! I "thought" that was why you sent that Custard picture. I guess maybe I was wrong, heh? I am just trying to make him feel welcome and for the million(th) time...keeping you safe. Don' you watch 48 Hours? It is only what any friend would do for another. I hope my husband sees it the same way I do when I am packing!!
Ok...off to volunteer work. See ya' all later.
crap!!! Hi scirish~ welcome to the nest~ Did Rosie answer your question the other day? If so...congrats~ :)
Hi everyone~
MEK: Glad Barney is doing good. I miss my fur bud still and it's been over a year.
Tina: I thought I felt something a flutter down there.....next time bite it after you kiss it.
IBB and everyone who has offered welcomes-thanks
sorry if I am a bit wifty today...I have new pain meds and wooooooo...i have cotton brain, but my back still hurts..hmmmm
Tina- Yup, that was my question..what fun! I was yelling "she answered my question" to the dog. Somehow he was not all that impressed.
Dianne/Denver and Tina It just warms my heart how you are looking out for me. Custard gave his opinion on exactly where he could hang his cowboy hat but then it would REALLY be in the way. LOL
Just_Lin~ there is a picture on my myspace page of just where he would hang it~ Now...IF YOU HAD A PAGE, you could see the pic!!!!! You do realize we are NOT going to let up on THAT subject either~
k-girl~ you are so freaking naughty~ I'll bite next time~
scirish~ yay for you....I would broadcast that if I were you~ :)~
Good Day All! IBB's right...lots of owls up & about today. I like that...and welcome in, scirish. We DO have fun here!
Sandie ~ Beautiful story, beautiful girl. Left you a comment on her photo. Physical 'perfection' is an overrated virtue, indeed.
MEK ~ lovin' the good news about Barney. My old bones kinda ache in the cold, too!
Another busy day at my house.....be back later. (((((NEST))))

So bad...
I enjoy a good race...
Didn't knock anyone over...Hope NOT!!
J/L ~~ just read Tina's post and I think it may be the photo comment I sent her that she's referring to.......only sent it to her BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FREAKIN' MYSPACE PAGE!!! which is exactly what I told her when I sent it. Did we mention that we are NOT going to let up until you and DJ get on MySpace? Did we?
This may be a repeat to some that have already received it, but I thought it was funnier than all get out....
A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get started."
Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when its finished?"
The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a rooster."
Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle.
She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.
He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says,
"First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to
assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster."
He takes her hand and says,
"Second, I want you to relax. Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then .." he said with a deep sigh, . .. . .. .. .. .
Let's put all the cornflakes back into the box.
O.K.... Off to start dinner...
Have a good afternoon all...
Bon'o~ YELL LOUDER.....SHE DOESN'T SEEM TO HEAR US!!!!! :)~
K-girl....bbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaddddd~ loved it~
Tina ~~ still here? Off today? Nice to see you out in the daylight. Gonna send you a funny, apropos of nothing, just 'cuz. :o)
IBB I like your little owl. She even has eyelashes. And, she can march! Congrats!
Tina and Bon'O You two are RELENTLESS!
DonnaJean If you are reading this, I hope you are feeling better. Actually, I hope you are feeling better even if you aren't reading this. LOL
Gee, JustLin........if you and DonnaJean were on MySpace, you wouldn't spend so much time looking for each other....just sayin' :o)
Just_Lin~ Have you signed up for myspace yet? You could even get hottie boy to do it and then we could send him naughty comments and give him ideas for you.....we are all about helping you out~ :)~
Sandie,
Bless you and your husband's heart for not giving up and taking "no" for an answer. Aubree is beautiful! It must be a wonderful feeling for her to know how hard the two of you fought to give her a loving family and home. I wish all children knew that kind of love. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful, inspiring story!
Owls,
Hello to everyone!
We had a snow storm last night, and none of my clients canceled today, but my bather couldn't make it in. All of us spoiled groomers had to bathe and dry our own dogs. It was a very busy day, and I'm exhausted!
Good night! :)
Good Afternoon Owlies!
Dianne: Glad to see you are feeling better. Though I am wondering why you have custard on your ceiling??? Are you sure that is really custard.
I am slow and finally figured it out. Poor Just lin. I think you need to do a fly over at Dianne's.
Just Lin: I agree with everyone and am going to apply peer pressure!! Get a damn Myspace!!!
DonnaJean too!
Kgirl: love your owl and your blonde joke! LMAO!
IBB: Like the owl Pic and you stomped them on 100!!!
MEK: So glad you and Barney are home and you know what is going on!!!
Anyone I missed I will fly in later!
Love ya all
Oh Tina: You are such a whore!!!
Lynn D~ and we all know how to spell whore...J-O-D-I~
Just_Lin~ if you had myspace....you would know that I'm on my way to pick up the 15 yr old from school....see what you are missing~ :)~
MEK- good news on Barney!
No one was more impressed than me that i bit my tongue :)
Was out running errands and buying supplies .. Now going to go out to dinner. Mr. Goldie asked me to dinner and since I didn't have much lunch we are going early. We are going to go out with the blue hairs and get the early bird specials! I think my fish fry will be a dollar off.
Then I am going to bring him home and plug him in since I want him all charged up. I will be out of town all day tomorrow, so don't want him going wireless without me.
K-gurl lmao!!! I totally did not see that coming
Tina - I just saw your question. My kids flew Alaska to Seattle and then to L. A. They left on United 47 at 2:24 and will arrive around 6.
That's what I need is something to get me flying again. Then I would see it was safe. I loved flying until 9/11 and now I just want to stay home. Have you made many flight after that first one when your parents were sick?
The more I think about it the more I am going to have to make the effort.
Mek - Which re-run is Ghost Whisperer tonight? I am trying to spread out season one to last until the birthday fairy brings me season two ( I hope) for my birthday in April. Each night I light all my candles and get into bed with my furry babies and watch it. I think Season one is less scary than the new ones. Am I right or not?
Lovey - I just noticed your own with the big red hat. It made me laugh. Where did you find it?
Lovey - I need to proof read. You probably figured out I meant "owl with a red hat" not "own".
Scirish - I agree. It's the taking off and landing that's scary. That's why I would rather pay more and fly direct.
K-Girl - Loved your blond joke. The fact that I am 'blond' had nothing to do with it.
Tina - I must say you have the cutest owl of all. Oh dear I shouldn't have said that. I just noticed Zona's cute 'owl'. Oh dear do I have to choose?
Amicus - You have a good rest. Don't worry about myspace. I am sure it will straighten itself out.
Tina ROFLMFAO @ hottie boy. And what? I should have MySpace so I can get updated alerts on your daily schedule? Nice try. I know that you and Bon'O and LynnD and others just want a new page to victimize.
J/L:
Think of it this way, it gives you the opportunity to victimize as well!
Come jois us in mespaceland!
KGirl You do have a point. By the way, I love the attitude of your new owl. There is almost something Stepford about it, if you know what I mean.
I love all of you guys' owl photos. My lil dog has big round eyes so I put up her picture. One of these days I'll find time and get a real owl picture I promise. Talk at ya all later. We're heading out for dinner and a movie.
Everyone keep TINKATIA's mind off airplanes while I am gone. Bye for now.
j/l:
I picked this one as my fur bud that is no longer with me used to look at me and cock her head when I spoke to her. Like I was saying something completely idiotic.
You know the scooby doo reaction...lol.
IBB, Tina and Amicus--thank you so much for your kind comments about the blog. She's a special little girl.
And, just_lin, she's cute, too! But you wouldn't know that . . . since you don't have a myspace!!!
ha-ha~ Sandie~ touche~ :)~
hey sandie my page is /turtlehere
send me a request so I can see her adorable face!
tina:
did you say that you needed a douche?
kgrl~ I've heard they can't spell in hawaya~ :)~
kgirl, you have mail!
just_lin, you're right! kgirl's owl does look stepford-ish!
I just realized my owl looks like she has eyeliner and blush on.
Tinka~ Alaska is a nice airline...they have really great people working for them~ Since my dad got sick in July, I've flown back and forth to CA 20 times and will go again in a week~ It's a Godsend that I can fly back and forth so easily~ Just get some of that courage you used to get on that first cruise ship and jump on a plane....you'll need to anyway to meet some of the blog buddies~ I hear there's a really nice one in PHX~ :)~
Sandie: adorable beyond belief!
How easy was that. Poof I as added and looking at pics of Aubree, your hubby, Ty, your fur kids....woo your page in pretty pink!
j/l: gotta get one.
Tina: We abbreviate everything here! and with all the different cultures and dialects and accents we're bound to screw somethin up.... 8-0
OMG! This is so weird. I just got an email from one of my very good friends in Korea!! Today of all days!! Carol--everything happens for a reason!
Thank you so much, kgirl! She is a cutie.
It's funny but when people say my boys are handsome (or cute when they were little) I always say/said thank you. When someone says Aubree is cute, I say yes, she is, isn't she??
I guess because I had nothing to do with making her that way? LOL
k stepford owl is hibernating.... say hello to green eyed owl....keeping watch over ass biters!
kgirl, checked out your myspace page--you're so pretty!
I have a nice shell, and I keep my fins manicured well don't I?
The salt water does not do much for my skin, I try to waddle around in the aloe as much as possible, but I just get full of sand on the way back to the water.
Well, you do a good job, kgirl. Too bad just_lin can't see . . .
JustLIn and DonnaJean: I hope you surrender and do myspace. I am one of the most paranoid, cautious, protective people you would ever meet. I was REALLY REALLY REALLY hesitant/resistant to the myspace. Now I am having fun, feel in control, supported, supportIVE, and adventurous. Thanks to my BONSIS I took the leap.
I hope you all do too..I also love that my friends think I'm nuts, but at least having fun and not staying too leashed to my caution.
Thanks for all the support to all who got me plugged in and set up well.
Gotta go do movie noodle night with dd...Monk, Psyche, pasta, asparagus, wine (me) Rootbeer (her), lemon sorbet with hot fudge. All in the comfort of my water bed, propped up on pillows after showers and facials...ahhhhhhhhhh.
Didn't catch up except to catch the myspace encouragment. oh and the cornflakes joke.
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this nest and have so much gratitude for how much room there is here to be all of who we are. (except for Jodi..maybe not all at once), and Goldie, oh, and Bon and...
Hugs
I'm off to go watch some tv with my handsome hubby. Thank you all for your wonderful responses to my story. I hope I didn't chatter on too much about it all day!
Have a great Friday night.
Keep it up , gals~~we'll wear them down eventually......but oh, what they're missing with each day that passes without myspace, right?
I was even disappointed again today when I found the perfect photo-comment for k'girl...then remembered her space won't accept photo-comments. DANG! I'm so easily crushed (boo-hoo).
150
Bon'O~ send it to her in an email~ :)~
bon'o:
Send it to me in a message, instead of a comment.....
just ask tina....
Good evening everyone!
Sandie~What a heartwarming post! It sounds like the making of a Hallmark movie. What a lucky family you are! Thanks for sharing.
MEK! 1st & Last! Another record set!
I am so glad your Barney is ok. It makes sense that the weather would effect our fur friends just like it does us. I foresee a lot of cuddling until warmer weather.
Kahunogrl~ Love your new pic!
Just Lynn~ "space up" already!!!
Anyone who hasn't put me on their myspace are welcome to invite me. Just go to MEK,Jodi,Tina's my space and ask.
I don't think I will be online too long tonight. A few owletts that shall go nameless (Jodi,Kahuno girl,Babara,Tina) kept me up until 4;30am. Mich. time!
thanks, gals; I'll maybe try that later. Off to dinner in a bit.
p.s. I remembered after reading nowmercy's post above that someone (I think it was MEK?) asked if N/M and I were real-life sisters as she & IBB are. Wish I could say yes, but alas no. Just discovered on Rossblog that we were incredibly kindred spirits. Then, through the magic of MYSPACE....oh, gee...how did that word creep in again?
oh, and J/L....did we mention that about the only way one of your 'Friends' can deface your page is by sending you a photo comment that you find gross, insulting, distasteful, rude, etc.?
and where, I ask, would the fun be if they DIDN'T ;D~ But YOU and only you have the power to immediately delete any such comment, and/or even delete the 'friend' if you wish. That's the beauty of (altogether now Owls--say it loud) MySpace.
bon'O~ lmao....let's keep at her~

Oh, btw J/L, have we mentioned how easy it is to put photos on YOUR MySpace page for your friends to see of yourself, your family, your fur-babies, your weather, your vacations, your cowboys..............
J/L~ and how to set the whole thing to private so ONLY your FRIENDS can see~ :)~

Tina - You are talking me into it. I really must get my passport and try again. I loved the Alaska airlines. I always flew them to L.A. Then I would have to transfer to a different airlines. I always find the Alaska attendants the friendliest. On the trip from Seattle to Victoria they always give out free wine. I don't know if that's because they are so nice or if it's because it's the bumpiest flight in the States.
K - Girl - If you answered my question of which island you are on I must have missed it. Maybe for privacy reasons you don't want to tell. I wouldn't blame you. You can send it to myspace.
Tinka~ If that didn't talk you into it....how about this...the wine is better now. Hubby loves the Delta wine~ Once, the flight attendant gave him a whole bottle for his "birthday"! (her daughter is in his school!) This is going to sound awful....but I went back and checked my flight history since 9/11....and I've flown on over 125 flights..I didn't realize that...we even sent our daughter to Cabo to vacation with another family last spring....and she went by herself~ I think that's the most nervous I've ever been...but she was fine~ :) I know you can do it and I know you will love it....especially if there is an Owl on the other end to greet you~ :D
Tink~ I'll tell you...she's on Oahu~ :)~
Hiya Owls!!!
I hope everyone had a fantastic Friday!!
Today we got a pile of snow dumped on us..It was beautiful.I got a nice surprise too, hubby took the afternoon off work. So we just hung out watching TV together and of course nappin :o)
Tinka--Ty, it's my same Owl, I just put a red hat and painted a red boa on her.Did the kids land yet?
Mek-- So happy Barney is ok.xox
JustLin--I'm with Tina n Bon.. GET A MYSPACE... please..lol... don't be afraid.. set it to private..and just friends can send u mail.
TURTLE--LMAO..good joke, thanks for the laugh.
IB--Congrats on winning the race earlier.
NowMercy-- I so agree with you... and I think you're are a blast. You bring me laughter :o)
Shout outs to everyone!!
I hope my internet doesn't go down with all the snow on the lines... and if it does.. please know I'm thinking of ya'll..
Lots of Hugs xox
Oops I forgot something...
Tinka...I was terrified, I mean terrified to the point I was shaking and vomitting to fly after 9-11
Here's what got me on a plane.
As I headed for the gate, legs shaking so much I could barely walk. all I thought of was the nice hot bubble bath and room service I was going to have one I landed... and don't take a long first flight. make it a short one.Get over the first fear and you'll have your wings back ready to fly anywhere again.
and if that fails, call Tina, she'll come runnin to hold your hand n keep you fly happy until u land!!
The Owls will make n send brownies to u.:o) hehe
Tinkatia: How about considering this as a reason (and opportunity) to fly?
Why not surprise your family and join them, with no advance notice whatsoever, in Hawaii?
I'll bet they would be blown away, absolutely thrilled!!!
You all are really on a roll with this MySpace thing. I don't really get the MySpace thing and I wouldn't know what to do with it. I am very hesitant/resistant. I don't know how you all have time for it either. I already feel like I spend too much time on the computer doing this right here.
Just Lin.. u forget, u have the control if you spend time on it or not.lol.
It's fun, it's easy for ppl to send mail, instead of to home email addys.
But, I must be truthful..
I LOVE LOVE LOVE creating online, but waking up, signing in, and see the wonderful comments n pics friends leave..it starts my day off with a full heart n some days tons of laughter :o)
whabbear...too, too funny. If Tink hasn't already told you before I post this, I emailed her earlier today (on MySpace, J/L) with that very suggestion. Even offered to go with her!! Said we could just knock on their door and say "Guess Who??"
Tijo are you all ready for your big dress up party tomorrow?
I am waiting patiently for pics :o)
For Tink~I mentioned that I was a nervous nellie/nancy about flying...but it really hasn't been all bad. I flew from Boston to Germany by myself 4 times and had a good experience on all the flights. Little slippers and hot steamy towels scented with the nice smelly stuff I can't spell (eqaliptus???? ark no..but you get the drift)the nervous part started when I flew from CT to Dallas in a thunderstorm...never got over that and have been nervous about flying ever since. It was safe though...I just think I would feel better if I was flying the plane....I could learn....
loverly~ I'm sorry....I won't be able to show you pics because I don't have a myspace page....oh wait...YES I DO!!!!!!!~ Oh....but Just_Lin won't be able to see them...shucks!!! I hate not being able to share with EVERYONE!!!!! :)~
Tinka~

LMAO Tina...^5 good one
Just Lin?? r u starting to seriously consider it?
Just_Lin~ uh....what's your email address?~ And....uh.....what's like...uh...your favorite...uh...password? Huh? Or just your email would be fine~ :)~
Loverly~ thx~ :D
Good evening dear hooters!
MEK sooo glad to hear that Barney is ok! I was thinking about you today and hoping you had good news.
JL I didn't have Myspace for a long time, but I caved after much persistance. I'm glad I did! I like it, don't spend a whole lot of time on it but it is a great way to share pics with people you want to share with.
Plus your friends will send you crazy thong pics ;)
Tinka I don't like to fly either, but due to the fact that I love Hawaii, I do it and am always glad when I do! It really isn't that bad, and now days the security is so tight, which is a big relief.
Welcome to Scirich, you've joined an awesome gang here!
Dreama I think Cinnamon has owl-like eyes! She is just precious.
OK we are having our first party here in the new house on Sunday, so I still need to figure out where to hide boxes and stuff!
Bye for now!
Zona~ I've had to look at that godforsaken ugly hugh all day long!!! And i've decided....he looks just like Judge Reinhold!!!! THAT will make looking at him bearable~ :)~
Tinka: I am in fact oon Oahu, but if you make to to Hawaii and surprise your family, I will fly to Maui and meet you for lunch/dinner! We can
coordinate on say MYSPACE?
Tina: your not biting hard enuff....
I'm suppose to be on the treadmill right now. I keep looking at it, but it is just not calling me to walk on it tonight.
Tina MY apologies, I SPACEd out for a while here. SacBarb, Whabbear, Lovey and DonnaJean have my email addy. It's fine to get it from any of them.
hey sackie.....will you please send me Just_lin's addy~ :)~
K- Girl - I can't go anywhere without a passport but when I get it, Hawaii is one of the first places I want to go. That would be fun.
Oh Tina, Hugh is gorgeous. Didn't you like him in Notting Hill? In Bridget Jones' Diary I thought both he and Colin were yummy.
East Bay J - You will have to meet K-girl and me for drinks in Hawaii at sunset.
Tina - Thanks for the site. I bookmarked it and I will get on it tomorrow. I didn't know where you were sending me. I was expecting to find pictures of George Clooney. Surprise! It was a passport application form.
Tinkatia I hope you go get a passport. They're good for a long time and that way if something comes up and you decide you want to go, you'll be ready. You know, it was alot less safe to fly before 9/11 than it is now.
Hey, are we marching yet?
Let's go!!!!
Where is everybody?
Yoohoo!!!
How many are lurking?
Are you all at your MySpace pages?
This one's for Hugh Grant!!!!
Take that, Tina!
