Creativity!

by scirish

Creativity

I have been giving a lot of thought lately to creativity and how it affects the feeling of fulfillment.

I have tried to do many things over the years; they just went bad very quickly.

I mean, how many unfinished hooked rug/pillow thingy's can one person have?

I tried embroidery…I finished one thing, and I finished that because I wanted to give it to an older friend who loved that kind of stuff and it would mean something to her. She could have done it herself in half the time..

I tried painting water colors too…I ended up with more water than color and made a mess out of the whole house in the process.

I tried writing and couldn't keep my own attention.

I tried knitting, I still have the scarf that is an inch long and has been ripped out at least five times. The yarn is starting to pill.

I tried making my own clothes….a gunny sack looks better.

I love going to flea markets and tag sales and decorated my house with "finds". I'd like to think that it works.

I started making jewelry; I'd like to think that it works also….

I think all these missteps were experiments in finding something that would "round out" my life, to balance out the linear thinking me. I don't know if it worked, but even with all the disasters, I had fun exploring/discovering my creative side ….I am a walking example of there being something for everyone

What are your stories? Have you had crafty disasters? Successes? How important is being creative to you? Or is it not important?

Sweet!! I got 1st.

I have no creativity. Zero, zilch, nadda. No knitting, no crocheting, no drawing a straight line. ZIP.
I do however admire those crafty little souls (~waving at MEK~) who not only come up with ideas, but then can make them happen!

I hope you all have a good day today. :)

Shirley- you are an angel. I am starved! You have a great day too.

Yay, Shirley is here, AND she is cooking breakfast!!! I've missed you!

Haven't had a chance yet to read the Blog , so off I go.

What in the world am I doing up so early???

Love ya all, DonnaJean

Thanks Goldie.

Congrats on 1st.

I did try knitting a scarf one time but it ended up in a triangle shape...I kept loosing stitches.

I wrote some poems a long time ago and a few of them have been published in a little local booklet.

Me again- I was not allowed to get on my internet last night. For some reason the parties that rule the internet service declined me. Apparently not just me, however it felt like a persoanl injustice to me at the time. Soo, I have come to the conclusion that it is not my computer it is the frigging internet provider. After 10 minutes on hold the message says "if you are in the Middleton area, we are experiencing difficulties and are aware of the problem". No frigging shit! How about putting that message at the beginning of the hold time ASSHOLE!

Had to get that off my chest. MEK- sorry I couldn't tell you who won. I missed you all-and apparently according to Mr. Goldie- I get a bit cranky when I don't get my cyber fix!

Good Morning Early Owls.

Goldie - Congrats on 1st. You beat Shirley because she was busy making our breakfast.

Shirley - How great to see you posting so early and wow, making our breakfasts too. I will have pancakes and bacon ( my favourite) and tea. I brought along my own O.J.

Donna Jeans - What a pleasant surprise finding you here so early as well. Lovely to see you. How is Laurie doing?

OK, I am the WORLD'S WORST CRAFTY/CREATIVE PERSON!!! I admit it.

Both of my older daughters are VERY creative and crafty. My best friend Angela, is also very creative. She can do ANYTHING!!! knit, crochet, rubber stamp, make beautiful cards, paint, can decorate gourds (you in the know, can appreciate that, they are gorgeous) makes and sells the most beatuiful beadwork, you name it, that girl can do it!

So, what happened to me? And what do these other people in my life see in me, if I don't partake in their creativity???

I tried crocheting when my girls were young, and I think I too have about a 6 inch square laying around somewhere! It was going to be an afghan.

But, I enjoy and appreciate all the lovely things Angela makes and gives me, and my daughters come and help me decorate my home.

And, then, I make them dinner. I know!!! My one claim to fame, I like to cook!!! And I can cook pretty darn well!!!

OK, maybe all isn't lost! I am very creative in the kitchen. I am by no means a Martha Stewart type, heaven forbid. But I can create my own recipes, or add a little here and take away a little there and walah! A new variation on an old recipe!

Of course, all this "creativity" in the kitchen is only if I am in the mood. And lately, I haven't really been in the mood.

I have so many beautiful cookboks, I just love reading and looking at all the pictures. But do I use the recipes, no. They are just "ART" for my kitchen!

So, I am looking forward to reading about everyone else's creativity challenges and successes.

I know we already have several very creative Owlettes here. Scrapbooking, card-making, organizing and making pretty Tinka's MySpace!!!

I am off now to wake up Miss Laurie (who will be VERY grouchy for about a half hour) get her ready for her Day Program, and then I will crawl back to bed and think of all the creative projects I could, but won't, be doing today!!!

Peace and love to everyone! DonnaJean and Laurie Elizabeth

Goldie - Cheer up my dear. You will feel better after Shirley's fantastic breakfast. I have read the comments. Now I will read the blog.

Tinkatia said...

Donna Jean - Cooking can be very creative and I think you are an excellent one from what you have described. I must tell you that Amicus is also a wonderful teacher. My last two lay-outs have been entirely made by me. I still haven't got back up to the blog.

DonnaJean said...

Good Morning to you too Shirley and Tinka!!!

And Shirley, honey you can spell my name any old way you want!!! Just so long as you are here to do it!!!

Eggs over easy, some toast, (sourdough if you have it), some V8juice, and maybe a slice or two of bacon, and I will be so happy!!! Thank you so much for offering to make breakfast for us today.

And Tinka, Dreama sent me that darling picture of you with your two beautiful fur babies! I love it.

Miss Laurie is doing much better, thank you for asking, and I can hear her calling me now that she has had a few minutes to "wake-up" so I better run.

Have a lovely day everyone, I'll be back later to check in!

Good morning!

Congrats Goldie! Sorry you had internet problems last night. Dontcha just hate when that happens?

I have a big problem with Myspace, for some reason, my litte lap top can't handle it, and if I sign into Myspace, I kick the router off and we have to unplug and start all over.

It only happens with Myspace for some reason!

Shirley, hi! Great to see you this early.

Hi Donna Jena and Tinka!

I am not very creative at all, but right now I have to get ready for work, so will have to post more later.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning Tinkatia and EBJ.
Actually EBJ it is almost noon here in Nova Scotia. It is snowing today. We are suppose to get 10 possible 15cm...that's about 6 or 8inches of snow. Another fun day in the Maritimes.

Tinkatia said...

Scirish - Another great post. I think you are creative. You are a very good writer. That's a claim to fame right there.

Having been a teacher for almost 40 years, creativity has been my life, both in what I did and what I tried to encourage in my students.
Creative people are left brained people. Right brained people are very neat and organized. Left brained people are not. That has always been my excuse for having a messy craft room.
My mother was a great knitter. She doesn't remember now that she made everyone such beautiful bed spreads. My dining room table cloth was crocheted by her. It is lovely. I learned from her and for years I would be knitting sweaters etc. while watching T.V. Arthritis in my hands prevents that now. It's a fond memory however.
I love to write and have kept journals and stories for years. Sometimes I wonder if I want them read after I leave this earth but I don't have the heart to burn them.
Music has been a large part of my life. I always taught the choirs and the ukuklele groups in every school I taught.
My creativity now includes my computer. I love making imovies and iDVD's. Finding just the right music to go with just the right pictures gives me a thrill. So does making just the right card on each occasion.
I think there is creativity in all of us. You just have to be willing to take risks.

Tinkatia said...

East Bay J - I don't know what it is about myspace. It must need something special. I have a new Mac and I have only used one quarter of the memory it has but Safari has difficulty supporting Myspace. I am going to get Camino installed just for myspace. That is the Mac's version of Mozilla Fire. Maybe it's all our picture comments. Someone out there must know the answer to this.

Shirley - I don't know about you but all of my relatives in Nova Scotia are so sick of the snow this year. I think they are all getting depressed by it. Last year they had a warm winter with hardly any snow.
Can we say Global Warming??

Donna Jean - I am glad you liked my picture. I will send you more. I forget you don't have myspace. Give Laurie a hug for me.

I think I am alone once again. I will check my messages and come back and see who has arrived. Have a great day all owls everywhere.

Morning Glories!

Yay Goldie was first!!!

Scrishy love your blog!

First I want to say this will probably end up being a novel as usual! LOL

Creativity I think comes in many forms! Anyone who can think outside the box or color outside the lines is creative to me! Doesn't matter if you are crafting or have a new idea to help with your housework.

That said like you I have tried many creative outlets over the years.

I have tried embroidery and it just makes me bored. Ditto with cross stitch.

Crocheting was a mess and knitting I only learned to do one stitch and I would end up with these really uneven and long scarves that would still be on the needles because I could not figure out how to finish them! LOL

I sewed when the kids were small and even made my son a suit one year and made a garment bag and carry all but for some reason it never held my interest.

I did do our last kitchen in a garden theme with stenciled lattice fence all the way around and created my own flowers and bushes and turned all the light switches into bird houses. It did turn out pretty good if I say so myself. But it was a huge project.

I tried water coloring on silk. Just say disaster!

Like you there are still so many things I would like to try but either don't have the energy or time. Making Jewelry would be at the top. Learning to quilt (but it is so exacting with measurements and what not it would drive me crazy) Mosaics is another interest etc...

I love to brain storm about found objects and what I could turn them into. Just look in my garage. I have an old solid wood door with a single glass window that still has the original hardware and skeleton key. I am going to turn it into a cupboard some day. I have it worked out in my mind I just need some one to build the cupboard to attach it to.

Same with the old windows, the antique berry picking box ( want to turn it into a table), the two old bird cages that will someday be hanging herb gardens, etc.... I am never short on ideas just gumption! LOL

Like you Scirish I have decorated my house with my finds and it reflects me whether anyone else thinks so I like it!

I do know that when I tap into to my creative side I feel a sense of peace and joy even tho I am always my harshest critic.

Oh for time and energy all at the same time!

PS Donna Jean I can't cook! I always admire people who have that creativity!

Lynn D said...

Whew I was right a novel! Sorry gang.

Waving a wing at Shirley( happy to see you here woman!) Tinka, and EBJ!

I think you are all creative and wonderful people. I can tell by your posts!

MEK so glad to hear that you were able to get Mr. MEK home safely!

I will check back in a bit. As our friend Tinka says evidently I am a left brainer and need to work on some of my chaos! LMAO I love having a new excuse!

Tinkatia said...

Lynn - Good Morning. We so agree. Creativity is in all of us. It just takes different forms in different people. Loved your post. Some of your ideas are fantastic. When you finish your projects you should take pictures of them and post them to your myspace. I love looking at other's creations.

Lynn D said...

Tinka if I ever get them done I will! LOL

I have all these ideas for water fountains and lamps too! I tell you my brain just goes far a field sometimes!

Barbara_in_COviaWA said...

Lynn D was the one who said she wanted to shoot creamed corn with her thong!

Thanks for the blog today scirish!

Congrats on 1st goldie!

I be a crafty one! Or at least I try to be!

I love to make cards. I have made a few scrapbooks. I want to spend more time making the scrapbooks though. Remember....if anyone wants a b-day or christmas card just send your info to me on myspace and I will do it! I have a lot of addresses for Christmas cards, but I find out too late most of the time on myspace that a b-day is coming up to get it there on time.
I have tried the cheat knitting. I like it because it's easy. You know that loom kit that you can get at the craft stores. I made scarves for everyone a couple years ago. I have made costumes, but only with help from my friend Beth. She has made wedding dresses before! She helped me make a Southern Belle dress for Katie one year. It turned out really pretty. And I like photography.
AND......IT'S SNOWING HERE LIKE A SOB! IT'S ALMOST APRIL! WTF???

scirish said...

Whew! What a day...It's snowing,sleeting and raining!

Thank you all for the great comments

Tink...I think you are so right about being willing to take risks...sometimes I know I get bogged down by the little perfectionist being that floats around in my head sometimes

Lynndeee (hehe...that was a typo..but I like it) I was truly exhausted after reading your post...What fantastic ideas! Too bad we don't live closer..what a blast we would have playing with our "finds"

Off to have a nice hot soak...this crazy weather is wreaking havoc on my back

Jennifer said...

What a GREAT blog, Scirish! If you have seen some of my art (in my pics) you can tell I love to draw! I may not be the best, but I enjoy it just the same. I have experimented with colored pencils too (which took me awhile to get used to). I love to paint, but haven't done so in YEARS. I am sad that time does not always allow me to get started on a project!

Tink: I am so glad you gave me an explanation of why my house is always in a state of clutter! THANK YOU! ; ) I also agree with you and Lynn d when you say that we are all creative. I agree. Sometimes we just have to tap into it!

Goldie: congrats on #1

Shirley: Thanks for the breakfast! I would love to read some of your poetry (I think you should post them on your page). I have a couple of mine posted...but they aren't my best.

Donnajean: Cooking is definitely an art! I used to like to cook, but any more, I just find it a waste of my precious time! All the preparation and care one puts into cooking a meal is gone in minutes and there is nothing but dirty dishes to show for it! I guess I just don't find it rewarding!

Morning to you as well East Bay J! (and all those who post after me)!

scirish said...

Shirley...you got PUBLISHED???? OMGness. That is sooo cool!! Can we read some?

Jennifer said...

Morning Barb!

I have also tried to knit. My other grandma used to knit for all us grandchildren and we always had a fresh supply of hats, mittens and scarfs each winter! I found it too boring (and repetitive). I also tried cross-stitch and about went "cross-eyed" doing it!

I tried crafts for awhile too (and learned that was not my thing either as I ended up with blisters from the hot glue gun)!

I have always loved music. In fact, the first time around in college I was a music major (voice). It was my dream to learn how to write music so I could turn some of my poetry into music! However, after a couple of years of music theory...I found it sucked the joy out of my love of music!

I have always loved to draw, paint, and write and I feel my great when I have finished a project.

Like Tink and Lynn said, creativity is in us all. It is how we express ourselves. Creativity is more than visual arts and crafts. It's the way we find to express ourselves and we all have it. Sometimes we just don't recognize it as being "creativity"!

I don't know one owlette (or owl) in the nest who I don't feel isn't creative! We ALL are!

...jennifer now steps down off her soap box....

HUGS TO ALL!

Lynn D said...

Scirish: OMG if we lived closer we would need a warehouse for a studio! LOL

Shirley and Jennifer: I love that we have some poets in our midst. I could never get that down, to few words for me! LMAO

BarbWa: It is freaking snowing here too! I agree WTF All I hear is the furnace and propane burning awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy! Hmmm May have to send you my address to get one of your cards to add to my blog buddy collection! (((Hugs)))

Scirish and Jennifer the poems were written when I was a teenager and they are very dark. Some of the titles are

All Alone
Greed
Death
Suicide
Damn
Decisions

So you can see the topics aren't great. I don't think they are right for here.

Jennifer said...

oops...I meant to say I feel my 'greatest' not great...

Jennifer said...

Shirely, I think we had a lot of the same poems! (I too wrote most of mine in high school and they were very dark as well). But it is good to get the darkness out of us so we can allow light to filter in!

I think I threw most of mine out since. (As I didn't want my daughter to ever see them)!

Keep writing! It is very therapeutic!

Good Morning!!!

Happy Friday!!!

Goldie - congrats on FIRST!!!

Scirish - I triple love your blog - because I am the QUEEN of starting things and NEVER finishing them!!! I will elaborate in a bit..

but - from yesterday's comments!!

SacBarb - WHY is it that those desk clerks think that the computers in the lobby are THEIRS!!! I am amazed at how they tell you "Your ten minutes are UP" - when there isn't a soul in view of wanting to use the damn thing!!!!!!! It's just rude!!! There, I got that off my chest!!

Jodi and Zona - I LOVE chocolate milk also!!! and now I'm hungry for a donut!!!

Mary - I thought we were already friends!! :-) Can't wait to meet you in person also!!!

Okay - now, I am going to see who is awake and posting this am.!!!

Tinkatia said...

Amicus - I am so sorry you lost your stepgrandma Dori. Your myspace tribute to her is absolutely gorgeous. I just sat there for the longest time and looked at her picture and listened to the song. I feel like I know her and I went to her memorial. She would have been proud of what you did. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and always.

MEK in AZ said...

Goldie - SWEET that you made number one - and I totally understand about the "cyber fix" - it's frustrating when the Net doesn't work - but - not to worry - I googled the results and am NOT happy!!

Shirley - thanks for breakfast!!

Donna Jean - What are you doing up so early - I would have to go back to bed!!! LOL

Tinka - Good Morning!!!

EBJ - don't work TOO hard - AND, you need to let me know (and others coming) what hotels are close to your house - I've found a good airfare and want to combine that with hotel!! :-)

Good morning - Lynn D, Jennifer and Barb in WA!!!

I am So sorry that alot of you are getting now - I would much rather be cold than hot!! Which it is starting to get hot way to early!!

Tinkatia said...

Barbara - I have all the supplies to start scrapbooking. I have signed up for a course but have had to cancel 3 different times. I do scrapbooking with the computer and it's fun but I want to be able to do them like the ones you see in "Legally Blond 2" Maybe I will get to it this spring. Oh it is spring, well soon.

Scirish - I would like to live near Lynn too. What fun we could have and what a mess we could make.

Jennifer - I have seen your pictures and I think you are an artist. By the way you have the most gorgeous daughter. She is a real beauty.

Left brain and right brain learning is a fact. It has been well researched. The schools are now molding their curriculums taking into consideration that different children use different sides of their brains to learn. It is very interesting.

Shirley - I like 'lighter poems'. Those titles scare me. Thank you for breakfast. It was delicious.

Tinkatia said...

Mek - Good morning. I guess our prayers worked because you and Mr. Mek are safely home. Thank you God. Our weather is cold and rainy here. Zona sent me some heat but it didn't last long. How about you trying it today.

My unfinished projects!!!

When we moved to AZ, I was not working and thought if I took craft classes at Michael's - I would learn new things and make new friends!! Well, I never really met anyone but..

Soapmaking - I own EVERYTHING to make soap with and never to it..

Cake Decorating - Practice makes perfect and I haven't made one in ages - BUT- I took ALL the levels of Wilton Cake Decorating - and I could make some gorgeous creations..

Donna Dewberry One Stroke painting - OH - I purchased almost every kit she sold on QVC - thinking - she says anyone can do it - it's SOOOOOOOOo easy - WELL, I'm here to tell you - if you can't paint - you can't do Donna Dewberry - BUT - those kits are STILL in the closet...

I own boxes and boxes of cross-stitching stuff - I used to LOVE to do that - BUT - I was working on a snow covered church thing for my mom for Christmas and was trying SO hard to get it done - my father died and i haven't touched that thing since - SO, my mother never got that present and every time I try to finish it - I can't (and that was in 1991) - I know I need to finish it - and some day I will..

I also have The Last Supper almost complete on black canvas (cross stitch) - I just have all the outlining and backstitching to do - talk about tedious!!! LOL..

AND - then there is the obession and addiction of the scrapbooking supplies!!! we all know about that - NOW, I really need to get some albums put together.. OH - I took pictures of my purchases while in Texas and what I got with my 30% off coupon - I will have to post them!! LOL

I keep taking a million pictures and need to get them done!!!

I also have tried to journal several times - I go out and purchase those nice little books - write for a couple of days and then NOTHING......

I'll have to go rummage thru my upstairs and find what other things I have started and never finished!!! :-)

I think this is going to be a long post - SORRY!!!

MEK in AZ said...

FORTY!!!

MEK in AZ said...

Tinka - YES, everyone's thoughts and prayers got us home safely last night!! Mr. MEK want straight to bed - traveling is exhausting enough and then to be delayed like that!!!

He's golfing today - enjoying our beautiful weather!!!

I will be going to a scrapbook crop tonight - Gotta start cutting my papers to make some more CD album book thingy kits!!!!!

My creativity comes from scenic photography. Sometimes I just head out and drive on back roads for days looking for the magnificant perfect picture opportunites such as those during our wild flower season. Met Sacbarb and her friend Sharon for dinner and in between songs and during breaks we got to "talk sotry" some more. Sounds like they had a full day yesterday and I hope they have a great time on th Big Island and then Kauai. Hey there, Owls, what a creative bunch of Hooters!

and, Shirley...if I'd known you were delivering such a lovely breakfast, I'd have been here much earlier for a toasted bagel with cream cheese and marmalade.

If I have any creative juices, I guess they are culinary and writing. I love to cook without recipes, but can't enter a bookstore without walking out with a new cookbook to add to the collection.

I love journaling. Such good therapy! I've written a number of poems over the years (most for my eyes only), and dabble a bit in colored pencil art. I used to keep the pencils and blank artbook in the car for impromptu sketching if something caught my eye on day-trips or at the beach. I realize how lazy I've become when I think "Why cook when you have a microwave?" "Why draw when you have a digital camera?" "Why write when you can read?"

I think it's time to take a lesson from you, my creative Owl buddies, and get the juices flowing again. Thank you for that!

I missed Obama on The View! I would have loved to see that! Although I did not vote for him I take quite an interest in him as I do all candidates.
Some guy stole my cousin's e-mail addresses at his job and bombarded me and 31 others with his ignorant political views filled with doctored photos and venomous thoughts. I asked him nicely 3 times to please stop. He continued on with 13 e-mails within 24 hours. Most of them I just deleted. This arrogant piece of work demanded that I accept his horribly opinonated views and then preceeded to call me a Redneck moron when I said not going to happen because this is America where we are allowed to house our own thoughts. This concept was one he seemed to not grasp. His reply was that he was an acomplished project manager and a successful stock broker which entitled him to rule everyones minds.Hahaha!
I know we are a drama free blog but I thought this was a bit hilarious because it was just so over the top.
Okay, back to work!

Happy Freakin' Friday, Owls!

Congrats on first, Goldie!

Shirley..so nice to see you here this morning! And breakfast was delicious! Thanks!

Scirish...great topic. I have been trying to channel creativity lately to come up with a topic for a blog and have been coming up with nothing. I salute your creativity in coming up with creativity!
I always thought of myself as a non-creative person because I am not the least bit crafty. The only course I ever failed in high school was sewing! But journal writing and taking pictures and now playing my piano are filling up those creative spaces and I can see that I am indeed creative. As are all the owls...I am impressed by the talent that is here...just in the way you all write your posts! Good on ya!!!

Good almost afternoon to everyone!

SCIRISH: Great blog. Just writing it shows a ton of creativity on your part.

I am all thumbs anymore when it comes to crafts. I try, I really do, but I can't seem to get anything right.

I use to cross-stitch and really liked doing that. I was pretty good at it too. But when I moved to AZ to take care of my mom, she took up x-stitching too. Thing is, she could talk, sew, watch TV all at the same time without missing a beat. I needed quiet to concentrate. It was easier to just stop then to tell her shhhhh! ;)

I love writing. I have journals full of poems and stories all over the house. None of them finished.

I can sketch a little and since my mom was an artist, she was helping me refine this talent. When she died, I stopped drawing. My heart just wasn't in it anymore.

Card making? MEK and TINA can tell you why one was enough for me.

And then there's scrapbooking. I have so many supplies, just can't get myself to sit down and do it.

Looks like I fail creatively so far, but that's ok--there's always tomorrow!

Hi there everyone! It is a crispy 31 deg. sunny blue sky. white puffy cloud day in the "middle of the mitten".
My talents are limited. Like a few of you I have attempted a few projects only to have them fall by the wayside. A few years ago I got into making jewelry. My best pieces were the Indian bone chokers. My girlfriend and I did a few craft shows and met a lot of wonderful people. Now that I am retired, I can't seem to get up the ambition to make anything! My real passion is music. I love singing, and have over 10,000 Karaoke songs. I have a small Karaoke business. I will write a blog on that "one of these days"( a famous Paw Kettle saying).

My girlfriend can sew anything in the blink of an eye. She has made me nightgowns, "blankies",blouses and many other things. She has a fancy embroidery machine and makes beautiful stuff from it. I sing, she sews I accept that LOL!!

Goldie,I am so dyslectic! You are # 1 today!!

Kahonugrl, I will take "fun & naughty" ( getting into trouble")over crafty any day LOL!

GOLDIE: Congrats on FIRST!! Hope you and JODI have a great lunch! It is today, right?

SHIRLEY: Good to see you, and with breakfast! I wrote the same kinds of poems..there are just days like that. And did you say 'published'? Congrats, that's a great accomplishment!

DONNAJ: I think it's great you can cook without a recipe..not me. I cook pretty well, but I have to have guidance!

TINKA: Don't you dare burn your journals! Whew..had to say that first, you scared me!! My mom could crochet and knit too. I never wanted to learn. Now I kinda wish I had listened. I want to hear my cool mom play the ukulele!!

LYNND: I second TINKA, I would love to see some of the things you've made!

MEK: I have those same DD kits sitting in the closet here! I love your cards and scrapbook pages. You awe me with your talent!

BARB/WA: You take the most beautiful photos!

KGRL: Do I dare ask...what instrument do you play? ;)

VIG: I am terrified of the sewing machine. A needle through the fingernail and then back out again will tend to do that. Geez..I hate sewing. eeek.

JENNIFER: I really liked your paintings and drawings on myspace.

BON'O: I think I get lazy too...

TINA: Aren't you starting a new creative project soon? ;)

JODI: HUGS and smiles to you today!
Love ya. :)

Hope that everyone has a great day, I've been getting a little dizzy while on the computer--so I am going to try and give it a bit of a rest today. Yep. See how long that lasts. EVERYONE be good, or good at it!!

A: He lay awake at night wondering if there really was a 'Dog'. **ba-rump-bump** (that's supposed to be the corny joke drum sound, not a new dance)

I was on the phone having a heated arguement with a vendor that came close to begging to get my business back. The product I order from them is in 200 ct packaging and they we're out of it, so I said give me the 100 ct bundles, two for the price of one.

He wouldn't do it, so he just lost the business AGAIN!!!!

Thanks for marching tho i LOVED IT~

PNW Update: About an hour ago I changed my MySpace status to say I was going out to play in the sun. Actually did get a few weeds pulled before allergies chaced me back inside. Now I'm looking outside at a veritable blizzard, and hearing sirens as if there may be an accident nearby!! Think I'll just 'nest' for the rest of the day. When will this end?

ibb...so nice to have you back on the blog. you were definitely missed. sorry it has been such a tough week. canada sized thoughts and hugs to you!!

shirley...wow..you are keeping us well fed today...breakfast and lunch. impressive! thank you!

zona (or is it xena!!!)..another thing we have in common...hatred for sewing machines! you are an incredibly creative person..this can definitely be seen in your writing. And in your ability to find picture comments that are perfect for what an owl has said or is interested in. case in point...i love my piano tuner!!!

bono SS...another commonality...journal writing! cool! do you follow a particular format or stream of consciousness type writing?

tinka...did your new t.v arrive yet? hope you are staying inside and staying warm and watching it. it is a might cold and damp outside this afternoon!

happy friday late afternoon or evening everyone!!

OK, this is beyond weird. A few minutes ago, when the 'blizzard' began, I thought it was the brisk breeze blowing cherry blossoms off the trees because it was light and almost horizontal. Then the white onslaught. Now, nothing but bright sunshine and a couple fluffy white clouds to be seen, and steam rising from the rooftops. Good thing we Northwesterners tend to dress in layers. Put it on, take it off, put it on, take it off....it's exhausting!

Bon'O said...

VIG~~I used to try daily writing in dated books with a finite space per day. Then I found some days "I got nuthin", other days I could stream-of-consciousness for pages. That's when I turned my 5-lines-a-day books into Gratitude Journals (until I found books designed for that purpose). That makes me stretch to find 5 things to be grateful for on days when I thought there were none.

DreamaTexas said...

Earlier I was thinking along the lines of creative hobbies. Then I started thinking that I was hired at my last job for my creativity. I worked for a house flipper and was in charge of color schemes, interior remodeling and interior decorating. Which reminds me, the new series of Flip This House will be starting and this season it will be all about flipping during all of the recent real estate fall outs.

Anonymous said...

Bono...cool - that's what I do too. Start with gratitude and then it always turns to more. I didn't know you could get journals just meant to be a gratitude journal. I will have to have a look for that. Thanks for the info!

VIG - Yes my new T.V. arrived. It is a 32 inch LCD widescreen by Sharp. It is all set up in my bedroom and I snuggled down for my nap watching a GW. Perfect for this rainy weather. The T.V. I had in my bedroom kept flickering until it warmed up. That sometimes took a half hour. It has been going on for a week. The man who came out was going to take it away and recycle it. I turned it on and it worked perfectly. Isn't there a law that covers that? Anyway I decided to keep it and moved it into another room. It hasn't flickered since. I am still happy to have a new LCD widescreen so I don't care if the T.V. tricked me. Hope you are okay is this miserable weather. I will read the other comments now.

kahonugrl said...

Carol:

That QOTD really belongs to LynnD, it was on her post about the wacked out shoppers she encountered, I was just laughing my ass off at her remark!

JoeyfromSC said...

Hey y'all! Have only read the blog, not comments yet!

I am a very creative person, or so I think and have been told! LOL
BUT I can NOT draw!:(
I wished I could draw...Even my stick figures are crooked! LMAO

I used to help do sets for Vacation Bible School at church...I also played a character in one VBS production..He was like an announcer guy! LOL(Think Howard Cosell-sp?)

I have created many "theme" parties for my brothers before and after my mom passed. One in particular that was so fun was the CIRCUS PARTY we had for my bro's 4th birthday(the photo album got destroyed-makes me sad)

I made a real ticket booth, and we put tickets in the invitations. We had a duck pond in a pool with plastic ducks floating. I made a "clown toss" game with a huge clown on a box and his mouth was the hole to throw beanbags through! LOL

I could go on and on, but I won't bore you. I have thought about doing this as a side business!

Thanks scirish for triggering good memories today!:)

Congrats on first Goldie!!:)

OH, and my Aunt says my calling should have been a caterer. She always likes the extra touches I put on the little parties we have at holidays!:)

I have a LOT of interests, but don't feel I put my creative side to use very often, which is sad!:(

JoeyfromSC said...

Oh yeah it was LynndD with the QOTD!HILARIOUS! SO glad that one made it!:)

Dreama - I think you are an artist. I have seen your photographs and they are great. I am having trouble again with myspace. I keep getting thrown off Safari. It was like that for about a week a couple of months ago and has been perfect up until today. I was trying to send out 'hugs' and gave up.

K-Girl - Hi, Glad you are having fun with SacBarb.

Zonababy - I was writing you a letter and got interrupted by the T.V. man. I will continue after dinner. You do not fail creativity. You are a great writer and have many other talents. I would give you an
A+. When you visit next summer I will teach you the Ukulele. I have an extra one so you can take one home.

Shirley - More food. Wow! I love chowders, all kinds of chowders. May I have a little of each. I also love beef barley soup. That is real comfort food for me.

Bon O - Isn't our weather strange for the end of March? We had snow on the Malahat and rain here. It's a stay in the house kind of day.

Ibebold - Welcome back. You have had a bad week. I will send you hugs if I can get myspace to work.

JoeyfromSC said...

Was just skimming the post before going back to dishwashing(by hand-ugh-LOL)!
OMG IBB! I am SO sorry what you've been through this week!

I will keep you in my prayers!

This is a fabulous blog topic!!

Tinka...glad you got your new t.v. safe and sound and are happy with it! I think your old t.v. had a mind of its own and didn't want to leave the house of a woman of mystery! Glad you are staying inside and are snuggled up with Ghost Whisperer...it is sooo cold outside today!!! Stay warm!

Joey...you definitely have a creative soul. Love the theme parties you came up with for your brothers...caterer maybe but I think you would be an awesome teacher!!!

JoeyfromSC said...

Glad you got your t.v. too Tink!

VIG: Thanks!:) Funny you say that, because I actually went to college for Elementary Education!
My brothers were only 8 and 2 then! LOL
My mom was still alive of course...I never finished but would like to, but honestly I don't think I have the patience I once had! LOL
I hear there is a demand for male elementary teachers! They are paid a little more...Teachers are SO underpaid and overworked! Right Iteach?!LOL

I can't leave to go do dishes! haha
LOVE this place!
I always feel better after coming here!

Anonymous said...

Joey...that is awesome you went to teachers college! As a teacher myself, it is true one doesn't go into teaching to become wealthy but the rewards of teaching are so great in themselves! Is teaching something you are reconsidering? Good luck in getting your dishes done!!!

A special wave to VIG:

My apologies sweetie. I did not mean to ignore you. Most times when I am on during the day it is your evening. I am still at work, and use this place (the blog) as my energy booster, voice of reason, laugh generator, and hideaway from the stress and multi tasking that abounds around me. I sometimes skim the comments looking for replys from other peeps (cause my distraction comes in text form as well from hooters)...lol

Please know that I am looking forward to getting to know you too!

As soon as I get my housemates to password my new router for my wireless I will have more time to play.

Much Aloha,
Turtle

Anonymous said...

Hi Kgirl...thank you for the special wave! I didn't feel ignored just realized I hadn't made my presence known or really gotten to know you and that I should do that. And I can tell by what you write and how the Owl's react to you, that you are very cool! So hello, Kgirl, how are ya and waving back at you!

Tinkatia said...

Joey - Haven't said Hi to you today. I think you are a creative soul and would make a good teacher. I don't know what the teachers in the States are paid now but 15 years ago B.C. teachers made twice what California teachers did. That was the result of a very strong B.C. teachers' Union. It wasn't always that way but teachers do not have anything to complain about salary wise. Working conditions are not as good as they once were. Class sizes are also increasing once more. It all depends on which Government gets it.

VIG - I hope you kept warm today. Next week the sun returns. I love the sun in the picture comment you sent me. I keep looking at it. It doesn't give off too much heat but I pretend it does.

Zona sweetie - I am still getting to that letter. It has been a busy day here.

Happy Friday Evening To All My Feathered Friends!!!

~~LynnD & ~~ZonaBaby~~ YES, you can cook! Everyone can cook. They just think they can't!

Seriously, I never cooked a day in my life until I got married and just learned from friends, Family Circle, Woman's Day (anybody remember those mags from the 70's, always lots of casseroles, yuk!)

And now we are so lucky to have the Food Network, the PBS cooking shows (which I prefer) etc. Just use a little imagination! Just try not to mistake the sugar for the salt!!!

And practice a little with the knives. It took me a LONG time to perfect the slicing and dicing! A little tip. If you do not have a knife sharpener or stone, the bottom of a coffee mug will work perfectly! Just make sure it is a little rough, like stoneware. And PLEASE don't point the sharp edge towards you! I don't like cleaning up the blood!!

~~Jennifer~~ Yes, darlin, I too went through that period. Stopped enjoying cooking, but it didn't last long. Now that Laurie is on a special Low Sodium diet for her heart I have had to be "creative" with my recipes. Trader Joe's "21 Seasoning Salute" is fabulous! And Mrs. Dash has some great seasonings too. And can you believe it, Laurie hasn't complained a bit! In fact she says "Wow, a HomeMade Dinner, thanks Mom"!
(we used to do alot of take out)!

~~MEK~~ Up early? I have no idea why! I just woke up and didn't feel like going back to bed.

But, after finding out this morning (after Laurie left) some troublesome news about Laurie's Social Security Benefits, I wish I had!!

Hopefully, after calls to Social Security, Medi-Cal, and Kaiser, we can figure it all out next week. It is way too complicated to go into, but, it could really impact us financially. Please keep positive thoughts coming for us ok??? Thank You!

~~Hi Dreama~~ Love the pictures!

~~Turtle~~ Mahalo for taking the time to send the pictures to me on my email! It meant so very much!

And, FINALLY, (you are all probably saying to yourselves, when is she going to be done)

~~Joey~~ You little cutie patootie. You are just TOO creative for words! You amaze me!

Friday Night, hmmm, what shall Laurie and I do??? I know watch the soaps I've DVR'd all week!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

My other daughter and her family went to the snow (Tahoe) so I guess its just us two this weekend, but that's OK. I need to relax and be prepared for all the meetings scheduled for Laurie's SS Benefits next week!

Peace and Love to all,
DonnaJean and Laurie Elizabeth

Jodi said...

ZONA - Please don't cry.....I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful gift!!! It holds a very special place in my heart.....especially because it was your mom's.

Joey...you and I are having the same Friday night...laundry and dishes...woohoo!

DonnaJean..positive thoughts to you and Laurie. I hope that the bureaucracy you have to deal with is a really easy, smooth process! Enjoy your soaps tonight!!

Zona...hello youngster! Where's Hugh? Nice to see Pierce though! It is funny that you are too hot when I am way too cold. It is sooooo cold and rainy here tonight. I need that piano tuner to warm me up. Anyone you'd like me to send to you to help you cool down?

Tinka...how's that t.v. I hope you are staying inside and watching it! Too miserable to venture out tonight! Did you get Grey's Anatomy today?

Happy Friday night owls!

Zona said...

VIG: Hi Auntie...Hugh is on vacation. TINA couldn't take looking at him anymore. I don't know that Pierce will be an improvement though.

scirish~ I LOVE your blog~ I love trying new things and most of the time I finish them. I love to scrapbook, make cards, embroider, cross-stitch, crochet, take pictures, and write. Right now I'm embroidering~

I have to say....it really doesn't matter how something turns out or if you think it's awful....because it's the thought behind it that counts. I recently received a card in the mail that I absolutely LOVE! The person who made it hated it, but I begged her to send it anyway. To me it is priceless because she made it for me with my interests in mind. It is perfect! :D

Zona~ mwah~

Jodi~ Love the new pic~ So glad you and Goldie were able to get together again~

Goldie~ congrats on first~

VIG~ can't get enuf of your piano tuner~ :D

Kgrl~ We are on for July...16-25~ :D

Joey~ OMG!!! Are you crazy? You are one of the most creative people I have ever not met!!! And your laughter is contagious~ :D

Bono~ loved your joke~

Dianne says hi! That woman was on her blackberry emailing me from the bathroom....after drinking too much~ just kidding....just drinking~ :)~

Zona~ thx for 175~ :)~ love ya~

Hi hooters!

Hope you all had a nice day.

I've been trying to think of creative things I can do or have done, but I'm too tired after a long, busy day at work.

MEK I will start gathering hotel info in this area. It's almost April, and that means just over 4 months til the BABB!

I know some of you have contacted me about possibly coming, and I'm thrilled! I hope you will still come!

Please contact me thru Myspace, or MEK and SacBarb have my "real" email address, you can get it from one of them. I think Whab has my email too.

IBB I've missed you, so sorry you've had such a bad week. Please know I'm thinking of you.

TGIF!

hey owlettes...
i am back to play for a little while...
i am not too creative...
if you show how to do something ... i can do it beautifully.... but to come up with thteidea myself... i don't think so... i just today stole a card design from my sister... it didn't look as good as hers .. but I got an A for effort.. and the the receipient loved it .. thats what matters...
right...
I use to do beautiful cross stitch... but my eyes don't like doing that anymore...
i do crochet.. i do that to relax...
I took a quilting class... I will have to retire before I can really start quilting... I would get nothing else done... I really enjoyed it ...

Goldie -- congrats on first...

And a thanks again to all that missed me and make me feel so welocomed back...
I missed you all...
