The Aunt's

I have been trying to come up with some new material for Carol to post as a blog and I have many that just keep rolling around like so many marbles in my head. Then I can’t decide what to sit down and write about.

Finally I have decided to tell a story about my three aunts on my Dads side of the family. These are women who are strong and interesting and some times just down right weird.

My Three Aunts

by LynnD

The Aunts:

Mary Lee
Is the oldest now the age of seventy. She was a Jr. High school teacher for 35 years. She is 4 foot eleven on a good day. My whole life she has worn her hair in the same style. Very 1960’s it is rolled in wide circles all over her head and then a long piece in front is wrapped across her forehead and circles to the back , kind of a modified Beehive. She is the brunette. (Thank you Clairol!). Her other eccentricity is that she has always worn 3 to 4 inch high heels. She can’t wear any flat shoe of any kind because of this. I have seen her in slippers and she walks on her tiptoes. I have surmised she is trying to make up for her lack of height.

Betsy
Is the middle daughter and a blonde. She is the one I consider the most controlling of all of the siblings. She rules with an iron fist. Though she has many secrets of her own she will deny all of them with her last breath. She has a winning smile and can be very charming when she wants to apply herself but watch out!! Don’t cross her in anyway. She is the one who tries to keep current in fashion and hair and does not look her age which is in her early sixties.

Lynnette
Is the youngest sister in her fifties. She is the redhead (I will tell you now I don’t know which of them dyes their hair but have always been sure one of them does. Hello redhead, brunette and blonde?) this is the sister who really did not get any fashion sense! Over the years I have seen her in some of the worst outfits and it just does not occur to her that anything is wrong. Hairstyles? Well let’s put it this way she had the same bad perm and cut all of the 1990’s even when her sisters would tell her point blank that her hair looked like hell.

Ok that is just some background info so you might be able to tell who is who in this fun story. LOL

Two years ago I went to a family reunion for my Grandmother’s side. Dad had asked me to go for many years and I caved this year. My Dad and I arrived and I proceeded to greet all of the Aunts, Uncles and cousins that I knew. We ate and laughed and passed around photograph albums and generally everyone was having a great time. We then moved into a circle so everyone could introduce themselves and say which part of the family tree they were from and who’s children where who’s etc… This was over and everyone split up to talk and mingle.

I had been sitting by Aunt Lynette and Aunt Mary Lee and my Uncle Hank and my Dad. We were just chatting and joking and having a fine time. Aunt Mary Lee left our group to go talk to some of the extended family. I watched as she made her way across from us to a group of ladies that Aunt Betsy had been visiting with. I was still talking to Aunt Lynette when all of a sudden here comes Aunt Mary Lee stomping across the grass (well as much as you can stomp in heels on grass) she had a totally pissed expression on her face. She marched up to Aunt Lynette and said we are leaving now!!! They had come together in the same car and she expected Aunt Lynette to jump up with her purse and keys and do her bidding. Aunt Lynnette just sat in her chair and then looked at me like what the hell? I shrugged like I don’t know? So she stood up and said “what happened?” Aunt Mary Lee was so mad she looked at Aunt Lynnette and said “That Bitch Betsy!” We are leaving!!

By this time Uncle Hank (who is hard of hearing) is tapping me on the leg and wants to know what is going on? I have no clue!! Aunt Lynnette asks her” what did Betsy do now?” Aunt Mary Lee replies “I walked over to talk to Aunt Eleanor and I hear that bitch telling her that yes she does look like the youngest sister Thank you!” Especially since she has never had any work done like her other two sisters!””Did you know Mary Lee has had a face lift and Lynnette had Botox done?” “I have only ever washed my face with cleanser and moisturized.”

Well I am sitting there trying really hard not to laugh my ass off and Dad was no help because he was laughing his ass off already. Uncle Hank is looking at me going what?? What is Lee pissed off about??? I am trying to give him the look. You know the just a minute and I will fill you in look. Aunt Lynnette takes Aunt Mary Lee aside and they are arguing back and forth. I let Uncle Hank know what is going on and he is roaring with laughter and saying “Yep that Betsy is a bitch but she told the truth!” Of course he is saying this so loud everyone has turned to stare and whisper. Finally Aunt Lynnette comes back and grabs her purse and folding chair. She looks at me and says” It was nice to see you honey but I am taking Aunt Mary Lee home before we have some hair pulling and choking to contend with.

Yes this is some of my family. I love them! Sometimes I don’t really like them, but they always and I mean always amuse me when they are not pissing me off!!

What are your stories?? Do you have lunatics in your family too? Do you get along with them all? Do you ever question how you ended up in your family like I do? LMAO

PS I changed the names not to protect the innocent but to protect me!!!

Good Morning Owls!

"Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!"

I just visited VIG's page for a dose of morning cheer. :)

Lynn: Your aunts are a hoot! LOL! You did a great job of telling the story with details I could visualize. Thanks for the morning laugh!

I can't think of any stories to share right now, but there's always a lot of laughs at our family get-togethers so I'm sure I'll come up with a fond memory once my mind is more awake.

Congrats on 1st again, Scirish!

Waving Hi to all the Owls who will be joining us soon for coffee and tea.

Happy Friday everyone!

Good morning scirish, congrats on 1st-again!
Morning amicus and mek.

Great blog today lynn. I could picture the whole thing.

I really have no stories. My mom and dad both came to America in the late '50s. Met and married. ALL my relatives are in Germany. I have never had a holiday or birthday gathering with an aunt, uncle, cousin, or grandparent. I have only met my relatives a few times when they have visited or we have traveled to Germany.
I can honestly say that I always was jealous as a kid when other families had big gatherings. It was just me, mom, dad, my bro and sis.

Oh, by the way- no matter what JODI says later, I did have half my clothes on!

scirish said...

Oh! Lynnn...that just cracked me up..I can just picture them....

I have a SIL who is a sweetie, but not the brightest bulb on the planet.
She once came running over with her checkbook in her hand visibly upset. When I asked her what was the matter she told me she didn't know what to do...She said..."I have to void this check and I don't know how the bank will know I voided it." After my face stopped twitching, I tried to explain to her that the bank didn't really care because the check would never go to the bank. Her reply? "Won't they notice that the numbers are out of order?" After more face twitching, I explained about checks being presented to the bank out of order all the time. To which she replied, "but they are always in order on my statement" I gave up.

Jodi caught me without clothes on this morning- that is all I am saying on the subject.

scirish- lmao at your SIL story.
It did remind me of a story.

My SIL and I go away on a weekend every year. We went to a casino. I won $5000.00 on the Let it Ride table. Took forever to get paid, then she plops money into a machine on the way to the room, wins $100 and the machine wont pay.Waited an HOUR.
Finally in our room and it is almost 5 in the morning. We are in bed for 15 minutes and the fire alarm goes off. I calmy go get my shoes on,grab my coat and purse. She is in the meantime running out into the hall in her babydolls, with her sleep mask pushed up on her forehead like a chicken with its head cut off.
She comes racing back in to the room, running circles and says "are you taking your purse and your make-up?" HUH? I just looked at the lunatic and said- "I just won $5000.00-of course I am taking my fucking purse- I can buy new make-up!"

HI MO! I was in my panties.....

Maureen said...

I have a pretty large extended family. And except for me all of them are kinda crazy!! J/K! I am a bit crazed too! (shut up Tina!)
I don't have any Aunts left, but I have some cousins that are old enough to be my Aunts or even be my mother.

Thelma is a piece of work! She was always a curt woman to many of the family members. We always got along and she seemed to really love my mom (she is a cousin by marriage)and me. When my mom passed away, I had written a tribute and thanked a lot of relatives for all they had done and how my mom really felt about them. I was not able to read it and Thelma said she would be honored to read it for me. She also wrote me a card and told me that I will always have a mom...in her. I was very touched.
But Thelma also has a way...very unique!! I had lost 60 pounds on Weight Watchers. And when I saw her, she was so thrilled for me. She then made it her mission to find out how much I weighed! I told her that I loved her dearly, but I would never tell her that! It became a joke for a long time. Everytime I saw her, she would ask and I would tell her the same thing...I'm not gonna tell you! Sadly, Thelma had a stroke and I went to Dayton the next day to visit her in the hospital. We had a lovely visit...then she called me close to her...in her impeded speech, she asked me how much I weighed!!! I told her that just because she had a stroke, she couldn't and wouldn't get that outta me!! This continues everytime I see her! When her grandaughter was killed by a drunk driver, we went to Dayton for the funeral. It was right after I was robbed at work...and as we were at the house after the funeral, she again calls me over...yep, she asked how much I weighed!!
I don't know if she really wants to know or really cares, it may just be a special bond we share. But it is hilarious and the the first question everyone asks me is if Thelma asked! She has gotten very mean since her stroke, hurtful to a lot of people that love her, but I will always hold a special place in my heart for Thelma!

MEK in AZ said...

Goldie - First of all, I was laughing my ass off when I read you grabbed your purse - cuz I know how much you LOVE your purses - totally forgetting that you JUST WON FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! I would have grabbed that sucker too!!!

MO - I agree - a wrong girl went home - the last one!! I was really hoping that she would go far!!

Scirish - your SIL story sounds like a really bad blonde joke!!

I'm trying to think of some "bad family" stories..

My horrorscope tells to put aside unfinished projects unless I can tie up the loose ends quickly - guess that means those damn rodeo tags!! LOL

Lynn D said...

Good Morning Owls!!

Scirish 1st Wahoo!! I loved you SIL story!! My advice don't ever match wits with the witless! LOL

Amicus: Thank you! I am glad you had a morning laugh! This is just one story I could tell on those sisters! I have actually seen them get into bitch slapping and choking!!

Hey MEK: These women can be crazy. That is why I changed the names. I know they would hunt me down!!

Goldie: Good morning! I loved you casino story! I would have grabbed my purse too! Even if I had to run out naked and on fire!

Mo: I have to laugh and be entertained otherwise they would surely piss me off and drive me crazy!! Aunt Betsy was the one when I was about 13 that announced to everybody at Easter "Oh look lynnepie is getting boobies"!!! That Bitch!!! My boy cousins thought that was a hoot and followed me around all day to point and say look boobies!

MEK in AZ said...

MO- (as I whisper), please lean in, "so, how much do you weigh??!!!" as she says softly,....

and then RUNS for fear of being bitch slapped!!! :-)

love ya!!! and I understand how that question is NO ONES business!!

Maureen said...

MEK... I think I am becoming a big Brooke fan. And I love Jason Castro and David Archuleta. (I want to adopt them both!!)But I really do like David Cook (can't stand his hairdo!) lately and David Hernandez. It is confusing!!

And you are right...the boardroom was awesome on Celeb. Apprentice! I am glad Oma went homa!!

GOLDIE...should we start calling you HOldie!!

SANDIE...are you still sick? feel better soon. And when are the boys going to blog again? {{{hugs}}}

goldie said...

So MO- how much do you weigh?? LOL- that was in honor of Thelma.

Damn right MEK! I wasn't going to loose a purse AND the money to buy a new one!
It has been the family joke now for years (about 5 since this happened) that when someone says something stupid we reply with 'Are you taking your purse and make-up?'
She swears she has no idea why she asked about the make-up.

Maureen said...

MEK...I left out the part that she wanted me to climb into her hospital bed with her so she could ask!! I drew the line at that part!
And I won't bitch slap ya! Although it may be fun...hmmmmmm!!!!

And for all those that wonder...I weigh more then a loaf of bread but less then a refrigerator. I hope that clears it up for you ;)

BREAKING NEWS........

LYNN HAS BOOBIES! (And one hangs in her grocery cart!)

bwahahahahaha

Lynn D said...

MEK, MO and Goldie: I ended up watching part of the apprentice last nite because I caught your comments yesterday before I toddled off to bed. I don't like the show but was curious! Whoa Omarosa! What was up with that trying to out someone you don't even know for sure is gay! Took my breath away!! Like I said I don't watch the show but enjoyed watching her get fired!

Amicus: Could you believe the vote on Survivor last nite???? These people are nuts! And who thought up that injury inducing game??? I was afraid for all of them!

Lynn D said...

Mo: Are you channeling Aunt Betsy??? For your information I have two boobies and they both hang in the grocery cart if I don't wear a bra!

PS I won't tell you what they weigh either!

goldie said...

lynn- I was ready to go get her myself. I don't necessarily get offended easily- but homophobia is something I can not under any circumstances tolerate. I was just waiting for everyone in the room to blast her and was sorry they didn't. She made is sound like being homosexual was a bad thing. I did LOVE what Piers did and lmao!

Good morning!

What a great topic! Lynn it was a great story, thanx for sharing!

The first lunatic in my family that comes to mind is one of my cousin's husband.

He thinks he's ELVIS.

Yes, dresses like him, talks like him, etc. And he SINGS (ugh).

Last time I saw him was at a huge family reunion. We were at my uncle's house on the lake in McHenry, IL.

Someone had set up a Mr. Microphone, or karioke machine so everyone could hear. This is a very large Italian family, so lots of loud talking!

Elvis hogged the microphone for most of the day, serenading us with his singing (ugh). My uncle Tony (short, elderly man, who was hosting the reunion) finally got fed up, went to Elvis and literally grabbed the microphone out of his hand, said "GIVE ME THAT FUCKING THING". Then proceeded to tell him how awful his singing was, just berated him into the microphone in front of everyone.

Everyone just roared in laughter, even Elvis took the bitch slap pretty well.

Looking forward to more great stories!

Congrats again Scirish!

Lynn, we are very confused about Survivor too. I'm not liking this season too much so far.

Big Brother is disappointing too. Has to be the skankiest group ever.

The Bachelor starts a week from Monday! haha.

MEK in AZ said...

EBJ - nothing worse than a BAD Elvis impersonator!!

AND - it's almost time to start counting...

"AMAZING" women!!!

I missed the first night of this Survivor season and didn't really like the concept of Fan vs. Fave - so I haven't watched at all..

Idol - I like the three David's - but the young one is starting to really get on my last nerve with his "oh I'm so surprised I'm good" act........ it's getting old..

AND - Omarosa really pissed me off last night!!!! I was SO happy to see her go -

Lynn D said...

Goldie: I was waiting for someone to call her out too! But Trump seems to be a not so closet homophobe to me!!!

I loved what piers did also, cracked me up!!

My feeling about all of it was if you are going to be in business you have to deal with all types of people! Period! If you can't You are fired!

EBJ: Ok you got me! No Elvi in my family! LOL

Survivor is driving me crazy! These people seem determined to lose! Why would you not vote out the weakest link at this stage? Yeah Joel was an idiot and really wanted to run things, but pull it together and vote him out later! Geez I keep asking do they really watch this show? Is it hunger? The sun? Lack of water?? Use your brain.

Lynn D great story!!

I have a sister (four years older) who...well lets just say the lights are on but there isn't always someone home. lol!

She told me one day about this headache she had. She was driving and had to keep squinting and it was giving her a headache.

I said. "Didn't you have sunglasses on?"

"Yes" she said, "That's what I couldn't understand. But when I reached up to push them on my nose farther I poked myself in the eye...I only had one lens in the glasses."

How can someone put glasses on with only one lens and not know it?
Hopefully that didn't inherit that gene!

Way to go DJ!! Glad Rosie took the time to say hi to Laurie. Too often she wastes the space re-answering the same question or replying to an idiot. IMHO

IS CG a Grandma yet?
How is Paula today?
Iteach- hope all is well
Dianne- hope your granddaughter is better
Tink-sending you warm wishes. I am sure yesterday was difficult.

Survivor at least mixed it up yesterday with the tribes. I disagree a bit though about the voting- I think Cherie was really smart to change the vote up. Chet maybe worthless, but like she said, he can be a pawn anytime. That will probably get her at least another week before she goes.

And holy crap- do they get to sue if their legs get infected and cut off because of some stupid game? Yikes there was some serious tree hiting go on there.

BB is a weird bunch this year. I kinda like Joshua and Sharon though. And Chelsia.

Hi Owls!! Golly, I've missed you guys. I've had that awful, awful flu and I just haven't even had the strength or will to get on the computer for more than a few minutes. Thanks to everyone who sent me such kind myspace comments. I'm feeling so much better--still have this annoying lingering cough but I can handle that. (Except for peeing myself when I have a bad coughing fit--what's with that??? Jeez, I hate getting old.)

I've read all the wonderful blogs but not all the wonderful comments. I'm sorry--I'm not sure I'll ever get caught up on all of them. I'm sure I missed a lot of fun!

Lynn D, I have funny aunts, too! Your story reminded me so much of my mom's side of the family. One of Mom's sisters gives everyone a fit. She can be so nasty and nothing makes her happy. My mom handles her well and laughs at all her silly nastiness, after all what else can you do? All my aunts are white-haired except Mom. She's a natural red-head and her gray blends so nicely that her sisters swear she has it colored or highlighted. It's funny to hear them go on and on about it while Mom just tells them to go ahead and believe whatever they want. (She really hasn't ever colored her hair and she's so proud of that!)

I wish good thoughts and prayers to everyone who needs them! WTG DonnaJean and Laurie for getting a Rosie comment!

Moweenie, thanks for missing me and Luc & Remy! They'll be blogging today, I hope. :) BTW, I like the same idol-wanna-be's as you!

Carol, thanks for the nest! I love the new layout--it's like Luc & Remy's!

Well, speaking of the giant poodles, they are bugging me to go outside but it's raining so hard I don't want to let them out!! Yuck.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Good Morning everyone!

WOW, what a surprise that Rosie answered me after, I don't know, hundreds of times I sent a comment!

Thank you Carol, for re-posting it for everyone here at the Nest! That was so very sweet of you!!

I wasn't trying to be rude with my comment. It just struck me funny (not in a ha ha funny) way that she would say that in her blog, being the child advocate that she is.

To me it was sort of like "a tiny touch of Down's", or "being just a little bit pregnant". Either you are, or you aren't.

I don't believe Rosie was being mean or anything of the sort. Maybe she meant the child was small?? What do you all think? Other than that comment, her blog that day was very nice.

I am so enjoying reading about everyone's crazy families!!!Old Aunties (especially the Old Maids) are the funniest.

I had a Great-Aunt Eula with a twin sister named Aunt Bula. Yes, tht's their REAL names!!! I can't remember them very well, as they both passed when I was very young.

But I do remember Aunt Eula being the laziest of the two, and this story was told to me by one of my Uncles about when he and his brothers were young.

After a family gathering, when it was time to clear the table and do the dishes she would say in her VERY loud voice to my uncles (whose job it was to help clean up) "I'm just going to sit down for just a minute boys, call me when it's time to wash the dishes, and I'll come help". Well, of course, being the polite little boys they were (LOL) they would end up doing all the work, and just as soon as they were done, Aunt Eula would "wake up" and say "Now, just why didn't you call me, I said I wanted to help".

Well, one time, when they had a very large Family dinner, the same thing happened, as usual. But this time, the boys, (my father included) made lots of noise in the kitchen, ran water etc, pretending to do all the clean-up and dishes. About 10 minutes later Aunt Eula sauntered into the kitchen with her question all ready to be asked. Well, you should have seen the expression on her face, when she saw ALL THE MESS!!! Nothing had been done! The boys, said, "OK, Aunt Eula, now its YOUR turn!" and they turned and ran away!!!

You can imagine the trouble they were all in when my Grandpa found out!!! This was in the day, when you ran away from home until dark because you knew you would have to go outside, pick a "switch" off the tree and bring it in for your corporal punishment!!!

This story is just one of so many my dear Uncle Jim and my Dad would tell. The good old days, as they called it. The 30's and 40's, growing up in Iowa.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and weekend. What are everyone's plans?

Till later, Peace and love to all, DonnaJean

Donna Jean-- Glad rosie answered you... Prayers for little Laurie..

You made me think of stories my Grandma told about my dad...

He and "Uncle" Jack.. (Wondered on the farm during the depression and never left... Ran the place)...
Oh well he and Dad were onry boys... she would tell stories about them sticking her in the rain barrel and rolling her down the hill at the farm...

LYNND: Except for my sister, my brother and a few cousins--all of my family is gone. I grew up in Az. and they were all in Ohio, so I didn't get to know them very well.

My father's mom was a terror though. She got in an arguement over my mom's family with my dad when I was 8. It was so bad my dad had a mini-stroke. For years after that she wouldn't talk to my parents. She did, however, cruise the streets and try to catch us grandkids away from the house which kind of freaked us out. All the neighborhood kids were terrified of her and when they would see her car they'd yell "It's the grandma!!" and run. She and my folks made up about six years later and I got to know her much better. I always thought of her as "the grandma" though.

Pushing 'post' is gonna be a little difficult on this one..

Mo - I thought the same thing after reading IBB's comment - WTF did you get at Michael's!!!

IBB - I am only 3 1/2 years older than you - and I have NO idea WHAT stories you think you can tell. LOL

I also had that same problem at Michael's - EVERYTHING is on SALE - so that you CAN'T use the coupon - Don't you just love to see the expression on someone's face when you "pay it forward" with a coupon!!! :-)

Nowmercy - when you are done de-cluttering your mess, you can come over here and help me out!!

Sandie - sorry you have been under the weather - that flu crap just clings on...

Donna Jean - congrats on the answered comment..

Aloha Kakahiaka Blog Owls...

Aloha from the warm, sunny, thunderstorm free sate of Hawaii.

It was so so nice to sleep in my own bed last night...you have no idea!!! After two plane rides that we're both delayed, (which involved racing to catch my connecting flight in Phoenix as it was in a deifferent Terminal ugh)and then tracking down my luggage until 11PM upon my arrival here in Honolulu and fighting with a Filipino cab driver who "Claimed" to not have change....the bastard!! He ended up getting a 8 dollar tip on a 12 dollar fare as all I had was twenties on me. Well he got a scolding (finger pointing and everything) BUT

I am home.

Thank you to all that kept me company via cell texts, phone calls, e-mails and good wishes.

I think the total mileage by car was 2503, and the miles by air was 7045. Thats alot of traveling in 6-1/2 days.

And I laughed the majority of the way because of you guys.

Ill be back later to post about the TOTD.

LYNND: On my walk yesterday I passed a house where a brother and sister were fighting in the front yard. I mean fists flying and they were screaming at each other...I just stopped and looked at them. (I knew them) They stopped and looked at the ground sheepishly, then walked inside. I didn't hear the fighting resume. Felt kinda good about that!

The neighbors across the street were something else. They fought all the time. Even now the sons, who are the same age as I am, throw hubcaps and hammers at each other. When they fight, I leave the room! God knows what'll come through the window. But they are moving out and hopefully the neighborhood will benefit from it!

Gotta go get my new sucker!! (that was for you BARB!)

Waving Hi to singing AMICUS, first SCIRISH, rodeo tag MEK, nekkid GOLDIE, unfoaded MO, Elvis' sis EBJ, shopping IBB, response from Rosie DJ, recuperating SANDIE, sleepy JODI, swamped NOWMERCY, blog writing LYNND, missing TINA, and the just plain wonderful SACBARB. Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Sending prayers and love to TINKA and DIANNE.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks, MEK! My Mom just told me to put Vicks on the soles of my feet and then put socks on before I go to bed. She said my coughing will stop in minutes. She heard it somewhere--I'm going to try it. Has anyone else heard of such a thing?

Thanks, Zona! Good for you for walking! I have a friend from Scotland who calls a vacuum a "hoover." The first time she mentioned "hoovering" in reference to her husband, I thought I'd fall off my chair laughing.

Thanks, SacBarb. I'm much better.

Lynn D, hey! Maybe we're cousins! LOL

Welcome home, K-Girl. It's nice to travel and then really nice to be back in your own bed.

Jodi, have fun watching your son's play. I love watching my kids do those things. I get so teary for some reason! When my oldest son was in 8th grade he was Daddy Warbucks in "Annie." I was so proud of him you would have thought he was on Broadway!

Congrats, CG! I just love little babies and look forward to the day I'll be a grandma. Well, I hope not too soon since my oldest is just 19 . . .

Just got news that my middle son's lacrosse tournament has been cancelled for tonight because of the weather. :( Now it's going to be a lllooonnnggg day tomorrow since they'll have to fit in tonight's games. **big sigh**

Hope everyone is having a good Friday. It's so nice to be back in this cozy nest.

Amicus...isn't that the best "get going in the morning" song...I love the history you have with it....and I love hearing it for the same reason-my Mom used to sing it (not well, I might add but with great enthusiasm!.) Thanks for mentioning my page.

Zona...that sucks that your sucker no longer sucks! Great story about the Grandma...thank you for sharing it!

Donnajean...woohoo! Isn't it the coolest feeling when Rosie responds to a question or comment. She answered a couple of mine last year when she was first answering questions and it was easier to get her to notice. I think of you and your Laurie girl often and hope health is improving for the both of you!

Congrats, Grandma CG! Great news...welcome to the world wee baby CG!!

Flying back in to read more crazy family stories and tell on my Hubby's family. What a fun topic this is.

My introduction to some of my hubby's family came when I was preggers with our first child. We were invited to dinner at one of the Aunt's and a bunch more Aunts and Uncles were there. (His Mom had 10 siblings) Anyway we had a typical Okie dinner, fried chicken, potatoes & gravy, beans, okra and some other normal veggies that I can't remember. After we all ate dinner, his Aunt brought out a decadent looking chocolate cake and began to pass slices down the table. Aunt Grace was sitting next to me and when she got her cake she asked me to pass her the beans. I thought I heard her wrong and I said "what?" She repeated her request to pass the beans so I did and she poured pinto beans all over cake and ate it. I had to leave the table afraid that I would lose my dinner. Oh, and I didn't eat any of the okra.

Iteach: Hi! Waving a wing at ya!

Sacbarb: I vomited a little in my mouth reading that! Pinto Beans on Cake!!! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

JoeyfromSC said...

First of all, I love the new color scheme Carol!:)

Okay, this topic REALLY hits home with me! LOL

I know many of you have heard me talk about my Aunt Shirley! She's the one that lives in VA and I moved to be closer to her(well, one of the reasons)! I love her with all my heart, do not get me wrong...BUT, LOL, She has always been the type of woman to TELL me how to live my life instead of offer the best advice!! It gets really annoying...I have talked until I'm blue in the face to get her to change...I have come to accept her for the way she is and have to let 99% of what she says roll off my back! HAHA

She just turned 60 this past October....Sometimes she acts 6! LMAO

She has been there for me, but BOY do I have to put up with a lot to get the good advice out of her!

Part of why she is the way she is(IMHO) is because she lost her husband in a motorcycle accident in 1984 and 6 yrs later, lost her ONLY daughter(at age 18) to a car wreck!:( It's been devastating for our family, but I do believe since my brothers and I are ALL she has, that is the reason she's so clingy...I mean since moving here, she smothers me..I kinda knew it would be that way, but I try to find a balance!

Well, that's my Aunt story in all it's glory! LOL

She can be so funny and fun to be around when she's NOT telling me HOW to live my life!!

I ♥ you Aunt Shirley!

sacBarb said...

Lynn D: Yeah, I almost vomited thinking about it again and since I was pregnant at the time it was all I could do to keep my dinner down. Thank goodness my hubby didn't have any of the weird eating habits that some of his family had.

Although, I have to say my Italian family used to eat some things that others would not even consider eating, but I will spare you all that.

WOW!!!! My first FOAD on the lovely Owls Nest!!!

Could be because it was a "novel".
Or that I had to stop several times to help Laurie and come back, or who knows why! All I know is that all my wonderful "prose" is gone! Vanished. Off some where in Cyber Space!

To capsulize, briefly, Congrats to ~~CG~~ on the birth of her beautiful grandson!!! Have lots of fun rocking him, changing him, and just plain loving him up!!!

And to ~~Sandie~~ so very sorry you are sick. Both Miss Laurie and I have had the same thing, and finally after almost 6 weeks, are finally feeling better.

My home remedies are simple. Lots and lots of fluids, (water, water and more water!) Jack Daniels, lemon & honey and Earl Grey tea, and chicken soup. Homemade is ALWAYS the best, but the Mrs. Grass in the blue box is wonderful!!!

I so hope you get to feeling better real soon. Oh, and another thing, try to sleep with at least two pillows. And sleeping upright is even better! (not very comfortable, but you do need that sleep!)This helps with the mucus. Mucinex is a great OTC drug that will help break up that nasty stuff.

And finally, if I can remember all I had written, again Thanks to everyone for the congrats about Rosie answering my post. After posting so MANY times, I am so glad that she chose this one, that was actually for Miss Laurie. That meant so much!

Have a great Friday night everyone! See ya'll this weekend!

Good evening Owlettes!! I tried to upload Jake's pics from his program. The Mt. Rushmore one didn't work, but I got the one of him with his Thomas Jefferson "shoe box" report!! I hope everyone has a great night!!!

This story kind of falls under today's topic, but also has shades of "out of the mouth of babes"!! When Jake was about 3 years old, that Christmas my Aunt got all the boys these little suction cup guns. Long story short, they were having a great time shooting the suction cup darts at the patio door. Poor Jake's wouldn't stick - so I told him he had to get the darts wet so they would stick. Well, it wasn't long before my little 3 year old was doing this little sing songy......"Ya got to lick it before you stick it"!!!!! Oh, my hell......if you could've seen the faces and laughter from my cousins and my aunts and uncles.....PRICELESS!!!

Shirley: I've gone looking for my glasses before when they were already on my face. I'm so used to wearing them I didn't feel the weight, and I had forgotten I put them on. Of course, the fact that I was able to see should have been my first clue where they were. LOL!

Jodi: Your son was my favorite in that play, because I was born and raised in the Land of Lincoln. :)

IBB,
I guess I don't remember much about Cerie from the last time, because I thought she was the sweet and quiet one. LOL!
I love Game Show Network! I only have basic cable now so I don't get to watch it anymore, but it's the channel I miss the most. :)

goldie said...

Damn this marching by myself is no fun- where is MEK or Shirley when I need them?????

Hope you feel better tomorrow Sandie.

Sandie said...

Thanks, Goldie!

Oh Maureen, thanks so much for being such a faithful reader of the "tails" of Luc & Remy on their blog. I'm so glad you enjoy it.

MEK in AZ said...

Sandie - the vicks will work better if you just smear it ALL over your nose, throat and chest!! trust me!!

Goldie - glad you found the pick and there was NO "dancing" here tonight!!

IBB - making you another one as we speak - I did stop at one...

Cpgem - how are you doing on all those martinis you had earlier??

Zona said...

Hi everyone! Just got home with my new sucker! I'll be back, I want to go try it out on something that needs sucking! ;)

Sandie said...

Thanks, MEK, I'll just smear it all over me!

Ummm, Zona, you'd better be careful with that. We don't want to read about any bobitizing accidents . . .

goldie said...

I think MEK is right Sandi- just smear it all over and you can't go wrong. Might get a mentholatum (sp?) high but what the hell!!

MEK in AZ said...

MO - your drink is mixed and waiting for you!!

Goldie - you will be waiting a LONG time for those "older sister" stories!! :-)

Zona - be careful - don't want to read about you and Mr. Zona having one of those "funny" ER visits!!

Sandie - gotta love the smell of vicks... as kids, it was aspirin, vicks and sucrets (I hope I spelled that right) - they were cough drops..

ibebold said...

Goldie---Are you trying to get me in trouble...???

MEK in AZ said...

YES, she is trying to be "Granny Kay"!!! :-)

slurp...

I loved Sucrets! And the little tins were fun to fill with all my special treasures!

And my mom always sprayed NeoSinephrine (sp) up our noses and I would choke and gag! To this day I can't handle any kind of nasal spray

East Bay J said...

Hi everyone!!!

Hope you all had a nice Friday.

I'm so happy that CG is a grandma! Congrats to you!

Goldie, Paula the kitty cat princess seems to be doing good. She hates getting her medicine and hates getting the fluid under her skin. She forgives us fairly quick, luckily.

I really appreciate everyone who has asked, sent messages, even thought about her, because it means sooo much to me. And it helps her!

MEK YES, almost time for the AMAZING Bachelor!

My huz and I started counting all the times in 1 show that someone said AMAZING. We started laughing and lost count, one time it was something like 25 or 30 times we heard that word. That is just in a 1 hour show!

We wanted Cherie to get voted off Survivor last night. We thought it would be Chet. I feel so sorry for that guy, seeing him get slammed into a tree was painful to watch.

SacBarb, the BABB will be on Aug. 30th. I hope you bring Sharon again!

DJ I hope you and Laurie Elizabeth will be attending!

I have heard from several people who are not in the bay area, who have expressed interest in coming! I'm so thrilled at the possibility of meeting more blog buddies!

(Now I have to figure out a way to pass up MEK and Whab!)

Jodi how sweet that your son got to play President Lincoln!! :)

Waving to everyone, I really, really enjoyed all the stories today!

goldie said...

Drink up girls- its Friday night!!

I am signing off, contacts bothering me so going to go get ready for bed.

I am leaving you drinkers with bottles of water and aspirin for the morning.

There are extra brownies on the counter. Help yourself.

East Bay J said...

MEK I just turned on The Price Is Right since you said it was good!

MEK in AZ said...

EBJ - are you saying that Whabby and I are UNINVITED??!! boo hoo..

Goldie - I can't remember if we got flavored kids aspirin or not..

MO - yes, the tin was always fun after all the sucrets were gone - and those little papers that they were wrapped in.. too funny..

Now - there are SO many different meds to chose from - you have NO idea if you are getting the right thing.. maybe our mothers had it easy with the simple choices..

goldie said...

I'm glad she is tolerating it and forgiving you EBJ.

I agree about Chet- it was painful to watch the poor guy get slammed around. I am just surprised he hasn't asked to be voted off yet.

Good night all- see you tomorrow!

MEK in AZ said...

Nite, Goldie...

cpgem - glad you are enjoying the drinks!!!

EBJ - you will ENJOY the show - the whole thing is full of GOOD stuff!! but - don't miss the end!!

ibebold said...

Goldie---Too cute... Don't have to use any names!!!

Maureen, MEK and Lynn_D...thanks for your wise advice and kind words regarding this frickin', energy-sapping bug! To anyone that has it, take it easy and I hope you feel better soon!

Amicus...what a great Grandpa to pass on such a fabulous passion. And what a gift that song is to you...comfort food for the soul. Wonderful!

Okay, I am flipping through the channels and came across a show called "Ten Years Younger". Has anyone seen that show and if so, do you find it all disturbing that they put people, primarily women,in a glass box and have strangers comment on their looks! So degrading!

Westcoast Owls...Grey's Anatomy Alert...rerun on right now!!!

ibebold said...

MEK-- I think EBJ meansd pass you in number of blog buddy meetings!!!

Maureen said...

those childrens aspirin was orange, i think. and chewable.
i had a cousin that when she was about 4, she thought it was candy and ate the whole bottle. luckily, she took the bottle to her mom and asked for more. my cousin didn't have a car and her husband was at work, so they had to rush her by ambulance to the hospital and pump her stomach.

GOLDIE...good night and thanks or the brownies. yummo

East Bay J said...

OK, between my huz and I, we bought 6 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, and they were all delivered this week.

So we have open: Samoas, Thin Mints, and Trefolds at the moment. (For some unknown reason, the 2 boxes of peanut butter cookies remain unopened).

When I was a Girl Scout (100 years ago) they were 50cents a box. Now they are $3.50 and the boxes are much smaller.

ibebold said...

MEK-- Yes we got the orange flavored bayers childrens aspirin...

ibebold said...

Goldie--- Good Night!!

East Bay J said...

I wanna play PLINKO! haha

MEK, of course I'm not uninviting you and Whab! I meant that I want to pass you up in the number of blog buddies I meet. :)

It wouldn't be the same without you two.

ibebold said...

EBJ--- Ummm Girl scout cookies... that means mine should be in soon...
I love the Thin Mints!!!

MEK in AZ said...

EBJ - and when we sold Girl Scout cookies - we had that little cardboard box that we had to carry door to door - no taking orders!! I remember 25 cents a box and when they went to 50 cents, people went into an uproar!!

BUT - if you want the Thin Mint cookies all year round - the Keebler Grasshopper cookie is the exact same thing!!! (sorry girl scouts!!!)..

MEK in AZ said...

EBJ - thank goodness - i was going to have to get my pout on!! and that is NEVER a pretty site!! LOL

I was thinking those children aspirins has to have had a flavor - or we wouldn't have liked that chewable taste..

ibebold said...

MEK... Almost the same... Have them side by side and you can tell a difference...

ibebold said...

See i knew EBJ meant number number of blog buddy meetings!!!

MEK in AZ said...

They taste the EXACT same - they are just shaped different

MEK in AZ said...
