Sleep?

today our daily blog
is from Shirley(NCC-1701)

it is amazing how our minds work!

Sleep

by Shirley (NCC-1701)

Why is it that you can never remember what you need to remember when you need to remember it, but as soon as you lay your head on the pillow it all comes flooding back? Does anyone else lie awake at night wondering if that stain will come out or maybe the next time you make chicken you will try this side dish instead of that? Maybe I'll try that cleaner in the bathroom next. Why, at 1,2,or 3 o'clock in the morning do I even give a s..t. My mind seems to think it is important. Too bad we didn't have a remote control to mute the voices! Sometimes I am awake for an hour thinking of the stupidest stuff.

Does anyone else have that problem?

Have a great day!

mary/mi~~ Congrats on "This Owl Said".

Shirley fantastic blog. I have been thinking these exact same things.
My mind won't shut off when I lay my head to rest.
I get so frustrated I get back out of bed. That is how I became a NIGHT OWL.
When or if u find that remote, please share with me, so I may use it on my mind too.

Oh yessssss....how well I know that little exercise...only I think about all the things I don't want to contemplate, like how is the downturn in the economy going to affect us and other such problems. Then I get more wide awake...It's a vicious circle

iteach said...

Guess what Shirley, I'm weird.

My husband times me every night and Within two minutes I am snoring.

I worry nonstop during the day. I drive my hubby crazy with all that I worry about.

But then as soon as I hit the pillow, I'm out. No idea why.

Then there is my husband who never worries, but can't sleep. He has taken medicine, seen specialists, and counts sheep. Poor guy!

Shirey..Yes, I get the same cycle..I believe the mind is like a computer..constantly referring to the past to predict the future and in the meantime, missing the PRESENT! I feel lucky to have a mantra I use to go to sleep..it gives my mind something else to be fascinated with..although sometimes I do find myself thinking AND using the mantra..the multi tasking mind. Sometimes I forget..I am the one in charge of my thinking and not the endless loop, uninformed, habitual mind.

BTW..did you get the stain out..I need to know..

Lovey..congrats on #1
Mary/Mi- I agree
Scirish- I call it the hour of the wolf (with all due respect to the wolf.)

Congrats on first lovey.

Shirley, sometimes I actually think that my brain doesn't kick in and start working UNTIL I get into bed to sleep! I never sleep well, even with sleep aids. I think way to much. My bigger problem is waking in the night and then not falling back to sleep because my little mind is a whirling dervish.

Good morning to scirish and nonmercy and iteach too. How much snow did you get iteach? We ended up with 13 1/2 inches here.

Sandie said...

Thanks for the breakfast, nowmercy!

Yes, Shirley, I do that, too! I am usually worried about the kids and stuff that they have going on but often I am rearranging my family room or repainting the office or something crazy like that. My husband says I should be an interior decorator. LOL

Hi Lovey, Scirish, iteach and nowmercy! My kids get out of school early today so I'd better go get some things done.

Have a great day, everyone! It's sunny and 63 here today.

Hi Goldie!

Tinkatia said...

Lovey - Good on you. First on both. I was going to say 'spoken or done without preparation' but yours is much better.

Good Morning also Scirish, iteach and nowmercy. Thanks for the breakfast. I have too much to do before I eat but I will be back.

I used to have that problem of things racing through my head. It was particularly bad when I was teaching. I now have a system that works for me. I get into bed at ten with the lights out and every thing done for the night - like locking up and putting the cat in his bed in the kitchen. Then Tango gets in her bed beside mine and Tia and on my bed and I put on a soothing DVD movie. It will be one I have seen many times before so I don't have to watch it to the ending. I set the T.V. and DVD to 90 minutes and I am always asleep before it ends. In the morning I can remember which part I saw last so I know exactly when I went to sleep. This has worked for me now for ten years. I used to try and convince my sister to try it because she was awake all through the nights making lists and planning parties. My way didn't appeal to her so I guess we all have to find our magic trick.
Have a great day everyone.

Tinkatia said...

Goldie - good morning. I missed your name, sorry. That's a lot of snow. Send us about 4 of those inches so we can have a change from the wind and rain.

Shirley, cpgem8, and the owls:

Can I beg your indulgence with a re-post of a little religious essay from Area 51? I didn't get it finished until very late last night!

Good evening, Owls!

I have loved reading everybody’s religion stories today! I respect all religious beliefs, and all who hold them. My ONLY exception to that statement is in regard to the belief that the nature and history of the universe is contained, in a very literal sense, in a religious text, as opposed to the picture that has emerged from scientific inquiry.

Let’s take the Bible, for example, since it’s the religious text I’m most familiar with. If the Bible is a literal account of both natural and human history, as many believe it is, then I’m afraid God is perpetuating a rather massive fraud.

An almost infinitely clever fraud, one which would raise interesting questions on its own, but a fraud nevertheless.

Let me explain. Many biblical scholars have analyzed the amount of time that’s passed from Genesis to the present day, and I think it adds up to about 3600 years. Not one year older. Not one year younger.

Now, it is well established that light travels at a speed of around 180,000 miles per second, or 6 trillion miles per year. By convention, that distance is a light year. If the universe is only 3600 years old, then light from other places and objects in the universe has had a maximum of 3600 years to travel through space; that's the absolute upper time limit. If there are objects emitting light that are more than 3600 light years away, their light must still be speeding toward us. Since that light hasn’t had time to reach us yet, these objects should still be invisible.

As it happens, light has some fundamental characteristics that relate directly to the distance that the light has had to travel to reach us, or, put another way, the distance from us to the object that emitted the light. Brightness is the most obvious property; objects nearby are brighter than objects further away. There are plenty of stars who are exactly as dim as they should be if they are 3600 light years away. And obviously, there are also millions of stars that are brighter than that, simply because they are closer than 3600 light years away. In fact, the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is so bright that it must be only four light years distant.

So far, there’s no problem. But here's the big rub. In modern telescopes we can see, not millions, but trillions of stars, and billions of galaxies, all so incredibly dim that they have to be further away than 3600 light years. You can’t get around this simple fact. Some stars are so dim that they must be hundreds of thousands of light years away. Others, millions of light years away. Still others, billions of light years away. And the further out you go, the more stars we’re talking about.

How can we be seeing all these stars and galaxies, if the universe is only 3600 years old? Their light should not have been able to reach us yet. But for those who take the bible literally, it gets even worse. Remember my blog on “Rob, the magic elastic”? Another important feature of light, that offers another powerful clue to the distance of the object that emitted it, is how much the light is “stretched out” by the time it reaches a telescope. The further away objects in the universe are, the more their light stretches out while it is traveling towards us. This is because, over time, the universe is itself stretching out, and when the very universe stretches out, everything that’s a part of it (and light is very definitely a part of it) stretches out too.

By measuring how much the light from different objects (like galaxies) is stretched out by the time it gets to us and our telescopes, astronomers can measure the distance to these objects. Just like calculations based on brightness, distances to some objects turn out to be millions of light years, others billions.

The only way to make sense of this “stretching light” evidence is that the light from the most distant objects in the universe has traveled literally billions of trillions of miles, truly epic journeys that have spanned billions of years, growing ever dimmer and more stretched out as the journey progressed.

Could this all be reconciled with a universe that’s only several thousand years old? Yes, but only with the following bizarre scenario. If the universe really is just 3600 years old, then 3600 years ago, the light from all of these billions of billions of objects, that we think are further away than 3600 light years, instead must have originated from the inner surface of a gigantic sphere, centered on the Earth, whose radius is exactly 3600 light years. In other words, the flow of light from these objects must have started their journey from the same inner surface, and covered exactly the same distance, as the light from objects that we think, from analyzing the characteristics of their light, are genuinely 3600 light years away!

But this is an amazing and awesome concept! At the time of the universe’s creation, all the stars that are closer than the surface of this hypothetical sphere had light that wasn’t tinkered with even a little bit. When light from a star, say, 1000 light years away reaches us, it does so with exactly the loss of brightness we’d expect from something 1000 light years away. That goes for everything, right up to and including stars actually 3600 light years away. No “retouching” of their light has occurred.

Not so for all the billions of objects (stars and galaxies) that exhibit qualities consistent with them being farther away. For them, someone or something would have had to very carefully tinker with the characteristics of their light, reducing its brightness and stretching it out, before allowing it to set out on its journey. The net result of this very precise and very select tinkering would be a universe that appeared to be much larger and much older than 3600 light years, but really is not.

Why would God do that? Why would God go to such lengths to trick and mislead us into thinking that the universe is much vaster and older than that? Why would he choose to hide the true nature of the universe behind this colossal facade?

If the Bible is a literal history book, then God is perpetuating a massive fraud, and the joke, my dear owls, is on us!

OK, now on to today's blog. Shirley, whether my mind races or not seems to depend on whether or not it wants me to sleep. When I travel East and get jet-lagged, I'll turn out the light any my mind will just jip from one concept to another, forcing me along for the ride until it finally tires and allows me to slip into slumber.

At these times, my mind has a mind of its own!

But wait! What does it mean when I use the possessive, as in "my" mind. How can "my" mind have a mind of "its" own? Aren't "I" part and parcel of "my" mind?

In a freshman philosophy course I took, back in the day, they made us write a little essay on what the following statement really means:

"My body is aching and my mind is confused".

It really made "my" mind think! LOL!

spring said...

Whabby..how do you do that..my ears would fall off from the heat of the thinking. Did you finish this while trying to fall asleep. I want to study your post for awhile, and my immediate response is an amazed "Whoa.." followed by some intense pondering.

Whoa..have a cup of decaf bud...

goldie said...

Hi Sandi and Tink. Tink, I would be happy to send it ALL to you.
So would the people in the 800 cars stranded on the interstate near here yesterday. Can you imagine sitting in your car for 12 hours in a blizzard?

Whabbear, I read your post early this morning, then just again now. Very interesting.

Nowmercy, I can not remember the last time I had a bagel with cream cheese and lox, but I love them!

spring said...

Goldie: better get ya some now then!

Whabby: In the Buddhist system, mind is referred to very often as "the mind" rather than the possesive. Doing this often truly "blows the mind" and makes the patterns stop. hmmm.

Tinkatia said...

Wow Whabbear - That is quite an essay. One that leaves me without an answer. I guess we believers just go on one word, "Faith" and move on. I couldn't even begin to comment on your eloquent question. You are a true scientist. Good Morning to you by the way.

I came back to the blog to clarify what I had said about "getting to sleep and staying asleep". My trick works for me on normal nights when my mind would be planning the next day's activities or a birthday party. It does not work if I am really worried or upset about something. Then I maybe able to go to sleep or maybe not but I definitely wake a dozen times and nothing works then. Putting on the light, getting up for some warm milk may help but usually I just have to resign myself to a sleepless night and a very tired following day. That exasperates the problem because when you are tired you worry even more. I will be watching for hints from the bloggers. Right now I will have that breakfast nowmercy.

Lynn D said...

Ooooh that lovey! 1st again. I don't think she ever sleeps!!

And she has the word of the day too! Geez Do you live on Red Bull??

Shirley: I have what I call my witching hour about 3:00am. I can fall asleep but staying asleep that is the trick. I tend to wake up and worry. Worry about my kids, Worry about the house needing painted. Oh and then there is the roof!! The friggin wind storms this year have wreaked havoc on our house!!!

When I get through that cycle I find new things wo worry about! Sometimes the exhaustion from all of this wears me out and I sleep again but most of the time I figure I am up and daylight is a few hours away so I might as well put the coffee on.

I do not worry about stains!!! LOL

Tinka: I go to bed and turn on sitcoms. For some reason the laugh track puts me to sleep. Usually Mr. Lynn D comes to bed and turns it off. I think this might be my trigger to wake up! LOL

iteach: I envy people who can just fall a sleep and stay asleep!

Nowmercy: Thanks for breakfast! I know when you cook we will eat healthy! I have tried mantras. they don't work for me. My brain just laughs and heads in another direction to play!

Whabbear: Read your post with interest. My comment is that God would not do that. Like all things written and copied they are done by flawed human beings that throw in their own interpretations. Usually because it does not jive with their own concepts or because they think that the rest of us have tiny minds and can't wrap our brain around an idea.

My other theory is that like all stories things are passed down and details are lost or exaggerated to make the interpreter look good. Then it is taught for decades or centuries and to many becomes the excepted truth or dogma if you will.

Since you use the word God. God gave us all a mind to use how we see fit and therefore expects us to define and interpret in our own context. So that we can decide what we believe and what we think should be challenged.

I could go on and on but I have been doing these long posts and I am starting to even bore myself. Sorry Owls!!

Flapping a wing at you early owls, Goldie, Scirish, and Sandie!!

Hello Feathered Friends!

Congrats ♥LOVEY♥ on being first and the WOTD!

SHIRLEY, what a pleasant surprise to see your TOTD entry. Good job!

My mind starts racing as I attempt to crawl into bed. I shut off the lights, head upstairs, look at the bed and a trigger is set off! Did I do this or that, did I put that away, where is whatever...then it's back downstairs. Maybe an hour later I finally make it into bed. Why didn't I think of those things earlier? LOL
Then I lay there and think and then stress about why I am not sleeping, so I lay awake longer!!

LYNN, your posts NEVER bore me!
But then again, I am strange!! ;)

Mmmm bagels, cream cheese and lox! NOWMERCY, thanks for breakfast!

WHABBY, wow, I will be thinking about that as I lay in bed tonight!!

SCIRISH, GOLDIE,ITEACH, SANDIE, TINKATIA - - hello!!

Morning all!

Way to go on the blog today shirley. Now I can't stop thinking!

Congrats on 1st today ♥lovey♥

and the new congrats....Congrats on the quote of the day mary!

Whab.....Thank you so much for the post. I actually read it in area 51, but it was a good read so I'm glad you reposted it in todays.

Goldie....Lynn can't be your split personality because she is mine!

As for todays topic, I used to have that same problem. It would take me hours to fall asleep, or I would fall sleep for a half hour and then be awake for an hour, fall sleep, and wake up in half an hour again. I figured out that since my hubby CAN NOT sleep without the tv on, it was keeping me awake. The light from the tv would be flashing in my eyes. Yes even closed eyes could see the flashing of the tv. And no matter how low I turned the volume down, I could still hear it. So now I sleep with an eye mask and earplugs. OMG I fall asleep with-in minutes of my head hitting the pillow now! It really was a miracle for me. I had seriously not slept for years. I think that the light from the tv kept stimulating my brain and it could not shut off for the night. So that worked for me. Not sure that it would work for anyone else.

goldie said...

Ok, everyone breath deep because the shit is hitting the fan again. I read the comment on the Ross blog.

I am pretty sure that no one could go in and delete someones myspace page anyway, but I in no way believe that you 3 ladies did any such thing. I am sorry for any trouble this is going to cause you.

Bear- I just wanted you to know that I am a proud fag hag and always will be!!

Lovey: GM. #1 and TOTD, yay for you.

Good morning also, Carol, Shirley, scirish, iteach, mowmercy (thanks for breakfast), goldie, sandie, Tinka, Bear, and Lynn D.

nowmercy: Good use of the WOTD.

Tinka: my bedroom TV does not have a timer, but when I get a new TV for the bedroom, I will try your system.

Bear: I loved your insightful post, although I had to read it twice, and it really boggles my mind to think about how old the universe is. I also agree with Lynn D. about using our mind and free will to determine what we believe and what we believe should be challenged.

Shirley: Great topic. I too, wish we had a remote control so we could turn off our minds to easily go to sleep. Of course, I also used to wish for a remote so I could turn off my kids and sometimes my husband, but alas, that was not to be either.

Shirley: It is crazy what they are charging! I feel for your Mom! I guess I should not complain because in March we usually turn the furnace to off and then don't need any until about October. I really get mad at the fees they just keep tacking on.

Nowmercy: Did I say how much I love you! Thank you.

Okay, this is funny . . . and sad. And I would never want to hurt my sister's feelings . . . so don't tell her!! But, in the past my Mom and I have seen things we've given her (even pretty recent gifts) listed on her store!! We both decided we would no longer give her anything she could sell. I wasn't as upset as Mom because I'm just more laid back than that, but it did make me think that she would just prefer money or a gift certificate so that's what I buy her now.

Shhhhhhh .....

Good morning and forgive me for I have not read today's blog or many comments between Wednesday to now.

Whabby, I wanted to respond to your post yesterday because I really do like things that make me go, "hmmmmmm". In my bible study groups we were always taught that the bible (Bible?) was not a literal history book. We were taught that it's a book about God and man and God's relationship to man. We were also taught that in the many translations that were made as this book was passed along, it can't possibly be 100% literal. I think of the telephone game we played in school and the way the message changes as it travels from one person to another. I, too, appreciate each person's point of view when it is presented to me logically and respectfully. Thank you so much for your helping me understand yours!

Just_Lin, did the earthquake this morning wake you up? My dogs barked, hubby sat straight up in bed, and I sort of drifted into consciousness as the rattling of the dresser subsided. Oh, and if you need help getting motivated to work on your scrapbooks, I know a great bunch of ladies that crop together in Pacifica. There is a get-together planned for March 8th. You aren't on myspace, right? If I'm wrong about that, send a friend request to me (outatuune) and I can give you more info or you can email me privately. Can we give email addresses here? Try pfranson @ gmail . com

Okay, I'm going to try and go back and read now. I'm curious about the cryptic myspace status updates I'm reading.....

Cheers!
Caryn ... off to Reno in 2 days!

LOVEY - Congrats on first AND the word of the day!!! You little smarty pants!! :D :D

SHIRLEY - Great blog. By the time I get to lay down at night, I usually don't have a problem falling to sleep. We do have the tv on - the background noise doesn't bother me - as a matter of fact, if its off, it's just too damn quiet!! The only problem I have is that I'm lucky to get 5 hours of sleep at night - so my afternoon cat nap time is very important!!! If I get about a 20 minute "power nap" - I'm good to go for the evening.

KGIRL - Mai tai's? Make mine a double!!!

ITEACH - So glad that your neighbor helped blow your driveway. How much did you pay him?!!? :D :D I'm hoping the 12 pack did the trick!!

I was always a good sleeper, and than I hit 40 and boom, I was wide awake at nite. My mind kept going in different directions, even tho by body was tired, my mind was not.

It was getting so bad, I went to my dr, she prescribed ambien, I take 5mg a nite, which works for me, it calms me, and I sleep!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, I am so glad you took the plunge. Great Topic

The house shook the wind was so strong. I might take me a quick nappy poo!

Mmmmmmmm... some of that pot roast sounds yummy though!

Whab~ Did you really think that some of us take the Bible literally? Why would I take anything word for word when it has been translated, rearranged and in some books~deleted~ by a bunch of men? My pastor even had a discussion with us and we DO believe in all the science stuff (evolution, dinosaurs, ice age...) and there IS room for all of it in the Bible. For goodness sake, God kept taking "do-overs" so we know it is possible! How about you? Are you prepared to believe in **gasp** miracles?

So, when I can't keep my eyes open to watch the TV, I have the scanner on to occupy my mind..Hate when it is too quiet. I've tried to do without it, and I'm usually awake for hours. Drives me nuts.

Shirley ~~ good to see you back not only posting but blogging! Hoping your new job is a happy adventure.

Ah, sleep....one of my favorite things to do in bed :-=D~. Wow, Birdee...going to sleep to the police scanner. That would keep me up ALL night, only because I spent the last 15 years living the police scanner at work, usually 1530-2330 hrs, so it was usually about 2:30 am before I could shake the adrenalin rush. Having only a 5 minute commute from work to home didn't help. And recognizing all the officers' and dispatchers' voices makes it really too scary and personal.

Whether it's due to a clear conscience, totally subscribing to The Serenity Prayer, or pure unadulterated laziness, I have little trouble nodding off in a hurry. If anything, I'm often angry at myself when I go to sleep before seeing or hearing whatever had my attention on the radio or TV. Reading a book never worked, because if I enjoy a book, I have a tendency to keep reading until I finish it. I've greeted many a sunrise with bleary eyes after reading THE END.

Charlie Rose (Midnight -1:00 am on PBS) helps me transition outside my ego-centric microcosm, and never ceases to entertain and enlighten. After that, the bedside Boze radio must be on with some classical or oldies music 'white noise'. I simply cannot go to sleep without sound in the room to keep my brain from going into overdrive.

Carol ~~ Thanking you again for this place. I love how we never run out of new and interesting opinions (and positions!), whatever the topic.

Whabbear ~~ Hope your NASA cohorts take good care of my homeboy (Love) who lifted off in the Shuttle today.

My Dad used to have problems falling to sleep. The cure was retirement.
My Mom uses meditation to fall asleep. She learned this from her doctor. He said start with your toes and put them to sleep. Work up to your ankles, knees, thighs, up and up. It works for her and her mind focuses on that and she falls asleep.
I use a noise machine and listen to the sounds of rain and I go to sleep easier that way and stay asleep.
This is a very interesting topic. I will come back tonight. We are going to TGIF and see a movie. Anyone want to come along. Hop aboard. All our welcome!!

Remember pic's of the old granny-pants? Flesh colored version of today's NBA basketball shorts. Maybe that's why I preferred to good old short shorts of the NBA......then again, there may be other reasons. I read your post with interest, you teach me about things I would otherwise not know, or understand.
I have never even thought of the universe or stars as you describe.

You bring up valid points, that make me think!

I for one was taught in school about God and the beginning of the human. As well as the story of Adam and Eve. I believed this story as it is all I have ever known. However growing up I realized that this story was probably made for us to understand it better. I let it go never to really look into it further!

Thanks for putting a different spin on my thought process!

You are truly a wonder of amazement

Hey hooters!

I just read the topic for the day, and Shirley, it's such a great one!

I am one of those who has FABULOUS ideas once I lay down to go to sleep. I used to keep a pen and paper in my bedside table, so I could write things down as I thought of them.

I think I did it once or twice, by the time I'm down, I'm usually down for the count and can't imagine getting out of comfy sheets.

It happened just a few nights ago, I had a brilliant idea for something, and now cannot for the life of me remember what it was.

Have to catch up on today and yesterday's blogs!

Congrats to our Lovey for being first!

Hope all are well, Amicus how is your dad doing?

My Paula seems to be doing great (thank you to Just Lin for the idea of warming her fluids, she is handling that much better!).

We have another 9 days of antibiotics. She has an appt. with our vet on Saturday to have blood tests, she wants to check her kidney function after a week of treatment.

Paula is loving her "renal diet" kitty food, which is a miracle. She has only eaten dry Science Diet her whole life, and I was worried the change to a new brand would be traumatic. But she has been a trooper and eating it without a problem. I think she knows we are just trying to help her get better.

So thank you again to you all for the good wishes! We really appreciate it!

Just_Lin said...

Tinka Nite nite. Sleep well.

EastBayJ Happy Dance for Paula. So glad things are going well. You may end up having to give SQ fluids on an ongoing basis so don't be surprised if that happens.

Bon'O said...

EBJ ~~ good to hear Paula's responding well! I've been tempted to ask our pet experts before...just how weird are my two cats? They absolutely will not touch ANY people food, not even albacore tuna. I've tried, and they just look at me as if to say "You actually EAT that crap??"
They will only eat dry Meow Mix and an occasional tin of Friskies Poultry Platter. Any other brands or flavors are fodder for the garbage disposal. Since they'll be 9 years old soon and have never been to the vet for other than routine checks, guess I shouldn't question their 'taste'? Have to say, though, I do miss my beloved black Shadow who would take you the floor if you didn't share your green beans or the dog's Snausages :o)

East Bay J said...

Bono, I don't think your cats are wierd. Paula won't eat anything besides her dry food. She won't eat tuna, treats, canned food (even the smelly fish flavor that most kitties seem to like).

She will occasionally drink water from canned tuna. But most of the time, we don't buy the cans so she does't get it too often.

On the other extreme, I had a kitty named Blacki who loved everything, his favorites were potato salad, trail mix and yougurt pretzels.

Again I want to thank everyone for their responses to my blog. I am usually more comfortable reading comments or messaging through myspace. I don't want people to think I don't care. I just have a few shout outs and then I am off to bed. I have a new part-time job to start tomorrow.
lil ole me - thanks
Kahonugrl - could you teach us all how to turn our brains off?
Jodi - thanks. Power naps were never enough for me. I need more than 20 minutes sleep.
Carol - thanks for giving me this opportunity.
Amicus - I'm glad your Dad is doing ok. You can comments whenever you have time.
Just Lin & East Bay J - thanks for the kind words.
(((((HUGS))))) for everyone
Good night!

EBJ ~~ one exception...My Mick goes catnip-crazy when I make my Vanilla SlimFast from powder. He comes running when he hears that whisking sound. I'll pour a dab on a saucer and put it down for him (they don't drink milk). Two quick slurps and he's done. (uh-oh, maybe I should have omitted that last line...the 'late shift' is about to begin ;=))

Another thing I've always found different about these two is neither of them have EVER attempted to climb up on a counter or table for food. I used to cringe when even Martha Stewart would have her cats up on the counter while she prepared food. But, I've always been surprised that they don't even try.

Shirley Good night. Hope you don't have trouble getting to sleep tonight! LOL

Bon'O and EastBayJ Kitties are funny. Some are really picky and will only eat the one thing they are used to. Others have strange tastes. As a kid, we had a cat who would steal corn on the cob. She'd go nuts for it.
