Food Disaster's

IT'S ALL IN THE PRESENTATION

by ronniegirl

Years ago when I was a young bride, my hubby and I wanted to have our families over for our first dinner all together since the wedding. Knowing everyone liked ham and sweet potatoes, (we're from the south), I decided to "fancy" it up a bit. This was BFN (before Food Network), but I did know presentation was important. I took three large cans of sweet potatoes, mashed them into a lovely orange icing and 'iced' the ham before baking.

We were fortunate enough to have a hand-me-down table, which I set using our wedding gifts. Next I prepared the pink boxed cake mix and pink canned frosting. I then iced my hot cake and watched it melt onto the cake stand. That was okay, it was pink and matched the candles and flowers. I didn't have dressing for the salad, so I squeezed lemon juice on top.

After our guest's arrived, I announced dinner was served.

As I entered bringing in the ham, my brother started laughing, Dad cleared his throat and told him to stop, all the while controlling his own huge grin. My mother just kept looking down at her lap. Hubby "carves", or butchers, the ham and serves, as I pass the lettuce and tomato salad. We toasted our Mogan David and Dad asked if I selected the wine, as everyone made pleasant conversation.

Dinner over, it was time for dessert.

Hey.....it was PINK, and my dripping cake matched my table. As I came through the kitchen door, my brother, who hadn't said a word during dinner,
gave out a loud bwahahaha, after which he said, "I think y'all better stick to living off of love".
He was excused from the table by my father.

After hugs and good-byes, we closed our front door, but I could hear my brother's bwahahaha and my dad's loud voice coming from our sidewalk. I looked at Hubby, he smiled and said he was proud of me, and that's all that really mattered.

This a true story, and I'd bet my brother's life on it.

Have you ever had a cooking disaster, attended someone's home and they served you theirs, or something you didn't like and maybe put it in their flower pot? I feel some good stories coming on.....bwahahaha...(that's from my brother, he's so good at it)

OMG..yes! I was living in Germany and the stove was in centigrade (you can tell where this is going right?)We were having guys from the base over for a dinner of baked chicken and all the fixin's. I thought that I had calculated the proper temp for the chicken...wrong! It came out crispy on the outside and almost raw on the inside, soooo.. I thought that I would just throw it in a frying pan to finish cooking it. Only I didn't have any cooking oil, but butter is almost the same thing ...right?..ummm...NO! The chicken turned into a charred, smoking mess, the house was full of smoke and here come the guys. We ate the fixin's and chopped up chicken with a gravy disguise. The next day, I received a beautifully laminated chart showing the conversions from centigrade to fahrenheit in my mail box...

Good morning!

Hi Scirish, congrats! And thanx for thinking my Paula. She is sleeping under the covers right now!

I want to thank everyone for all the Myspace messages and comments yesterday for my b-day! You are all so awesome! I haven't had time to write each of you and say thank you. But please know how much I appreciate all the good wishes.

Also want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and nice comments for Paula! She tolerated her first night of fluids pretty good. We are giving them every other night, to give her a break. So tonight is just antibiotics!

The first cooking disaster that comes to mind was my first Thanksgiving dinner.

I had never made gravy, and followed the directions in my old Betty Crocker cookbook to a T.

The gravy would NOT thicken, no matter what. I added corn starch, prayed, cried, nothing worked.

I ended up running to the grocery store at the last minute (luckily was open) and buying canned gravy. I was mortified.

Another time I remember I was baking a cake from scratch. I mixed it all up, put it in the oven, and set the timer.

Well, the timer went off, I opened the oven door expecting to see this beautiful, homemade cake.

Instead, there was a hard, dark blob.

Yes, I'd forgotten to add the flour.

Hope everyone has a great day!

You just reminded me .....my first time making gravy for a nice pot roast.... oh my stars, I had no idea how to make gravy, except it was made with flour.... well I put a cup of flour into the juices..... needless to say, it went into the trash fast.... dinner was without gravy that evening.

Good morning scirish and iteach. It feels so good to be back in the nest!

I remember one time early in marriage I made a chow mein kinda dish (mother in laws recipe). It took hours to slow cook the meat, then you added the other stuff and cooked and at the last minute you thickened with corn starch.
All of sudden it starts bubbling over the pan and looks like a volcanic eruption! I couldn't figure out.
We sit down to eat and hubby takes one bite and SPITS- literally SPITS it out!! Seems I thickened it with several heaping spoons of baking soda instead of cornstarch. oopsie

MEK in AZ said...

Okay - here's the cooking story that REALLY stands out in my mind!!

My mom was staying with us and I made a round steak that you coat in flour, brown on both sides, then soak in cream of mushroom gravy mixed with milk!! The meat is cooking away, I make the rice and everything is perfect. I served up the meal. Mom and Mr. MEK have started to eat as I get some last minute things gathered before I sit down!!

I took my first bite and just about threw up - I said - WHO PUT SUGAR IN THE RICE????? well, I had grabbed the confectionate sugar instead of flour to coat the meat - SOOOOOOOOOOOO - the sugar was in the meat, in the gravy, therefore in the rice!!!!!! it was THEE worst meal EVER - I could NOT eat, but my mom and Mr. MEK kept eating. I asked them WHY - they said - well, we were hungry!!

SHIT - I could have fixed something else!! (this was before my area had pizza delivery!!)

Anyway - I am very blessed to have a husband who NEVER complains about anything that I cook - the only way that I know if he does NOT like something is at the end of the meal, he will say - that was good, but you don't ever have to make it again!!! (that's his nice way of saying he didn't like it!!)...

I will have to think if I have any other bad moments!!! :-) I'm sure I have surpressed them in my mind..

Ronnie: Thanks for the blog! You've brought back some funny memories. If there's a Martha Stewart gene, I was absent the day it was handed out. I could fill at least two pages with stories of my cooking disasters. LOL!

My most embarrassing was the first Christmas dinner I hosted. I baked a ham and basted it with pride only to discover, when my dad went to cut it, that the ham had a second wrapper I didn't remove. All that basting was wasted time. :\

Scirish: I must have missed your post about the health problem you're dealing with, but I'm sending a prayer of healing. I hope you get relief from the pain soon. {{Hugs}}

Cooking Disasters: What comes to mind was a dinner that Mr. Lynn D and I had at my Aunt Ruth"s and Uncle Bill"s house a long time ago. My children were just kids at the time.

Aunt Ruth has never been a great cook and truthfully I am not either! I have an excuse as I have bad cooks on both sides of the family and I got all of those genetics.

Anyway Aunt Ruth had most of the dinner going when we arrived. She had made a meatloaf (Even I can make that one) salad and veggies and she had potatos boiling to make mashed potatos.

Well she took the potatos off and drained them and was preparing to mash. I heard her mutter something about being out of sour cream. (evidently she makes hers with sour cream to make them really smooth) I was distracted by the kids running through the house and trying to get them settled down. When I turned back her mashed potatos were pink!!!

I asked her why?? Well she said" I was out of sour cream and all I had was raspberry yogurt, so I used that". "It should be all right don't you think??" I stood there a minute and was trying to figure out how to politely say NO! I gave up and shrugged my shoulders.

While I set the table and called everyone to the table she started to bring out the food. Well the meatloaf was black!!! Then came the salad thank god you can't screw up a salad!! Then the veggies in one hand and the pink potatos in her other hand.

My Uncle Bill, who always says what he thinks and not quietly either, took one look at the potatos and said "What in the Hell is that?" My Aunt just looked at him and said mashed potato's!

Uncle Bill cut into the meatloaf and it was not only black but dry as jerky!! LMAO He kept looking at it and the potatos.

Well Mr. Lynn D and I were trying to be polite so we started to dish our plates and the kid's too.

My son kept saying I don't want any, I don't want any! I just kept trying to hush him up.

We all tried one bite and let me tell you none of us could swallow!! The meatloaf was horrible and the pink potatos were worse!!

Finally Uncle Bill threw his napkin down and said "the hell with this" and marched out their back door and threw all of his food out into the backyard! LMAO He came back in and informed us the crows would eat it!

We all looked out and sure enough there were 3 crows headed for it. The first crow took a bite and I swear to god spit it out!!! He flew off and the other crows followed! We were laughing our asses off at this point!

We ordered pizza!!

What is so hilarious about this the next day in the paper was a Family Circle comic strip about crows not eating the cooking!!

My Aunt cut it out and has saved that comic strip to this day!

Uncle Bill cooks when we come over now!!

Good morning, Little Owls!

Carol, love the new lay-out, I agree, nice paint job.

Congrats scirish on #1. Love your story, and hoping that nerve block shot helps.

Iteach, There's nothing like a little crunchy noodles to get your jaws going. lol

EBJ, great story. I still have my red and white Betty Crocker cookbook. I think all brides get them as gifts for some reason. It didm't help me much, but I used it a lot. I usually just "winged-it".lol

Lovey, Thank you. My family was used to having dumplings in their gravy and when I learned how to make it better, one of my kids asked where were those little balls I usually put in there? Such tact!

Goldie, That sounded like a science experiment. Too funny!
Tink, I'm wishing you peace and gentle ((hugs)).

Mek, why is it so hard for us to make gravy? I guess it's all about texture, (lumpy). Hey where's the green sofa?

amicus, at least you basted your ham. Too funny, I bet the wrapper was crunchy. It seems like the disasters always happen when we are trying to make everything 'nice' and not just for ourselves. lol

dianne, I'm giving Get-Well wishes for your little granddaughter.

Tina, Nice to see Eunice is still hanging around. Please come back and share a story, after your nap.
Jodi, loved you story. Plop!! I have found through experience, that if you just spread, or pour, icing over a pile of anything, it passes, especially if you serve with a smile.

JODIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII- oops, didn't mean to yell, hope your headache gets better.

I hate to rub it in MEK- but I make damn good gravy too!

Ok, BIL makes deep fried turkeys. Really good. So, youngest son is 17 and we force hin to go away with us for Thanksgiving to their house. He is not overly fond of this uncle by the way, or his cousin who he has NOTHING in common with (the one that just got married). Anyway, all we do is talk up this turkey for days and days to him. Best turkey you will ever eat kind of thing.

Well the BIL is watching football, forgets about the turkey. Sister in law is busy in the kitchen making all the fixings (she is a really good cook). So, in the door he walks with the charred piece of carcass. At the same time son walks into the room and just has the most dumbfounded look on his face. "This is the turkey you raved about?" He was then speechless. My SIL was totally pissed and yelling at BIL. I am laughing so hard I am peeing myself at the look on sons face and the my sister in laws. The madder they get the more I laugh- then their DIL starts laughing and now we have 1/2 the room yelling, half laughing and my son just standing there with his mouth open.
Priceless., like a Mastercard commercial!!

Ronnie: Pink potatos are fine except when they taste like raspberry yogurt!!! LOL

Goldie I would love a brownie!!! Loved the deep fried carcass story LMAO!!

This is not really a cooking story but it is family lore!!!

My Grandma on my Dad's side of the family was a notorious bad cook!!

I remember her hamburgers were the size of silver dollars, you had to take two or three to get one burger and they were always burned! Her cakes did not matter if they were from scratch or a box were always about 1 inch high!! None of us could figure out how she did this!!

Anyway she used to ride the train all the time when I was a kid. She would take it from Centrailia WA to Seattle all the time to come visit all of us who lived there. Aunts and Uncles would take turns picking her up at the station.

This particular trip my Uncle Ben picked her up on his lunch hour from work and drove her straight to his house and dropped her off. He told he was sorry but he had to get back to work. She said that was fine and she would scrounge something to eat from their fridge to tide her over until everyone got home from work.

Well my Uncle and Aunt got home and were greeting her. My Uncle asked if she had found something to eat. Grandma replied "Yes, I found some hash in the fridge and fried that up, It was pretty good for canned."

Well he looked at her and said "Mom we didn't have any hash in the fridge. What are you talking about?"

Grandma said "yes you did" and proceeded to the trash and dug the can out. My Uncle took one look at the can and started howling with laughter! Grandma and my Aunt were looking at him. Finally Grandma asked "What is so damn funny?"

He finally choked out "That was not hash Mom!! That is the dogs food!"

This is still a family joke to this day! Even tho Grandma passed away many years ago.

We always ask at family gatherings if anyone has brought Grandma's Hash??!!!

The first house we lived in here in AZ had a gas oven ( I had never cooked using a gas stove) - so - it's Thanksgiving - my mom had come from Colorado, my little brother and his wife came from TX.

I had NEVER made a pumpkin pie before (I don't eat pie) - so the pie has to cook for some minutes at one temp - then - you change temp and finish baking.....

well - after the first round - the timer went off and i changed the temp and finished baking - the timer went off and I took the pie out of the oven and it was still just as juicy and runny as ever.

I had TURNED THE OVEN OFF!!!!!!!!! (not changed the temp!!!)

scirish Good job, on #1 today. I don't know why you are in pain but I sure hope you get relief soon. Is it your back?

ronniegirl What a fun blog and TOTD. I'm totaly enjoying everyone's stories today.

Tinka Sending positive thoughts your way.

Dianne/Denver I sure hope your granddaughter is better today.

To be honest, I don't remember any really bad kitchen disasters right now. Not that I'm some wonderful cook but I do seem to follow directions well. My daughter remembers the time I burnt some chicken and dumplings. I thought it would be okay to run to the store while the pot simmered on the stove. Wrong! Apparently, it wasn't simmering low enough and I totally burnt the bottom of it. The burnt taste was throughout the whole dish and boy did the house smell! At least I wasn't having company that night, though.

MEK I am a decent cook, not an expert by any means, but things turn out fine, including gravy. I use Wondra, never add too much at the same time, and use a fork or wisk.

I have to leave the blog for a while. Hope you all are having a good day.

Hi friends and happy thong Thursday! Sorry I've been away so long but life has been hectic since I flew off to Reno and came back with a foster dog. You can see his picture at www.gratefuldogsrescue.org

Now I'm settling into my new temporary job assignment -- this one will last until July.

And LOOK...I logged in as myself and I have a picture! OMMMMM, it sure feels good to be getting back into some sort of routine.

Went to a Stampin Up party on Saturday, swore I wouldn't buy anything because I can barely manage my scrapbook supplies and still I ended up with paper, cardstock, some stamps, stamp pads, chip board (which I have never used but very excited to start!), and some new adhesive that I can't live without. So much for not buying anything! Now all I need is someone to help me plan a scrappin/card-making room!

Gosh, I can't think of any food disaster stories although I'm sure I have plenty. I'll chat with Mr. Outatuune at lunch and see what he can come up with. Meanwhile, I love reading everyone else's stories.

Back to filing, copying, collating, and archiving ... I'll check back in later.

I have another story from long ago. I feel like Sophia, from the Golden Girls saying "Picture it. Sicily, 1910 .lol (I hate set-ups)...SO

Picture it... newlywed with new cookware wanting to make a pot of pinto beans. Damn, we ate a lot of beans back then.

Did everything the package said and never added water again and left the house for a while. You know what I returned home to see, black dried-up stinking mess, plus the house was full of smoke. I didn't want my new husband to know I was such a failure and distroyed our new pot so....since I couldn't get it clean, I took it out in the back yard and threw it over the fence. I guess when they finished developing our subdivison some worker found it.

Happy Thong Thursday Owls.

Carol: Love the redecorating.

scirish: congrats on #1.

Great blog and topic Ronnie. I loved reading everyone's stories.

My youngest son was born on St. Patrick's Day and for his 8th birthday we were having a big birthday party with kids from his class. I decorated everything for St. Pat's day with birthday stuff thrown in. I was very proud. I baked a cake and decided it should be green also, so I added green food coloring in the white cake mix. I even iced it in green frosting. When I cut into it, all the kids said "eewwwww" because it was just green enough to look MOLDY and none of the kids would eat it. My son was not a happy camper that day and I felt terrible. He still reminds me of it.

The only cooking my Hubby did was on the BBQ, but one day when he had a day off and I had to work, he decided he would help me out by making dinner. He called my mother and asked her how to make meatloaf and she told him the ingredients, but not the amounts to use. So he went to the store and got 6 lbs. of hamburger and proceeded to make the meatloaf. He put it in the oven at 5:00 and I got home at 5:30. By 7:30 the meatloaf was still not cooked and the kids were starving, so we all had cereal for dinner that night. We did eat the mneatloaf for dinner the next night, and had sandwiches the day after that, and still had half of it left that I froze because we were sick of meatloaf by then.

BBL to read more cooking stories. Have a great day everyone.

Hi again Owls!

I've been enjoying the stories about cooking disasters while taking a lunch break. I'm happy to report I didn't burn my lunch in the microwave. ;)

Outatuune: Welcome back! Big hugs to you for the time you devoted to helping those dogs! I hope they all find loving homes. Belly scratches for your foster pup.

I just finished grooming a beautiful Golden who is so smart! I lowered my grooming table before I went in the back to get her, and I didn't bother putting a leash on her when I let her out of the drying pen. She headed straight for the grooming table and was already sitting on top of it by the time I got there. She's amazing! I adore her! :)

I better get back to work now. There's a Poodle waiting for me.

I was dissappointed to hear Deanna Favre say on the press conference that they are not doing the charity softball game this year. That they are taking a year off of everything (charity too) but that they would probably continue but do less here in WI. They have raised a HUGE amount of money for kids and charities in the Green Bay area and that is sad.

Otherwise, I really don't have a disaster story. Don't play golf, not all that crafty, brown thumb.......the list of things I CAN'T do is long, but boy, can I cook!!

CPGEM~~Love the new color scheme!

((EBJ & PAULA)))

JODI~~ **whispering**Hope the migraine is gone and you have a wonderful, long weekend!

OUTATUUNE~~ Welcome home...l'll be watching for new Arnie photos!

DIANNE/DENVER~~ Sure hope your little one is better today......TINA~~Same for Mr. T.....and of course (((DJ & LAURIE E)))

TINKA & ITEACH~~ Hugs and thoughts to get you through this difficult day.

K'GIRL ~~ Waiting to hear you're enjoying the sweet Aloha of being safely home.

As always, thankful for Thirsty Thong-Thursday giggles from owls everywhere!

Happy Thursday to everyone!

SCIRISH: Congrats on 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th! I hope your back is feeling a little better today.

I've had a lot of cooking mishaps over the years. The one I remember the most was the time I found a recipe in a magazine for "Mexican Lasagna". Neither Mr. Z or I liked lasagna, but this actually sounded pretty good. Layers of, ground meat, cheese, corn tortillas, beans topped with lettuce and tomatoes. I went about buying all the ingredients and preparing my masterpiece. I thought it was a little odd that they still called for ricotta cheese, but I went with it. It smelled wonderful coming out of the oven. We got our plates and Mr. Z started to serve. When he went to cut into my beautiful dish, the knife didn't cut and half of the food slopped onto the floor! He looked at me in total confusion and panic. Turns out I hade forgotten to cook the corn tortillas to begin with and they turned into big hockey pucks! We tried to salvage the dish anyway by eating around the tortilla pucks...but trust me, ricotta cheese and refried beans do not compliment each other. Silently Mr. Z watched as I got the garbage can and threw the whole thing away. We ordered a pizza instead!

I am off to take my walk, cane in hand in case knee pain attacks. Will read everyone's posts when I get back!

Oh wait, one more before I go. It was Christmas Eve and I had just gotten a new bread machine. I decided it would be nice to make homemade bread for my husband's family and wrap it in color saran wrap tied with a bow. I looked through the recipe book and decided that everyone would love the blueberry bread. It would be festive and different. An hour later the first loaf of bread was done. It was PURPLE! Mr. Z and I tasted it and it was really very good. But, Purple?? He said that since I had all the ingredients for it, just make the rest of the gifts the same. So I made five round loaves of purple bread and wrapped them in green saran wrap tied with a red bow. Isn't it funny how your family can look at a gift you give them and smile, even when the can't for the life of them figure out what the hell it is?

This isn't really a disaster, but it is funny. My Dad, sister, mum and I went down to my older sister's house (about 2 hours away) for my nephews 4th or 5th b-day. It was in July and my sister decided to have a BBQ and then strawberries with biscuits and coolwhip for desert. There were about 15 of us. She bought 2 quarts of strawberries. When I got my dish there was half a biscuit with about three berries sliced ontop and a drop of coolwhip the size of a grape. I looked at my youngest sister and we just cracked up. Then in walks my BIL with a bowl containing 2 biscuits, about have a quart of strawberries, and 3 or 4 spoonfuls of coolwhip. He looked at us and said "What?" We just shook our heads.

OMG GOLDIE!! Baking soda?? ROFLMAO!! I once baked brownies using Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate. No sugar. You should have seen Mr. Z's face when he took the first bite!

ITEACH: My dad always insisted my mom cook the noodles until they were almost burnt. Mom never did understand his love for crispy noodles.

EBJ: Hard blob! LOL! Continued prayers for your Paula!

LOVEY: I always use canned gravy. I add to it to try and 'jazz' it up..but I know the mess I'll make if I try to make it from scratch.

TINKA: My love and prayers are with you today and always.

MEK: Powdered sugar? Sounds like something I would do! I read the blog and thought about your steak the other night too..and the salad!! ;)

LYNND: ROFL @ your meatloaf and pink potatoes!

JODI: Hope you are feeling better. In the understatement of the year, MIGRAINES SUCK!!

SACBARB: I did the same thing with a meatloaf! I had added some potatos around the edges and that thing took forever to cook! We kept turning up the temp and removing potatos!

Took my walk and didn't need my cane! Woo-Hoo!!

your TOTD is so cute. I will be back later and read everyones stories. My Pekingese hurt her leg jumping off of the sofa two days ago so I've not had much sleep while tending to her. My Dad is having major surgery tomorrow morning. Today we had thunderstorms with hail and a tornado. Whew!
Don't hate me y'all but I took international cuisine cooking classes in high school. I loved cooking. My cooking partner was a guy and he served undercooked Dublin Bay Prawns. That was icky.

HILARIOUS story!:)Thanks for sharing!

I do remember one in particular..I think many people have done this..One year my Aunt and I were preparing Thanksgiving dinner together...She was working on the turkey and I was busy with some side dishes, etc.

Cut to hours later and the beautiful golden brown turkey comes out of the oven..Only we notice something just wasn't quite right in a certain cavity area! LOL

She roasted the turkey with the "bag" of gizzards, livers, neck, etc. in it!! LMAO

It was so funny and gross!

MEK: Saw your myspace status..Check your comments(and anyone else wanting to know) for the SPOILER FOR AMERICAN IDOL!!!

Glynis, peep your regular email;)hehe

JoeyfromSC said...

P.S.
I too finally learned how to make gravy!!:) It's almost as good as my mom's!

I actually started learning how to cook at the age of 9! That was a good thing because when raising my brothers they didn't have to eat frozen dinners! HAHA

My fave meal that they loved was my cubed steak(countryfriedsteak) and gravy with homemade mashed potatoes or sometimes rice!

I also make a mean slow cooked pot roast and pulled pork;)hehe

MEK in AZ said...

Joey - my dad always called my mom's cube steak dinners - mystery meat!!! :-) But it is one of my favorite meals!!

Thanks for the spoiler - came complete with a picture and everything!!! :-)

JoeyfromSC said...

LOL@Mek..Yeah I pay attention to detail:)hehe

Oh I would smother most of the meat back in the gravy with onions! YUMO!
They liked some to be left out of the gravy..The longer it was in the gravy, the more tender..Make you "slap yo mama"! LMAO

East Bay J said...

Hi hooters!

I must say, I've really enjoyed reading all the stories today!

And I'm soooo excited to know that I'm not the only one who can't make gravy!

I'm very jealous of those of you who can.

I thought of something else. This wasn't my disaster, but someone elses.

We were having Thanksgiving at my moms, and she usually invites the "orphans", family friends who are alone and have no where to go for one reason or another.

One of my brothers friends came with her son, and she had baked banana bread.

I picked up a piece, and noticed it was HAIRY.

I put it in the trash, and looked closely. Each slice had hair. It was so disgusting.

She had apparently not had her hair pulled back, and a strand or 10 had dropped into the batter while she was using the electric mixer.

Ewww!!!

EBJ - eeewwwwwwww - reminds me - working in a doctor's office - the holidays always bring in TONS of baked goods!!!!!

Well, this one amish woman (they have LONG, LONG hair) - brought in some cookies and breads!! well, I took a bite and I started to pull a piece of hair out and it pulled FOREVER - the other gals teased me that it must have been dental floss!!! We never ate anything that she brought in...

goldie said...

EBJ- that is so gross! ICK, ewwww, blahhhhhh

Reminded me of one other cooking story though- no hair involved

Made a triple batch of green bean casserole for a family gathering. My family likes it made with canned french style green beans.
So my sister-in-law is scooping up her portion and PLOP the lid to a can is in her serving. I was so embarrased- no idea how that happened without my knowledge but damn it got a good laugh!

Oh - I am trying so hard not to spill the beans on Apprentice!! It was good- so was Survivor and Idol. I don't do Lost, so I am done for the evening!

MEK in AZ said...

Goldie - please message me the results of Apprentice - I think it was spilled earlier in the media - and if so, someone is going to be in alot of trouble!!!

Hi, owls! This really is kind of a flyby, since I arrived in Palm Springs late this afternoon only to discover that my modem isn't working. So I'm getting my internet fix in the local Starbucks!

The worst food disaster I ever had wasn't with food per se, but an empty casserole dish. I inadvertently left the dish on a heating element once, and had no idea that it had gotton really hot until I noticed the element was on.

Well, instead of just turning the element off and letting the dish cool naturally, which is what I should have done, I put oven mitts on and moved it under running cold water.

OMG! It immediately EXPLODED, sending shards and chips all over the sink and vicinity. Luckily, I wear glasses, and luckily, none of the shards came in the direction of my eyes.

Dianne: Please keep us updated on your granddaughter!

Tinka: Still sending positive energy your way!

BANG! The dish literally
