What would you do?

I was at work recently and a woman came in. We were talking and she mentioned that someone close to her (can't remember if it was her mom or dad or who) had a very short time to live, so she was getting ready to take this person their dream vacation.
They were going to fly to Miami to go on a Caribbean cruise. (The woman had come into the clinic because she was sick, and worried she might not be able to make the trip).
All the arrangements had been made, wheelchair access, special tours, etc. They were going first class on the plane, and on the ship, sparing no expense.
Made me start thinking, what if it were me who had only a short time left on earth? What would I want to do?
I came up with a quick list:
Lay on the beach in Maui till I die
Quit work, catch up on movies and TV I missed
Watch The Sopranos from start to finish one more time
Go to Las Vegas and spend freely on slot machines
Get drunk (it's been a longggg time since I did that!)
On the topic of work, tell 1 bitch Dr. to FUCK OFF! (oh how I'd love to do that!!)

I think that makes a lot of sense. I am an older mom and probably won't see my grandkids, or if I do , it won't be for long..and I feel sad about it. The grandparent/grandkid is a great and rightfully indulgent relationship, I get it! Do you have any kids in your life that you enjoy..bet they would or do enjoy you! And I do not know where I would be or my daughter would be without our Aunties who don't "have kids of their own"..they are fresh, kind, fun and NEEDED.

I never had kids either. I only have one nephew so I always spoiled him rotten. I always think about how I will miss out on grandkids. The best I can do is surround myself with furbabies that kiss me, jump in my face every morning, want to play ball every time we go outside, throw toys around the house, cry if I don't take them to grandma's house,.... and that's just off the top of my head. Can you just imagine how spoiled they'd be if I did have grandkids.

I guess I am what you call a "fairy Aunt". Growing up I always wished I had one. Most of my Aunts on my fathers side made us feel unwanted and were pretty mean to my Mom.
I have 2 nieces who I have been close to since birth. They are both in college now. I bought them every prom dress and school out fit through their school years. I now pay for part of their dorms, cell phones and send them money for groceries. They both work and are very appreciative. I adore them both. I would have loved to have had an Aunt like me LOL!!!
It is about time they start taking care of the Native Americans...
