What is your color?

iteach
has a question for us
today!

What is your color?

by iteach

I started thinking about colors today when I went to the dentist office.

Everything was purple!

Apparently, my dentist loves purple and everything has to be purple.

I have never been attached to a certain color. When my students are drawing me a picture they always say "Mrs. what is your favorite color?" . They stare at me blankly, if I say I like them all. So I have always said blue & red. The colors of a Pepsi can and the Chicago Cubs.

My dentist is not the only one who is mad about a color. The secretary at our school also happens to be in love with purple and one of our first grade teachers will only work in a room with blue walls.

So now I am wondering, if any of my fellow owl friends have a particular color that they can't live without ? What color dominates your life? I would love to hear about it.

You rascal - You did it to me again. I guess I still love you.

Beaten by 3 minutes and by a friend no less,.

Tinkatia said...

Blue - How I feel because Scirish beat me.
Blue - How cold I am because I haven't yet put on the heat.

Tinkatia said...

I feel blue because Scirish posted and ran away without saying "Good Morning Tink" Well I am bigger than that,
Good Morning Sweet Scirish.

scirish said...

mornin Tink...Glad you still love me..

scirish said...

I'm here...had to go get some tea...It is cold this morning!

Tinkatia said...

My signature colour is 'pink'. My bedroom is pink. Most of my summer clothes are pink. When we got back from Hawaii in '95 Ron showed his friend the pictures he had taken. His only comment was "Boy your friend sure likes pink". I hadn't noticed before that I had a different outfit on in each picture and they were all different shades of pink. I decided then that PINK was my favourite colour. Now to be just like her nana, my granddaughter always chooses pink too.

scirish said...

awww..your granddaughter sounds so cute

Tinkatia said...

Oh you are still there. Thank you for the Good Morning. Where's Maureen with our breakfast and Dreama with my tea? You had to go and get your own. That's not fair. We are used to being waited on here. I like the fact that there are no calories in cyberfood. I am going to wait to see what your favourite colour is.

Iteach - I am sorry I didn't mention the fact that you wrote a great post. Good for you. I should have said that first. Now I am feeling blue about that.

Tinkatia said...

My baby owls look so cute all lined up in a row. Scirish, my pet, I can't wait any longer to find out your favourite colour. I must eat before I faint once more and Dreama dispatches Whabbear to save me.

Zona, Tina, Ronniegirl, Dianne, Jodi, Birdee - Are you still asleep? You are living up to your name of "Night Owls". Good Morning my good friends.

Amicus - I am nervous to find out how Fantine is. Please tell me he's better.

VIG - I hope it is not too cold in Ontario. I am feeling blue because you are now so far away. Please hurry home.

scirish said...

I really don't have a favorite color..I am drawn to rich colors like cobalt blue and hunter green to wear but I like things in my home to be sunny cheerful colors like pale yellows, soft blues and sea foam green. The one color I don't like is light pink (sorry Tink) but I do like mauve and rasberry shades...odd. Color is such a subjective thing..I think it has a lot to do with mood, personality and the feeling you want to express.

Tinkatia said...

Now I really am blue because I am talking to myself. I will be back in half an hour when the nest begins to fill up.

whabbear said...

ROFLMAO@Tinka and scirish!

iteach: My favorite color has always been red, but not obsessed with it. My car is red, but that's about it.

Tink likes pink! Tink likes pink! I like pink too; I have a couple of pink shirts. Back in the mid 80's in Ontario, I used to wear a pink shirt, but my mother didn't like it. I think she thought that if I wore pink, I might be gay.

Didja all watch the eclipse last night? Didja didja? It was gorgeous!

Tinkatia said...

I like your colour comment better than mine because it is more didactic in it contents. My post didn't teach a thing except for the fact that Tink likes Pink.

Tinkatia said...

Whabbear - Good Morning my dear friend. I am glad you joined us. I only saw the last part of the eclipse. On the night that the moon is really full I can't see it until it clears the trees around my house. That is about 9:00. By then it is high in the sky and the eclipse was almost over. The night before the moon is completely full, it rises earlier. Is there a reason for that?
You are too young to remember this but when I was a teenager pink and grey was all the rage for young men. Grey suits and pink ties were favourites at prom. My boyfriend's father had a pink and grey Chevie. I think I loved him for the car alone.

My favorite colors are shades of cream and light tan. I like the calming effect. My home is filled full of these colors.
However if it's clothes then I choose black and any shade of red. Red makes me happy.

spring said...

Great topic ITEACH, sweet that your students draw pictures with your fave colors..

SCIRISH: OOOOH GOLD MEDAL!

TINKY PINKY GIRL!

WHABBY: I thought of you a lot last night..we had a great view of the eclipse. Daughter and I pulled up a big chair in front of a bedroom window and just stared. She informs me that even though the moon looked like a planet without the sun's reflection, it is indeed a moon. She lectured me about the gravity differences, umbra, peneumbra (sp?) etc and we just became hypnotized for the whole time. Lots of wows and sighs.

DREAMA: I think I need Tea AND Coffee, thanks much

Hope CG is warming up, Carol is feeling better, and all the owls are recovering...

spring said...

DREAMA: Thanks much for the a.m. meal..I'll take the eggs and fruit and an IV with coffee.

Hope you have a terrific day.

Oh..colors..I have ALWAYS been in love with Yellow and Red together. I just LOVE those colors. I also love light blue or the blue in the sky in the Fall and deep winter. I love the red reeds in the winter along stream beds, Fall colors, the deep brown/black of freshly turned earth for a garden, the light light green on the walls of my practice room and the way my eyes change from brown to hazel when I am really curious..my daughter's eyes do the same thing. I also LOVE the color of jet black dark..I love isolation tanks and places that are so dark the eyes have nothing to do.

Thanks ITEACH...

Wishing all a color filled Thursday...

Good Morning Owls!

I know I have been MIA lately. Trying to catch up.

Iteach great topic! Really weird tho I was thinking about this yesterday. Only I was thinking What is you favorite color and why? And what do you see when you reflect on this color?

My favorite is green. I love all shades of green. It just means renewel and growth and hope to me.

I don't dress in all green or have all green in my house but I do gravitate to certain shades. I love what Bono calls Martha Stewart green. It is a calming shade and reminds me of the forties.

I love to see the new grass and leaves start to show in the spring. That green is so beautiful it can make your eyes hurt when you first glance at it.

Then there is the deep lush forest green. Living in WA state I am lucky to see it year round. It is comforting and cozy to me. When we lived in Eastern WA I was always homesick to see those trees. When we would go over the pass I would sigh in relief and comfort because it was home to me.

But truly I love all color! A rain bow of Delight!

Whabby we watched the eclipse from our living room window last night! It was beautiful and wonderous to watch.

Tinka: I am not surprised to know that your color is pink! I can see it when I read your posts!

Good Morning scirish and Dreama!!!

scirish: Congrats on First!!!!

Dreama: Thank you for breakfast!

goldie said...

Good morning all!!

I thought and and thought and I don't have a color that dominates my life. I really don't have an absolute favorite either, but I thnk I gravitate to shades of green.

Whab- the Eclipse was great last night. Had a really good view of it here.

Amicus said...

Tinka,
Fantine didn't make it through the night, and I don't know how I'm going to get through this day. I can't stop crying, and I keep having to apologize to my clients.

I told the vet I wasn't comfortable with her staying at the clinic overnight. I even asked him what would happen if she had a seizure, and no one was there. He assured me it was the right thing to do.

I should have trusted my gut instinct. She needed me, and I wasn't there for her. She was all alone when she passed away. I don't know if I can forgive myself for that. My heart is devastated. :'(

Gotta go kids..enjoy.

whabbear said...

Tinkatia, nowmercy, Lynn D, and Goldie:

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it, and glad mowmercy's daughter could shed some light (LOL) on the moon!

For more: Audrey... YES, there is a simple reason why the Moon is higher above the Eastern horizon when the sun sets the day before it is full, compared to the day that it is actually full.

When we look at the moon, it looks totally still and tranquil, like it's stationary in the night sky. That's an illusion, though. In reality, the moon is moving ever Eastward at an astonishing 2000 miles an hour! Half a mile a second! Four times faster than a jet aircraft flies!

That means that on the day the Moon is full, it is almost 50,000 miles away from where it was the night before. And, since it always travels East, it is 50,000 miles further away from the sun.

Result: On the day it is full, it rises later than on the day before, so compared to the day before, it is not as far above the horizon as it was the day before.

For more moon tidbits, check out my blog entitled "The Moon's big secret" on my MySpace page!

For fear of getting criticized for doing what I have accused others of doing and that is using the WOTD in a sentence instead of giving a meaning---Here are a few.
BLUE -
-colour between green and violet.
-person's skin who is having difficulty breathing.
- second lowest level of difficulty in a ski run.
-melancholy
-with sexual or pornographic content
-language marked by cursing or blasphamy.

I want to say hello to goldie and NowM!!

My computer is still sick and I am using Mr. Lynn D's. I wanted to send out some myspace messages this morning but I am very restricted on his computer! He will not let me go to the comment pages at all. I am lucky to be here. I swear I am going to quit doing all of his laundry including his underwear if he keeps up his pissy attitude about this.

I have been very busy this week with obligations and I am in the process of closing my Ebay store. So I want to thank everyone who has emailed me and sent comments about my being MIA. They were all a comfort! More than you will ever know!!!

I am home today but have a mess to clean up. I will try to check back off and on today.

Thank you Owl friends!!!

Tinkatia said...

Whabbear - Thanks for the science lesson. I am going to print it out and study it. I have often had discussions with people about the fact that when the moon is really full I don't see it until late in the night. I have never known the reason but now I can sound quite educated. Thanks again.

Good Morning Feathered Friends!!

SCIRSH - Congrats! (again!!!)

TINKA - Don't feel blue! Sorry I am always late with breakfast, but Dreama or Nowmercy are such great cooks, I know they will jump in and feed you. Pink suits you!

WHABBY - I like a man that can and will wear pastel shirts. And yes, the eclipse was amazing.

DREAMA - yummy breakfast...again! Thanks chef!

NOWMERCY - Your daughter sounds like an awesome kid...must take after her mom.

AMICUS - {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}} to you my friend.

ITEACH - fun topic. I am sorry to say this to you, but I am a purple girl. I have a couple of rooms in my house that are purple. I also have pale grey rooms. But a lot of purple accents in them. I don't wear a lot of purple for some reason, except for real rich deep eggplant colors. I mostly wear black.

Hi to all the owlettes that are posting while I write.

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I just saw your post. I have been waiting to hear whether you wanted to post it. I have been crying since I read your message a few minutes ago. I feel so badly for you but please don't blame yourself. As I said in my message I am sure God let her go to sleep before He took her across the rainbow. I went to sleep knowing you wanted her out of that clinic last night. I prayed so hard that she would be there in the morning. I am so sorry. I wish I lived closer so I could help.
Love, Tinka. I am going back to bed now. A little crying always helps.

iteach, ty for this topic of colors. As I was reading it I could only think of one story. When my 2nd granddaughter was born I took her sister (my first GD) to the store to buy her and her new sister a present. Clothes for the baby, a toy for her ~ so she didn't care. Then we saw these little rattles to put on the gift box and I picked one up in pink. Well my GD wanted me to buy this ugly green one for her new sis. I told her I thought her favorite color was pink and she told me, "I like all the colors, grandma." I think she was green with jealousy and it really struck me so funny how she insisted on buying the ugly green one (LOL).
The baby is now 17 months old and the jealousy is replaced with love. thank goodness!

Tinkatia:

I missed an important part of the story in that earlier post. Remember when I said that the Moon is 50,000 miles further away from the Sun every day? That's true only up until the time the Moon is full. Tonight, the day after full moon, its going to be 50,000 miles CLOSER to the Sun than it was last night, and will keep heading back in the Sun's direction until it becomes new. Note today that it also rises the usual 40 minutes or so later than yesterday, and will keep rising later and later in the night.

Fun, huh!

MO: THanks for the kind words.I think she's pretty neat too. And that reminds me, last night while we were watching the eclipse she turns to me and says something like "I'll bet that Bear guy is in heaven over this" and then she started laughing so hard saying "Heaven/the sky, get it? hoo haaa" and then she wondered if he was watching it with his husband. I love it when she shows me without even thinking or trying, that hope for inclusion is alive.

Okay..just a fly by. I LOVE the outpoauring of love for Amicus..I know we will have mercy and love for her until she can again. Such a hard situation.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Good Morning Owls! Hope you are all having a great week.

One of my favorite colors is periwinkle. I don't even think I knew this color when I was a child with the 108 crayon box. But everytime I see a color that really moves me, it turns out to be periwinkle!

I used to hate pink...hold on Tink, things have changed. When I had my daughter we put her in pink a lot! She was a bald baby, so it helped people to know her gender. The more I saw her in pink, the more I loved the color... and now I wear pink a lot and even have two pairs of pink Crocs.

We have assigned colors to our twins. We used to always put Ben in Blue, so people could tell them apart. Adam got whatever color was available in the same outfit. Well, somewhere along the way Adam decided that his color is Yellow. So luckily Ben still loves Blue because people look for that when they want to greet the boys by name. It has been really good for their identity because they rarely get asked "Who are you?" Can you imagine being greeted by this constantly?

OK... back to work for me. Wishing my cyber breakfasr was real!

RonnieGirl said...

Thank you iteach for an interesting offering for the TOTD.

If one really thinks about it, colors have played a major part in making our memories.i.e.

pink and white....colors of my bedroom as a little girl
red.......my favorite crayon as a child, and skinned knees
golden yellow....the prized Easter egg
black.....my shinny mary-jane shoes
green....sweet clover we sat in to make flower chains
purple....popsicles we dripped
turquoise...my neighbor lady's refrigerator
brown....summer mud pies
lavender...the smell of my grandmother
peach...my first lipstick
blue..... my first long formal gown
white....my wedding gown (probably needed a touch of red)
ecru & pink....my babies nursery
sand.....beaches explored
navy blue...the deep sea
Lastly, all the colors of contentment as I sit in my home while I grow older.

As for my favorite color, it would have to be shades of yellow to hot brilliant oranges as the late afternoon sun melts into the sea like butter.

Amicus - I had my little cry in bed for dear Fantine but my thoughts will be with you and her all day. Be kind of yourself today. Fantine could not have had a better life than being with you. I know how hard it is. Words really don't help yet.

Whabbear - Thank you for the second chapter. I will print that too.

Grandma Moses - I loved your grandchildren story. That is interesting that she picked the green one. Kids are so smart today.

K-Girl - So glad you are better. I am not at all surprised your favourite colour is green. When I think of Hawaii I think of many beautiful shades of green. Remember to order yellow sunshine when we all arrive there a year from now.

Lynn D - I am so glad you are back. I missed you.

It's a beautiful spring day here. The snowdrops and crocuses are everywhere. The sun is warm. Birds are singing loudly. It is a perfect day to play at the park with my 'fur-babies'. First I must get ready for the cleaning couple. Fortunately today that should only take a couple of minutes.

A Good Morning shout out to
Dreamatexas, Goldie, Maureen and anyone who hasn't posted yet. Have a great day.

Good question Iteach. I guess if I had to say a color dominated my life it would have to be black or navy. Being overweight I don't wear color. My wardrobe consists of grey, navy and black. Although I do have a couple cream color shirts. That's about as bright as it gets.

I think color has a lot to do with your personality. I keep to myself and look at the negative side of things. My personality is dark so I wear dark colors to match. My favorite color, though, is blue. And that's all I have to say about that.

Amicus I am very sorry to hear about Fantine. I am not a pet owner but I know how lose feels. Take care. ((((HUGS))))

Good Morning Glynis and Ronniegirl who must have been posting while I was writing.

Ronnie - You are another all colours girl. That makes you a well rounded personality.

Glynis - I love your twins story.
When I think of periwinkle I think of the tiny snails (should I say escargot?)that we used to eat when I was a child in Halifax. Has anyone else ever eaten periwinkles? My dad would boil them in a bucket on a fire at the beach. You eat them by lifting each one out of its shell with a pin. Maybe I should delete this comment as people are eating their breakfasts. But they were really tasty.

Back again owls.

Lovey this is for you!

This incident happened when I was a junior in high school.

I was inbetween classes had just finished study hall and left a little early to get to my locker and get the books I would need for the next class.

I went to a high school where the campus was pretty far apart so you normally had to hurry or carry all of your books.

So I went to my locker on the third floor of one of the buildings and the hallways were empty. I was trying to be quiet so I would not disturb any classes in progress. When I arrived I was really irritated because the crotch of my panty hose was sliding down to my knees and bugging the shit out of me. I opened my locker door and looked around to make sure no one was there and made a quick decision to pull up my panty hose real quick so I would not have to run down three flights to use the restroom for this purpose.

Well I proceeded to hike my skirt up around my armpits to hold it in place and started on one leg pulling and tugging gently from the ankle and then started on the other. I finally got the crotch back where it was supposed to be and dropped my skirt back into place. Then proceeded to get my books out of my locker for the next class.

As I shut my locker door I turned around and standing right across from me was my Freakin Science teacher with his arms crossed laughing his ass off and a big grin on his face!!! Evidently he had watched the whole process and show!!

I was mortified and embarrassed! NO not bared assed thank god I did have panties on under the panty hose!!

Later in the next class it dawned on me what a pervert!!! Also how was I going to get through his classes for the rest of the semester!

Well I just pretended like nothing had happened.

PS I got an A+ out of his science class for the whole semester! LMAO

It took me a few years to not remember this and get embarrased about it all over again! It did teach me finally the teachers were human too even if they were perverts!

I have never told anyone but Mr. Lynn D this story before!!

Thank you Iteach for the hugs!! Back at you!

My last comment of the morning.
Good Morning Shirley, I always wished I liked to wear black. It has been said that everyone should have one black dress because it is suitable for so my occasions. For some reason I can not wear it or grey. It takes down my mood. I need pink, yellow or some other bright colour to keep me feeling cheerful. Different strokes for different folks.

Good Morning Owlettes~ (well I consider this morning! :)

scirish~ AGAIN! you rock~ :)~

iteach~ great topic~ :) I used to love purple and green growing up, but now for some strange reason I love pink and brown....mostly brown. I don't know if it has anything to do with my race car driver (what can brown do for you?) or not, but every time I buy clothes, they end up being brown! I'm not a yellow person, but the two favorite rooms in my house are the living room and my bedroom...both are painted a shade of very soft gold....I feel such peace in both rooms~ there...did you feel it? I just did~ :)

Amicus~ It took my breath away when I read your post. I'm so sorry about Fantine. I'm positive she felt your love, so please don't worry. I will send Draco for her~ (and I'll tell him not to be scared of her....he's a fraidy-cat!)

Oh dear Lord~ I hit publish...and nothing....I forgot to sign in~ THEN I saw that Just_Lin submitted one of my comments....dang I have to watch what I say~ thanks lin :)~

Glynis, I also did not learn to appreciate pink until I had a girl. I already had two boys and she looked just like them at birth. So I would dress her in pink to distinguish her from her brothers.

However, she has the most beautiful blue eyes that now I love to dress her in blue!

I love to dress Philip in green, because of his eyes. Matthew is also in blue because of his big blue eyes.

Tina~ My eight year old stepdaughter wore brown & pink to the daddy & daughter dance last week. At the dance she told her dad that "brown" was the in color.

First of all, he laughed, because he couldn't believe his daughter talked like that.

Then he laughed again, because there were a lot of girls wearing brown dresses.

Amicus...I am so sorry for you and for your loss! Big, big hugs and good thoughts to you!

Goddess iteach...A very colourful topic...and a great one...thanks! I love all colours...the more the merrier. We (the three people that I am at a conference with right now) have noticed the geographical differences in colour...we are in the middle of this very large country and people at the conference keep commenting on how colourful we dress! We have decided that people on the west coast generally do dress in bright colours...maybe that is because rain gear is usually brightly coloured!!!!!!

Tinka...Hope you are having a pink day today and not a blue one!!!

Zona...your hubba hubba comment helped to warm up a chilly day! Thank you, Junior!!!

Whabbear...yup...I watched the eclipse outside in the very, very cold Ontario night..and was so in awe of it that I barely noticed the cold. It was amazing!!!!

Hope all the Owls are having a great (thong) Thursday!

I really do like pastels shirts on men though.

scirich..your choice of jewel tones decorate many homes with much beauty. Love em! I think it's very old world.

nowmercy..the warm colors are supposed to increase one's appetite and that's why so many restaurants use them. I like the home of the Wopper, myself.

lynn d..I bet that's the most popular color because it's nature.

Goldie..I agree with lynn d about your screen name. lol BTW, cutepie owl picture

Shirley..Sooooo how's that hangover? lol We missed you yesterday. As far as you liking black, every girl needs a little black dress or two. A string of pearls or a happy little scarf and you can go anywhere. When i think of black it brings to mind Audrey Hepburn and her gorgeous dresses.
Please smile and if you need help with that, please come here. You have a great sense of humor and everyone adores you. (Did you read yesterday's blog? That'll get you started with a smile, Hell, it'll make you pee in you pants.)

Good afternoon to all in-coming Owls.

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a great afternoon so far!

My favorite color use to be kelly green. I always thought I just gravitated towards that because I'm part Irish and love to look at the landscape of rolling green hills in Ireland. As I get older, I find that the color yellow always makes me smile. I don't know if that makes if a favorite or not. I also love periwinkle blue. But I wear a lot of red. Not very decisive am I? Good question ITEACH..I thought it would be easier to answer!

SCIRISH: Do we need to stage a 'first' intervention?? Congrats again! ;)

TINKA: Pink seems to suit you! I hope you are doing good today.

WHABBEAR: My dad had a pink shirt and cranberry colored tie he wore with a grey suit in the 70's...he also had a powder blue leisure suit. I always with-held my opinion. ;)

NOWMERCY: We missed the eclipse here, though I tried to see it. Too many clouds, and then a rockin' thunderstorm.
I have a question...is black a color, or is it the absence of color? My mom was an artist..but I am really not sure. I hate it when it is so dark you can't see-totally freaks me out.

LYNND: You are closing your Ebay store? What happened..forgive me if I missed this and you already explained it.

GOLDIE: OMG! Love the new picture!

AMICUS: I am so sorry to hear about Fantine! Please don't blame yourself. You did all that you could and Fantine knows that. She is romping in the grass right now with Rem..I just know it! {{HUGS}}

GLYNIS: Yesss..for periwinkle blue!

RGIRL: Great color list! And another for periwinkle!! The more I write it though, the more I wonder about the name. :)

VIG: Anything for you Auntie Nort!

ITEACH: You are the Goddess! :)

TINA: You feel a piece in your bedroom? Hell, good for you!! Paint all the rooms that color! ;)

Howdy OWLS!!

Iteach WTG fantastic blog!!
You have kick started my creativity today!!
Thank U so much.

Colours-Colors ---
(the day I start worrying about spelling and grammar here, please someone shoot me)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE them all!!
I love making my own colours in paint.
Mixing a bit of that, and wee dab of this.
Unfortunately, my O.C.D kicks in and I must have things that match in my house.
I would love to be free of that, and have every room different splashes and patterns.
This is the first house I have lived in, that I haven't put my palette on,but that is coming soon, since my recovery is going so well, I expect to be in a painting craze this spring.
I had my personal color palette done years ago, and I am a winter so I stick close to those colors for clothes.
Deep reds, blues, purples, greens and some soft pastels.Oh I could talk about this topic forever..hehe. sorry for the long post.

CONGRATS SC!! You're #1 WTG

Zona and others this explains why I am closing my Ebay store. The whole post refers to the new fees and rules that the New soon to be Ebay CEO is trying to implement. If you don't understand some of the terminology myspace me and I will explain.

What the board poster did not mention is that the fees that they so called cut is actually a 66 percent raise at the final sale of an item.

Sorry if any owls don't want to read this just scan over it!

Once upon a time....I called the office of the feeBay Mall to see about opening a store there. Here's the transcript of my side of the conversation

"Good Morning, I'd like to open a store at your Mall"

"Yes, I understand you are just a venue, that'll be great"

"You want my credit card number first so that I can register...well OK, here it is XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. OK, so I'm all set?"

"You want an up front fee for everything I bring into the store?"

"Ok, and then you want a cut of everything I sell, I thought you were a venue"

"Oh, you are just a venue, but then you want me to use your bank that's not a bank to process my customers' payments?"

"What? Sometimes I'll have to let the customer leave the store with the merchandise and afterwards you'll notify me that your bank that's not a bank is holding my funds for 21 days or until the customer calls in to say they like it. Is there anything else I should know?"

"As customers leave my store YOU will poll them to see what their reactions were - something called DSRs - and then you'll charge me more to sell my merchandise if they rate me me as merely good - 4 out of 5 DSR stars, anything else?"

"Oh, and you get to hang a RED BANNER warning my customers that I have problems outside my store if my DSR scores are only 4 out of 5, in other words merely what you call good? My goodness, is there anything else?"

"AND you'll place other merchant's merchandise in front of my store so that my customers see it first, and then my RED BANNER?"

"What else could your venue possibly do for me?"

"Oh, from time to time you'll let a deadbeat shoplifter come back in to slap me around in front of my other customers, and all I can do is say how much I liked it"

"I see. Let me get this straight, you are just a venue but YOU collect a fee everytime I offer something for sale, YOU collect a fee everytime I sell something, YOU REQUIRE that I process payments through your bank-thats-not-a-bank, YOU ask my customers how I did on your scale that they don't understand, YOU get to hang a RED BANNER in front of my store if my DSRs are merely GOOD, YOU get to place other merchant's wares in front of my store, and YOU will bring in shoplifters and deadbeats to slap me around with no recourse. Do I have this right so far?"

"OK, can you tell me what's in it for me?"

"Hello"

"Hello"

"Helloooooo"

"Anybody there?"

"What?, I can barely hear you, what? I have to supply my own Vaseline and smile too?"

Lynn D - I was already sick of trying to buy something from EBay because of the troubles I had with my password. You have convinced me to never even go on the EBay site again.

ZonaBaby - I will finish my letter to you as soon as my cleaning crew are out of the house. I can't think with his vacuum running. It is a powerful one.
That was a nasty thunder and lightning storm you had last night. I am glad you had your computer turned off.

VIG - I am glad you are enjoying your conference. I will be glad however when you get safely home. Wave to my Aunt Irene and cousins when you fly over Nepean, if your route takes you that way. She is 90 and so tired of the cold weather.

Ronnie - That's what I was telling Shirley. Everyone should have at least one black dress because it is so versatile. I just wish I could wear it. I don't have a single thing that is black. I am glad that wearing black is not necessary at funerals anymore or I would be in trouble. I have a navy suit and that's the close I can come to black. Well I must change out of my pink slippers and put on my pink spring jacket. It's time to walk my little white dogs.

Amicus - I will dedicate my walk today to Fantine. I will think about all my angel animals that must have met her when she passed through the light. God love the furry little baby.

I think my favorite color is black. Nothing like a black outfit with a splash of color!!! Now I have to agree with TINA in that I have for some reason gravitated towards Chocolate Brown (which looks fabulous with a touch of torquoise jewelry!!!) My Mom's favorite color was purple - and to this day that color has a calming effect on me.

Now to answer your other question - our wedding party was fabulous in fuschia (girls) and the men wore charcoal gray suits (with of course fuschia pocket squares) and black ties. Yes, this was 1989, and no small affair!!! We served 410 people dinner at our reception. You remember the 80's - the bigger the better!!! Just like my big ole mall hair!!!

AMICUS - ((((HUGS)))) to you. I'm sure Fantine is at peace now - and knew how you felt. Please be kind to yourself on this difficult day.

Well I am back but I stink. I went to the car wash and didn't make any oopsies there today at the self wash however and with my life there is always those "howevers" because I rush. I stopped and bought lawn weed killer, the type that goes onto your hose. I attached the bottle to my hose but I couldn't get it on tight enough due to the fact that I fell and hurt my elbow. Yadda, yadda. Anyhow my left arm doesn't have much strength. I was determined to spray my lawn even though one stream of water was gushing out of the hose on the side. Needless to say I managed to twist the hose and got sprayed up and down my jeans, my shirt and my face and hair. I have my clothes now in the washer and I must retoss myself back into the shower. Geez. So this is stinky Dreama signing out for now. :(

They also wore krenlin slips underneath - so yeah big fluffy skirts!!! At the time I luv'd it - and I still do!!! I really need to scan some of those pics!! I'm sure you would just die laughing!!!

ZONA - Just one question. Have you saved the brain cells yet?!!? Oh, and 2 out of 3 ain't bad!!!

JUST LIN - Luv your wedding pic!!! What a great backdrop for a wedding.

Maureen - I have been craving pork and apple sauce. Thank you so much. We really must get you, Dreama and Nowmercy on the pay role. You have been volunteers for too long.

Zona - This is Ms Tinka here not your mom. Yes black is the absence of colour and white is all the colours combined. Remember back in school when you did the little experiment where you had a circle of cardboard with all the colours on it? It had a hole with string through it. You would spin it round and round and then pull it tight. The cardboard would spin so fast it looked white. Good Times.

My daughter Cara dropped by with some cake made from my mom's cinnamon swirl recipe. She is the only one carrying on the tradition of making all the things my mom made. It is so sweet of her I think.

*********************************

I've been away from the nest today and just returned home to watch the debate. While watching, I'm catching up on email. Just now, I opened a monthly newsletter from an e-card purveyor to whom I subscribe, and what I found---because of its timeliness---gave me goosebumps. I feel compelled to paste it here, and dedicate it~~with love~~ to Amicus and Fantine:

God's Purr-fect Creation

When God created kitty cats,
He had no recipe;
He knew He wanted something sweet,
As sweet as sweet could be.

He started out with sugar,
Adding just a trace of spice;
Then stirred in drops of morning dew,
To keep them fresh and nice.

He thought cats should be soft to pet,
Thus he gave them coats of fur;
So they could show they were content,
He taught them how to purr.

He made for them long tails to wave,
While strutting down the walk;
Then trained them in meow-ology,
So they could do cat-talk.

He made them into acrobats,
And gave them grace and poise;
Their wide-eyed curiosity,
He took from little boys.

He put whiskers on their faces,
Gave them tiny ears for caps;
Then shaped their little bodies,
To snugly fit on laps.

He gave them eyes as big as saucers,
To look into man's soul;
Then set a tolerance for mankind,
As their purpose and their goal.

Benevolent ... and ... Generous,
He made so many of them;
Then charged, with fatherly concern,
The human race to love them.

When one jumped up upon His lap,
God gently stroked its head;
The cat gave Him a kitty kiss,
"What wondrous love," God said.

God smiled at His accomplishment,
So pleased with His creation;
And said, with pride, as He sat back,
"At last. . .I've reached purr-fection!"

Hi everyone!

Just flying by briefly on my way back to the recliner! Its been one of those days.

Between The Rainbow Bridge and God's Purrfect Creation, I am in tears!

Amicus, my heart goes out to you tonight. It doesn't seem like it now, but life will be beautiful again. It will take time, and just let the feelings flow.

No need to feel any guilt about last night. Fantine would not want you to. You loved that little fur baby with all your heart, and when her time came, you were with her in spirit, if not body. And really, isn't it the spirit that matters the most anyway?

Tonight there are many Blue hearts out there. May tomorrow bring Yellow into your world!

With love to all, DonnaJean

(still hacking and coughing and feeling miserable!) Get well everyone, I feel for all of you who are still sick with this horrible flu!

Here! Here!

Amicus, I just re-read your post, and I just wanted to let you know that I so agree with Just Lin. Please don't feel guilty over not being there when Fantine died.

I'm convinced that Fantine was not in fear last night, the way a poor human would, just because animals don't understand that they are going to die the way we do.

She didn't have the same need for your presence last night that a human family member would.

Her need for you came before last night. Actually, she had quite a few needs, like a human (you) who would enrich her life with gentle interaction, kindness, respect, and affection.

No. Don't feel guilty! Feel proud. Please.

Dreamatexas - I hoped you scrubbed and scrubbed that weed killer off your skin. That is so dangerous. I may forbid you to ever handle that again. I don't want you getting leukemia just for the sake of having no weeds in your garden.

Bon O - I loved the cat poem. Would it be presumptuous to ask if I could print a copy of that?

Ronniegirl - Anyone who could afford a gold or turquoise stove and fridge felt pretty rich. And how about the pastel bathroom fixtures. I think ours were blue. At the time, white seemed so old fashioned.

Tina - Speaking of white, everyone of my friends and I had white wedding gowns. How else did you prove you were a virgin when you got married? What a joke that was. A couple of girls who wore white gowns had "premature" babies 7 months later. Then there would be such whisperings. My how times have changed.

Jodi - I think that's great you are using your mom's recipes. As you said 'it was a pinch of this and a pinch of that'. Cara seems to be the only one in our family who seems to want to carry on the tradition of making all her own jams and pickles. She loves Mom's recipes.

K-Girl - Hugs back at ya. So happy you are feeling better.

Amicus - I haven't heard from you since this morning. I hope you are hanging in there. Try to sleep tonight. I know you didn't get much last night. I will say extra prayers for you and Fantine tonight.

Iteach - Thanks for the fun today. I am soon going to go to my room and watch "Dreamgirls" again. One day my daughter lay on my bed and said. "Mom there is so much pink in here". It wasn't a compliment as she loves green and with her red hair would never think of wearing pink.

If I am not back have a great time everyone. Love, Tinka

Geez, I almost forgot, Thanks for the daily blog today...

I really don't have a favorite color, however if I had to choose I would say fall colors or pastels...

I never was married so I did not have to pick out any dresses for bridesmaids to wear.

However I have been in 8 weddings and three times the maid of honor, each time buying a bridesmaid dress, all went in the garbage the very next day.

The last wedding I was in, I had to wear "pickle green" and let me tell you I looked like a pickle in a very tight jar!

Glad those days are over...

Yep thats me, Always the bridesmaid and never the bride!

Good evening,

Tinkatia~~ lol about those bathrooms. Remember those ugly bathrooms that were pink tile with burgandy trim? My grandmother had that with fuzzy pink bath mats. I thought it was ugly then as well as now..lol

Carol~glad you had a good time and hope you're feeling better. ...."pickle in a very tight jar"..lol lol

bono~~very loving poem. Thanks

Ronnie

Hi there,

Amicus, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I don't even know what to say... there have been some truly beautiful words said already.

We lost our Lilly 2 1/2 months ago and it is still so hard, I still cry when I look at her picture. I completely understand how you feel, and just picture Fantine is up in heaven playing with Lilly, Draco, Checkers, and all the others we've lost.

I hope you won't feel guilty for not being there, perhaps Fantine wanted it that way. Maybe she thought it would be easier.

Please know you have a lot of people thinking of you.

Whab the eclipse last night was awesome! It was clear and beautiful outside, a perfect viewing night!

My favorite color is blue, the aquamarine shade. It's probably cause I'm a Pisces, and love the color of the ocean.

MEK how are you holding up? Hope you're getting lots of pics.

scirish~~your disbelief about turquoise refrigerators made me feel so ancient. I vaguely remember when it was the 'new' hot color. Couldn't quickly find a fridge, but sent you the matching washer...Check your page!

Hey owls..
I just can't read the rest of the comments tonight...my eyes are bugging. I worked on a pain the freakin ass tax return today and wouldn't ya know it was for family, so I don't charge...arrrg

Just want to say....(cue sappy music) I really love this place! I work at home and sometimes missed the hubbub (is that really a word?) and companionship of being in an office. Now I just keep you guys "on" and check during the day to see whats going on. Hell, you guys are like therapy without the couch..Thanks...and Carol 'specially...(uncue sappy music)
Love you guys! Doesn't a beer get passed here?

Tina - And everyone probably will believe I earned that white dress too. I was so bound up with bubble wrap and watched so closely by my parents and the nuns there was no way of it being any different. Besides there was no way I was going to go to Hell when Heaven had streets paved with gold and multi jeweled crowns to wear.
I forgot to mention my sister was matron of honour dressed in pastel blue and my bridesmaids were gorgeous in guess what? pastel pink.

Pet lovers - I highly recommend that site Bon O suggested with the pet poems. They are beautiful. Thanks Bonnie.

Bono~~

They were the rage. lol
Did you see the bathroom tile post I made to Tink just a few comments up? Member that?

Tinkatia said...

Ronnie - I loved the fuzzy pink bath mats. I still have them in my 'fur babies' crates. They are cozy.

Just_Lin said...

scirish Actually, we do have a couch in here. :)

RonnieGirl said...

But the tile? did you ever see any of those bathrooms?

Bono, the reason you couldn't find a turquoise dryer is because they didn't make home dryers then...we had to help our mothers hand them on the clothesline. Ahhh the sweet smell of sheets off the line and those horrible stiff towels. Remember Mrs. Stewarts bluing for your whites.

We could take these "youngsters" on a really fun trip down memory...LOL

COLORS: Thanks iTeach for the topic!

Wedding~~It was Valentine's Day, so wedding party was full-length empire waist red/black plaid silk brocade with black velvet bodice, guys in black tuxes with red accents, me in white OF COURSE ;O) but with red/white piping on bodice and red/white bouquet (in honor of my debauched past?).

I'm adore seeing handsome men who are secure enough in their sexuality (regardless of their preference) to wear a crisp pink or lavender oxford shirt.........yummo!

My own wardrobe~~Takes a lot of self-discipline to branch out from various shades of blue. Powder, navy, aqua, teal, denim...some weird magnetic pull.

Home decor~~Except in two bedrooms, it's all about lodge like, country-muted jewel tones. My bedroom is a whole different vibe...all about the beach~~white sand colored carpet, everything else a powdery sky-blue, pale yellow, milky white, with beach-motif accents only (shells, beach and lighthouse paintings. It's an extremely difficult place to leave each morning. The guest room is very Zen spa-neutral-----ivory with muted golds and a touch of black.

OK, that was boring...just had to do my bit toward the TOTD. Shout-outs to all I've missed in passing today!

So I guess 8 is the lucky number!

We shall see :O)

I'm trying out a new owl for a while.

Bon'O said...

Ronnie~~Tried briefly to find the refrigerator for Scirish, but settled on the washer. BTW, Ronnie~~are you on MySpace? Oh, yeah, we could trip the light fantastic down memory lane. It's that whole era from before and just after I was born that I love to 'collect', even if it's only in photos and books.

scirish said...

uh oh...I remember clotheslines and stiff towels..my mom didn't have a dryer?? huh? the hell you say! AND there WAS pink tile in the bathroom..I AM old...

j/l if there is a couch, then I'm not wasting valuable work time chatting away....I am dealing with deep seated issues of lack of owl companionship...on an official couch!

Just_Lin said...

scirish If you want a blankie, we have those too.

Ronnie~~When I divorced, my first single-mom home was really nice, except for one thing...the master bath was all powder-pink tile with BLACK tile trim. PEEYUUUU!

G'nite Carol & iTeach.

Ronnie and Bonnie - We could talk all night about the good old days but this little old (but still kind of cute) lady needs her beauty sleep. LOL

Amicus - I just sent you my last picture comment for tonight. I sent you one early this morning but there have been so many, mine is already on page two. There are some beautiful comments. When you are feeling better you will enjoy them. Sleep tight my dear. Remember your little kitty has lots of company.

ZonaBaby - I just remembered I promised to finish my letter to you this afternoon. I will tomorrow I double promise. This has been a busy day.

Good Night Little Owls. God Bless. Love, Tinka
