NO, NO, not drugs!! It’s another kind of addiction. Obsession might be a better word. I feel the need to “collect” any kind of scrapbook, card making or stamping product out there. I have been attempting to reorganize my craft area and am not having much success. I purchased several storage cubes to make a user friendly area in our loft. I collected TONS of coupons over the weeks/months from family and neighbors, in order to get them all at a discount. It took awhile to convince Mr. MEK to FINALLY put them together for me (golf course was always calling his name, and I don’t blame him). We spent two days working together to assemble them and get them into the perfect configuration. SO, I started filling the drawers, labeling, etc. and I discovered, I HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF!!!!!!!! Good grief!! I am ADDICTED!!! I AM OBSESSED!!!!
I must own EVERY tool known to a scrap booker (heck, some I own twice – LOL) Some I forgot that I owned!! …….. die cutting systems, adhesives, punches, stamp sets, ink pads, pens, pencils, chalk, ribbons, OH MY, (yes, even found another bag filled with holiday ribbon!!), brads and eyelets to last a life time, tons of embellishments, and PAPER coming out, well, you know, …… patterned paper, cardstock, card stacks, kits from QVC - you name it – I own it.
I have filled all of the cubes and drawers and still have TONS of stuff left in the other room. I spent so much time “collecting” things that I don’t actually “make” anything. To feed the addiction, I just bought several rubber stamps and a new circle punch on my way home today, just because. AND, to make matters worse, I have two Michael’s coupons that are burning a hole in my pocket – trouble is, I own the WHOLE store and it’s getting harder and harder to find anything to buy!! So, I need to get over the obsession of buying and collecting and actually MAKE something!! But, you see if I make something, then I might have to buy more stuff! Therefore, the addiction and the obsession!!!!! (Okay, I am also obsessed with using too many exclamation points!!!!)
So, I was just wondering – does anyone else have any addictions or obsessions? Do you buy stuff that you never use? Do you collect something you have no idea why you do?
OH – and to feed my addiction/obsession, QVC will have having scrap booking day Sunday night and Monday – Mr. MEK said he was going to have the channel blocked in our hotel room!! LOL what’s a girl to do?

Already mentioned I have trouble parting with books, and my Michael's/craft store equivalent would have to be Barnes & Noble and Borders. I can't NOT cruise the book section at Costco each time I'm there, as I was today. Almost bought 'Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?' by Peter Walsh (was on Oprah yesterday)...then remembered I haven't read the last 3 books I got at Costco, so I passed. Sounds like it could be the Nest's Book of the Month Club choice, though :o)
Hey, there's an idea, Carol! We should form a book club....oops, we're never off the computer long enough to read.

CP: Sorry you are feeling bad. It only lasts for three weeks! Try and get some rest and sleep too. The story about the lettuce is funny. Maybe it helped get you that trip booked...reminded him of a four leaf clover!!
TINA: Sorry you are still sick. You aren't "milking it" are you? Too bad you can't post that picture of you in that white dress and white crocs...it was lovely! You need to be polite to BONO regarding those crocs too. I think it is really nice that she is out scouting around for you and maybe she even purchased some for you already.
DREAMA: LOL on your hose. Good thing it is warm there! Does it ever get cold?
Here is a new collection for the day: I collect food. If you could see my freezer and pantry. I save in case there is a war!! Now, I am not old enough to have lived in the depression! The deal about this is that I don't hardly ever cook. I am always going through the food and passing it on to my kids or donating it. My kids always check the dates on the food I give to them. My dad was the same way!
I also collect Hummels, music boxes, clowns and I buy presents to put in my "store" downstairs for gifts coming up. I forget I have them and sometimes kids outgrow the things I buy..drives MrDianne crazy! I have given some of my things away to the kids or family. Oh yea, I try to collect diamonds but not many will go along with this collection!
Back to Collection Confession ~~ Nothing major here. I do seek out 1950's and earlier kitchen textiles (tablecloths, dish and hand towels, etc.) and utensils from the same decades. That's where the red bakelite comes in. Strangely, it all started with Mom's standby yellow bakelite handled egg-beater. I prefer red so have found cake cutters, ice cream scoops, beaters and glass butter churn with wooden paddles and red bakelite grip on the lid/crank,all sorts of similar items. Also love the (I call it Martha Stewart green) FireKing Oven Ware cereal and serving bowls and coffee mugs. And, of course, McCoy crocks. Wish my kitchen were large enough to display things like the functional toasters, mom's white/black Sunbeam mixer and bowls, antique apple peelers, non-electric curling irons, flat irons blue spatterware, etc.
My real loves are the Amish quilts, table cloths, wall hangings and Amish art. Favorite piece is a 6' painted crosscut saw I keep on the mantel. Don't have much as I'm a long way from Amish country and bought the pieces I do have directly from the artisans.
Di/Denver ~~ Don't you go gettin' me in trouble with Ms. T! I can do that just fine all by myself...I did think of her though when I saw the pale silvery white Croc color I'd never seen before. Almost got a pair for me (I only have the metallic gold) AND a pair for Tina so she always has a spare to go with that lovely white dress!
Think I need to get up out of the chair and go clean closets. Goodnights & get betters to any in later time zones or calling it a day. TGIF!!

Nice blog Mek. The only thing I remember collecting was Star Trek stuff. I started by taping the shows off TV. I have over a hundred VHS tapes of the Original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, movies and specials. I also have two boxes (or three) of books, a box of comics, a watch, a shot glass, a drinking glass, action figures, a hat, calenders, a huge wooden poster in my living room and various other bits and pieces. It was fun collecting it but I'm not sure what to do with it now. It is just sitting in my closet. Anyway that is about the only thing I ever collected.

Sounds like myself..I get very obsessed with things/people easily too! LOL
Something about the "mass" of it all makes you feel cozy and happy..I actually used to collect ALL sorts of things such as advertising memorabilia, tins, signs, etc. and coca-cola stuff, but realized it's all DUST collectors!LOL
