What is your Passion?

daily blog!

What is your passion?

by tina~in_ut

National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing

In 1997, I worked in a department where the call volume slowed to almost nothing after 11pm. There were two of us who worked the 6pm to 2:30am shift. After 11pm, I would either surf the internet, cross-stitch, or talk to Dale, my co-worker. Since Dale worked two jobs, he was always trying to nap and not in the mood to listen to my chatter. (imagine that!) One night as we walked to our cars, I noticed a sticker in his window. It said NASCAR. I asked him what it meant. As tired as he was, his eyes widened and he perked up and told me. The next night, I asked him some lame questions about NASCAR and we talked for the rest of the night about it. I really wasn't interested…..I was just bored and wanted to talk~

The next Sunday, race day, I turned on the TV to check out a little of the race. All these guys were driving in circles. It was the most boring thing I've ever seen. They were talking about things I didn't understand and making a big deal out of a pit stop that was under 20 seconds. On Monday, I told Dale I had "watched" the race, knew who won, and made fun of the guys "driving around and around and around!" And so it went for the rest of the "season"…I watched on Sunday and we talked for the rest of the week about what happened!

One night, after the season had ended, I was at home flipping channels and came upon the NASCAR Awards Banquet. The runner up was giving his speech. I thought….oh good…..Dale and I can talk about this on Monday! The runner up gave the best speech….it was funny, and he sounded like a true gentleman and seemed to be very grateful that he was a NASCAR driver. Then the champion for that year gave his speech…..oh, I could have just smacked that boy. He was so full of himself! On Monday, I told Dale what I had watched and what I thought! I'll never forget that day….it was the day I became a NASCAR fan and learned that my favorite driver's name was Dale Jarrett! I also learned that the champion for that year was Jeff Gordon…to be later renamed (by me) Stinkin'!

The next year I attended two NASCAR races. The first one was in Fontana, CA. I went by myself and I can't even begin to describe the feeling when I walked through the final tunnel and heard the roar of the engines. It is so loud and incredible and the ground feels like it's shaking. A girlfriend of mine from work asked to go with me the next time I went…..we had such a good time that we went every year until she got sick. We bought pit passes and instead of leaving when they closed the pits, we would hang out with our new friends the security guards…..these would be the same ones who let us into the garage area to meet Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt Jr (my friends' favorite!) and who let us into the suites to watch from above the pit area. Once, during qualifying, I snuck out onto pit road and pretended to be one of the media. When they moved, I moved. I got some great pictures that day……until I got kicked out~ We always had the best time. You know you've had a great day at the racetrack if you come home and look in the mirror and you have tire rubber all over your face. THAT is success!!!

Yesterday was the Gatorade Duel qualifying races. These races determine who is in the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Dale Jarrett is retiring this year and this will be his last Daytona 500. He didn't know until the race was over, if he was even going to be in the race. You should have heard me screaming when he made it! You would have thought he won!!!

I no longer think the drivers just drive around and around. I understand what it means to have a pit stop under 13 seconds. I can tell you what the draft is. I've seen Dale Jarrett start a race with cute chubby cheeks and finish a race looking like he's lost 15 lbs (because he has!). I get it now…..and I love it!

What sport are you passionate about? How did you start watching or playing it? Actually, it doesn't even have to be a sport…..it could be anything~ What is your passion?

Woohoo, Joey scores again...first, second and third! Well done! I saw Juno a couple of nights ago...it is really, really good...enjoy!!!

Good morning Joey and East Bay J!

Great topic, Tina in UT! Cool that you found a passion from wanting to be able to talk to a co-worker! I can't think of any sport that I am passionate about...although I do love the Olympics, especially the winter Olympics (hey, I am from Canada...we do well in the snow!!!)...and especially the skating! Love that! I think in terms or pastime or hobby, I am most passionate about reading and books! My bookshelves are spilling over and now in an effort to conserve both paper and money, I make myself go to the library (which I love to do...being surrounded by books....oh heaven!!!)...if I absolutely love the book and want to read it again, then I buy it and add it to the exploding bookshelves. There is nothing better to me than finding that book that you just can't put down...that everything else is put to the wayside (like sleeping and eating)...until it is finished. Love, love, love that!!!

Good Morning Feathered Friends!

JOEY, congrats AGAIN on being first!

Hi to EBJ and VIG!!

TINA, very good topic. You really are a good writer...I could feel the passion in your words. I could smell the fuel and burning rubber. You took me to the races!!

I must admit, I am not much of a fan of the races. I watch a minute or two, here and there. But after your blog, I may check it out closer. Thanks!

I guess my passion is cards and card making crap! I have too much stuff and I sometimes avoid sleep to be playing in my card room. Either creating or cleaning it or just looking at all the crap I have amassed!

BREAKFAST:
A cold cereal bar - pick your fav!
Milk
Whole wheat, multi grain, white and rye toast
Grapefruit
Fresh fruit salad
Coffees
Teas
Cocoas
Water
and DIET PEPSI for our Tina!

Happy Friday!!!

Joey - congrats on being No. 1 again!! :-)

Good morning - Joey, EJB, VIG and anyone else...

It's raining cats and dogs outside - in fact, Mr. MEK just scared the crap out of me - cuz I did NOT hear him come home - Golf was rained out...

Tina - great blog - I was JUST talking to IBB about the "circle" thing!!

My passion - GOLF - as you all know - The World match play tournament will start with practice rounds on Monday - and I LOVE volunteering for it - even though it's long hours - I LOVE it... I started watching golf on tv with my dad as a little girl - if you wanted to spend time with my dad - you watched golf!!

My other passions are football and baseball - Spring training starts today with pitchers and catchers reporting - MY Colorado Rockies are in town for the month of March and I'll be at several games!!

:-)

Mr. Mek keeps talking to me while I try to type this - SO, if it doesn't make any sense - I'm half way ignoring him while I am trying to concentrate... LOL

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!! :-)

From Area 51:
Now I know how a few of you feel when you are talking to yourself, as I have been for a couple of hours on Area 51. I guess I will try and cook the breakfast this morning....

French Toast
Butter (whipped)
Syrup or sugar
Juicy Bacon
Coffee/taa
Diet Soda
Regular Soda
Bloody Marys (since it is Friday)
sticks of celery and olives to add

There is some cornbeef and hash with eggs if someone doesn't like french toast. I hope this breakfast gets to the other side before someone else brings in more!! Please try not to spill any syrup.

Mo, I see you brought breakfast too. I think what we both brought will compliment each other. Looks good to me. Let's dig in.. I was just too hungry to wait...

Good Morning Owls!

I love going to hockey games, because the energy in the arena is exciting, especially when the Blues are winning. Sadly, that hasn't happened often in recent years. ;) My favorite season was when we had Wayne Gretzky and Brett Hull.

What I'm most passionate about though are pets, music, and musical theater.

Tina: Thanks for the fun topic!

Tinka: Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Waving Hi to the early birds: Joey, VIG, MEK, East Bay J, Maureen, Dianne!

From yesterday's comments...

Lynn D: That's sweet! Thank you! "What a Wonderful World" is one of my favorites too.

Turtle: Glad you're feeling better!

Dr. Dan: Welcome to the nest!

RonnieGirl: A warm welcome to you too! Yes, I'm a Survivor fan. Go Yau-Man!! :) Love Ozzie too!

Whabbear, Grandma Moses, SacBarb: Thanks!

DonnaJean: More hugs and prayers for you and Laurie.

MEK and IBB: Congratulations!

Have a fantastic Friday, Owls!

JoeyfromSC said...

ATTENTION: THERE IS A SPECIAL OWLETTE BULLETIN ON MYSPACE..ALERT! lol
ENJOY:)

now back to the regular nightowls blogging;)

Lynn D said...

Ok Owls we are going to have to put a stop to Joey!! 1st again?? LOL

Poor EBJ you never had a chance!

MEK and IBB: Congrats New Aunts!! Wahoo. I love it when I have a reason to shop in the baby section at any store. Something about the booties and tiny shoes that makes me laugh. I have found baby Uggs and have been giving them to everyone that has a girl. They crack me up! I hope your Mom's Tests come out just fine!!

My passions change at any given time. But the two that stay constant like Vig the Notorious is Reading because it is a great escape. Just love that feeling when I start a new book.

The other is the beach. Any beach anywhere. I'm am not crazy about walking around where I live but get me on a beach and I will walk for miles and not even realize it. I beachcomb and walk. Something about the beach relaxes me and helps me to realize how small I am in the grand scheme of things. My dream is to one day retire on the beach.

Tina: I just really can't get passionate about sports. In the last ten years I find that most of it is disappointing and so commercial that it turns me off.
That is Mr. Lynn D's arena and he only follows the Seahawks and Mariners.

Great job of describing how you found Nascar and your passion!!

Good Morning Mo and Dianne/Denver! Thanks for the huge banquet!! Oh yeah food is another passion! LOL

Dianne..Of course it does:)

Good MORNING everyone!! Is this what actual morning looks like, after you've slept and everything? I have an appt. at nine--which I missed already and have now rescheduled to ten-thirty. I have to take this early rising thing a little slow. ;)

TINA--great blog! You're getting so good at this, I'm never going to have to write one!

I like NASCAR too. I've only been really watching for a couple years now. I became interested for kinda the same reason Tina did. I have a friend who is crazy about it, and I wanted to be able to talk to her. My favorite driver is Kevin Harvick. And there's a lot of fun in disliking 'he who shall not be named'..or 'stinkin'. I'll be watching the Daytona 500 this weekend..crank up the surround and sit in the middle of the room, pretend I'm there.

My passion I think is music. It has the wonderful ability to change and modify my mood. I have hundreds of albums and CD's from Sinatra to AC/DC...each with the ability to transport me wherever I want to go.

MEK & IBB: Congrats on becoming Aunts again!

JOEY: I think you've got the hang of it now, NUMBER 1!!!

VIG: I love books too. If I could sit and listen to Sinatra, read and watch NASCAR, well that would be pretty much perfect.

DIANNE & MAUREEN: I'll have some of this, and some of that, and one of those...;)

HI to EBJ and AMICUS!! I better get moving before I miss the second appt. too. Sorry for the long-ass post!

Where is our Fowl Owl?? BIRDEEEEEE, come home!!

Hi gang! Good morning to all of you owlettes, yes, even you Joey, LOL!

Thanks for the march congrats yesterday, I meant to come back here last night, and just got too busy!

Jodi--we don't have as much snow as you, but we've had over 50 inches of the crap so far....this is by far the worst winter in a long time. The kids have had 10 snow days so far, and who knows how many more we're going to have?! We have another snow storm coming on Sunday.....yuck!!

Thanks for the good breakfast buffet Mo and Dianne! Yummo!!

Thanks for the blog today, Tina! I like about any sport, especially the ones my kids are in. Funny story--I'd never went out for track, and my oldest didn't either, but my oldes daughter Tonya did. It wasn't until her senior year in h.s. that I figured out what the "gun" going off again after a race started meant! Duh!! It was the mile run, and it signaled the start of the last lap, LOL! I'm always learning something new with one sport or another!!

Have a wonderful day and weekend bloggers, I've got a busy one. I may be on tonight for a while, otherwise not until Sunday nite!!

big ole ((((((((hugs))))))))) to each of you from lil ole me!!!

Lynn D said...

Hi Gang I am back for a few here!

I just posted a bulletin on myspace about one of my passions right now. It is about Ebay or as I have started calling FEEbay! I am asking if you would take the time to read it when you have a chance. It is very important to me.

Thank you kindly!

Zona: Becareful I hope you have some sunglasses! The daylight might blind you!! Now run to your appt.

Hi lil ole me and goldie! Oh and Dr. Dan too!

TINA---
I love this post!!!!!
O.K. where to start...

My husband got me into it... He went to a race in Richmond.. and begged me to go with him... I said." Why do I want to go watch grown men drive in circles for hours!!!??"
Well he went... and when he came home he said ... "You have to go just once!!" ....so I went ... Well you just cannot describe the feeling... They were practicing when we got there...
As I walked out of the tunnel and on to the walkway around the track... A car just blasted past... took my hat off my head and gave me a tingle on the back of my neck.. and that was it ... I was hooked!!!

Mr. IBB has on his license plate
8-weiser and mine was ATE_CAR...
No we are not race fans....
We have season tickets to Richmond... had but let go of.. season tickets to Charlotte and Talladega...Got to be just a little expensive to go to 5 races a year...
I love Talladega the best!!!! Just way to long a drive... It is not so bad on saturday going down there... but that 11 hours on monday is killer... plus you drove sunday night for 5 hours and only got an hour away from the track...

O.K.... I could go on all day...

JOEY-- congrats on 1,2,3 and ....

EBJ-- congrats on 4!!

Mo&Dianne ..Thanks for breakfast..I will have brunch..a little of everything..

LynnD- I too love the beach... I would love to retire to a beach... And I so know what you mean about walking... Mr.IBB is like "who are you , walking all the time??"

Jax ANd Dr. Dan... The 2 tracks I would Like to go to(That I havent been to yet.) are Bristol and Daytona... Bristol Tickets are just impossible to get... ANd I would love to the whole
"speed week" thing!! At daytona..

A huge shout out ta all others...
Amicus
Little ole me
goldie
VIG
Zona
And MEK!!!

And thanks to all the congrats....I am SOOOOO excited...

Good day to all....ANd all those posting at the same time as me...
Sorry for the NOVEL...

ibebold said...

O.K... Tina ...you got me started....
One year for my husnads Birthday... his father gave him a day of driving at dover...
It is kinda like Richard Petty driving scholl...
But it called " Tame the Monster Mile" ( the nickname for Dover is "Monster Mile")My MIL also got this for her birthday...
So off we go to Dover Delaware... Get to the track at & in the morning...
They go to "driver meetings"..
My FIL and I walked around the track...On the inside... we had run of the whole place... We got to be where the spotters are during a race... it was really cool...
So anyway... They got drive a race car for ten laps.. just 2 cars at a time... and there was a "pace car " out there with them...
It was blast ...Good time had by all... well spectators could pay a fee and ride with the pace car...
My FIL paid the fee for me to be able to do this!!!
let me tell you ... for those who don't think racecar drivers are athletes... let me tell you...
Our organs are all free floating inside our body... welll at teh end of my 10 laps... I felt like all my organs were slammed againgst my right side...
It was a really weird feeling... I cannot imagine doing that for 400 ofr 500 miles!!!!
I gained a whole new respect for the drivers...

Sorry again for the novel...
BUT I LOVE NASCAR!!!!

DreamaTexas said...

Ahhh, NASCAR. My cousin's husband works for NASCAR in North Carolina. My nephew and his Dad used to travel to Dallas for NASCAR. His Dad mourned terribly the day Dale Earnhardt died. I am not big into NASCAR however I know that there are 2 brothers that compete and they used to live here in my city. Come on people help me out with their names?! One of them owned a townhome next door to my friend David and this NASCAR driver would rev his engine and fly down the private driveway. They come back here for charity drives. What are the brothers names?! Ahhh.. I'm not much into watching racing. I rather be doing it myself but I no longer own a Corvette and the speeding tickets aren't much fun :0)

Bon'O Congrats on Owl Said.

Tina Wonderfully written blog. I have watched enough races on TV to understand how it could become a passion. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a passion right now unless you count CUSTARD!!

Dianne/Denver Are you a little tired today? I wonder...did I really go to bed early or did I fly over to your place and set off that alarm? Hmmmm......

Mary/Mi Glad you came home a winner. Watch out for Dianne/Denver. She's been trying to steal Custard and now she's going after your money. Can't anyone put her on the naughty mat?

Good afternoon Owls and Owlettes,
Love your passion Tina...made me feel the thunder under my feet. I'm not into the Nascar thing but we did go to the stockcar races when I was a kid. Of course, at that young age, my favorite part was the demolition derby. lol Anyway, as a teen, we drag raced the quarter mile throughout high school. (Right out of American Graffiti) If our parents had only known, we'd still be grounded to this day.

Dianne_givesgoodbreakfast_Denver and Mo., thanks for the nourishments. This place is a regular IHop in the mornings.

Amicus, thanks for the welcome. I agree with you about Yau-man...he DOES know how to play the game! The one I really want off is the big rude hairy guy with the palm leaves coming out of his hat. Karma will get him. lol

Congrats to the two new Aunties-to-be. It's such a special time when new family members come into the world. And, they smell so good too.

Hey Jax~ did you make it to the shrimp boat yesterday, and how was dinner?

As far as my real, real, real passion ...it's SEX.... JUST TEASING!! I only wanted to get your attention after you having to read my ridiculously long post. My passion, other than family, is saltwater fishing. Too many stories to tell, besides it is said that all fishermen tell lies about their big catch anyway.
Have a great day everyone,

I'm off to do a little shopping.

Clam Chowder
Fresh crisp salad bar
Toasted Sourdough or plain
Riye Bread
Butter, near butter etc.
Spritzers and sodas
Tea
Coffee
Freshly made lemon or rasberry sorbet with sugar wafer optional.
or for no sugar lent crowd.. frozen blueberries mixed with honey and yogurt.

Eat up..back later, gotta play NASCAR and race to bank before my next client..gotta also stop and get lotion tissue for dd before her nose falls off.

Now you know we've been over this before about my affair with the chef on Food Network. We won't be mentioning any names here, but hey, that was before he married his present wife. BAM!! I do know one thing, I bet I can now cook better cajun food than you....lol
Sad part is that he's so proud of his chef's hat he never, I mean never, takes it off. Too much starch during romance time. lol

Really do need to go shopping now.

I agree big fireman may have cooked his goose! If any of them had been listening at tribal he told them right out I don't know these people and I don't care who gets voted out when. Duhhhh I hope they did not make an alliance with him.

My take on his going after Mary. He was jealous!! She did not swing her perky boobies at him and it irritated him, because if his brain had really been functioning ( I think lack of blood flow to the brain from all of those muscles) he would have went with a weak link in challenges or Mikey B!!! IMHO

TINA - Great blog!!! Sorry.....but I've always been a fan of "he who must not be named". I'm a huge midget car fan - I have been going to the races at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for over 35 years. It was at Angell Park that I got the honor of watching Jeff Gordon race when he was just a teenager - and I've been a fan ever since. The track at Sun Prairie also houses the Midget Racing Hall of Fame - and I was there the night they inducted Tony Stewart. I guess I've become more of a fan of Matt Kenseth (a local boy from Cambridge, WI). Matt grew up racing right outside of Oregon at the Madison International Speedway. NASCAR is totally fun to watch - and I would love to go to a race someday!!! But as far as local races, my heart belongs to Angell Park. Nothing like open wheel racing on a clay track!!!

DIANNE - Congrats on last in Area 51!!! I see that JOEY already crowned you :D And no, I DID NOT TAKE THE BATTERIES!!! lol!!

Hi Owls!!!
Just a quick fly by..Had no electric for most of the day( thank god for a gas stove or I would be a frozen owl) and am way behind..great topic...My passion is also reading...I can just lose myself in a book and not be aware of anything around me. When reading a good book, it feels like I am there with the characters or like I actually am one of the characters. When I read I visualize the people, the places and such like a little movie in my head. Reading for me is just not something to do, it is an experience.

Congrats to Joey for being first!

MEK Take some Mucienex (sp?) It is the absolute best the for that horrible cough

Good Afternoon - my friends.

I KNEW tina's blog would get IBB going - SHE lives and breathes that NASCAR shit!! :-) I was SO afraid that she would want to come visit and make me go to a race in Phoenix - but thankfully, she doesn't like that race - SO, I was saved!!! :-)

I have been sleeping ALL day trying to sweat out this fever and take care of this cough!! Still feel like shit!!

Goldie and Dianne - sorry for the mess earlier - I did clean it up!!

Since Want2 borrowed my pencil - I can't remember who mentioned musicnex - I tried that last time I was sick and it gave me weird symptoms and I didn't do it again!! and it didn't work for me.

Goldie and LOM - YES, i have to take pictures!! OH MY - OH - and Ernie Els has decided to show up after all - so he bounced some poor guy out, who I am sure had already purchased his plane ticket, hotel, etc. - I just can't wait for Tiger!! :-)

My head is pounding and all plugged up - THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!

my whole family is doing the HAPPY DANCE with the expecting news!!!

Hope everyone has had an excellent day -- i will have to turn over the marching to others as i don't want to over exert myself.. :-)

Hi everyone!!!!

Off to read comments!

Tina, guess what my passion is?

It has three letters in it! Thank god Dean is coming home tonight.

It all began when I was 18 1/2. I really did try to wait until I was married.

Just_Lin said...

MEK Hey, sorry that you are sick. You need to get better soon. When is the tourney? You can't be coughing when Tiger is set to swing!!!!

Dianne/Denver said...

MEK: This is not good news that you have gotten sick again. Does this dang stuff ever completely go away? Rest and rest some more. Keep drinking the OJ and Tomato Juice we have left you..throw some vodka in both or either of them. Take good care and did I say to rest? Thinking of you....

JODI: You already said you took the flashlight battery so you must have the smoke alarm one too. I just wish you could have done it at a decent hour.

It's almost 5PM and I still haven't had that nap...too many errands today.

I need some help here...JUSTLIN is putting scary pictures on myspace to make me crazy (crazier). Dead animals (owls) fire alarms ringing constantly..she is sending these to her body gurard---ME!! HELP!!

Mo, thanks for dinner. Is lent over yet? I am already tired of no meat Friday's.

Thanks for the sweet comments today~

IBB~ I knew it would bring the NASCAR out in you~ :D I don't like the PHX raceway either...and my favorite track used to be Talledega, until Mr. Tina went with me....he sure ruined it! But after that, he bought me my own scanner~ :)~ Oh....and I have a pic of the Labonte brothers on myspace.....from my "media" adventure!!! :D

MEK~ get over it already~ :)~ he-he~

Just_Lin~ I WOULD call that an obsession~ :)

Dianne~ grilled cheese, baby~

Joey~ Congrats on #1 again~

AND for the record, I am not trying to "get Custard"...this girl (JustLIN) will never learn or listen to me!! After seeing that dead owl, I sure won't be flying around at night anymore when J/L is wandering around. Geez...

MEK: IF you cough when Tiger is shooting or putting or whatever you call it....you might get to be on the news for all of us to see. Now that would be kind of fun and make you famous..

Tina....you are a woman of many interests! A fellow book lover..fabulous! Hope this isn't totally lame....but since owls are reputed to be wise and learned, maybe we should have a Wise Owls book of the month club. Take turns picking a book that could be easily found (ie...at the library) and then whoever wants to could talk about it here!

iteach said...

I don't think I ever told you JL, but Mr. Custard looks very studly. I like men in uniform.

MEK in AZ said...

OMG - we are watching the news - it actually snowed on the east side of town !!!!! WOW..

OH - and I'm sure you ALL know my passion - I collect scrapbook stuff!!! :-) Actually tried to use some of those coupons yesterday, but everything was already on sale!!!!! :-)

Dianne - I don't think that is something that I would want to become famous for - if you know what I mean!!

MEK in AZ said...

I think Dianne would look kinda funny with a grilled cheese hanging out of her ear!!!

VIG~ You pick the book and I will read it. I will do my best to discuss it, but I have never been good at that.

I think I have been working with seven year olds too long.

My comments are usually like-

That was good!

That was sad.

Lame, but I will try. I can't wait to see what book you pick.

Tina~in_ut said...

VIG~ uh.....actually....I don't think you would want to read what I read~ :)~ Rarely do I read what you would consider bookclub worthy~ :)~ Although.....my next book is going to be A Thousand Splendid Suns~ Most of what I read is smut~ :D I actually "met" an author on the phones at work....I now read all her books....they are so entertaining...it's my escape~ :)

J/L~ honey.....I think there is a cowboy in (name his state) that is going to get jumped next month~ :D

MEK~ oh go on....live a little...we would love to see you make the news~ :)~

Just_Lin said...

iteach You're right. He is studly. He likes all the rugged stuff but is really sweet at the same time. Killer combination. He used to fight forest fires when he was in his early twenties. Now he's 60 and signing up as a volunteer forest firefighter up in Idaho. I think that is his true passion.

Maureen said...

Tina...wow...A Thousand Splendid Suns (by Khaled Hosseini...author of The Kite Runner) was one of the books I was going to suggest. I just finished reading it and liked it a lot! And hey..nothing wrong with a little smut! We could alternate between a Wise Owl choice and a Naughty Owl Choice. That would be fun!

iteach....cool that you are in! And good and sad are the best kind of books!!!!!

My other passion is reading. I love a good book. I have totally fallen in love with the Harry Potter series - and I must say - I was not disappointed in the final book last summer. JK Rowling really took me for quite an emotional journey. Another favorite is Mitch Albom - he certainly knows how to pull on the heart strings. My brother has introduced me to a local Wisconsin author - Michael Perry. He write with a wit and wisdom of small town Wisconsin living. My favorite book of his is "Truck - A Love Story".

VIG - I'd be happy to join in on a monthly book club here!!! Just let me know.

TINA - Thanks for the bouquet - ONLY YOU!!! lol!!

Evening owlettes!

Jodi- I am a Kenseth fan too. I met his mother and wife one day in Cambridge at the Wood shed. A friend has a disabled son who is a huge fan of his. She asked if she could get an autograph from Matt perhaps and wife said (coldly)"I'll put in a request". Well his Mom piped up and asked the little boys name and all about him. She promised to get him an autographed t-shirt, and the next day it was dropped off at the store for him. Nice lady- who didn't get an overblown attitude like his wife!

We used to go to Beaver Damn Raceway for the Sprint Cars. Mr. Goldie has 2 friends ( 1 former roommate from his pre-Goldie days)that were IRL Sprint drivers. My kids got to sit the cars and we met tony Stewart there in the pits!

Geez, who knew I was so connected to Nascar. Sorry for the long post.
Oh and how does 10 flipping inches on of ice pellets and freezing rain sound to you Jodi? Yippee fu**ing hot damn!

Well, I am glad you all like my little owl. Self portrait.

Dinner looks fabulous but Mr. Goldie and I just got home from fish fry, so I'll hold out until dessert.

~~waving~~ wildly at everyone.

Feel better MEK

Jodi said...

GOLDIE - I think my favorite place in Madison for a fish fry is the Esquire Club on the Eastside!!! Have you ever had the fish boil at the Avenue Bar? It's fabulous!!!

iteach said...

Jodi~ My favorite chapter in the last book was the one about Snape. He was my favorite character. I really could feel his love for Harry's mom. It made me cry.

goldie said...

Nope- but if you say its good I will. Have you ever been to Quiveys for theirs? It has been year.
Hubbard is my fav resturaunt - not necessarily the best fish fry- but I Love their broasted chickenowl, I mean chicken!

Jodi said...

GOLDIE - I've never been to Quivey's. I've heard good things about it, though.

ITEACH - I think that was one of my favorite chapters, too. I'm a total noodle - and cried thru a lot of it. It moved me - and knowing that it was the last one. I know - loser, geek.....Oh, well....I am what I am. :)

Jodi and iteach...I have to admit that I never read Harry Potter. You've inspired me to head to the library to find it!

Evening Owls !

Just stopping in with my shorts, tank top, and bare feet, although I do love crocs!

Tina and IBB-
Next year you all should think about coming down to Daytona, seriously, Mr. Jax gets sky box seats through his vendors free! This time he wanted our boys to experience the bleacher seats, so Coca -Cola lined him up with front row. They had the sky box the last few years and for the Arca, and the Coca-Cola folks thought he was nuts asking for bleacher. Mr. Jax does however make sure that everyone he gives tickets to knows the Coke jingle and asks them to say it, or sing it! LOL!

Jus_Lin-
I thought you were talking about the food, custard too. What a great story...hope it goes well. I can't wait to hear.

Vig-
Yes, I read Memorie Keepers Daughter last year, it was great!!!

Little one hanging on me, so I will wait til she is tucked in before I try and chat.....

Lynn D-
Thank you for your help!
