by zonababy
Music. It has the power to enhance a mood or destroy it. It can make you happy, or it can leave you in tears. At times it can stir up the best memories, or revisit the worst. After just a few notes of an old song, I can remember lyrics I haven't thought of in years. When I'm alone, one of my favorite things to do, is to change the whole atmosphere of the house by turning on the stereo as loud as I want to.
My tastes in music are diverse. They vary and change as often as my mood does. I love to listen to Frank Sinatra. But I also like Merle Haggard. I can rock with the Rolling Stones or swing with Ella Fitzgerald.
I've been to many memorable concerts, Billy Joel, Waylon Jennings, David Bowie. My all time favorite though, was seeing Elton John in 1975.
What are some of your favorite songs? Favorite concert memories? Is there a genre of music you have always loved? Music..how does it fit into your world??

Now this has made my morning! Yeah!
None of my kids wanted to get dress or eat this morning. Ughh.
Our local radio station use to pick one person a week and play their favorite top ten songs.
I was picked one week and they played my ten songs.
It has been a while so I will try to think about them tonight and share them with you guys.
I had so much fun picking my favorite ten songs and the radio DJs made fun of them. :) I was laughing with them.
THIRD!!!
LOL - WOW, Zona has written another blog!!
YOU GO GIRL!!!
Off to read !!
Good Morning Hooters!!!
How is Everyone today?
Well, I was suppose to babysit this morning. told my friend to give me a early wakeup call, so I could have a chance to run the vacuum. Woke up at 8, no call, had a whopping headache. Had to go potty, took the phone with me..sure enough, it rang. Was my friend calling to cancel!! She had bad headache too. I love my friend
very much...but this happens ALOT!!! I so wanted to sleep longer today!!
Ok!! That's off my chest..on to a new day!
Well, I love all kind of music.
I asked jigglin this the other day..Has Anyone heard Minnie Drivers' music? It's really good. Kind of mellow. If you haven't..I have two of her song's on my play list. Have a listen. I wish they had more of her to put up..but only three to choose from.
I go from oldies on up.
Zona!! Good job on your topic's. One of these day's my brain will give me something to blog about! LOL
Thanks to Everyone for the nice/funny comment's you send me. I'm so behind in EVERYTHING!!
Damn housework and repairs/remodeling.
Ok, off to try and catch up on your great post's from previous day..or day's, I should say.
Love you all!
xoxoxox
Good Morning, Iteach, congrats on FIRST!!!
Cpgem - thank you for continuing to keep up this blog - you really have NO idea how much I enjoy this place!! :-)
Zona - GREAT BLOG!!!
I listen to SO many different types of music - if you picked up my IPod - I think many would be shocked.. there is a ALOT of country, but a little bit of EVERYTHING!!
I am a country music girl at heart!! When I craft, I love to listen to Stevie Nicks!! Weird, I think, but she gets my creative juices flowing!! :-)
I've gotta get last minute things done, before I'm ON THE ROAD AGAIN - (Willie Nelson - at his age, he still puts on THE best concerts!!!) I will check in tonight!!!
Ya'll behave!! LOL
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!! :-)
Good Morning, Birdee -
Yes, I have heard her sing- VERY good!! Sorry you have a headache - take care of yourself!!
Good morning!
I love all kinds of music, almost everything except (C)rap. C&W isn't a top favorite either, but I do love Willie Nelson and a few others.
My first concert was Elton John in 1975 (Zona, where did you see him?) at the Cow Palace in SF. What a fabulous entertainer!
I'm a huge Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac fan and have been to many concerts. About 4 years ago, my best friend and I splurged and spent over $300, and got 2nd row seats in the pit. But it was sooo worth it.
There are many musicians in the bay area. I remember Huey Lewis (he was in a band called Clover back then) played at one of our high school dances.
I'd still go to see Willie Nelson, I've seen him in concert probably 5 times. He is AWESOME!
Oh man, I could just go on and on, thanx Zona for posting!
I will have to post again later when I get home from work!
Congrats iteach on first!! :)
Safe travels MEK!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JODI!
Have a great day!
Good Morning Feathered Friends!
ITEACH...hoot hoot!! 1st! Way to go!
MEK...safe travels and have fun! Don't get a tummy ache from all the "car food" you bought!
HODI...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ZONA...what a great topic! I am so glad you blogged again...and you do it so very well! YAY to you!
I am still a Rock and Roll girl! I am more of a fan of the 70's and 80's rock, but there is some current music that I like, too. In the 70's I worked for a record distributor, so I had everything...some even before it was released. That was in the days of vinyl and cassette tapes!!
I was a HUGE Styx fan, saw them 3 or 4 times, even got to go backstage once and meet them! I also saw Billy Joel, Pat Benetar, the Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, Phil Collins...
I think my two favorite concerts were Billy Joel and Elton John together a couple of years ago and in 1997 at the Concert for the Rock and ROll Hall of Fame at the old Brown's stadium. Everyone was there and the concert went on until 2 am! It was incredible!
I think my last concert was...Clay Aiken! Yep, I admit it!!
Hi to BIRDEEEEEE! Hope your headache goes away soon!
Hi to EBJ! How's Paula doing? I loved Huey Lewis and the News! Did you see the video that Jimmy Kimmel did with Ben Afleck? Huey was in that!
CAROL...is your favorite music the sound of bacon sizzling?? LOL
See ya all again in a bit.
Good Morning!!!
Happy Birthday to Hodi!!!!
Iteach: 1st!!! Yahoo for you!
Good Morning MEK, Birdee, and EBJ!
I love music! Tho I have a hard time remembering who sang what! LOL
When I want to really walk and workout Bonnie Raitt gets me going!
I love Fleetwood Mac! Great for doing housework to!
I am a lyrics person. If the lyrics grab me then I fall in love with the song. Lyrics are poetry set to music for me.
Really I have eclectic taste in music like you Zona!
But I really like Jazz and R&B!
I used to really hate Country but even that in the last few years has grown on me.
About the only thing I don't like is rap. I just can't get into it.
First concert for me was Elton John in the seventies! It was fantastic and boy I could tell some stories like my friend that went with us and hid her pot in her bra. Her thought process was that they would not search her there. Actually no one would search her as she was 6 feet tall and had such large boobies she could have hid a 6 pack and no one would have noticed! LMAO
Fun topic Zona!
Hey Mo good morning to you! Clay Aikennnnn really??????I may have to take a long look at our friendship based on that!! LMAO
LYNN...at least I am brave enough to admit it!! He really put on a good show! It was weird tho, a concert with 99% of the audience older women! And they converted all the men's rooms into ladie's rooms, except for one! There was this guy out in the smoking area with me and I asked him why he was at a Clay concert...he replied he had to...he worked there! But he was actually enjoying it!
But it was a good concert...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
Mo LMAO the only man was there because he had to be, he worked there!
ROFLMAO at brave enough to admit it!!!
Love ya!
Iteach--- Congrats on # 1 ...
Zona... I think MEK and Whabby dragged you out of your shell...yea!!!!
I love this post!!!!
I love music..
Birdee... Go back to bed... nurse that headache. Will have to go to your my space and listen to Minnie
MEK... Wish I was meeting you there!!!!
EBJ....Elton fan...
LynnD ...Elton Also...Loved him in high school...
Maureen...I am a 70's girl...and i love Clay Aiken.. I have his Christmas CD... It is fabulous
All concert goers..
I have been to many concerts... I have seen The Rolling stones Twice.. ZZTopp twice...
i think my all time favorite one was when my best friend won FRONT ROW to Miss Tina Turner!!! it was in 2000.... and she was wonderful... Lionel Richie opened up for her... I snuck in a disposible camera... It was so much fun.. She saved Proud mary for the encore... She was after all 60 when I saw her... you would have never known...
have to work for a bit...
I'll be back...
Hey, I saw New Kids On The Block twice in concert.
Aren't you impressed!!!
Wow, some great concert memories flying around!
My first concert was T. Rex of Bang-A-Gong fame when I was a tween. My Dad dropped us off and picked us up. If he knew about all the pot smoking that went on in there, he woulda freaked!
My favs have to be Prince and Billy Idol as we had front row. Both were awesome shows. But then so were Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Rod Stewert and Cyndi Lauper. Phil Collins not so much, he was by himself and played a lot of very slow songs. We also went to see Pat Benitar and she played NONE of her hits, she was into jazz at the time, which no one knew. The music was good, but not what people came for and she got boo'd.
I would love to see Madonna, but tickets were 300.00 for decent seats. Even the nose bleeds were 90.00
Happy Birthday Jodi!
ITEACH...phew, now I feel vindicated about seeing Clay! NKotB!! Who was your favorite kid?
IBB...you're right about Tina...she is amazing. ;)~ Tina Turner, too!!! And yes, the Clay Christmas CD is incredible. I bought it, too...and I am Jewish! I also bought the Daughtry CD, so you can see my tastes vary!
Where are our MIA owls like RONNIE, NOWMERCY and SHIRLEY? Miss your posts. Hoping you are ok
Mo- I also have the daughtry CD... I bought it the first day it came out... I was actually with MEK.. And she will find it for you...no matter what...
My First concert was Aerosmith in 1976...It was the "Dream On" tour...They were sooooo drunk they forgot the words to "Dream On"...It ruined me for concerts for a while...
I also got see (with MEK) The boss... Bruce Springsteen... that was a really good concert...
And if anyone were to look at my CD's theywould say I was a very mixed up person who doesn't know what she likes... but I am different...
Iteach: New Kids LMAO I am very impressed Twice really???
Hi Scirish and IBB!!!
Mo you have mail at myspace!
Here is another one to impress you.
I saw Neil Diamond twice!
IBB...Once when I was cutting thru the Holiday Inn that was on campus to get to class, I ran into...literally...Steven Tyler! They were doing a concert in town that night! He was pretty cool. It was morning so he was sober at the time!!
SCIRISH...good morning! When I saw Phil it was after he had gone solo, but the concert was with Him and Genesis. It was amazing. It was at Dodger Stadium in L.A and it rocked! And the bestest part was that it was free! My boss had extra tickets and he gave them to us!
Hi..Gosh, I feel like I have been gone forever! I really enjoy reading all the topics and comments each day. I am at my daughters today with the second grandchild very sick but sleeping. My daughter has been off work for a week so trying to be back-up this week.
ZONA: I am so impressed that you are a blog writing person now. I thought I would beat you but now you are two ahead of me.
I want to thanks all of you for the messages here and on myspace this last week. It makes me feel so good to have such good friends. It has been a long week.
Music: I love so many kinds but especially Country and old time music. I have been to many George Strait, Toby Keith and Tim McGraw concerts. I think the most person's concerts over the many years was either Neil Diamond or John Denver. I favorite was last year for my 60th to see Celine..it was wonderful.
Happy Birthday JODI and have a fun day and week. MEK: Safe travels
ITEACH...my friends were all going to see Neil Diamond. I had no inclination to go, but they talked me into it. And it was FANTASTIC! He was awesome. And I had hated the song Forever In Bluejeans, but he did it 4 times! And I LOVED IT! All 4 times!!!
I remember going to the Simon and Garfunkel reunion tour concert. They both kept forgetting the lyrics. It was kinda pathetic!!
Great blog, Zona! Boy, you're getting into this blogging--hooray!
Happy Birthday, Jodi!
I like lots of different music, too, but I don't enjoy rap or jazz. I am a huge Eagles fan and Mr. Sandie and I are going to see them in Atlanta in May. I'm kind of bummed though because he doesn't enjoy them like I do so I'm not sure he'll be so fun. :(
When I was a teen/early twenties, all we did was go to concerts! I've seen The Eagles (several times), Heart, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, Elvis, John Denver, Neil Diamond (several times), Kris Kristofferson, Frankie Vallie, Tony Orlando, The Monkees, Air Supply, Gary Pucket, and others I can't think of right now.
I'm off to the gym with my hubby. Did I tell you all he retired from the government two weeks ago? He's still working from home--he's also a financial planner. It's quite strange having him here . . . maybe I should write a blog about that. He can be fun and get on my nerves all in one hour! LOL
Mo~I loved him when he was with Genisis! We didn't pay attention when we bought the tickets and didn't realize he was by himself. It was good...just too many very slow songs..My sig other fell asleep! :(
Iteach: I love Neil Diamond!
I also saw Kiss!
Good Morning Owls!
Jodi: Happy Birthday!
Zona: When I read the title of your blog, my heart did a happy dance! :) Music is such a passion of mine! Thank you for the fun topic!
My life is a soundtrack, because I have so many memories linked to music. Every major event in my life has some song associated with it, and when I hear that song, I feel the same emotions all over again. There is no better therapy than the perfect song when I need to shed tears, vent frustrations, find strength and courage, or just celebrate life! :)
At the top of my list of favorites is Michael Ball. If I was Cinderella, I would want him to be my Prince Charming! Besides being the best baritone of his generation, he has the most adorable dimples and beautiful smile. :)
I fell in love with IL Divo when I first heard them perform on American Idol Gives Back. After they finished singing, I headed straight for my computer and ordered all of their CD's and DVD's on Amazon.com. :) Finding out Simon Cowell created the group has given me more respect for his opinions of vocal talent.
These are just a couple of my favorites. I could stay here all day talking about music, because there are so many genres I love! :) Unfortunately, I have to get back to work now.
Waving Hi to everyone!
Happy American Idol Tuesday! :)
Congrats on 1st today iteach!
Nice QOTD just-lin!
Thanks for the blog today zona!
Music. Hmmmm.....JOURNEY F*O*R*E*V*E*R!!!!!!!!!!!
LMAO!!!
Anyway....I love all kinda of music, but honestly, if I'm not in the mood it drives me nuts. Is anyone else like that? When I want to listen to it, I love it. But sometimes it just gets on my last nerve. Rap=Crap. Hate it. But I like to listen to Fergie sometimes, and she can get in rapping. I love old Salt & Pepper songs because they can be catchy. And Emenem (sp) had that one really good award winning album that is really quite powerful if you listen to the lyrics. Not that I went out and bought the damn thing, I've just heard some of it on the radio because hubby can't go anywhere without it on. I think that is where it starts to just drive me nuts. But Journey is my fav. I have seen them more times than I can count. And none of the shows was with Steve Perry. Bummer. The last time we had the opportunity to see Journey with Steve Perry was the day after we got married. I thought going on a honeymoon was more important. What the hell was I thinking??? So lets see if I can list all of my concerts. I will start with the first one.....
Andy Gibb
Styx
Sheena Easten
(ok now I will just name then)
Journey (10+)
Deff Lepperd (3)
Elton John (2)
Cher
Simon & Garfunkle
Match Box 20 92)
Bon Jovi
Britney Spears (yes w/daughter)(2)
KC and the Sunshine Band
Maroon 5
No Doubt
Garbage
Peter Frampton
Air Supply
Shania Twain
Dixie Chicks
Michelle Branch
Neal Diamond (2)
Andre Reiu
Doc Severenson
Well now I seem to be drawing a blank. There were many numerous opeing acts that I can't remember, or can't remember the artists name. Such as the chick who sang "Where have all the cowboys gone" She sang barefoot. I at least remember that!
30 hehehe
Howdy OWLS!!
ITEACH!! WTG #1 Congrats!!!
ZONA fantastic blog!!
Thank you.
I love all music, with the exception of head banger junk.
I can't pick a fav, because the list is too long.
ITEACH, you were a Kiss fan? I'm addicted to his show.LOL.They have me in stitches laughing.
I think my 2 fav concerts were Roy Orbison and Huey Lewis n the News.
I didn't go to many concerts because I use to hang out at a place called LULU's. It was known for the longest bar, and brought in big name entertainers.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JODI!
SAFE TRAVELS MEK!
paula cole!
First concert was Steely Dan opening for The Guess Who.
Great blof Zona. As you can see from recent pics on my myspace page, I do love music.

Hi everyone- my job is once again interferring with my social life, so just making a quick fly by. Love the topic Zona- great job again on blogging.
Congrats to iteach on #1
Will come back and post later. Hope you all have a good day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JODI!!
yeah I can spell AND complete all my sentences can't I? lol
oops...I forgot the "Barb in wa"
Scroll up...Paula Cole
ZonaBaby Woo hoo!! Look at you, just writing away! Great blog and fun topic for today.
iteach Congrats on being the early bird today.
Andrea Bocelli singing "Time to Say Goodby" absolutely, positively breaks my heart.
What I love to have blasting is good old rock and roll from the 60's through the 80's.
The first concert I ever saw was Ray Charles in the 60's. The most recent was The Rolling Stones and that was a few years ago now. I have also seen Neil Diamond, John Denver, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow, Mandy Patinkin, and others. My mind is going blank at the moment, probably due to all the noise as they demolish my deck. I'm having a new one built.
K-GIRL...I saw the Guess Who, too! And after the concert we waited by the stage door and Burton Cummings came out and kissed me!
I forgot, at the same venue I saw the Jackson 5! And Randy made an appearance, too! No Janet, tho!
How come Melissa wasn't in your top 5?
Turtle Oh, what I wouldn't give to see Eric Clapton!! I am so jealous! I'm reading his autobiography now. Love Eric Clapton!
ooooopsie.....i have not seen match box 20 92 times! that was suppose to be (2)
Jodi the Hodi HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Paula Cole! That's her!!! LOL!
Thanks guys!
Goldie....I know. I should have picked Steve Perry!
The other are timeless, have earned their Music crowns. In comparison Melissa is a young artist IMHO. Doesn't mean I don't love her music and that she doesn't put on one hell of a show (she played for 3 hours and 20 minutes the other night).
50?
50???
i marched... to the beat of my own drummer for 50!
MEK would be so proud!
k-girl~3hrs and 20 mins??? wooooohoo
that musta been some concert!
Music! What a great topic Zonababy.
My first concert that I went to was in Germany. It was a 24 hour outdoor enormous event. The main band was Alice Cooper with Status Quo, Thin Lizzy and a pile more. I was 16 so that explains that! Later on in life I worked with a band called Sudden Impact. I did their promo packs. For those of you who were General Hospital fans and loved Luke & Laura well Genie Francis and her husband came on stage at Bay Fest after we won battle of the bands and introduced Sudden Impact. I was thrilled. The guys in the band could care less. Oh well.
I have seen many bands at concerts including Joan Jett, Bocifus ( I can't think of his real name but he was named after his father, C&W star), the Bad To The Bone, Goerge Thorougood, and the All Stars Band which is made up of 4 rock singers from 70's bands including Mike Pinera and lead singer for Inna Godda DiVidda and Green Eyed Lady. etc. Right now I can't even think of them all but I've been to 20 concerts around the state.
I had just told Birdie that many of my favorite songs are on her profile. I love the oldies but goodies. I like a lot of music except rap. I'm not too fond of rap and those dreadful lyrics that are in most of that type of music.
scirish:
yep, just her and her band. No opening act either.
She did a story telling thing....kinda like her life by song. I have seen her probably 15 times and this one was quite different, but she still can rock!
My very first concert was the Statler Brothers at the county fair.
Can't beat an old fashion County Fair.
BIRDEE - (((HUGS))) to you - take care of yourself and your headache.
ZONA - Great blog!!! And what a great surprise!!! I love music!!! It is really one of the things that can move me. I think my first concert was Glenn Campbell back in about 1971? I went with my Aunts - they took me because I had a huge crush on him at the age of 5!!! Some of my favorite concerts have been:
Rush
Duran Duran (front row baby!!)
Flock of Seagulls
The Cars
The Nylons
The Judds (their farewell tour)
Garth Brooks (I saw him @ a county fair just as his first record was being released - and also in the front row!!!)
Allen Jackson
Trans Siberian Orchestra
But seriously, the best show I have ever seen is Cheap Trick in a smaller club in Madison, WI - about 1986? They started in this area (I think they are from Rockford, IL) and they totally rocked the house!!!
Some of my favorite things to listen to are soundtracks - especially the Harry Potter and Star Wars soundtracks. John Williams is the composer for both and his work is amazing. Talk about letting the music take you away......to a world far, far away. LOL!! I know....I'm a geek!!!
Onto my second post - I know the last one was getting rather lengthy!!!
CAROL - Thanks for the birthday song!! What a great surprise from you and all the Owlettes!!!
Thanks for the birthday shout-outs from:

Zona: Yay another blog. Great job. You are really getting into this. Congrats! I love this topic.
Good afternoon Owls. I hope you are all having a good day.

MEK: On the road again! Safe travels.
Birdee: The first time I heard Minnie Driver sing was in the movie Phantom of the Opera. I was surprised at how good she is. I hope your headache goes away very soon.
EBJ: LOL @(c)rap
Mo: Clay Aiken? I never would have guessed. I have his Xmas CD too, love it.
Lynn D: LOL @ 6 pk in her bra

Are we maRCHING TO 69 AGAIN!!!!
k-girl~That sounds interesting..I saw Meatloaf do a storytelling concert once...like you said it was quite different...but still fun! I still can't get over her performing that long...Bon Jovi was just up here and the paper said he performed for 2 hours and 20 min and I thought that was long! You certainly got your money's worth!
JUST_LIN.... This is for you!!!!
JUST_LIN.... This is for you!!!!
JUST_LIN.... This is for you!!!!
I was about 12 years old when I was invited to go to a "show" (didn't call them concerts back then) at Ciro's Restaurant in Hollywood. Sammy Davis, Jr. (before he was really famous) was appearing with his father and two uncles and they were having a performance for a small select group of people and I was lucky enough to get invited by one of the select. I didn't appreciate it until I was much older, but he danced and sang his heart out and the show was great.
I met my Hubby at a Jimmy Clanton concert. Probably no one here knows who he is, but he was basically a one hit wonder (Just a Dream) in the 60's.
I have also seen:
Bette Midler
Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
Tammy Wynette & George Jones (they were still married)
The Beach Boys
Bon Jovi
Journey
Sha Na Na
Andy Williams
Johnny Cash
I like almost all kinds of music including some classical, but I hate (c)rap and heavy metal stuff. My most recent favorites are Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli.
Sacbarb~OMG how awesomely cool! I just finished reading a biography about Sammy and his "uncles"! I would have loved to see that
Forgot to say Happy Birthday Jodi. I hope you have a fun day and night planned.
Jodi~ H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y!!!
Zona~ I can't believe you wrote another blog!!! ;) I'm so glad you did and I LOVE MUSIC!! The other day, this Cher song came on the the radio....i loved the music and was blasting it and called a friend to share it....she wasn't home....so I let it play on her machine~ Well I should have paid attention to the words!!! As I sat there it dawned on me....yikes...I hope she doesn't listen to the words....cuz it's just the music that I wanted her to hear!! WELL SHE LOOKED UP THE WORDS and I had a lot of splainin' to do!!!! :)~ All is well now~ :)~
I Love Love Love all types of music! My very first concert was Shaun Cassidy! Oh that was fun! I've also seen:
Ricky Nelson
John Denver
Hannah Montana (what was I thinking)
The Jonas Brothers (oh help me!)
Elton John/Billy Joel
Rick Springfield
Donna Summer
Beach Boys
Gloria Estefan
Mo~ you are a freaking hoot! :)~
iteach~ congrats on #1~ I love all the concerts you've been to~
MEK~ safe travels~
Well not many will like my list... since we seem to not like heavy stuff... but here it is...
1st Aerosmith...
ZZTopp (2)
Rolling Stones (2)
Heart
George Throughgood (2)
Pat Travers.. ( boom boom Out go the lights)
Tina Turner
Cher
Rod Stewart
Poison
Jethro Tull
Judas Priest
Van Halen
Bruce Springsteen
KIX
Molly Hatchet
Blackfoot
Foghat
And last but not least...
Stevie Ray Vaughn... First time I saw him was a little hole in the wall right here in Front Royal... He was on his way to New York for his record deal.. but didn't have enough money for the trip.. so he would play little venues... there was only about 20 of us there... we got to party with him... it was really cool... then when he hit it big we went and saw him like 3 times... he was actually playing the day I got married... I wanted to stop at the concert on our way to our honeymoon... but hubby wasn't having any of that...it was on the way!!! I didn't understand that...
75?
Oh my Gosh... I forgot
The Grateful Dead...
Hey there K-grl...
Oh and the weird thing about the
Grateful Dead show...
Bruce Hornsby and the Range opened up for them..
My very very firt concert was at Milwaukee's SummerFest and it was Jose Feliciano!
IBB...my brother saw Stevie Ray Vaughn and after the concert he was killed when his plane crashed. My SIL got a huge tattoo in his honor.
ok what was the weirdest pairing at a concert? Like what opening act just didn't go with the headliner?
Wasn't a plane crash Mo was a helicopter. I was at that show it was in Wisconsin, I forget the name of the place but it's a ski resort in the winter time.......ok HODI help me out on this one....was it Alpine Valley or something like that?

Hi Everyone! I am getting such a kick out of reading the posts! Such memories. I have a hundred songs going through my head right now!
JODI: Happy Happy Birthday! SWAK! Don't forget to blow real hard to get those candles out! ;)
TINA: Your boppin' Disco Night inspired this blog..I hope you know that. I finally got the nerve to write it. Thank you!
ITEACH: Congrats on being Number One on todays Owl Charts! My sister use to enter every radio contest on KRUX in Phx...and she won A LOT of them!
MEK: I saw Willie Nelson twice. Once with Kris Kristofferson..ol' Kris was pretty drunk, but man was he a cutie then. The other time was with Waylon Jennings. THAT was an awesome show. We had front row seats. Shooter had just been born, and Waylon took a gift I had brought right out of my hands. I was so thrilled! I hope you are motoring safely!
BIRDEE: I hope your headache is getting better. You better be taking it easy and resting. :) I haven't heard Minnie Driver, but will check her out on your page.
EBJ: Elton John was the first concert I ever saw. I was 16. It was his "Rock Of The Westies" Tour and he came to ASU. I screamed so much I couldn't talk the next day! I think I also got high up there in those seats..very thick smoke ya see. ;)
MO: How cool to get records early! I would have been in Heaven. Doesn't Billy Joel put on the best show? I saw him 4 times at ASU. Him and Elton John in the same show..oh that HAD to close to perfect!
LYNND: I like Jazz too. Especially Stan Getz. Ella Fitzgerald is one of my all time favorites. Her five octave range is amazing! AHA it was YOUR friend's stash I accidently inhaled!
Gonna break this up in case Foad monster loves me today..
K-GIRL...I think Alpine Valley could have been it.
The weirdest pairing was me at a Julio Iglesias concert!!
IBB~
Wow, you got to meet Stevie Ray Vaughn??? He's on my playlist as is George Thoughgood, ZZ Top and the Greatful dead. Have you ever listened to Kenny Wayne Shepard? He is an excellent Blues player..
kgirl- yes it was Alpine Valley!
I was a teenager in the 70's- I saw every rock concert possible. Pink Floyd and Blue Oyster Cult were the best ones I ever went to. also:
Deep Purple
Queen
Kiss
Cheap Trick
Foghat
Joe Cocker
Kenny Rodgers
Black Sabbith
Uriah Heep
Alice Cooper
Fleetwood Mac
Journey
Van Halen
Heart
Lee Greenwood
Ted Nugent
Boston
Chicago
Tommy James (after the Shondells)
Styxx
Trick pony
Bad company
Eagles
I have also been lucky enough to see Liza Minneli and Burt Bacharach.
oh, I am sure there was more I can't think of and some of those were multiples. My biggest regret was not seeing Led Zepplin in their heyday.
MO & TURTLE - Alpine Valley would be the correct answer!! It's somewhere down by Milwaukee - oh, that reminds me......I saw Power Station there!!
Some more birthday thank yous to:

H*A*P*P*Y ~ *\o/* ~ *B*IR*T*H*D*A*Y ~ *\o/* ~ *J*O*D*I ~ !
ZONA ~~ My favorite subject of all time!! I could go on for hours...but promise I won't. I think I've mentioned here before that my all-time favorite piece of music is Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic Orchestra version of 'Rhapsody in Blue'. Yet, my favorite concert ever was Prince's 'Purple Rain'.....eclectic doesn't begin to cover the spectrum of artists I admire. Love the before-my-time music of the Big Band/World War II era. Think Freddie Mercury was a genius, and vintage-Queen is still a favorite. VIG and I had quite a dialogue last night about k.d. lang. The version of 'Hallelujah' she has on her MySpace currently transports me to a whole other dimension. I rely on music daily to motivate or relax, inspire or escape. It's right up there with oxygen in my list of primal necessities.
I had to laugh as I read your comment about how lyrics you didn't even know you remembered come flooding back after a few notes of an old song. Lately, I've been listening to an AM station that plays late-50's to early 70's tunes, and am amazed that I can "Name That Tune" in two or three notes and all the words to songs I didn't even like are still taking up brain space!
May be back later with a concert list. Right now, I have to put on my Bond 'Shine' cd ----------the BEST EVER to get the circulation going for a spin class or frantic-speed housework.
Thanks everybody for sharing a Tuneful Tuesday ~~~~ Luv Ya All !
IBB: Ok..now I am officially jealous. You got to see the Rolling Stones? Twice? They were here, but the tickets sold out in a heartbeat, so I never have seen them live. I love the concert movie "Let's Spend The Night Together" though.
SCIRISH: Rod Stewart..another show I wish I could see.
DIANNE: I hope everything settles down for you soon. Make sure you take care of yourself!
SANDIE: I have always loved the Monkees. One of my guilty pleasures!
AMICUS: I love what you said, "My life is a soundtrack"
BARB/WA: Mr. Z loves Journey. I like the song "Seperate Ways"
LOVEY: Gene Simmons "Family Jewels"!! I never liked him until I watched the show. It is hysterical!
KGIRL: I saw your pictures, another inspiration to write this blog!
J/LIN: Rolling Stones too?? Grrrr. My mom saw Ray Charles when he first started. He was one of her favorite singers.
another break in case of Mr. Foad..
iteach....you're number one! Good on you!
Happy Birthday, Jodi! Hope it has been a fabuous day! And great marching...to your own drummer, I might add! wtg!!!
And Miss Zona....Auntie Nort is so proud of you, her buttons are just a'bursting! Two blogs in less than a week...you are on a roll! That is fantastic and what a fantastic topic!
I have been thinking alot about music lately....gotta keep it lively on my MS page. I have been going through a mental inventory of music and performers that I would love to find and put on my page...and it has made me think about the range of music I adore. I agree with EBJ....I love, love, love all types but [c]rap and CW leave me a little cold. Although I do love Mary Chapin Carpenter, but she is kind of folky....gotta love the folkies!!! My favourite thing in the summer is going to a couple of really good folk music festivals, which I try to do yearly! Delicious food, the most amazing place for people watching and hearing really diverse music from all over the world....yummy! It is where I first heard people like Ruthie Foster, Christine Lavin, Sweet Honey in The Rock, The Flirtations, Linda Tillery, Feist, B'Good Tanyas, Billy Bragg. Oh....love it,love it...and I can hardly wait until this summer.
Thank you Zona....you got me all musically fired up...I am on my way to put on some good music while i work away this afternoon!
JODI: Hope you are having a great birthday. Cheap Trick are one of my favorite bands to this day! congrats on 100!
SACBARB: Man, to see Sammy Davis Jr. with his Dad and Uncle...how cool was that? That's HISTORY, Baby! lucky you! :)
GOLDIE: Dang you have neen to some good concerts! And Liza Minneli too!
BON'O: Isn't it weird how your brain stores all those lyrics? I never thought I had enough room to hold them all. I heard a song the other night that I first heard as a kid, "Chick-A-Boom" and I remembered every word!
Thanks everyone for all the input. I am loving reading about everyone's favorite memories and songs!
VIG: I just love the song on your Myspace. You might want to ask someone how to add a music player it you want more songs!
bon'o...yes, our great conversation last night about KD Lang inspired me to buy her new CD this morning as I bought my soy chai at that bad place that rhymes with tarducks! Have you heard her new CD yet? So far I am loving it!!!!!!
zona....Thanks, kiddo...it is a good song, I agree. And to think it was in a movie about a donkey and an ogre! Good idea about the myspace music player....I will be checking that out!
VIG~~Yep, have the new one, but my favorite k d lang is still 'Hymns of the 49th Parallel' that has 'Hallelujah'.
Anybody have the compilation "Tribute to Joni Mitchell"? Bought it when it first came out and hated it. Now it's growing on me.
Guilty Pleasure: Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" cd. Hate her life, LOVE her voice.
Hey Gang!
Just checkin back real quick!
I have been thinking of music all day!
I have to say one of my all time favorites is Carole King her Tapestry album!
There is a song on it that I want sung at my memorial.
"Way Over Yonder" I love this song and the lyrics move me to tears everytime!
Also Does anyone remember the movie The Commitments! I have played the soundtrack tape to this so many times it is worn out! I wonder if it is on CD?? Hmmm I will have to check Amazon. There is a rendition of Mustang Sally that is fantastic!!
Ok back to work for me!
Hey Hodi Happy Birthday to you again!!!!!!!!!!
zonababy Great daily blog today, I love music, two words for me
"Michael Buble" Love him :O)
Great Job zona Thanks!

Bon O~ I like swing/big band also. but all my friends and sig other think I'm bonkers...nice to know I'm not alone.
Jodi
Happy Birthday to you, I hope your day was a happy one :O)
Maureen: I still think Clay Aiken should have won Season 2 of Idol. :) I love his Measure of a Man CD and his Christmas CD.
SacBarb: When I read Birdee's post, I had forgotten about Minnie Driver being in Phantom of the Opera. She was good. I didn't care for Gerard Butler as the Phantom, but Emmy Rossum was fantastic!
tinka
Sorry about your day yesterday, It must be very tough to see your mom as she is now. Please know you are never a "downer" we all have good days and down days, it is ok to share all your days here!
Keep your chin up! :O)
This is one of my favorite songs, and kinda sums up the power of music.
HOLD ON by TRIUMPH
Music holds the secret,
To know it can make you whole
It's not just a game of notes,
It's the sounds inside your soul
The magic of a melody
Runs through you like a stream
The notes that play flow through your head
Like a dream
Like a dream
Like a dream
I sing this song for the common man
For the people in despair
I bring my song into the world
And I sing it everywhere
The simple truth lies waiting here
For everyone to share
So hold on, and I will take you there
Hold on and I will take you there
The daily routine takes your soul,
Lost without a trace
It hold you down and turns you 'round
And puts you in your place
Another day, another dollar
Another pretty face
Another chance to lose yourself
In the endless race
CHORUS
Hold on, hold on to your dreams
Hold on, even though it seems
Everyone around you has their little schemes
Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams
Can't you feel the magic
Feel it everywhere
Can't you hear the music
There's something in the air
There's a celebration
Deep within a song
Celebrate this feeling,
You know it can't be wrong
CHORUS
Caught up in routine,
You got to break it
Time won't wait for us,
We got to make it
Fate gives you the chance
You've got to take it
Take it
Hold on
MO
I got your e-mail, I am going out to dinner tonite, I will touch base with you when I get home.
Thank You!
Shirley
Where the heck are you!
Your humor and meals are missed!
Are you lurking? :O)
ronniegirl
It seems you are missing as well!
Hope you are OK....
iteach
Congrats on first!
Loved your story, about the radio station, What were the songs? Or did you post them, I did not read all the comments...
I am not a concert goer, don't love crowds, I have been to four concerts in my life..
Billy Joel
Celine Dion
Cher
American Idol Season 5
I am hoping to see Michael Buble someday and I would love to see Celine Dion again, she is coming to NJ in September and the tickets are about $1000.00 each, I won't pay that, so I have to wait to see if the prices come down.
Hope all had great day, and I will check back later!
:O)
lovey
Almost forgot, Loved your owl picture and so glad I was able to post in on the main page of the blog. Thanks...
I am alone again. So funny!!!!
I just got an email from RONNIE...
Thanks for the email, I'm checking in. (you tickled me sounding just like my mother used to do).
Thank you for caring enough to ask about me.
We came down here to Galveston Saturday afternoon for me to have a much needed 'getaway'. I'm sitting on the porch watching the sun dance it's sparkle across the water as we speak. Early this morning I went out on the pier to wet a line thinking I wouldn't get a nibble (probably just drown some poor damn shrimp.lol) , but there was a good sized flounder hiding on the bottom. Yep, we had baked flounder, french fries and salad for lunch. My dear Mo, It just doesn't get any better than this.
Sincerely wish you were here to enjoy all this with us. Oh, I lost $11.00 last night playing poker, maybe it was the scotch, certainly not the skill. lol Yeah right! We have always played for keeps, but maybe I can get my money back tonight. At least it wasn't strip poker cuz I could clear a room in a split-second, if I lost. Nekkkid is good though, kinda frees-up any inhibitions one might have. lol
I miss those sweet Owls and we'll be going back home tomorrow, but if you want to share my where-abouts at the nest, please feel free to copy any of my note......Ha Ha Ha....when did I ever learn to write a Note? I only do novels. We'll catch-up on everything in a day or two.
Thanks to the following Owlettes for the birthday wishes:
BON - Prince?!!? Purple Rain - luv me some Prince and his purple badness!!!
VIG - Thanks for the banjo wishes - this time I didn't feel the need to hide!!!
LYNN D - I just think you like to type HODI!!! Thanks again. :D
DIANNE - Thanks for the birthday call!!! ((((HUGS))) to you and your grand daughters (Oh, Mr. Dianne, too!!)
OK.....my cake is almost done.....time to put the chicken in the oven!!
LynnD~~Funny...hadn't thought about Carole King in a while. Just last night I put her 'Beautiful' from the Tapestry album as my MySpace song for a bit. (Also added 'We Are the World' in honor of Quincy Jones' 75th b'day Friday). There are a few vinyl LP's I refuse to part with. That's one, along with The Mamas & Papas (in the bathtub, forget the title), The Beatles' White Album, Sgt Pepper.
Scirish~~Have LOTS of vinyl from the Swing/Sinatra/Big Band era. I especially love the heart-wrenching WWII love songs.
Sound Tracks I've worn out: Grease, Dirty Dancing, A Man & A Woman, and my favorite.....The Original Muppet Movie~~"Movin' right along, footloose & fancy free...." One of my all-time favorite movies!! :D~
Had to put on k d lang......listening to "A Case of You" right now....love it more every time I hear it!
CPGEM8...you're never alone! It's just fun to watch you talk to yourself!!!
Turtle, I think my husband was at that same concert!
I think that is one that he has babbled about.
He has been to a lot and I mean a lot of concerts.
I will ask him tonight, but I almost sure he was at that same one.
My husband totally loves Eric Clapton. He talked me into going to one of his concerts five years ago. At that time I couldn't stand his music.
However, when I went to his concert I totally changed my mind.
His concert was the best one I have ever been too. We went again this past year and it was still an awesome experience.
Can I just say that as I read the list of musicians Owls admire, my Canadian pride has been all riled up. Quite a few of the artists noted are from Canada,eh?! Maple leaves and woohoo to:
Shania Twain
Bryan Adams
The Guess Who
Burton Cummings
The Nylons
k.d. lang
Joni Mitchell
Triumph
Michael Buble
Nickelback
Celine Dion
VIG...don't forget the adorable Sunglasses at Night...COREY HART!
Hi Everyone!!!
Well, it was a lazy day for me. Did absolutely Nothing!
And it was Wonderful!
Took a few short naps and just enjoyed the Sun. It hung around all day. The dog's loved it, played outside and are now taking their naps.
But, that doesn't mean I wasn't thinking about all of you.
I love the music you all are talking about. Now when I change up my playlist on myspace I can refer back to this blog when my brain isn't working. That way, when and if YOU visit my page, you will hear music that YOU enjoy.
Jodi, Glad you're having a Happy Birthday!
Tink, Hope you got some rest. You know I'm thinking of you and your Mom.
Mo, thank's for the email from Ronnie, I was wondering where she was.
Ronnie, If ya see this..Go ahead and play Strip Poker..IF the room clear's, Then just grab all the money off the table and RUN!! LOL
Maybe I should do that too, good way to get some money for all the project's I have going on here!
Mek, Have FUN on your trip and be safe.
Is everyone's snow melting now? I sure hope you have seen the LAST of any more new snow.
Well, off to have dinner. I'll try and stop in later. But, NO PROMISE'S....As I'm quite LAZY today.
You'll be in my thought's and HEART though!!
Just incase I don't get back here.........
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!!
XOXOXOXOX ((((((HUGS)))))
PS...
Speaking of Phantom of the Opera, Michael Crawford is another favorite of mine. There will always be just one perfect Phantom in my mind. :)
I also forgot to mention Celtic Women. Their harmony is angelic!
Mo~~Thanks for sharing Ronnie's note----missing her owl-droppings!
Amicus~~About once a day I have to pull up my MySpace Celtic Women's 'At the Ceili' from my St. Patrick's layout. I miss it!
The earliest concerts I attended go back to the Folk Era: New Christy Minstrels; Peter, Paul & Mary; Brothers Four; and, strangely enough, The Smothers Brothers--humor and incredible harmonies. Also saw Sammy Davis's Mr. Bo Jangles tour in small ballroom setting.
Then came my Motown Years: Supremes & Temptations together; Dionne Warwick; Aretha Franklin...and loved the intimate lounge performances sitting right at the edge of the stage for Ike & Tina Turner, Lou Rawls, George Benson in the early 70's.
The Beach Boys sucked in the Kingdome! Madonna rocked the house at her first Seattle Paramount kick-off to the 'Material Girl' tour. After that, the usual, all of which have been mentioned above. Can't wait to see my beloved Pink Martini again when they get home from the current US tour!
Good Afternoon!!
We are in ALamogordo safely!!
Funny thing about my Garmin - forgot that SHE was on the "old" time and I couldn't figure out HOW I had miscalated my time!! HA HA HA
I have ALOT of comments to catch up on - I scanned over them -
Mo- congrats on 50
Jodi - SO happy that you got 100 on your birthday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!
we are off to a little reception at the hotel, then dinner, then Idol!! The evening can't get any better than that!!
The hotel has a million tv channels - we'll see if they are NOT spanish speaking (that was for you, K'girl!!)
Talk to you all later.. after I have read the comments !!
I LOVE TALKING ABOUT MUSIC!!
Hope you all had an excellent day!!
LYNND: I have to laugh that you have a song picked for your memorial..so do I, a lot of them. My daughter tells me it looks like I am having a concert when I die.
JODI: I sent you an ecard, did you get it? I forgot to ask you.
Ok...while I have been babysitting today I made a big cake for JODI. It's not the one she made already but I thought it would be nice to have one for her. I am still trying to put all the candles on it (even though you are a baby). Don't worry JODI, it's not chocolate...it is whatever flavor you want it to be today! I have some ice cream to go with it..so everyone let JODI blow out the candles and dig in!! Let's have a toast to go along with it...HERE'S TO YA' JODI...HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
MEK~~Tell us what's in your freshly loaded iPod!
Sorry I am so late in checking in. I was happy to see my Zona posting but I had so much on my mind today I couldn't think
"Music". My daughter had her arm operated on today and I have been worried about it. I haven't heard anything yet except that she is now awake so I am assuming 'no news is good news'. She is a nurse and while transferring a heavy man he died, dropping his dead weight on her arm. It tore all the ligaments at the top of her arm. That was 9 months ago and she still isn't healed. They decided to open up the arm and clean out any calcium bits that may have broken off. It's like having gravel in her arm so every time she moves she is in pain. I wasn't going to mention it but Carol said we were all here to share so that is one of the reasons I have been MIA lately. I don't want it to look like I am seeking pity. I seem to be doing that a lot lately.
Music - Music has been one of the most important aspects of my life. I grew up with the piano being the focus of the living room. Almost every night my family would have a sing-a-long. That was our main form of entertainment. I still know all those old songs. I love all kinds of music except for Jazz. I led the primary, intermediate and senior choirs all the years I taught. I also taught the ukulele. I have warm memories of all the school concerts through the years.
My big wish was to see Elvis in Concert. I think I told the story of how I almost risked my teaching position by wanting to call in sick to see “Elvis in Hawaii” in 1972. I just wasn’t brave enough.
My main love is Country Music. When my son was a teenager that’s what he loved too. One of my favourite memories is going with my son to Seattle to see Willy Nelson. He was 15 and it was the first time we had gone on a trip with just the two of us. What a wonderful bonding time that was. We went again to Vancouver to see Willy a few years later but it was with his girl friend as well. We had fun but nothing could duplicate that first trip.
My sister and I also enjoyed seeing any singer who came to town. We enjoyed Tom Jones, Kris Kristopherson, Irish Rovers, K.T. Lange, Loretta Lynn plus a few more I can’t remember. Those were happy times. We were waiting for Vince Gill to come to ‘our neck of the woods’ but that wasn’t meant to be. I don’t think I could ever see him without my sister. I will continue to listen to him on my C.D.’s
TINK! Don't you ever worry about looking like you want pity or sympathy or any other such nonsense. One for all and all for one-remember that. We are here for each other. Comes with the territory of being friends.
Hugs to you for your worries and hoping your daughter's surgery went well and she will be pain free.
At the risk of the Elvis gods coming down on me... I remember when my Mom told me she and Dad had seen him play in a nightclub in Florida when he was first popular. She said she was not that impressed and didn't understand the fuss. I always think of that when I hear someone talk about Elvis!
Tink:
I second Goldie's statements.
A speedy recovery for your daughter!
Tink..wrap the Owl's wings around you for a great big hug! How is your daughter doing? Sending good healing thoughts to her and tons of good thoughts for you!
whispering...the intern is in the audience of Idol tonight.
Hi My Lovely Owls and Owlettes!!! How are you all doing this wonderful Tuesday?
By all the songs, and diverse tastes in music and all the concerts everyone has attended, I imagine everyone should be Whistling a Merry Tune!
I too, like most, love ALL kinds of music. Being a child of the
60's, I go for the Oldies, and of course good old Rock and Roll the most! But, I LOVE country, Jazz, the Blues (I have to be in the mood), and just about everything else! Especially the Mood Music they play while you get a massage!!!
I too, have been fortunate enough to see so many of the "Legends". When I lived in Southern California as a teenager, I saw the Beatles at Dodger Stadium, the Rolling Stones twice, once at the Santa Monica Civic, and I can't remember where we saw them the second time, Sonny and Cher at the Hollywood Bowl, (when they still wore those bell-bottoms and Bobcat vests!!!).
I also went to a HUGE Love-In type concert in 1968 at the Rose Bowl, where Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Cream, The Doors, and I can't remember who else was there, but there were about 50,000 of us all there! (I would say we we all "there" in our minds, though!)That was quite the experience. I even got arrested!!! (That is a story for another blog!)
Recently, I try to see all the Country Bands that come this way, and I saw Celine in Vegas 3 years ago.
So, I think we have all done very well for ourselves!
Oh, I forgot, Wynonna gave us close to the front tickets one time when she was in Santa Rosa, and she brought Laurie backstage to meet her too! I still have her picture on my computer that she took with her. I'll try to see if I can send it to one of my email pals, and they could put it on their MySpace. It's really cool.
Well, yesterday was Laurie's Nuclear Cat Scan.
The whole procedure (the Nuclear CAT) didn't take too long, but Laurie had a little bit of trouble getting the IV in. Even though the DR prescribed some Valium, she got scared and wouldn't relax. So, it took two times. And that is so stressful. I try to talk to her, show her our breathing techniques, etc, but she just gets freaked out too much.
A very nice lady with a Therapy Dog, named Ellie, came in, and that finally took Laurie's eyes off the IV!!! She petted the dog, the lady talked to her about her dog, which was a small Whippet, (looks like a Greyhound, but smaller) and the nice Nurse was finally able to get the IV in! Those Hospital Therapy Dogs are a God Send!
The actual CAT was a piece of cake. Another very sweet Technician held her hand and talked to her through the whole procedure, which took about 20 minutes.
Whew! What a day! At least the next MRI will be done under sedation. I think they pretty much put her out, so she won't move at all during that. But, they still have to get that darned IV in!!!
Well, another American Idol Tuesday! Anxious to hear both the girls and guys sing the same night.
And for my friend Jodi, I hope Your Special Day was FANTASTIC!!!
Peace and love to all my dear friends, DonnaJean and Laurie Elizabeth
I want say.. sorry for just disappearing this afternoon..
work got crazy...
I was heart broken When Stevie Ray died... I couldn't imagine being at the concert right before he died...
SCirish-- Stevie Ray is on my playlist also... and we do have some Kenny Wayne CD's .. He is good...
Jodi-- congrats on 100... but Why are you cooking your on dinner and making your own cake???
Tinka-- Hope everything is good with your daughter....
Diane-- hoping healthy grandkids's for you
DonnaJean arrested....my my I think that has Blog of the Day written all over it!
Jodi: How come you have to cook on your birthday? And are you making your own cake, too? hmmmmm What's wrong with that picture?
Tinka: I'm sending up healing prayers for your daughter. Don't ever feel like you are burdening us. I echo Goldie and Turtle. We are here for each other.
I am off to a sorority meeting tonight but I'm TiVoing Idol. Will watch it when I get home. I'll check in after that.
Hey Owls... I'm back in the nest after a week of a bad head cold and then a few days of trying to get back on track (and starting a full-flegded "dialogue" with my school district!)
Anywho--hoo hoo! I love todays topic because it made me stop and think about some of the amazing concerts I have been to!!
My very first concert was back in 1984 (?) and my brother took me (and my mom~whatever!) to see Kansas. It was during the hit "Dust in the Wind" and I was just in awe of the electric fiddle!
After that, my tastes changed a bit and I went to see Yaz, Culture Club, Billy Idol, Genesis and the best concert EVER...U2 (The Joshua Tree Tour!) We camped out for those tix and it was worth freezing out on the cold concrete.
A few years ago Berry took me to see Elton John and Billy Joel together in concert... I was so excited to see Elton John Live, but in that concert Billy Joel blew him away! He was amazing!!
I haven't been to a concert in years, but the last one was very memorable. We took our 1 year old baby girl to see Peter, Paul and Mary at the Woodinville Winery. I welled-up with tears when I heard Puff the Magic Dragon because I used to sing that when I was pregnant with her. (I know... it isn't a sweet, innocent little song. But hey, I like it!)
Now, I just listen to my iPod which is filled with everything under the sun. When I am in the mood for a certain genre, I just find it and there I go!
Tinka, sweetheart, you are never a sympathy-seeker. None of us are. That is why our Queen Owlette, Carol, created this wonderful place.
A refuge, a haven.
A place to come to when we are happy, and want to share that happiness. Or we just want to share some humor!! (and sometimes be bad little owlettes)
A place to come when we are down, sad, need a a little "boost", a comforting word or two.
A place to come when something very horrific happens in our "normal" life, and we know that whatever we say here, is acceptable, and that those here love and care about us, and do not judge. Just accept us as we are.
I have personally used up alot of OwlsNest space talking about Miss Laurie. But no one has ever asked me to stop talking about her. In fact, they keep asking about her, and keep sending her love, positive thoughts, prayers, etc. And for that I will be eternally grateful!
So, my sweet Tinka, I hope you know that we all love you, and send our love and prayers and positive vibes and whatever else anyone wants to send, to both you and your daughter.
That surgery must have been quite extensive, considering what happened to her. I am sending my positive thoughts, and prayers for a full and speedy recovery. Nurses are Angels. And you know that Angels are messengers from God, so she has an extra special person rooting for her!!!
Now for Turtle.
Yes, Sue, I was arrested.
And maybe that would make a good Blog of the Day. But, mine was very (sort of, a little bit, kinda, maybe?) innocent. And I'm not sure how many of our fine feathered friends out there would be willing to share their arrests, or jail time!
Yes, I was put in the Pasadena Police Department Jail too!
In fact, maybe no one else has ever experienced that mind and body altering experience!
If anyone would be willing to share, just let me know, and I will write a Blog about my experience. It is quite funny. NOW, it is funny. It wasn't funny in 1968!
Well, this damn daylight savings time is screwing up my schedule. I didn't realize it is almost 7:00 and dinner isn't ready yet for Miss Laurie!!!
Gotta go, Love ya all, DJ and LE
TINKA: I hope your daughter is doing much better tonight. Please get some rest.
MEK: Glad you are safe. Thank you for blogging on Myspace!
VIG: *whispers* I heard that...;)
Does anybody else love Karen Carpenter's voice? I think it was just about perfect.
Howdy -
haven't had a chance to read all the comments.
watching Idol..
don't want to spoil - but all I can say right now is
"LET IT BE"!!! BRILLANT!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!!
150
Zona, I love Karen Carpenter! I'm thinking I probably know all the words to all their songs!
Hey Owls, I have a request. I have a friend at work and her name is Jennifer too.
She is funny and great to talk too.
She just went through nasty divorce and she is on her own for the first time ever.
I got her hooked on myspace and now I was wondering, if she could visit the owl's nest.
I really think this could be a good place for her to spread her wings and to build herself up. Also to keep her mind off of loneliness.
She really is nice and she wouldn't hurt any of you.
Please email me at myspace, if you have doubts about someone totally new flying in. I totally would understand.
iteach, I think that if she's a friend of yours, she's a friend of mine! We were all new once . . .
Iteach...
cpgem created this place for ALL of us. and OF COURSE, your friend is welcome!! I hope she will enjoy us as much as we enjoy ourselves!!
Heck, we let my sister in here!! LOL... (sorry IBB!!!)
MEK...how in the heck? You swoop in just in the nick of time!! Congrats on 150!!
OH, and I agree!
TINKA...you are so wrong thinking any of us would think anything unkind. We are your friends and support you and love you for you...in good times and in trying times. {{{hugs}}} to you, your mom and your daughter. Read DONNA JEANS post, she said it so well.
DONNA JEAN...always nice to see your posts. I'm sorry Laurie had such a hard time with the IV. She really is a trooper. {{{HUGS}}} to you and Miss Laurie Elizabeth!
ITEACH...my vote is I have no objections to one of your friends joining the happenings of the nest. If she is your friend, then she must be ok!!
ITEACH: I vote YES!!!
Idol is over and I think I still like the same people I did before.
I'm off to read for a little bit before bed.
Goodnight lovely (and lovey!) owls!
SANDIE: I think I know all the lyrics too. I just love her. Sleep well!
Thanks, Zona. I still get sad when I think about her--such a talent gone so soon.
Ok, I'm really going. Goodnight.
Happy Birthday, Jodie!
So, with all these concerts that people HAVE seen, I thought I'd post my greatest regrets, concert-wise.
1. I've never been to a Springsteen concert. How ridiculous and unforgivable is that?
2. Back in the summer of 1977, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) was touring in connection with their "Out of the Blue" double album. And their opening act was... Meatloaf !!!
OMG! How could ANYBODY in their right mind have passed up ELO and Meatloaf?? But I did!
3. Never saw Pink Floyd. The more I got into them, the less they were touring. Arrrrgggghhhh!!!!
But on the flip side... I was lucky enough to see the Stones at the El Mocambo in Toronto... that was the infamous club date they did for the "Get Your Ya's Ya's Out" live album, where Margaret Trudeau was there and and Keith got busted for heroin possession.
Fun? Wow!
Catching up before settling in for Idol in a few minutes.....lol @ VIG's whispering :o) Where did I hear Rosie's so in love with Danny Noriega she gave him 2 free tickets for the Rosie Cruise?
Zona~~Karen Carpenter had THE purest voice ever! What a loss. Never cared for Richard, but Christmas isn't Christmas without their cd. I've gone from the album to the cassette to the cd, and will get whatever's next.
iTeach~~Tomorrow I'll buy us a new WELCOME mat and some fresh flowers to greet your friend. Are you sure you didn't tell her the Nest was THE place to 'lose' a husband?! :oD~
MEK- "Let it be" was frigging awesome. I don't know how you do it, but congrats on 150!
Zona- I loved Karen Carpenter, I think I know all the word to all the songs.
DJ- glad that Laurie was able to have that therapy dog to help her. What a godsend is right.
And I sooooooooo want to hear about the arrest!
iteach- Invite her in! But warn her about us. Oh, and tell her I will bake her a 'special' batch of brownies :)
SANDIE: Night!
MO: Remember the stuff I told you I was looking through? I just found my ticket stub to the Elton John concert! It was on Friday Oct. 3, 1975 at 8pm! I sat in Section K1 Row 27 Seat 11 :) Wow I can't believe I still have it!!
I just skimmed the comments. I am heading off to bed now that I know my daughter is resting comfortable "arm is still frozen of course". Thanks for the kind words of so many - Goldie, K-Girl, VIG, Ibebold, SacBarb, Donna Jean, Birdee, Zona, Maureen and of course Carol. You are all so wonderful. I really didn't want to mention it but because I did you have all made me feel so much better. I will read all the music comments tomorrow and write you all. God Bless. Love, Tinka
Whabby- I can forgive you all but the Pink floyd. I saw them twice (once in Germany) and once here.
Fanfriggingtastic!
The entertainment of the couple in front of me using my knees as a backrest and pillow while he fingerf**ked her was not quite as amusing though at the last concert....
that is my almost got arrested story DJ- I pushed them off so many times that I finally had enough and slammed their heads together!
BON'O: Not fond of Richard either. We also have a DVD..but it's just some of their videos..not Christmas.
GOLDIE: KC always made it seem effortless to sing like she did, unfortunately when I tried-I always got 'the look'..and rightly so.
TINKA: Goodnight...sweet dreams!
Goldie OMG!!!! I am literally LOL!!!!! That is so funny!!! It would be a bit distracting not to mention rude!!!!
Zona- you know what I gave JODI for her birthday? (besides the SI with Brett?) I DIDN'T sing to her. That was my gift...
Night Tink
Tinkatia Good night. I'm so glad your daughter is out of surgery. Get a good rest.
iteach Of course your friend is welcome. Hopefully, she isn't easily shocked. LOL
j/l - it was so totally over the top. At first I tried to ignore. Then I just pushed them up every little bit, then more, then more and finally I just slammed their heads together. They called security. EVERYONE sitting by me saw what was happening and they were the ones to get tossed. This was at Camp Randall Stadium about 1988- were you there Jodi???
GOLDIE: OMG! ROFL @ your almost arresting story!! Geez...!!
I usually sing louder than everyone..which is why I am soooo familiar with that look!! ;)
WHABBEAR: That Stones show had to be amazing!
Night everyone! Talk to you tomorrow.
Mo and Goldie - I have no idea how you all just left 150 hanging for me...
but - we can take ANY number and make it our own!! :-)
Idol is over - and I will say it again - "LET IT BE"..
ITeach -I have to agree with Goldie - hope your friend doesn't shock easily!! we really ARE a great group of people!!
OKAY - BIT FAVOR -
if anyone watched "Biggest Loser" - my mom would LOVE to know who got voted off....... I guess she switches back and forth, but didn't say anything to me!!
PLEASE - if anyone knows - could you please message me on Myspace I would really appreciate it..
hugs...
Night GOLDIE.
MEK: You have mail.
MEK...and ya got 175, too!!
DONNAJEAN...do share your arrest story!!
GOLDIE...to damn funny!!
I could never understand how people could pay the high ticket prices for concerts then miss the whole thing cuz they were passed out in their seats. Even the contact highs were too much to handle sometimes.
donnajean
Great comment to tinka Thanks!
