~ Easter Memories ~

Some of my favorite memories of Easter involve music, church, family, and the hunt! When I was a little girl, we woke up to Johnny Mathis singing Hallelujah Chorus. The music resounded through the house and I loved it. Whether it was sunny or rainy, the music left me with a warm feeling and it meant the dark days of Lent were over. Easter was here. It was time to get up, get dressed and go to church.
Even though it was after 1965 (Vatican II), my parents managed to find the only church in Orange County, CA that still had a Latin Mass and we were the "lucky" ones who got to go……at 7am!!! BUT….afterwards, we would go out to breakfast, which was a big treat back then because there wasn't a lot of money to go around. My sister and I never had new Easter dresses, which is probably why my daughter doesn't now. None of that mattered because we were happy and had each other.
After breakfast, we headed for home and magically, the Easter Bunny had been to our house while we were gone. He never came before church! NEVER!!! Mom was always late getting into the car for church…..one time she had to go back in "to get something." We never knew. Mom was always late…..still is! We had no idea she was hiding the eggs. When we got home, our Easter baskets were on the dining room table filled with candy, a few eggs, and brand new underwear and socks! I can remember how excited I got to get new underwear……silly, I know…..but I loved it! Then we searched for eggs. There weren't that many. It wasn't that big of a deal since we knew that once our cousins arrived, we would have the big Easter Egg Hunt!
I have a very large family on my mom's side. There are 25 cousins and we would all get together for the holidays. Most of the time, we congregated at my house for Easter because we had the biggest backyard and it was the best for hiding eggs. It was such fun. My dad was the best at hiding the eggs and the best at giving hints for finding them. He always knew how many were left and would tell us if we were "hot or cold"!! It was sad when I got older and didn't look for the eggs anymore. I helped to hide them and I never remembered where I put them or how many were left.
When I had children of my own, I wanted everything to be the same for them. What I didn't take into account was my husband's ideas on the holidays. His family hid the Easter baskets. I thought that was the weirdest thing I'd ever heard of! I didn't do it. I bought the underwear, candy, and toys, and hid the eggs, and even kept track of how many and where they were! I even added those little boxes of cereal that my mom never bought because they were so expensive…..but I had an ulterior motive…..I wouldn't have to make breakfast!!! Every year I made it harder to find the eggs. Two years ago, I finally hid the baskets. It was so funny. My oldest couldn't find his to save his life! I got to do the "you're hot/you're cold" thing with him!
This year, I told my children that I'm not doing the Easter basket thing. I just thought they were too old for it. I couldn't believe how upset they got. I was shocked! So, of course, I went to the store and bought each of them their favorite candy, a toy, and the little boxes of cereal~ They will be happy and that's what it's all about~
What are your favorite Easter memories or traditions?

for real...i didnt cheat this time!
TINA...what lovely traditions you have. And it is so wonderful you passed them on to your own children.
Have a HAPPY EASTER my fine feathered friends.
We don't celebrate Easter as a Christian holiday, since we are Jewish. But every year, we do gather to celebrate family. I will be going to my cousins this afternoon.
I do have some Catholic cousins, and generally, Easter and Passover fall really close together. During Passover, we do not eat bread and bread products (I do, though!)and we celebrate with 2 Seders. One year, my cousin Kim had been baking pepperoni bread for Easter and brought us all breads to the Passover seder. We were so excited because she is a great baker. After we chowed down on the bread, we realized it was Passover and we shouldn't have done that. At least not during the seder! But it was sooooo good!
OMHeavens Tina, this music is making me cry, I LOVE IT!
This is perfect Tina thanks for the music and sharing your beautiful story.
Our Easters were pretty simple. My sister and I received an Easter basket filled with candy. No egg hunts or presents. We did get new Easter dresses and all go to mass.
Now with my own children we do the egg hunt. Inside the eggs is either candy or clues to find their Easter basket. We also give a small Easter gift that they have to find.
My husband and the two oldest children will go to Easter mass. I stay behind with the "wild" younger ones. I go to mass on Saturday night by myself.
Happy Easter! Congrats again MO on being first.
Morning ITEACH. Have a nice day today with your family.
This is a great blog TINA, filled with happiness, family and tradition. And the music is a bonus!
We didn't have any Easter egg hunts. My mom started baking and cooking about four days before Easter and would lay out such a feast..you were lucky if you wanted to even MOVE after eating.
She made loaves of Easter bread, which was sweet and filled with raisins and orange zest. Sadly that recipe has been lost. She made cheesecakes and pies. Roast beef, Turkey, Kilbasa and Ham. Side dishes galore. She boiled and colored the most beautiful eggs. There seemed to be enough food to feed an army. And the house smelled wonderful.
My sister, brother and I would all get beautiful Easter baskets filled with candy and toys. But mom would be so exhausted from preparations, she slept in, so we had to open them quietly.
We went to mass when we were young, but as we got older we stopped going. One day I'll have to put the picture up of us in our Easter finest.
Today it will just be me and the ham, as my sister is sick and Mr. Z has to work. But I know I can always come here and laugh with everyone and listen to Johnny Mathis. TINA..thank you.
Happy Easter to all of you that celebrate, and happy bunny (also knows as lets eat chocolate until we puke)day to those who don't observe.
Tina- wonderful blog today! I have to say that I miss hiding the kids Easter Candy and treats. We always hid everything, the basket was in the middle of the table empty, except for 1 chocolate bunny. It was so much fun. Until you found melted chocolate on a window ledge behind a curtain in July..... LOL
Hope everyone has a fab day- no matter what it is you are doing. I am going to brunch to GORGE myself!
GOLDIE: Happy Easter to you! I can't believe I still haven't eaten any chocolate today!
Mr. Z's family told a story about the missing hard boiled Easter egg. Seems it was under a couch cushion and no one had found it during the hunt. It was a couple weeks later when the stench lead them to the squished egg!! After that his mom would always make a list of where the eggs were hidden.
TINKA: I have been praying for you and hope you are doing better today.
JODI: Missing you bunches!
LOVEY: Miss you too!
Okay, I'm going to put a ham in the oven for the first time. I don't know why I am so nervous, I don't think I could mess it up. I think all you do is put in a pan and cook it for something. I don't know what the something would be. Do you think 350 sounds good? A lot of my frozen meals say that.
Good morning Maureen, iteach, Zona, Goldie, and of course Tina! What a great post!
Maureen, congrats on #1! I also love the Jewish version. Our church started having seder suppers on Holy Thursday (for the last supper). After all, our religion (the Catholic faith) is based on a lot of Jewish traditions!
Good Morning and Happy Easter/Purim!!!!
I hope you all have a Wonderful Day!
Thank you all for the Lovely/Funny comment's on my MS page. I hope you enjoyed all of your's.
It's been a nice quiet morning here and the SUN is out.
I'm showered and ready for my day. I need to go buy more stuff before I meet the family. The new toilet I want is only on sale until today.
Mo!!! Hopefully, it will no longer be sounding like Niagra Falls!!!
bwahahahaha!!!!!!!
Have a GREAT DAY!!!
xoxoxo
Sorry for being MIA for the last few days! I just started a new class on Tuesday and I have been loaded with the assignments already! (Some instructors forget that most of us work AND have a life)! This is my second to the last class before I graduate at the end of May! (These on-line classes move fast and they are INTENSE)!
Sorry...I tend to get side-tracked!
Morning Glories and Happy Easter!
Tina wonderful blog! Funny how traditions vary from family to family but at the same time connect us all. PS I think hiding the baskets is a little weird too! Hmmm the Evil Easter Bunny! LOL
Mo: Got 1st again! I guess we are going to call you a morning Dove! LOL
Iteach: The ham will be fine! I put mine in a roasting bag and it stays really moist. I used to cover with foil to keep it moist. We put it in at about 350. Good luck!
Goldie: You hid everything?? LOL Make em work for those treats!
Zona: You Mom's Easter Dinner sounds wonderful!!
Happy Easter to anyone who posts after me.
I wrote a blog for Carol about Easter yesterday too. Tina beat me to it tho. I think Carol is going to post it in the comments later. Or I will when I get back from working at the rest stop. It covered traditions also from when I was growing up.
Tina: What a fun blog! Every year my sister and I would get a new dress and hat from our grandmother (my mother still carries on the tradition with my daughter...minus the hat as my daughter is older now)!
We always went to Mass on Saturday night (for the Easter Vigil). My dad never went to church with us when we were young (he was angry with the Church for many years...long story...but now he's a DEACON)!
Anyway, we would get up on Easter morning to find baskets full of grass but with a note from the Easter Bunny. He left us a map of where to find our eggs and candy. (My sister and I had separate maps so we didn't fight)! I always thought it odd that the Easter Bunny and my dad had the same hand writing! ; )
Then, my mom would make roast beef and mashed potatoes (I'm sure there was more...but that was all I liked)! Both my grandmothers would come over for dinner and my sister and I would eat candy all day (and bicker, I'm sure)!
Our egg hunts were always outside, but if it rained, we'd have a map for indoors!
My dad was always fun that way!
My daughter enjoys the Easter Vigil mass, so we go to it. Things were a lot different when she was young (as we always had to split the day between grandparents). We hid eggs for Katie when she was really young, but it got to be such a hassle to get to church and go to all the different places, that we got out of the habit.
Now that it's just Katie and me, I leave her a basket full of candy and usually a gift, at her place at the table.
My mom still gets her a dress, but said Katie could go with her to pick it out next year (as Katie is getting older and has her own tastes now).
I am thankful I have Katie this year for Easter. (It is horrible to split the holidays)! We will be going to brunch (the new tradition) with my parents later today!
Sorry for writing so much...I've missed out on a lot! ; )
Wahbear: I did scan the Brady Bunch post and saw you liked the Partridge Family too! THAT would have been MY dream! I loved music then too and thought it would be COOL to have a family that puts on concerts and travels together!
ITEACH: I always cook the ham at 350 too. Comes out great. I usually make a glaze of pineapple juice and brown sugar. I poke some holes in the top and pour the glaze over. Really good. If you like pineapple you can put some on top too.
BIRDEE: LOL! You go get that toilet girl!! God you make me laugh!
JENNIFER: Pop in when you can, we're very flexible here!
LYNND: The food WAS delicious. We had people stopping by all day, and there was always enough. We hid our Easter baskets in our rooms though.
I have a question. this morning I was im'ing with a friend and we were wondering how the Bunny traditions started for Easter? I can understand the lamb connection, but not sure of the bunny. Is the chocolate significant because people generally gave up sweets for lent?
I hate to sound stupid, but I also like to learn things and who better to ask then my learned owl friends!!!
BIRDEE...Purim ended yesterday, but thanks for the happy wishes!!
Next month is Passover! But I will be eating bread and bread products ;)~
BIRDEE gets an Easter toilet? LOL. Will that be a new tradition in your family??? LOL I love ya Birdeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Ok kids I am showered and even have makeup on!! Must look good for the travelers and truckers! LMAO!
Birdee: May I suggest you get a pastel colored toilet in honor of Easter!
Mo: I have no idea how the Easter bunny started. Hope someone does because I would like to know too!
Jennifer: Easter Brunch sounds wonderful! Hope you and Katie have fun!
Ok gotta run my friend will be here soon to pick me up! Love you Owls!
Lynn, yes everything. Little piles of chocolate eggs, and all the other goodies. It was so much fun, and the kids would get so excited when they would find something. My parents did the same for us.
I remember my utter shock when we were at my SIL's one year for Easter. They put the baskets out on the table and then a big bowl full of candy in the middle. HUH? WTF? My kids cried because the bunny didn't come. I told them he came at our house and when we got home later that day (we had spent a long weekend there) they would have thier hunt. They alwasys felt that their cousins were ripped off in the Easter Bunny dept.
You HOoters are too funny about my Toilet!!
It will be Grand!!!
I don't plop ass just anywhere when its' nekkid!!!! don'tcha know!! LOL
Happy Beautiful Easter
Tina, what a lovely post. I really enjoyed the music.
Loved your traditions of the underwear and socks, and I bet your children will carry that on to your grandchildren some day. We always got those in our Christmas stockings. Funny how things get started and the tradition goes on and on.
Maureen, congratulations on #1 this beautiful morning, and Happy Purin to you, my friend, it sounds like you have a wonderful day planned.
iteach, I think your ham sounds just fine at 350, and don't you just love it when Daddy's got all involved with the egg hunt, by giving clues?
zona, Your mom's bread sounds so good. I wish there was some way her recipe could be found and enjoyed again. Special times, huh?
goldie, gotta love that chocolate. When I was a little girl, our chocolate bunnies were huge and solid, and for the life of me, I can't find them anymore. They're all hollow, but still yummy.
Jennifer, Proud of you for sticking to your school work. When my two children got to be about 11 years old, I too put their basket of goodies at their place at the table. I remember the year before I did that, it was "Oh Mom, please! We're a little old to run around the yard looking for eggs in our pajamas."
lynnd, Morning Glories and Happy Easter to you too. It is really interesting how everyone's family have different traditions. I'm looking forward to your Easter post later.
birdee, Glad to hear your getting a new toilet for Easter. So I guess your basket this year will be of the porcelain design. One thing for sure, it won't be that hard to find when The Hunt starts.
We always go to Easter Sunrise service and I so love it I'm back home for a while, but will be joining my family for our traditional Easter ham dinner later.
We always had the beautiful eggs to hunt and the basket filled with goodies. A tradition that began with my husbands family, when he was a little boy, we carry-on today with my little grandchildren is so sweet. The day before Easter, our family takes all the kids to a field of wild flowers and they pick enough blossoms to fill their basket, making a nest for the Easter Bunny to leave his goodies in. It's always a beautiful day for us, and the children always try to out-do each other. We never bought the different colored grasses except for a giant arrangement of eggs and flowers on the dinner table.
Maureen this is what I found so far on the internet.
The idea of an egg-laying bunny came to the United States in the 18th century. German immigrants in the Pennsylvania Dutch area told their children about the "Osterhas," sometimes spelled "Oschter Haws." "Hase" means "hare," not rabbit, and in Northwest European folklore the "Easter Bunny" indeed is a hare, not a rabbit. According to the legend, only good children received gifts of colored eggs in the nests that they made in their caps and bonnets before Easter.[3] Jakob Grimm wrote of long-standing similar myths in Germany itself. Noting many related landmarks and customs, Grimm suggested that these derived from legends of Ostara.[4]
The German and Amish legends were most likely rooted in European folklore about hares' eggs[5] which seems to have been a confusion between hares raising their young at ground level and the finding of plovers' nests nearby, abandoned by the adult birds to distract predators. Hares use a hollow called a form rather than a burrow. Lapwings nest on the same sort of ground, and their nests look very similar to hare forms. So in the Spring, eggs would be found in what looked like hare forms, giving rise to the belief that the hare laid eggs in the spring.[6]
[edit] References
Oldest civilations recognized womens cycles and birth with the cycles of the moon. The hare was the symbol of the moon. So it followed that the moon and the rabbit both became the symbol of rebirth or life after death. Today, Easter is celebrated around the time of the Paschal Moon in Spring.
Later, the Celts and other early European groups celebrated the festival of Eastre, a goddess of the dawn associated with springtime. Her symbol was the rabbit, the most fertile animal and a symbol of new life. Many people think that the modern feast of Easter developed from springtime feasts to honor Eastre.
During the Middle Ages, the rabbit also became associated with chicken eggs, since both were symbols of fertility and rebirth in the spring. The Easter Bunny as a holiday symbol delivering candy and eggs is thought to have started around that time in Germany.
Germany is also where the first edible Easter bunnies were made during the early 1800s, when baked pastry bunnies first appeared. Together with gummy candies shaped like eggs, (which is where jelly beans came from), they were placed in straw nests in secluded areas of the house or in the garden for children to find.
The custom changed over time and eventually the Easter Bunny began to deposit eggs - in childrens shoes. It may well have been the world's first scavenger hunt!
When German people came to the United States, they brought their customs with them and soon everyone was waiting for the Easter Bunny to arrive with colored eggs, chocolate bunnies and jelly beans!
Children's shoes were not big enough to hold all of the goodies, so Easter baskets became the popular place to hide the holiday goodies..
Elsewhere, when Europeans began to settle in Australia, they found that there were no rabbits, so they brought rabbits with them.
Since rabbits are the symbol of fertility, they did their rabbit duty and produced a lot of new rabbits. Eventually, there were so many rabbits that they became a problem.
Having this pesky rodent as a symbol for Easter celebrations just was not a good idea, so a new symbol was born. The bilby is an endangered animal in Australia. It looks almost like a rabbit...and then it was decided. The Easter Bunny would retire and the Easter Bilby took the job.
Today, if you travel to Australia you'll find plenty of chocolate Easter Bilby candy and Easter Bilby cards!
TMI????? LOL!!
Maureen,
Here is the last piece of information that I found.
The Easter Bunny has a long history. It was brought to America from Germany by immigrants in the Pennsylvania Dutch area. It has become an integral part of the American Easter tradition and has to a lesser degree been accepted in the UK.

What Is the Easter Bunny?
The Easter Bunny is usually considered to be a benevolent, vaguely supernatural creature that brings gifts to good boys and girls. Today these gifts are usually in the form of chocolate Easter eggs.
The origin of the Easter Bunny probably goes back to the festival's connection with the pagan goddess Eostre. Eostre (sometimes spelt Oestre) was a fertility goddess from whom we derive the word "oestrogen" and she is closely associated with fertility symbols such as eggs. The rabbit is known as a highly fertile creature and hence an obvious choice for Easter symbolism.
In fact the use of a rabbit is probably a mistake - the Easter "bunny" is more likely to be a hare, since it is the hare that is usually considered the sacred creature of Eostre. Hares have been considered sacred by many cultures inclusing the ancient Egyptians who believed them to watch the moon during the night. Although hares and rabbits are related they are most definitely different creatures, as a certain Bugs keeps reminding us!
The earliest known reference to our modern Easter Bunny tradition appears to be from 16th century Germany. In the 18th century, German settlers to America brought the tradition with them. The Bunny was known by them as Oschter Haws (or Osterhase) and brought gifts of chocolate, candy and Easter Eggs to good children. Often children would make up nests for Oschter Haws, sometimes using their Easter bonnets, and the Bunny would leave his treats there.
Fewer children today have bonnets or build nests, however it is common in some places for the Easter Bunny to scatter and/ or hide its treats for the children to find on an Easter egg hunt. A Bunny costume is a also popular suit for the festivities.
The idea of a giant supernatural rabbit that lays millions of chocolate eggs in one night is, of course, incongruous and ridiculous. Fortunately that is no problem for the imaginations of young children.
Lucky them.
Maureen we posted at the same time!
I will fly back when the children are napping.
That was interesting, Maureen and iteach. Thank you.
Happy Easter!
Tina Thank you for writing today's Easter blog, I had e-mailed you the beginning of the week and asked you to write the Easter blog, without hesitation you said yes, even tho you and I both know, it makes your nervous, you still obliged me.
Friendship is a wonderful thing!
Your Easter blog is terrific, and you song was a very nice touch!
Many Thanks!
This is a flyby! On the way to eat dinner with my Aunt!
HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!:)
Congrats to Maureen on 1st-2 days in a row!:)
Sorry...extreme wallowing happening here...but I seem to be feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning. Most of the time, being single is great, but sometimes on a holiday it sucks. And today it sucks. The Easter bunny didn't visit and my plans to get together with family fell through. A date I had last night with an old boyfriend which I thought might lead to plans for today, didn't. So I am by myself without an Easter basket. Okay, it's a snappoutofit moment. I try not to eat candy and chocolate anyways because I don't eat a lot of sugar, so this Easter Bunny is going to go to the store and get the favourite purple tulips for the table (and maybe just one chocolate egg). I have a gift certificate for a Starbucks soy chai (love, love love the chai!!!) I will get that while the easter Bunny and I are out looking for flowers. And while I am doing that, I will head to the park and watch the kids do the community Easter egg hunt. Fun! I have the Owls to visit with during the day and I will call the friend who invited me for dinner but I turned down because I thought I had family plans, to see if she can throw another carrot in the pot and I will go there for dinner. And I will call another friend to see if she wants to go to a movie this afternoon. Okay, I got it figured out...all is well...being single is good again....no more wallowing. I am not sure if I am going to hit the publish your comment button...once again just writing this for myself has been cathartic...but if I do...thanks for listening. And Happy Easter everyone!
Hey Carol! You and I were posting at the same EGGS-ZACK time!:)hehe
HEY TO ALL OF YOU OTHER OWLETTES!
Happy Easter Carol and Joey.
woo hoo....25!!
ITEACH...thanks for the info. I also decided to be a big girl and look it up!! I posted it, too!
I love learning about holiday traditions. Like the Christmas pickle and the significance of the pineapple (not of the other blog kind!!)
JENNIFER...no need to apologize about missing a few days. Your school work is of utmost importance and should be the priority. As long as you are ok is all we care about.
RONNIE...that sounds like such fun picking the wild flowers. I am picturing the kids running thru a field. Kinda like the opening of Little House on the Prairie! And LMAO at Birdee's basket being of the porcelain kind!! too funny!
ZONA...you are never alone...you have us!
I bought an orange cream filled Cadbury egg yesterday...OMG. So gonna go and get more!
I love how we celebrate each other here in the nest!!
Awwww Vig, I can relate somewhat..If it was not for having my Aunt close-by, I'd be in the same boat as you! Missing my brothers today and the honey!:(:(
It's good you got it out..We're always here to listen!
LMAO@throw another carrot in the pot
Okay, I really gotta run...bye for now!
Yesterday I received a Easter blog from lynnd, since I already had one, I could not post hers as the blog. I e-mailed Lynn and she was very understanding and left it up to me to handle it. It is so beautifully written, I am going to post it as comment.
I want to thank Lynn as well, for being so understanding! And for letting this blog be a wonderful place to be. She was terrific!
Easter
by Lynnd
Easter when I was growing up was very much a family event. We would load up the car and head out to Grandma and Grandpa J’s for a huge family celebration. I mean the whole family Aunts, Uncles Cousins the works.
Grandma and Grandpa had a small house in Centrailia Washington and to this day I am amazed that everyone fit inside when we gathered. They had a huge yard however, where Grandpa would have the croquet set up. The front porch was large and covered and came in handy if it rained. Grandma would have the front flower beds all pretty and flowers in bloom every time. It took me years to figure out that all of the tulips in her front flower beds were plastic!!! LOL Her reasoning was they were easier to plant and take care of.
Our parents would buy us all new Easter outfits. The girls would have new dresses with hats and gloves and little purses, of course our new Mary Jane’s in patent leather. The boys would have on suits or slacks and vests and we would all be lugging our Easter Baskets. This was tradition.
Then we would all arrive and Grandma and the Aunts would get the food set up. My Dad and Uncles would be outside hiding eggs. There was always a Golden egg (actually yellow) this was the egg to find. It was always confirmed by cracking it as it was raw. That egg made us tear around the yard looking high and low for it. The boys would even get into shoving matches if they thought someone had found it first. Why you ask??? Because it was worth the highest prize….. A new silver dollar to the finder.
By the end of the day we would look like orphans with dirty clothes and sticky candy all over us. The outfits might never come clean. We didn’t care it was worth it because Easter at Grandma’s was special at that age.
Now looking back it was great fun and makes me nostalgic. It may explain why every spring I stop to look at the new spring dresses and you know what I miss Easter Bonnets and little gloves.
What were your Easter traditions?
VIG...if you lived closer, you would be SOOOOO welcome at our family dinner this afternoon.
It wouldn't be religious, but there is going to be ham and all the fixins...and guaranteed laughter!
{{{hugs}}} and remember, you are never alone with your feathered friends.
Happy Easter to CAROL and JOEY, too!!
vig

VIG: I wish you would have come here for Easter! I will be alone with my ham and kilbasa...and mounds of chocolate! I also have a very nice Hugh Grant movie picked out for this afternoon. It's supposed to be in the 80's. I'm sure though that your friend will be able to fit another carrot in the pot. {{HUGS}} glad you hit publish. :)
MO & ITEACH: thank you for the informatiion on the Easter Hare...I think I know why they changed it to "Bunny" though. ;)
BIRDEE: You goof!! LOL!!
RGIRL: Did you say TINA's...grandchildren?? I wonder if she has even thought that far ahead?? ;)
I LOVE the idea with the flowers..how beautiful!
JOEY: Have a wonderful dinner with your Aunt..Happy Easter!
CPGEM: Happy Easter to you too! Friendship IS a wonderful thing!
LYNND: Loved your blog too! I wish we would have had egg hunts...and to find the Golden Egg...how fun that would have been!
Maybe I should do that with the plastic flowers..at least I could have the look of Spring here!
CPGEM: Thanks for posting this!
Oh thank you so very much kind Maureen, Joey, CPGEM, Zona...I do indeed feel better. Thank you so much for your words and for for being there!
Tina and Lynn_D...thank you, thank you for your blogs filled with memories. They are wonderful and....oh my goodness..I had truly forgotten all those fabulous Easter childhood traditions. I was thinking yesterday that Easter in my house was just about eggs and ham (no, not the green kind!!!)...but reading all the fabulous posts this morning about celebrating traditions has reminded me of things that were buried in the cobwebs of my mind! Getting a new hairdo, dress, gloves and a hat (I just looked at a picture of myself...I look like a five year old Opie's Aunt Bea) to go to church. I had forgotten about Easter baskets with skipping ropes and things for spring. And I had forgotten about dying Easter eggs that would sit in a special bowl on the dining room table and that turned ones fingers blue for a few days. Oh, lovely memories..thank you to you all for reviving them. I love that so many of you have continued on with those traditions in your adult life! Have a Happy Easter to all that have hopped in here this morning..Maureen, iteach, Goldie, Zona, Jennifer, birdee, lynn_d, ronnie, cpgem, joey! And Happy Easter to all those that hop or fly by later!
Happy Easter!
My Easter's were very similar to all of yours.
We would dye the eggs on Saturday Night, and put them in a basket on the kitchen table. On Easter Morning my mom would hide them as I slept and when I woke I would run around like crazy trying to find them. And of course she had a Easter Basket waiting for me. And then we went to church.
My parents owned a Italian Restaurant, so they would have to work, I would go to one of my relatives house for dinner and feast on all the good Italian food. When my brother got married, he would work at the restaurant as well, and I would then spend my Easters with my SIL, and her family.
Another great memory, is my Mom baking all the Easter Breads. She still bakes all these wonderful things, and it is a smell that I long for each Easter. "Pizza Gain." Which is a Italian meat pie, is my favorite. She also make Easter Sweet Bread, Sweet Pie, and Easter Taralles.
Many good wishes to all of you!!
Just wanted to HOP back on for a minute before I change clothes AGAIN, and join back-up with the family for dinner.
Sweet vig, I just wish I could drive by and pick you up so you could be with us. I know one thing, you would get a lot of laughs and some great food there.
I hope you enjoy your Easter, and at least you didn't have to put on one of those frilly little girl hats today.
Love to all and I'm wishing each and everyone a glorious Easter.
Ronnie
Happy Easter everyone - Thank you Tina for the beautiful blog. Mauren - You are the real thing in my books.
I am going to save all your beautiful stories of Easter. Today they are making me cry and I can't see the screen to read. I guess I am feeling a little sorry for myself because today is not going to be the same Easter as I am used to for all these years. We had wonderful traditions when I was small, when my children were small and when my grand children were small. It is different this year so I will concentrate on what blessings I have. I may be back later to talk about my favourites. Otherwise I will look forward to reading all the great ones on today's blog. God bless you all. Love, Tinka

My grandfather opened the restaurant in 1963 and called it Mamma Lucia's.
It was in Newark, NJ in the Italian section of Newark which is called the North Ward. I have lots of childhood memories of Mamma Lucia's as I spent many days there. My dad was a tailor by trade, however when my grandfather passed, my dad took the restaurant over. My grandfather had taught my father to cook, so my dad became a chef. My mom and dad owned the restaurant for 30yrs and it was very successful. When my dad retired, he gave the restaurant to my brother. Eventually my brother moved the restaurant, and after a couple of years he walked away from it. So we just closed it down...
It was Northern Italian, and my mom and aunts would do the cooking as well.
I was a waitress there for 14yrs...
All my nephews worked there as well, it was a family affair.
I miss it, Thanks for allowing me to reminisce!
Happy Holy Days to Everyone!
Thanks to Tina & LynnD for the great blogs! Next post, I'll share some memories.
VIG~~It's a solitary Easter for me as well this year so I know just how you feel. I will never get used to having NO family around for holidays. To borrow from Tennesse Williams, "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers" ~~ well, friends actually, and in the most innocent and best possible way~~ But one does tire of being the adopted orphan welcomed into friends' large holiday gatherings where there's always room for one or two more. Today it's off to the movies with other 'orphans'.
From Area 51:
Mary/MI (March 23, 2008 1:36 AM): I give up. What are 'developed eggs'? Is that because they shouldn't be 'deviled' on a religious holiday?
Joey: Sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday. Good for you!
and from today's comments........(I'm loving ALL of them!)
Birdee: Promise not to eat the (floating) chocolate eggs from your porcelain 'basket'! :=D~
VIG: Literally LOL at "a five year old Aunt Bea"!
For those who haven't already seen it, here's some PEEP ART ( Rated G) :

Maureen
number 1 again. LOL
Tinkatia
we love you and we send you warm hugs and puppy dog kisses. I kept you in my prayers every night to get well by Easter.
I have fond Easter memories. My parents would buy my sister and I a new dress, bonnet and I loved white gloves so I was allowed those also along with black shiny dress shoes. I loved getting all dressed up as a child. I was always little miss prim and proper anyhow. My sis was the tomboy. She wasn't so thrilled with dresses. When we were children my Mom would hide the Easter eggs and my sister and I would have wonderful Easter egg hunts with the eggs that we helped our Mom dye the night before. As we got older then me and my sister would hide them and take turns finding them. We always had our weaved baskets with the colored grass filled full of creme eggs, jelly beans and of course a chocolate rabbit and some plastic eggs that opened in the middle and held littl surprises.
On a Christian level and because Germany was brought up it reminds me of living in Germany and traveling to see the Gutenburg bible which is the oldest bible known. It was behind a glass case.
For dinner today our family is breaking the ham tradition and we'r having a steak barBQ outdoors by my parents swimming pool.I will try to remember to take pictures and post them on Myspace.
I have my friend Fred on the phone as I blog away. He wanted to hear your stories so today we have a lurker by phone.:0) He had some comments for some of you (he's really funny like Joey) but I've written enough already so I will wish you all a very happy Easter!I won't write out the list of names above me because more will come in after me and I don't want to leave anyone out. Have a wonderful day all of you and I'm so glad that Carol has created our nest. We love you Carol!
Good Morning..
Before I read everyone's comments
Tina- want a beautiful blog this Glorious Easter Morning..
This music is making me cry - it reminds me of the choir from my old church in Colorado Springs- one of the BEST things about Easter is the music and the celebration that:
Christ, our Lord, has RISEN!!!!
HALLELUJAH!! HALLELUJAH!!!
Sadly, I had to miss church this morning - I think that is why the music upset me so much!! My throat is totally swollen shut and Mr. MEK let me sleep - (my mother is NOT happy with me AT ALL!!!)..
We will be going to her clubhouse today for an Easter potluck!! So - I should be getting ready - to go make them all sick. I do NOT feel like going - but my mother has reminded me SEVERAL times that she has paid for me to go and it is EASTER!!!!!!!!
Good grief...
Favorite Easter memories:
*Mom's traditional dinner of baked ham (always with an orange pineapple glaze over a 'crust' of brown sugar and whole cloves poked into each corner of the diamond shaped cuts into the entire surface), scalloped potatoes and fluffy popovers.
*The matching pastel/white seersucker striped dresses made by Aunt Marj for myself (lavender)and cousins, Darlene (lime green) and Sherry (pink). We were 8, 7 and 5 years old. She also made matching drawstring 'handbags' by crafting the fabric over empty plastic cottage cheese pint tubs. Each of us, of course, had new white Mary Jane shoes. Then it was off to church and a potluck picnic at the beach.
*The traditional egg hunts, much as described by others posting before me. For my young daughter and her friends, I would also toss hundreds of pennies from our deck over the above-ground basement patio area. For years I found stray pennies in the rockery, under the dogwood tree, behind the rhodies along the fenceline.
*Easter 2001, when daughter and SIL brought the grandbaby home to Nana for the first time (from Hanau, Germany where they were stationed when she was born). Needless to say the house was draped in banners and plush bunnies were scattered throughout every room of the house!
*The 'goosebump moments' of our mega-church's professional quality annual Passion Play, including Christ on the cross, rolling the stone away from the tomb, etc. Advance tickets to 5 performances were required for attendance, and the police had to direct traffic between performances. It is a BIG deal and could melt the heart of a Hitler!
Our Easter traditions..
My mother made us kids give up candy for Lent - (in our family - there was NO taking off Sunday) - so it was straight from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday!!
My mom made my sister and I matching Easter outfits and bought us a hat, gloves and new shoes!! My brother got a new suit - My dad only went to church on Christmas and Easter - we would have to pose for pictures in the front yard in front of a blooming bush or flower!!
We colored eggs the day before - each of us got to write our name on one of them with that little wax pencil - so that egg was always in our basket - each got a chocolate bunny rabbit, jelly beans and a big marshmellow egg!! and some of those small chocolate Easter eggs...(My dad LOVED the black jelly beans and would always sneak them from our baskets) ... I don't know "who" hid the eggs, but we had to eat breakfast before we could hunt thru the house... mom always took pictures of us finding the eggs - either mom or Dad always knew how many eggs were missing... after the hunt - it didn't matter who had found the most, she would divide them up evenly - then they went back into the fridge (so not to spoil)...
After the hunt - it was off to church and then home for a ham dinner..
(now - I will read everyone's comments!!!)..
I hope everyone has a Glorious Easter Sunday!!!
:-)
Tina-

EASTER FUN FOR OWLETTES
I have to take a nap..I ate WAY too much! LOL

Mek: I got 2 of those fabulous orange creme eggs today..I have not had them in years!
Have a good rest of your Sunday y'all...I should be back later!

It is so not solitary...
The nest is alive and kicking with stories, and Happy Easter blessings!
We are here...You are not alone
:O)
Happy Wonderful Sunday To Everyone!
I hope you are all enjoying the day with family, friends, or if you are like me and Laurie, with just ourselves!!!
I've enjoyed reading everyone's different ways of celebration.
Dreama, thank you so much for letting me know about Sophie. If you do talk to her again, please send her my love, tell her I am thinking about her and sending lots of hugs and encouragement her way. We all go through the tough times, and I can understand needing time away from everything for a while. Just let her know that we are all with her and will love it when she returns to the nest!
Off to watch Friday Night Lights, (the real one, the movie, with Billy Bob Thornton), then Laurie and I are going to roast some turkey parts ( we love the thighs and drumsticks) and have a nice calm, relaxing day.
Peace, Love, and Happiness to all my lovely Owls and Owlettes!!!
DonnaJean and Laurie Elizabeth
We're off to an Easter brunch, so...
I just want to re-iterate DonnJean's sentiments and wishes!
From A51: Dianne: Don't know when my next trip to Denver will be!
East Bay: Huz is too youthful (IMHO) looking to be a Daddy Bear! LOL!
OK, see you all later... Happy Easter!
Hi everyone!
Happy Easter!
I'm at work today, so another hooter who won't be doing anything exciting.
My huz is working too, so we will have some take out later on.
The best thing I remember from our Easters when I was a child was the lamb cake my mom made!
It was a metal mold, in 2 pieces. You put half the cake batter in each piece, and baked it.
When it was done, you stuck the halves together with frosting, then frosted the outside.
She would sprinkle coconut over the outside to make it look like wool. The eyes would be 2 small buttons (or whatever little black things she could find).
I'll have to see if I can find an old picture and post it. It looks like a lamb laying down, so cute!
Will write more later!
EBJ~~I thought of finding photos of the similar bunny (head and ears only) cake my mom made for my daughter, with colored icing, coconut 'fur', gum drop nose and eyes, licorice whiskers. Too cute, and STILL my daughter's favorite Easter memory.
If you can while at work, pull up the link JOEY just gave us. OMG, Thank you Joey.....I might be up all night tonight playing!!!
MEK~~Thanks for the photo comment about sharing each of the pups' individual Easter portraits they took today with their new owners later. What a GREAT idea!
OK, time to run. You all have been such good company as always. LUV U
Niece Zona...hope you are okay and are enjoying Hugh and the kielbasa!
MEK...thank you for your kind words! Sorry you are not feeling well today! That's crappy on any day but especially on a holiday! Feel well soon! And maybe SOM will be on again tonight to make you feel better!
Ronnie and Maureen and Zona...your invitations are so sweet! Wouldn't it be cool if we could all spend a special day together!
Nice lady Tinka and Kindred one Bono...big hugs to you. I discover over and over again that this blog is a great place to come to feel better...hope you are coming here alot today and wrapping your arms in the Owls wings. And I hope you have discovered that your day, as different as it is from other years gone by, will have its own great memories in itself.
After wallowing in self pity this morning, my day has vastly improved. Going for a walk in this beautiful city where spring has truly sprung (my apologies to the people covered in snow!!) and seeing the cherry blossoms, daffodils and children with their easter baskets, made my pissy mood lift tremendously. Found a funky bakery that has chocolate hot cross buns (all I can say about that is OMG!!!!)and found the most gorgeous deep pink tulips (even better the purple ones) and now my Easter day has become quite lovely. And a big part of that is from the caring words of the Owls...thank you all!
VIG, Tink, and Bon'O:
I can relate to the sadness of the holidays. I felt the same way last year (as Katie was with her dad and it was the first Easter I was alone). It does suck! You're right too that the holidays are the time when you realize most you are alone!
A fellow divorced friend and I have renamed Valentine's Day to Singles Awareness Day! (But I think I heard someone say that someone referred to it being called that on TV). It is sad to see all the flowers sitting in the office on that day (knowing that NONE of them are for you)!
Thank goodness we do have each other to lean on! I am so glad to be part of this group! I hope my silliness can wear off and make everyone smile here!
Whabbear: I apologize for mis-spelling your name earlier! (I guess I need to read that story)!
Lynn-D: I loved your post as well!
Hope everyone finds peace and joy today!
Hugs to all!
Good Afternoon Everyone!
Tink and Vig, (((((HUGS))))) I hope
you both are feeling better. I'm sorry you were sad today!
I'm enjoying reading all of your Easter memories, traditions. All so sweet! Thanks for sharing them.
I just got home a little while ago.
I ate just enough to feel full. My dog's even had Easter dinner...I brought scraps home for them.
My niece was there, the one that had to have the emerg. c-section. so I got to see her baby again. He's so cute and tiny!
My daughter & grandaughter stayed home today. She's been running ragged and has a sinus thing going
on. So, she was just going to have a quiet dinner for the two of them.
I don't mind, as much as they are on the go during the week, this was their time to just chill and be together.
It's been a pretty nice day here.
The sun has been out all day and the dog's got to play. They are now full and ready for their nap.
think I will change into some comfy pj's and relax for a bit.
I have more of your stories to read too.
I hope you all have had a Wonderful day!
xoxox
P.S. My toilet is here!!!! My butt will be breaking it in soon! lol
Hi Owls I am home and starving!!! Mr. Lynn D has the ham ready and I am going to go eat and then come back and post!
I do have to say that I had a wonderful afternoon. I had some very pleasant surprises today! Met some great people out traveling.
Be back in a bit. (((Hugs)))
Lynn- I am the opposite of you right now. I haven't left the house today and boy does that feel great!
Hi owlettes!
I just got back from the cousins house. It was really nice and I fell asleep on the couch and snored for over an hour!! Ooopsies!
JENNIFER...we're glad you are here, too!
CAROL...my mouth is watering thinking of the restaurant! I wish I could have gone there...at least once. And as I sit here thinking I have to hem my slacks for tomorrow, I was wishing I could give them to your dad and let him do it!! A tailor and a chef...be still my heart!
I stopped at Walgreen's on my way to the family and bought 12 Cadburry Orange eggs! I felt guilty so I gave...2 away!
I will catch up and see y'all in a while.
Oh I love reading all of your posts!
Iteach and Mo: Thank you for the Easter Bunny history lesson. I figured part of it had to do with fertility, eggs, bunnies etc...
Vig, Tinka and Bono: I wish I could just scoop you up and bring you over for some ham and Easter Goodies! (((Hugs)))
Vig: I loved your minature Aunt Bea references! I Laughed out Loud!
Well I spent from 10:00 until 2:00 at the rest stop and I have to say that was the most fun I have had in awhile.
I don't know if other states do this but the state of WA lets charity organizations sign up to raise money. We have to provide goodies. We had coffee, cookies, tea, and cocoa. Travelers stop and these items are free. We do put out a donation jar and signs that indicate what charity we represent, but we cannot ask for a donation directly. So the travelers can get a beverage or cookie for free.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised that 99.9 percent left donations!
My friend and I ran our fannies off but it was great fun. We met all kinds of people coming up from AZ,Nevada and Cali. They were all bemoaning our weather as we have had pouring rain and very cold temps today. I don't know how many people said we left and it was 80 degrees and sunshine. Is the weather here always like this? I would laugh and tell them welcome to the NW and yes our weather is always like this. Hehehehe Don't need them moving here. LMAO!!
Two travelers showed up and they were soaking wet!! Riding Motorcycles in this weather will do that to you. They came around the corner and spotted us and were surprised. I asked if the wanted some coffee and they both broke out in grins and said yes yes! The one young man had on red gloves and I handed him his coffee and the gloves were literally dripping water. The other young man was shivering. We got them coffee and told them to take some cookies. Both of them had red chapped hands from the cold. I suggested that they use the mens restroom and put there hands under the hand dryers. They looked at us like we were their life line. Eventually one of them spotted our signs and realized we were there for charity. He was amazed that we were volunteering on Easter to do this. I saw them wander off and I thought they were using the restroom. They came back and put 20.00 dollars in our donation jar and let us know how fantastic that we were there and thought it was great that our state let us do this!
One of them came back for a refill and then asked if we would mind if he took our picture to take back home to show people. So we let him with our charity sign behind us! I finally asked where they were headed? Well Vig and Tinka these adorable young men were from Vancouver BC and Victoria and they were headed home from California!
I would do this again in a heart beat for a fundraiser! This made my Easter very special and memorable!
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!
We had a fun time at the beach. There was a storm last night and most of this morning when we were leaving. Actually lost power in the campground right after 8pm last night and it did not come back on until afet 9am this morning. I made up Easter baskets for the kids and none of them were into going outside and looking for eggs. I decided to do it Saturday morning because Katie was leaving Saturday afternoon. But they were not about to go outside and look for all the candy filled plastic eggs. My kids are lame. You would think Katie at 26, Bryan at 21 and his 22 year old GF Celina would be up for anything.....but noooooooo. So they all picked out a basket and started opeing eggs lokijng for money. Ummmm...no....it's all candy you ungrateful little shits! Their a funny bunch!
Carol....you brought a tear to my eye when you quoted me regarding your Aunt Jo. I'm so glad that my words to you meant something. Thank you.
The Brady Bunch rocks!!!! I watched that show every day after school. I loved it. Still do. It cracks me up. I can not even pick a favorite episode. I love so many of them....when Davy Jones visits, when Greg becomes Johnny Bravo, OH MY NOSE! They are all great. This is kinda funny....I guy used to come into the office and his name is Barry Williams. So I used to call him Johnny Bravo. And since my name is Barbara Gordon, he would call be Batgirl!
thats call ME Batgirl...not be....oiy...
Lynn-that was way too cool! I have never heard of that before.
Your day made me smile from ear to ear!
Barbara, my mother stopped giving when I was 13.
I think that it is great that you still give your "adult" children candy!
That is cool!
88
BarbWa: They wouldn't hunt up the Easter eggs?? Where is the money? I agree the little shits! LMAO Batgirl!
Iteach I am still smiling too! Even tho I just had to clean up dog puke one of the dogs has an upset tummy! Hmmm I wonder if it could be the ham my son fed her? Yep that's it!

Happy Easter Owls!!
I don't really remember any special traditions from my childhood. it seemed like every year we had a basket with some candy, but it was different each year and sometimes we dyed eggs and sometimes they were hidden. Never the same every year though...
For my kids I am all about tradition. When my daughter was a baby I was selling Longaberger Baskets (www.longaberger.com) and I bought several Easter baskets that year. Well, it is ironic because I had enough baskets for the number of kids I ended up having. I like that they have the same basket every year, so we can see how much they grow next to that basket. I fill it with some candies, but try not to over do it with the sweets. They get the medium chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and Resses Cups...then I ALWAYS stuff their basket with a new swim suit, a new large package of crayons, a large bottle of bubbles and usually a game. They also get a small stuffed animal (this year I found adorable stuffed lambs.)
This year on Thanksgiving we were at a friend's home and they made turkey AND ham. Well, we discovered that my kids LOVE ham, so I am baking a ham right now, along with cheesy scalloped potatoes, brocolli and croisant rolls. I also have lemon cake for dessert.
Yesterday we went to 2 egg hunts and one of them was a real event! We had never gone before, but we will never miss it again. There were tons of people, horse rides, 1300 stuffed plastic eggs and lots of yummy food. My favorite part was that they hired a bagpiper and he played the pipes while the kids looked. You had to see the view to understand how incredible this was.
Glad the egg hunts were yesterday though... it was sunny! Today, pouring rain. It lt us get home from church though before it got too bad. I wish you could smell how yummy everything smells here. I love making a big dinner!!
Hope you are all finding some joy and peace in this day. Tink, you are in my prayers.
Carol... I am still waiting to be adopted into that big Italian family of yours!!

Is this the bunny hop, instead of a march, to 100?
Iteach - glad your dinner turned out well...
are you marching alone??!!
go for it g
VIG - Princess Dairies is on the FAM channel and then SOM - so we're good to go!!!

SORRY - but I just had too!!!
LOL

Goldie and Glynis... sorry about that..
I just got home and it was hanging!!!!...
MEK you sneaky bitch!! LOL
Hope it brings you joy MEK.
Happy Easter.
In honor of the oweletts, I am eating a Cadbury creme egg!Not an easy task when typing LOL!
Goldie - you bring a smile to my face..
Glynis - Happy Easter to you also..
Mary - I have never liked those cadbury things - too goey for me..
BUT - gotta love those vanilla cream eggs!!!
Just checking in myself MEK
I was happy to have my confusion about lynn cleared up. I was a bit concerned earlier when she said she was putting on makeup and dressing for the travelers at the truckstop.. Hmm, we have a name for that here. I'm happy to know shw doesn't charge and only accepts gratuities!!!
Goldie - I was thinking the same about Lynn.
Lynn - I am SO thankful that your afternoon went well - those rest stops can be scary places!!
Had a lovely brunch today and am now just starting to think about something to eat for dinner. Thinking, not moving too fast.
How was your lunch with Mom today MEK? Are you feeling any better?
Mary- pass those eggs..
Darn I missed it, dang husband!
We just got back from the potluck at my mom's clubhouse - they drew table numbers so people could go thru the line - well, our table was LAST and most of the side dishes were all gone - all the desserts were gone -
but - what amazed me - were the people that had loaded up two or more plates and put foil over them and in a bag while they ate their one plate - like they were never going to have another meal
at the end - the two that were the most guilty - the man had the NERVE to come to our table and the one next to it and dump the bowl of candy into his bag - and just smile at us and walk away -
Some people!!!! oh well - I just bit my tongue - as it is Easter Sunday!!!!!!
Needless to say - we are still kinda hungry!!
Goldie - I just answered your question, not even knowing that you asked...
and - no - I am not feeling better - had several bathroom trips while waiting for them to draw our table number!! :-)
Bono - I love all the pictures you posted today of the puppies.. as a scrapbooker and a MASSIVE picture taker - I would have LOVED to have pics of our animals when they were baby, babies!!! :-)
Goldie - doesn't look like Tiger is going to win today!! bummer
MEK- no, he won't, and neither will Stricker. But did you see the game he had today? Go Steve!
Bono, LMAO!! I just read today's blog and your area 51 comment to me. Deviled eggs, deviled eggs!! The thought of "undeveloped" eggs makes me squeamisH LOL!!
I have to turn off my xm radio and go back and listen to Tina's music. Be right back.
No, Goldie - we were at my mom's clubhouse waiting to eat NOTHING!!
Mr. MEK was not real thrilled - but what are you going to do!!
Bummer, the Johnny Mathis song won't load! Mr Mary and I went to hear him sing a couple months ago at the Indian Casino. He sounded good as ever and looked wonderful!
Poor Mr. Mek and Poor MEK.
First it was a potluck- then nothing to eat. Bummer....
But your halo is giving off a nice gleam. :)
Mary - I think it takes just a minute to load up - so try again!!
Goldie - :-)
MEK, My SIL was always carrying a few plastic baggies to stuff food in her purse at functions. She could well afford to buy anything she wanted. I think it was just something from childhood and the need to survive. Sadly she passed that on to me LOL! When we go to buffets in Vegas, Mr Mary always wants me to put in a donut and a banana for his earl rise to gamble breakfast! Well, I'm not going to ruin a perfectly good Coach purse LOL!!
Mary - I sure don't mind people taking extra - they just need to WAIT until EVERYONE has had a chance to go thru the line ONCE - at a potluck - when a dish is gone,it's gone - at a buffet - the food is endless!!! I do know the difference... and at a buffet - I have been known to take a little extra -
MEK, The site said "sorry, not able to make connection"
Mary - sorry - I just tried it again and it worked fine for me..
Yay, It went through this time! I reminded me of my high school choir days. Nothing moves me more than music. I remember attending my ex MIL's funeral. When the youth choir started to sing Amazing Grace, I lost it big time. I think everyone was thinking, "man, she's really taking it hard" . We weren't the best of friends, but I always treated her with respect because of my sons. I visited her in the nursing home before she died and sang to her. I hope some one does the same for me some day ( not too soon lol)
Joey
I love Texas Roadhouse. They make an awesome steak and I love the dinner rolls and creamy butter.
Mek
that is a real shame about that pot luck dinner. Glutiny. Joey did I spell that correctly?!
VIG
glad to hear that you made the most of your day. Last year on Valentine's Day I spent it on the road alone to see a surgeon in another city. The surgeon spent 10 seconds with me after my long road trip which left me in tears. I wasn't expecting negative news and I should have never traveled alone to hear it. Then on top of it I was hungry and had to dine alone on Valentine's Day in a city where I knew no one. It was a lonely and depressing day. Ugh!
DonnaJean
if I hear from Sophie then I'll ask her to get in touch with you. If you hear from her then tell her that I miss her very much and to get in touch with me.
Good night ladies. I need to go crawl into bed and curl up with the food network. I see the Mek tribe is on the travel channel- that intrigues me....
Nighty night, sleep tight all. Happy Easter, bunny day or just plain old Sunday- whatever the day is to you!
After a sad day of not being allowed to see my mom I had a fun time with my children and grandchildren at a restaurant for Easter Dinner. As soon as we were all over the fact that things were different this year we settled in and enjoyed ourselves. It was a first for a lot of things and and the differences were noticed by the grandchildren. "What no Easter Egg hunt this year?" What Happened to the Easter Bunny? The only one who didn't notice was Naomi as it was her first Easter. Anyway we had fun. I took pictures and I will put a few up. I will see Mom on Tuesday. Thanks for all the supporting messages this morning. They sure helped.
I hope everyone has a great week!!
I know I will, because I am on spring break. ;)
Goodnight Goldie
Tinkatia~ Sending warm {{hugs}} your way. I hope tomorrow is better for you.
Iteach~ I went to your myspace and all of a sudden I have spring fever!! All that was missing was "Play Ball"!! I'll have to hunt for my Detroit Tigers.Do I have to delete my current page before copying another, I forget.
It sounds like everyone had a Happy Easter.
Have to laugh at Mo. buying 12 cadburry eggs and feeling guilty so gave two (2) away. lol
Birdee has her new, soon to be warmed, throne....enjoy!
Mek and Mr. Mek left their dinner hungry. Actually I though the fellow who came over to your table and dumped all your candy in his bag is kinda funny though.
I enjoyed hearing about everyones day. Mine was very enjoyable. My youngest granddaughter (one next month) can still say Nana, Nana.
We all ate too much and at this point my overstuffed picture would make a very good 'piggy' avatar for Maureen.
Finishing my packing for my trip to Rockport next week. I'm really looking forward to the rest and doing a little fishing. We're leaving around 1:00 tomorrow and will be back Monday the 31st.
It's been a beautiful day here and I'm so grateful for my family and my Owl friends.
Special ((hugs)) to you, Tink. I'm glad you were able to celebrate with your family.
Ronniegrl! I didn't know Mermaids went fishing!
Where is Rockport?
We had a great dinner here. My son brought their new puppy, a miniature dachshund. She was the entertainment of the day.I couldn't talk my Grand daughter into leaving her here. LOL!
"Why don't you let me bite you, you darling boy" LOL I'm watching a Joan Crawford movie.
Hi Mary,
Mermaids get hungry too...lol
Hope your day was special, sounds like it.
Rockport is between here (Houston) and Mexico, on the Gulf. We had a summer home down there for many years on the Isle of Key Allegro. Several of my family members still do, and so does one of my best friends. I wish I could live there year round, but it's too far from my children.
Fishing has always been my favorite pleasure since i was a little girl.
Ronniegrl~ It sounds like a bit of heaven. Enjoy!
I'll be thinking of you while our snow s-lo-w-l-y melts LOL!
That's sweet of you Mary. You're warm sunshine is coming very soon.
Rockport is a little piece of Heaven to me. Years ago, we lost our boat that was at the marina, when a hurricane came through. The house didn't have too much damage, but the insurance company was so good with us and replaced everything. I do love it there, and wether I'm fishing, or not, It's one of my favorite places to be.
Three years ago I had a very serious head and neck injury and this will be the first time for me to try out my sea-legs on a boat. If I could never ride in a boat again, I would be so hurt, but still enjoy the water.
Where did everyone go. It's not like I have B.O. or something. I promise, I only smell like chocolate today.
Well, maybe a little like baby spit-up too.
I hope all of our Owls had a lovely day!
I am getting ready to go turn in and watch TV. I have to be up at 4:00am. I am attending seminars all day tomorrow for the foodbank through Food life line in Seattle. Don't know what time I will be back tomorrow. So I may not be on the blog!
Just want to say a special thanks to Tina again for her wonderful blog. The music was fantastic!
Sweet Dreams everyone!
I'm off to take a shower...Good night everyone.

Jennifer~ I'm so glad you have Katie this year~ The only time I've been to the Saturday Vigil is when Mr. Tina became Catholic...otherwise...I avoid that mass like the plague! This year my youngest played the trumpet at the noon mass....I thought he was playing with a group of other kids...yikes....it was just him and the organist....I should have made him practice more! :)~

Ronnie, I hope all goes well with you.
I love the water too. One of my most memorable moments was sitting on the beach in San Diego watching the Sun set with my son who was at Camp Pendleton. Another good memory was watching the sun set in Hawaii. I guess I'm a "sun setting" kind of a gal LOL!!
I'm off to bed. I got up way to early (for me) today.

Tina! Dam, you always seem to know when I am leaving! I am going to get a complex! LOL!!
Nighters!!
"Hoppy" Easter HOoters!!!
TINA - You again wrote a fabulous blog!!! And what a great rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus - I luv it!!!
It really brought back a lot of great memories for me today. My Mom was the best!!! We grew up doing the Easter Egg hunt - she hid the eggs the night before. We hunted for our eggs before we went to church (usually sunrise service) in our Sunday best!!! I especially remember the year that my Mom (probably around 1974?) proudly made my brothers and my Dad matching leisure suits!!! Oh, and the joy of not only a new Easter hat, but also gloves!!! My kids aren't a big fan of hard boiled eggs, so I have continued with my husbands family's tradition of hiding Easter baskets. Even tho they are getting older, I think they would be dissappointed if I didn't do it. I did the requisite kite, puzzle, activity book, and assorted treats!!! I know it's not much - but it's fun!!! We went to the Easter Vigil service last night (my son Tim ushered and my daughter Sam acolyted). What a beautiful service. We started out in the gathering area - everyone lit a candle and processed into the sanctuary. I had to work this morning - so we went to dinner at Paul's parents after I got done with work. Ham, au gratin potatoes, cole slaw, and asparagus!!! YUM!!! I think I'm still full. I hope everyone had a peaceful holiday!!!
MEK - I just got done watching SOM again!!! Oh, and I just discovered that I can yodel my name!!!
HODI-LAY......HODI-LAY.....HODI-LAY-HE-WHO?!!?
Ok.....enough entertaining myself.
ZONA - I have a customer that was born in Russia - I'll ask if he has a recipe for the bread!!!
TINA - Are you done making supper yet?!!? Good grief.....I'm sure the kids are starving by now!!! And I'm sure that your son did great!!!
Good Night, everyone!!
I can't stay awake for the rest of my movie - but VIG and HODI gave me a spoiler!! LOL
:-)
Tina - thanks again for the blog..
I only had ONE Russell Stovers Vanilla Cream egg today - I WILL be at Walgreen's tomorrow!!!
I hope everyone has an excellent Monday!!!

Goodnight Mek~
Welcome home, Jodi.....somehow I sense a QOTD in your future!
Once again, it's been a lovely day in Owlville.
I finally got around to creating a lengthy playlist on MySpace today. For those of us feeling a bit down over the 5 chocolate pounds we may have gained today, feel free to stop by and listen to "Big Girls, You Are Beautiful" by Mika. It'll perk you right back up! 8=D~
This bon'obunny has an early morning planned, so it's goodnight for me. Whether it's back to work with an egg-salad sandwich or relaxing on Spring Break, have a terrific Monday all!
Good night MEK & BON*BON!!!

Now back you our regularly scheduled programing~
Hi Ho's. Just got home from my Son's. We had a very quiet day.
Tina, loved the blog and the music. That song always brings tears, but good ones.
Mo: Congrats on #1.
Jennifer: Our Catholic Church has also had a Seder the past few years and I find it very interesting. The Rabbi and his wife conduct (if that's the right term) the Seder along with the Deacon from our Church.
LynnD: Bless you for all the volunteer work you do, and even on Easter. I applaud your State for allowing that kind of fund raising activity. I wish CA would allow that. Maybe I should talk to Arnold about it.
Ronnie: Picking the wild flowers for the nest for the Easter eggs is a great idea. And I bet it looks pretty too.
Carol: My parents opened an Italian Restaurant when I was a senior in High school. My Mom would make some of the traditional Holiday dishes at Christmas and Easter and customers would beg her to make them at other times but she never did. We had the sweet Easter bread too, and she also made Italian cheesecake at Easter. She also made a bread that was like a braid with a hard boiled egg on the top but I don't remember what it was called.
MEK: Sorry you didn't get enough to eat at the pot luck. Good luck ar Walgreen's tomorrow.
As a child, I never hunted for eggs. My Mom made Easter baskets for us until we reached 12 and then she gave us a chocolate egg that was decorated with a lot of sugar stuff and also had our name on it. We got a chocolate egg every Easter until she died in 1999. For my children, my Hubby would hide the eggs in the house and the kids would hunt them before church. He always hid a few in the same place and he always kept track of how many were hidden vs how many were found. The baskets were at their place at the table.
A BIG shout out to all the other Owls. I hope you all had a very good day, whatever you were doing.
I just can't believe I did it again....I've washed two.....TWO...loads of water and I'm not even done with the laundry yet! It's going to be a long night~
TINA - lol @ washing the water again......what is with the water in Utah to make it so unclean?!!?
I just got up to make my hubby's lunch. I hope everyone has a great Monday!!!
hello?
I need at nap...
WANT - Sorry I missed you!!! Did you have a good Easter?
Well HOoters it's official - we now have broken the 100 inch mark - 100.1 inches of snow for the season, to be exact!!!
Ah Jodi, you're wish came true.
