LIFE IN SIX WORDS

by vig

Tuesday, February 12...I have been driving for days now. Driving to see family. Driving to see amazing students. When I travel I usually prefer to listen to talk radio rather than music. The miles go by quickly when listening to stories, discussions, interviews. In Canada we have something called the CBC, public radio whose US equivalent would be NPR. It is generally thought provoking, somewhat middle of the road politically and whose topics range from the ridiculous to the sublime. This afternoon while driving “down island”, I listened to Valentine’s love poems being created from six words. They were funny. Now that I am home, my over forty year old brain can’t remember what they were. So I head online to see if they can be found there. I can’t find love poems in six words but I do find lives in six words. An article from a UK newspaper encourages interviewees and commenters to “describe your life in six words”.

Some of the responses were:

-Live forever. So far so good
-Kissed the boys, made them cry
-Big family, endless demands, eternal joy
-Could have. Should have. Still might.

And when I though about it for myself today in this moment, I came up with four:

-Bags are packed, ready to go!!!
-Laugh, laughing, laughed, laugh, laughing, laughed
-Loved hard, lost much, no regrets
-Waiting for ships to come in

And now my Night Owl friends, I pass the torch to you and humbly ask you to write your life in six words! I look forward to reading what the open, honest and creative Owls will come up with!

First again? Wow!Good post Vig. I would have to say...

Stalled on the road to nowhere
Please help me make it through
Where did I go so wrong
Deep in a tunnel without light

I just got up so my brain isn't fully functional yet(don't say a word maureen, lol). Have a great day and enjoy the leftovers from yesterday unless someone else wants to cook.

Shirley(NCC-1701) said...

oops I guess I took too long typing. Congrats on first scirish.

scirish said...

morning shirley
we seem to be the only ones up

goldie said...

Good Morning scirish and shirley.

Congrats on 1st and 2nd ladies.

I have to give some thought to the six word description of myself. I usually can't be stifled with such few words! LOL

Ronnie- thanks for the cookies. I am going to get to see my grandbabies in less then 2 weeks- I am so EXCITED. There is nothing as wonderful as being someones grandma (IMHO). I enjoy them so much more then I ever did my own kids.(come on give me a break- every Nana feels that way, lol)

Holy Crap it is nasty out there. JODI be careful coming home today!
We had 1/4 inch of ice then sleet and now snowing, up to 10 inches.
This is a city of 200,000 and all churces have cancelled, the Metro is not running, everything is at a standstill. I mean it is nasty ass crap out there. My morning paper paper didn't delivered and that usually makes me very CRANKY. But I forgive today.

my life descriptions:

going to hell in a handbasket
happy to have the owl's nest
take me to Brynn and Gavin
Who me? I didn't do it
It is what it is, dammit

SCIRISH: Did you know your declaration of being first was six words?
SHIRLEY: Wow..that is really quick thinking for a not fully functioning brain! Is that how you really feel?
GOLDIE: Eww, sounds like some rough weather there.. where IS there anyway? Gotta be bad for churches to cancel.
RONNIE: Glad you left goodies..hope your grandkids snuggle, giggle, and say the bestest of the bestest kind of stuff to you!
VIG: GREAT blog...and six in numerology is actually the number for Love..interesting. I'll think on my six word groups. Hmmm.

morning nonmercy.

Here is Madison, WI. We are in the south central part of the state. So far we have had a record snowfall of over 80 inches of snow this year. CRAZY winter weather.

goldie said...

breakfast sounds yummy. I haven't had an omelet in a long time.

I made cinnamon rolls this morning, so I will put a plate of those on the breakfast bar as well.

Want2Sleep said...

Hello gang!

Goldie you are having record snow amounts and we are having record days below zero. Both are annoying. But, we are in Wisconsin, it's to be expected. Why? I don't know...lol

spring said...

GOLDIE: OMG, cinnamon rolls? Oh yum..warm, sweet, thick.

Sounds like Madison is really getting slammed.. glad you still have electricity and all..stay safe and warm!

The protein from the omelet will balance out the sugar rush from the cinnamon rolls...right?

Finger licking good cinnamon roll heaven

spring said...

WANT2SLEEP: Shall we send you some warmed rice bags scented with lavender and eucalyptus? Foot warmers? Maybe KGIRL could send some soft tropical breezes to you?

East Bay J said...

Good morning!

Congrats and good morning to Scirish for first today!

Good morning also to Shirley, Goldie, Now and of course Carol.

What a thought-provoking topic. My first response is:

Need coffee before brain can function

I will have my cup of java (and a mimosa, thanx Now) and give this more thought.

Thanx for the awesome breakfast Now! Yum.

Shirley a big hug to you, I am sad reading your responses. You always make me smile with your witty posts, and I feel bad knowing you seem to be hurting.

East Bay J said...

Sorry I missed Want2Sleep, we must have been typing together.

Good morning to you, too!

goldie said...

Hey Want! Was the question why are we in WI? Because I will be damned if I have an answer for that one. Hope you are feeling better today.
Are you going to get any of this delightful winter crapy today?

nonmercy, of course there is no calories in owl's nest food. I am the queen (of the naughty mat) and I declare it!

goldie said...

EBJ- I missed you because we were both typing. Waving a wing..

spring said...

Hey EB: You bet..enjoy. I felt sadness too and yes..lets send Shirleycnn-1701 ((((((((HUGS)))))))))

spring said...

Goldie..NO CALORIES..abolutely..and if you eat the full fare it will actually help you shed pounds magically. Hey, hope the naughty mat is warmed for you today.. seems like if you live in WI your naughty mat should be heated..

spring said...

lol abSolutely

goldie said...

Shirley, I think you shuld add:

iteach said...

MEK~ My husband works for Accenture!!!

He was talking about it last night with my brother-in-law.

As he was talking it started to dawn on me, that you two have been talking about the same tournament.

Not a huge golf fan, but my husband is!

Also, Accenture sponsers Tiger, so we have a lot of mugs in our house with Tiger's picture on them.

iteach said...

good morning, Goldie. We have a lot of rain going on right now. Do you have the rain too?

scirish said...

Nowmercy...LOL..No I didn't realize my post was six words..And here I have been racking my little brain!

Goldie..And I thought our weather was bad!

I'll have some of those no calorie buns please!

goldie said...

iteach, we had ice, sleet, rain, and snow, now we are raining again and then going to go to heavy snow. So far about 1/4 inch of ice.
EVERYTHING is closed, no church, no malls, no Metro bus service. Nadda.
Hoping that we don't lose electricity. At least our lines are underground and not on poles, but still...

Gee MEK- do you think CG will mind if I bring Mr. Goldie and she has to share a room???

goldie said...

passing the cinnamon rolls, and they are really good if I say so myself...

MEK in AZ said...

Iteach - that is GREAT - I own SEVERAL Accenture polo shirts, hats, jackets, etc. - I wear them with PRIDE!! Let Mr. Iteach know that I'm on Hole #1, green!!

Goldie - we have PLENTY of room - I'm sure CG won't mind!!

Ronnie - thanks for the cookies from earlier this am.

Nowmercy - thanks for breakfast - it's amazing that any of us can lose weight around here..

OH CRAP - the singing cowboy is out of the back porch - holy moley!!!

goldie said...

you need to hide in the weeds with a slingshot MEK. Get rid of the vermin in the neighborhood before i get there!

spring said...

LOL my Daughter and I were perusing (with me scanning first) today's entries and she points at GOLDIE'S owl and says
"Gosh the first I looked at that I thought it was a chiwawa (sp) sticking out of a cup!" Bwaahhaa, she meant it too and then was afraid to let me tell you cuz she didn't want to offend.

MEK..omg you must be having the time of your life!!

Hey ITEACH

MEK, would you offer ME a mystery guest too? Do I get to give you my specs for that? LOL

Okay, off to make real waffles for breakfast with kiddo. then she'll work on school projects (she will know more about Canada than the US by the time she's done) and I will start my tax prep piles..seems like I get the short end of the stick as SHE gets colored pencils and glue sticks for her project.

Okay gals and guys... FORE!

ibebold said...

Good Mornig OWLETTES!!!
I had to post before I read everyones responce so I wouldn't be influnced ..
The only thing I can come up with is:

Lucky to have lived through it!!!

Want2Sleep said...

NowMercy- warm rice bags sound very nice. Thanks. Several times I have checked airfares to go see Turtle/Kgirl, I am so tempted. She went to the Police concert last night and hasn't been heard from since. Or, was it that the Police went to her house last night,,hhmm

Mek- Is Tiger coming? I heard that somewhere? lol, I better return the pencils.

Goldie- No, I'm not feeling better , but thank you very much for asking. And, I refuse to pay $8.00 for a bottle of 3 ounce cough syrup at the little store near my house. I have other stuff I can take. Yes, I am stubborn. :-)

I am sure Bear is still running naked in the streets at his convention. I won't bother texting him, no where to carry his phone.

MEK in AZ said...

Nowmercy- have a great day!! and I AM having the time of my life!!

hey - that's one..

Having the time of my life!!!

IBB - good morning -

Goldie - LOL at the slingshot - SOMETHING needs to be done - Mercy!!!!!

goldie said...

LMAO nonmercy. I have been called worse, believe me. BAAAA HAAA HAAA at her offending me. Tell the kiddo it is ok, I kinda like the comparison.

Hi IBB- are you getting ready for the race???? Apparently my hubby is planning on watching. Not a huge fan of NASCAR, but we do watch. He has been to the Daytona race, so he really likes watching this one.

I forgot one little saying I always refer too;

life's a bitch, then you die
(cheery isnt' it?)

MEK in AZ said...

Nowmercy -have a great day--- thanks again for yesterday!! hugs

Want2Sleep said...

I have to laugh at all the users that type Mr and their screen name for their husbands. I started that with Mek oh so long ago....

Mek, what did you take to feel better with this crud?

Sorry Goldie, but you know Bear ! Or, BearNaked as I call him.

MEK in AZ said...

BRB - gotta fold a load of clothes and put the other load in the dryer... :-) (gotta have the good underwear for this week!!)

goldie said...

I love your owl nonmercy

I think that IBB and I could handle him no problemo.
I used to bartend. I'll tell you the story of me jumping (yes over) the bar, and physically throwing a guy out the door sometime.

Want2Sleep said...

Running from Goldie......

MEK in AZ said...

Want - I do remember - I was in chat one night and someone asked me what hubby's name was and I didn't want to say - and you said - we'll call him Mr. MEK and that started the ball rolling for everyone else!! He still LOVES it!!

and - there isn't anything to take for it..... I used alot of VICKS and cough drops... extra strength tylenol... mucinex is supposed to do wonders, but it gave me some bizarre side effects.

MEK in AZ said...

Goldie - and Mr. MEK didn't appreciate you strong arming him like that either!! :-)

Want2Sleep said...

Mek, don't laugh but I even took vicodin, yes, vicodin because it is used as a cough supressant. Okay, you can laugh.LOL And, Alka Seltzer cold, Contac Severe Cold, Aspirin, cough drops and nothing seems to help all the symptons. Oh, I didn't take that all at once....or maybe I did. Hmm, i can't remember. LOL

Say 'hi' to Mr. Mek, the cats and the end table and coffee table.

MEK in AZ said...

Good morning, VIG!!! thank you SO much for the Tiger pic!! i will do my best to get REAL ones - I just get SO excited thinking about it - I have to practice calm breathing techniques!! - like that's going to happen...

ibebold said...

So-- anybody needing Bouncers for their next party...looks Goldie and I are your Gals!!!

Want2Sleep said...

Thanks Ibb, I usually do take Nyquil but I ran out. It helps a lot at night. This is a really dry cough, I've never had one quite like this.

MEK in AZ said...

I'm sure my picture IS on the wall!! :-)
In fact, I probably WON'T be using that FIFTY percent coupon - OH and it just kills me!! but i really don't NEED anything...

goldie said...

Holy shit- our entire closet system, shelves and all just crashed to the floor! I thought someone threw a bomb into our house! Seriously, Mr. Goldie and I both yelped and jumped when we heard it.
So, I am off to go 'help" attach it back to the wall. It tore off drywall, it poked a hole in the backside of a door, holy shit this is going to be a mess. Mr. Goldie is pretty calm right now, but I have a feeling I am going to need to feed him extra brownies by the time this is all done!!

ibebold said...

Want2- LOL!!at michaels wall of fame...

Good Morning Owls!

VIG: Thanks for the thought-provoking topic! Love the 6 word challenge! I have tickets to see Avenue Q today so I need hop in the shower and get cleaned up, but I'll give some thought to my answer and post it when I get home.

Tinka: I haven't seen Hairspray yet, but I lo♥e Dreamgirls! When I saw it at the movie theater, people in the audience started clapping and cheering when Jennifer Hudson finished singing "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". She was fantastic! In my heart though, that song will always belong to Jennifer Holliday, the original Effie on Broadway. I also love Beyonce's song "Listen" which isn't on the Broadway cast recording so I bought the movie soundtrack too. :)

Owls: Waving Hi and wishing everyone a fun, relaxing Sunday!

MEK in AZ said...

OMG - Goldie - hope everything is alright -

If that had happened in my closet and I was in there - I would be dead!!!!!!

Okay - funny story about Michael's

On Thursday, I went to the old store that I used to live near - I walked in and the manager (who is the neatest guy and doesn't hurt that he's extremely good looking) anyway - he said "you are a sight for sore eyes, my volume is down"!!! Gotta love it!!!!!!!! We had a nice chat and I only spent FOUR dollars!!!!!! i own it all!!!

Closet story - the house we purchased was the model home - we moved in - put all our stuff in the closets and EVERY room - the shelves caved in - stuff EVERYWHERE - well - when the closet shelves were installed - they just did it half ass'ed, cuz "nobody was actually living here" - WELL, DUH - eventually someone WAS going to live here... good thing nothing was broken, but what a pain - and YES, the noise is deafening when they crash..

SO - I'm feeling Goldie's pain - I'm sure she wishes she was HERE right now..

Hi to everyone that has posted already!

My six words...

I'm starving, thanks for breakfast ITEACH

The naughty mat's where it's at!

Thanks Carol for creating our nest.

Once a crackwhore, always a crackwhore.

VIG - What a fun topic of the day!!

Gonna eat and I'll be back later.

MEK in AZ said...

Hey, Weenie's in the house!!

whabbear said...

OK, that was the six worder. Now, have read all today's comments!

Sleep, I didn't know you introduced the MR (handle) convention! I've always loved it... especially when it gets exotic, like "Mr ToniLovesDolphins" !! LOL!

Sleep and MEK: I did NOT get naked at the Lone Star yesterday! However, I did take a hit of pot (just one) that still produced an unusually intense state of intoxication!

Today: We haven't decided what IBR activities will be graced (cursed?) with our presence today... we just know that some of them will! ;)

BTW, I cracked up a couple of days ago at "The Notorious VIG"! Honey, I think you are "TN-VIG" for me forever more!

Too bad that's not six words!

Have a great Sunday Amicus and all the owls!

MEK in AZ said...

Whabby - glad you survived... it's that infamous ONE hit that will do ya!! (remember bearclaws!!)

My Life Unsolved Mystery to Me.

Ok I go to read comments from yesterday and you go crazy and start marching to 100!! Geez

Wants2sleep: Feel for you. This is the worst crap!! The only thing that helped me when I was really coughing. 2 or 3 ibuprofen and two Benadryl. It let me sleep for a couple of hours at a time. I agree with MEK wait until you are harking and coughing up chunks. It feels like a hairball forcing it's way up!! I am still dealing with that.

Goldie: Lifes a bitch and then you die! Seems this is my Dad's family motto! LOL

So much to catch up on this morning I will flap my wings at all and stomp my long chicken/owl legs!!!

Lynn D said...

OOps A day late and a dollar short everytime!!

Sorry to reintroduce the coughing crap!!!

Want2Sleep said...

Thanks Lynn, I'll get out the benadryl. I'lltry anything.

Before I believe Bear, I need to see the police report frin San Fran.

Question for all of you that have been here a long time. Why do I keep getting a security warning that alerts me that there is secure and non-secure info on this site. I get it everytime I post, refresh, sigh on and whatever. Why?

MEK in AZ said...

i believe that Bono addressed that in the archives and told us how to fix our settings to get rid of it - cuz it happened to all of us.

It makes the mucous thinner, less goopy and less of a happy bacterial, viral haven. It also reduces coughing because it is, well, uh, less, goopy. (Goopy is a very technical medical term, and if you never watched ER or Marcus Welby you are not certified to use it..oh, maybe General Hospital counts too) Seriously..try it! You do have to take it with a full glass of water or it is useless. Also, Robitussein D is helpful..it has immediate release guifinisen (like in mucinex) and a cough suppressant.

Steam, steam steam..good luck kiddo..

Thanks NowMercy. If I just felt a little better I could go to the store and stock up on some of this stuff.

Wish I could send you some WANT!

WHAB: Okay, I'll ask, what is the convention you are at? Glad you are surviving and enjoying too.

Want - I found the instructions - here they are!!! and YES, it was Bono that helped us all out.

Good day Nightowls & Morning Doves!! So good to see our beloved stragglers found their way. Can't stay but wanted to share a tip for those on Internet Explorer about to shoot their screen over the annoying security lockbox. This is way easier to DO than to describe :o) ....................

If you're on Internet Explorer:
1. Go to 'Tools' on IE
2. Click on 'Security'
3. Select "Custom Level"
4. Scroll down to 'Miscellaneous'
5. Within Miscellaneous, find subsection for 'Display Mixed Content'
(this is for Secure/Unsecure, i.e. text AND photos, etc.)
6. Set 'Display Mixed Content' radio button to 'ENABLE'
(default is 'Prompt', which is what causes the lockbox to come up every time)
7. Click on 'Apply' at the bottom of that IE controls window.
8. Close Internet Explorer to get the change to 'take'.
9. Reopen Internet Explorer, sign back into the blog, & you'll no longer get the lockbox, and will be able to see profile photos, etc.

At least this is what worked for me. If it helps anyone else, it'll make my day!

Hope this works for you...

Want2Sleep said...

Okay Mek I will give that a try,,,thanks so much.

Oh my, it appears that my 'help' to Mr. Goldie is not so much appreciated. I was told that since urgent care is closed due to our weather, perhaps I should just stay out of the room....lol

I just talked to Jodi a little while ago. She is at work and it is awful outside. Keep your fingers crossed for her getting home safely~! I told her to post when she gets there.

Ok, off to sort thru my clothes. What a way to de-clutter!

MEK in AZ said...

Goldie - I had to laugh - you sound like the parent telling Jodi to post when she gets home...

but seriously - we will pray that she gets home safely!!

and i pray that my closet shelves don't fall - it would take me MONTHS to go thru all those clothes...

NowMercy: It's International Bear Rendezvous (IBR), one of the biggest of the annual "bear runs" in the country! About 2000 big furry guys and their "admirers" have descended on San Francisco for the weekend.

Tonight the big event is the IBR dinner, featuring the crowning of "International Mr Bear", "International Mr Cub" etc., all beauty pageant-like competitions complete with judges.

I have never been to the dinner and competition... I can't imagine anything sillier, actually... but the bars are hopping all over town, all weekend long!

Good Morning Owls - There are too many in the forest this morning to name them all.

Scirish - First to post and first to write 6 word life lines. Good for you.

VIG - Great post. The trouble is my head isn't working well this morning.

My life consists of - (in ascending order of importance)
--Dolls, bears, cat, dogs, grandchildren, mother.
--Loving Thomas, Traci, Tango, Tia, Teddy.
My life motto is
--Taking each moment as it comes.

Goldie - I hope you didn't have anything valuable and breakable on those shelves when they fell.

Amicus - I received 3 DVD's for Valentine's Day. Last night I decided to watch "Georgia Rule" because it fitted so well with the topic of the day. Wow there was a dysfunctional family if ever there was. Today I am going to watch "Hairspray" and "Dreamgirls". I will report back tomorrow.

Nowmercy - I am going to choose from that array of breakfast goodies.

VIG -I am going to see Mother. I can't stop thinking six words.
Looking forward to your call today. (See, I am still doing it)

Godd Morning Everyone! Happy Sunday to all!

What a coincidence about the Blog for today. Yesterday morning, on a local TV show here in the San Francisco Bay Area they talked about that book, and read many of the quotes. Some were funny, some sad, many very interesting. I was thinking myself that it would be a good topic for the OwlsNest! Good job VIG!

Here are mine. At least how I feel today. Maybe tomorrow they would change.

Loved, Laughed, Cried, had Children/Grandchildren

Lived a Normal Sometimes Exciting Life

Lived an Exciting Sometimes Sad Life

Have Lots of Friends At OwlsNest

All Of The Above Plus More

I have enjoyed reading all of your thoughts. It's amazing what we all come up with, isn't it.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRUNCH NOWMERCY!!!! Sunday Brunch is my favorite, they keep re-filling my champagne glass!!!

I will take a Bloody Mary to start, with an egg white omelette with mushrooms, onions, red and yellow peppers, swiss cheese, and if you have some tomatoes and spinach that would be perfect! Oh, and a side of bacon, crisp please! Thank you so much!!!

I have been reading the Blog almost every day, just not commenting. Each day they make me think, cry, or just laugh!

Yesterday, I felt so much love out-pouring from everyone about their parents. Even when the parents can be such "pain's in the butt's"! That is where my father was. A real pain. But, now that he is gone, (it's been 11 years now) I sort of miss his attitude, his grouchiness, but he had such a sense of humor! You could always count on him for a joke or two. And I am so sorry he never got to meet his great-grandchildren. For all his grouchiness, he sure did love my girls, especially Miss Laurie! She held a special place in his heart.

So, I don't have parents living anymore. I just hope that when my time comes for my children to take care of me, that I will not be cranky, grouchy or a "pain in the ass"!! That's why I try real hard now to be a loving Mom and Grandma, because my life will be in their hands!!!

I hope you are all feeling much better, and that this awful Flu isn't attacking you all. Laurie is still sick with bronchial pneumonia. And is on anti-biotics. At least no hospital stay this time. We HAVE to get her well, so we can concentrate on the heart surgery!

Anyway, I think my omelette order is just about ready, so I better go eat it while it's still hot! My compliments to the Chef! Oh, may I have another Bloody Mary too?

Enjoy the day, and for those of you with blizzards (my sis in Iowa said it was going to blizzard today) try to stay warm and cozy!

Love and Peace to all my lovely Owlettes! DonnaJean
