Going Green
by iteach
Going Green
The phrase "going green" has been heavy on my mind lately. For the past five years in April I have had this wonderful lady named Nancy come to my classroom and talk to us about taking care of the Earth. I just noticed in my lesson plans that she is coming soon and I have been wondering if I have done anything different in this past year that I can honestly say is better for the Earth.
To be truthful, I am not happy with what little changes I have made. I use to only recycle just cans, newspapers, and glass bottles. This past year I added junk mail, magazines, and empty boxed items to that list.
So what more can I do this coming year?
I have these big ideas, but I a little nervous that I won't follow through. My husband says start small, master that goal, and then move on to another one. I actually think he may be on to something there.
So as I ponder which small goal I should set first , I would like to know what you are doing to help the environment? Do you think about it often? Should we be doing more? Any ideas that you would like to share with the nest?

FIRST!!! WOOHOO!!!
OMG!!! I can't believe I'm first AGAIN! (I was mad that the dogs got me up so early...but hey...it paid off)!
LOL!!!
Great post iteach! I like what your husband said, about starting small and going from there.
I like the fact that our city forces us to recycle (and has done so for almost 20 years now).
I recycle as much as I can (I have even started a container to put old batteries in so they don't end up in the land fills). I do wish that there was a place to take stuff (like old paint, batteries, oil, etc.) more often than just once a year!
Other things that I do is turn out lights in rooms I am not in, and turn down my heat a couple degrees (and use blankets when I am sitting around). I also have a thermostat that you can program (and I have it set to turn all the way down to 58 degrees when Katie and I are at school). It also goes down to 64 degrees while we're sleeping (and we just have extra blankets).
I remember in the 70's (during the first energy crisis) that we made posters in school showing other ways to get places other than driving (walking, biking, car-pooling, and public transportation).
Hi JENNIFER! Congrats on first.
ITEACH: We recycle everything that we can. We also changed all of our lightbulbs to compact florescent. Now I hear that those lights may not be so great because they contain mercury. ~sigh~ I think our ultimate contribution is that we only have one car!
It's so early, I'll have to think more about this topic.
Hi and good morning to everyone that wakes up at a more normal hour! Have a terrific Monday.
iteach: You're right, that we need to do our share as well, but it really needs to begin at the corporate levels (big businesses, etc.). I think it is awesome that you are conscience about it and do try! If we all do our part, things will improve for our planet and for our children's future.
Great post Jennifer! I will definitely think of more ways I can do a better job! Thanks for bringing up this important topic!
Now, back to bed for me! I'll be back later!
Boo hoo, I would have been first but I couldn't sign in. My computer made me remove my cookies first. I got up early just to wait on the blog :)
I have every light bulb in my home with those energy saver swirly looking bulbs. (It's early here people and I haven't had any coffee yet so my brain isn't on full alert mode.) At night I turn my heater down and use my electric blanket. We recycle old newspapers, tin cans and plastic. The city picks it up once a week. Now al I need t do is trade my SUV in on a Prius which is something I would love to do except I'm still involved with animal rescue and unfortunately still need the space. I've been watching all of the new green houses being built. They are building some in New Orleans to replace the ones lost during the hurricane. Brad Pitt is in charge. Go Brad! I lived out in Los Angelos and something really needs to be done there. The smog is horrific. Did you know that live plants will oxygenate your home and give you better air quality. They do so much good.
Good morning dreama, jennifer and zona! Great post iteach!
I enjoyed all your Easter stories yesterday. This is a great place to come.
I just do the basic recycling. I'll think about it more.
Good morning! Fabulous blog entry!
Going green is near and dear to my heart!
I LOVE recycling...I am constantly saying to people "reduce, re-use, recycle"! LOL
I also have those "swirly bulbs" like Dreama has! LOL
I try to buy recycled products whenever I can also!
I also am a "light turner offer"!LMAO
I seriously have always been that way..Like now, my apt. has the utilities included in the rent, but that doesn't matter to me! I still turn off lights when not in a room!
When I was raising my brothers, I was in the habit more so as kids don't have to pay the electric, so they don't think about it! LOL
I may think of more later...
Have a good Monday everyone!
(still gotta upload that owl painting thingy from Goodwill on Saturday)
Good Morning HOoters!!!
Jennifer, Congrats on first, second and third!
Zona! Hi! Yes, there is a dilema about those light bulb's. I heard it can cost as much as $2000.00 to have someone clean up if it shatters. Now they sell a whole 12+ step kit for clean up. Gloves, mask, cleaners, etc...
Barb/Wa. Glad you survived the storm.
Tina, Thanks for the compliment! Love to hear I can crack you owls up! You owls are a funny bunch and sometimes I don't think I'm anywhere close to being as funny as all of you!
As for going Green, we do the recycling, bulbs, unplug things that are not always being used. Alot of times I try to make my own cleaners. Thermostat is also turned down. As cold as it has been here ( below 0 at times) twice my heating bill was only $38.00. the highest was about $119.00. Much better than previous years. We went with a lighter roof, to reflect the sun so hopefully that will help this summer. I would love to use the air cond. less.
Lovey!! I miss you! I hope you're feeling better!! xoxo
Ronnie, How are you doing?
Mo!!!!!! I'm so happy you are liking your new job!
Well, off to browse around a bit. I'll try to stop by later...
The roofers are here and the dog's are so nervous...It's not even noon yet and it's already a stressful day. I may need to lay down for a bit..
Will keep you posted on when my new toilet is ready to be Used!!
Can't wait to FLUSH!!!!
xoxox
Congrats, jennifer! Hi, Zona, iteach, GM, Joey, and Dreama!
iteach: Like Joey, I'm a light turner-offer. I always try to subscribe to that old saying from the 70's energy crisis, "use what you need, but need what you use".
But, maybe more important, I'm going to be in the market for a new car later this year, and seriously thinking about a Prius. That will replace my old clunky 92 Acura, so will be less polluting and much more energy efficient.
Yay!
Tinkatia: Enjoy your day today! ;)
Good morning, birdee!
Good Morning Whabbear!!!
How are you today?
Joey!! I'm constantly telling Mr. Birdee to shut off the light's!
He's very bad about leaving them on!! lol
Here is the owl painting from the Goodwill! I also saw an owl vase(huge) at a thrift shop we went to! Dang, forgot to take a pic! LOL
----------------------->
lol@whabbear and birdee!
Hey!
Joey!!! I so want to go thrift shopping with you!!! I love to do that, and garage sales, flea markets!!! Come pick me up sometime!! lol
Oh! By the way, I changed my page! Let me know what you think!! lol
The more I look at the painting, I regret not getting it now as an "homage" to you all!:(
OH-and my aunt has two of the cutest little "owl plaques"! I remembered seeing them as a child at her house and she's hung them in her kitchen at the current house she owns!
I MUST take a pic next time I'm over there!
I'll peep your page birdee!
OMG I would LOVE that! My Aunt mentioned yesterday that the huge flea market/yard sale thingy they have up this way is coming soon!
We may hafta go pick you up! hehe
Oh and a girl I met at the other blog ions ago, and who I really have no contact with, randomly wrote me and asked was I at that showing of "For the bible tells me so" at the Lyric Saturday! She goes to VA tech and must have seen me! Waiting on her return email!!
Blog Buddy photo-op and I didn't even know it! haha
birdee: I'm good, thanks! And a whole lot better than yesterday morning! Not only was the egg party on Saturday afternoon a killer, but we had friends from San Diego over for dinner afterwards. OMG... I had to go to an Easter brunch just after noon yesterday, and was still feeling none too well.
Joey: Check out my explanation of a "happy ending" over on the Rossblog!
I can't believe he included that in his footage! LOL!
ROFLMAO@whabbear! I just read your post! hilarious!
I am shocked that it's in there too! lol
OMG Lisa, the girl who saw me at the Lyric on Saturday, wrote back!!
She saw ME with my Aunt! She said she recognized my pic from myspace and said "I think that's him"! LOL
She was afraid to come up to me because she thought it might not be and then she'd feel stupid! haha
That was so kewl..She has to do a paper about the show for a class she's taking at Tech!
Jennifer- What do you do with all your old batteries?
We have a million of those with all the kid's toys. I need to "google" that and I find out.
I am constantly turning off lights too. Sometimes I think we could land an airplane at my house with all the lights the kids keep turning on.
Whabbear, glad you're doing better. Hope it continues for the rest of the week.
Joey, you have some of the greatest experience's! I love your enthusiasm!!
xo
Good morning Jennifer, Zona, Dreama,Grandma, Birdee, Joey, Whabbear, iteach. I have recovered from yesterdays dinner. I loved the company, but I am pooped from all the extra cooking and cleaning!
I started recycling a few years ago. It was hard finding a place to take my stuff. I drive 12 miles to the nearest recycling station. I think more people in this rural area would recycle more if we had a closer station. It doesn't seem to be a priority around here. I have a Jeep that is not the best on gas, so I limit my driving. I try and coordinate my trips. I need my Jeep for my Karaoke business, or I would buy a small American made car( I believe in preserving American jobs too).
It is time to head to the treadmill. I have to work off some Easter candy!
Good Morning All Owls -
I started writing down all the names and realized I was more tired than I thought.
Jennifer - Congrats on being first. It's fun isn't it?
Dreama, I know the feeling when you wait for the blog and then you miss it. I am not doing that anymore. It's too frustrating. Sometimes you just hit it right and that's the only way 'to go'.
Good Morning Zona - Thank you for the kind words about my new page. Yesterday was a little traumatic for me so I wanted to put Easter behind me. That sounds so dramatic because I actually ended up having a really good time. It was the build up that was hard.
Whabbear - I will let you know how the day went. Should be fun.
Iteach - Great blog again. You are getting excellent at it. We have a great recycle program here so I think we are all trying to do our best. I can't think of anything different from what has been mentioned. I know my mom was into recycling before it was the fashion. She would carefully save all used Christmas paper and ribbon when I was little. We were never allowed to leave a light on if no-one was in the room. Of course that was cost motivated rather than energy saving but the result is the same.
Good Morning Birdee, Joey, Grandma Moses, Mary and all those that post after me.
Tomorrow I am going to read all those fun stories about Easter that I missed yesterday.
Hello Owls!
I do the light bulb thingy too. I do wish they would make them so they didn't stick out of the lamp though.
I try to do my part in going green, but did you ever notice that eco friendly products seem to be more expensive? You would think the govt would offer incentives to make it more feasible to purchase them.
Good morning to all my chocolate filled owls and owlettes.
Great blog, iteach. I so agree with you about the need to recycle. The need was not as necessay when our grandparents and great-grandparents were keeping house, as the use of batteries, etc. was at a minimal. Batteries were for flashlights, not toys and everything we enjoy today from modern technology. IMHO, it was mostly glass and paper. I do remember paper-drives in elementary school every friday for recycling.
I do as musch as I can to help improve our environment and hopefully leave a cleaner footprint behind.
I'm just doing a fly-by to wish everyone a wonderful week, and to let you know I'll miss you while I'm gone, that is until I get my first bite on the end of my line, then....it's just Me and Him! LOL
Really, I'll miss you guys!
Take care of yourselves and walk each day with a smile on your face.
Ronnie
Good Morning, everyone!!
Happy Monday!!!
Iteach - great blog...
In Tucson and my town - the trash companies provide everyone with a Recycle bin and you HAVE to use it - it is amazing things you think are just trash are really recycle stuff!!
I was taught at an early age to turn the lights off when you leave a room...
This is a short fly by - gotta take Mr. MEK to the airport and then hit Walgreen's for my RUSSELL STOVER VANILLA CREAM EGGS!!! I won't tell you how many Walgreen's I will pass on the way to and from the airport!!! YIKES!!!
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!!
Joey
that owl print is beautiful. You should have bought it. Oh well, I do that should of, could of, didn't. LOL
Wabbear
I've got to see what you wrote on the other blog. OMG! My mind is in the gutter. :0)
Grandma Moses
I need to go visit with you in chat sometime. I miss you guys/ gals.
Tinkatia
I saw your photos on Myspace. Looks like you had a great Easter after all. Pics are lovely!!
Dreama: I'm sorry to steal your "thunder"! I just couldn't believe I hit it again! (As I am not usually up so early)!
iteach: Every year in Dixon, the high schoolers hold a recycling program where you can get rid of all your old paint, oil and batteries, etc. I just wish there was a place to take it more than once a year (as sometimes I miss the day)!
Mary: I think that is great that you recycle (even if it means driving out of your way to do so)!
Morning to Zona, Grandma Moses, Joey, Birdee, Whabbear, and Tink! (And to all the others who post afterwards)!
Have a great day!
I went to Wal-Mart bright an early with all the kids to get all the reduced Easter stuff.
I bought candy that can freeze. Then I bought a lot of Easter napkins and paperplates. I also stocked up the Easter giftbags, because some of them don't look to "Eastery". They could be used for a baby or a little girl's party.
I do that after every holiday, because I can't stand paying full price for something when I know will be 1/2 off right after the holiday is over.
Awww, thanks birdee!:)
Dreama: I do wished I would've bought the owl painting now!:(
Okay, I was trying to fall asleep last night and daydreaming, and I thought of a meaning for the acronym O.W.L.S.!hehe
OLDER WOMEN(AND WHABBEAR)LAUGHING SAFELY
OR
OLDER WOMEN LOVING SELFLESSLY
OLDER WOMEN LOVE SEX
(ROFLMAO)
Someone help...anyone! LOL
It needs an improvement..Who has a better version!?
**by using the term "older" I was not implying that ANYONE here is old!:)hehe
OFFICIAL WOMEN'S LATENIGHT SLUMBERPARTYHAHA
Joey - I will give it some thought. I don't feel very creative right now. Whabbear and others should be able to come up with some neat ones too. Your acronyms are great.
Dreama - Thanks for the compliments about my pictures. We had a good time after all.
Good Morning Ronnie, Scirish and Mek. Have a great day.
Joey, I'm trying to think.
I'm going to go find a dictionary or my husband and get back to you !
Joey, How about taking the "older" out and making it "Owlettes Love Sex Hee Hee!
Whabbear I can't believe your comment wasn't "commented" back! I know you weren't talking about milking a cow LOL!!! were you ??
Jennifer, the recycling station is on my way to where I shop, so I always stop there with something.

Good morning!
Congrats Jennifer!
We recycle everything we can, and I try to buy recycled products.
The city we live in requires us to recycle. We have a separate can for grass and leaves, and another for cardboard, glass, plastic, etc.
Something we try to do to save gas is make only 1 trip for all our errands.
It was so nice reading all the Easter stories yesterday! We had a pretty slow day at work, so I was able to read the blog.
Have a great day!
OMG Mary-The ones you came up with are FANTASTIC!:)THX!
OMG thought of a funny one!
ORAL WHABBEAR LOVES SHOTS
LMAO
Joey you are a scream!
I bought the energy efficient bulbs and found that the plastic wrapped package they came in was not recyclable!
Good morning/afternoon Owls.
Jennifer: Congrats on #1 again
Great blog iteach. Recycling is important to preserve our planet for future generations. Like Tinka, my mother was one of the original recyclers, but it was cost motivated. Basically she was just "thrifty" but the result was the same. She saved EVERYTHING to reuse, even foil which she washed to reuse.
I don't go quite that far, but I do put everything in the recycle bin that I can. I have recycled my junk mail for a long time, but first I take my address label off and shred it. Then I recycle the shredded paper. I have changed all my light bulbs, I turn off lights, I unplug anything I am not using and I take bags to the gross-ry store to put my purchases in. My biggest green effort was buying a hybrid car last June.
scirish: I also take issue that eco items are more expensive and the light bulbs that are supposed to last 5 years...I don't think they last as long as the old incandescent ones and that really burns me.
Joey: How about:
Our wondeful love site
Zona: from aea 51-no I am not finished packing yet. I keep getting distracted.
iteach....you and I are definitely singing the same songs! I actually wrote a blog last night about this very topic. So glad you have addressed an incredibly important subject. I think about this all the time and go to the protests (big one coming up this weekend in Victoria) and vote for the parties and politicians that support my views around global warming and saving this incredible earth.
Please support:
EARTH HOUR
March 29th at 8pm
Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of March 29th at 8PM local time to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions.
Love all your ideas and things you all do to be green...and as kermit has so profundly confessed..it's not easy being green...and you are all doing a phenomenal job. I do what you do around light turning off and am going to get a smaller, possibly hybrid car this summer. But bike, walk and bus it when I can. I recycle, reduce, reuse and REFUSE! I refuse bags....always take my own cloth bags or just don't get a bag. I am trying to see how few bags I end up with at the end of the year. I refuse receipts...asking the sales clerk not to print them off and I never get one at the ATM and online bank instead. (it sounds silly I know...just one little piece of paper...but think of how much paper that adds up to in a year..for just one person!) I take my own containers if I know I am going to be getting something at a deli that requires a container. I shop as a little as possible at dollar stores, Walmart, Costco and other big box stores because of their manufacturing and labour practices and extreme use of packaging. I eat locally and organically as much of possible and use eco-friendly cleaners or make my own...nothing better than vinegar and water to give things a shine!
Whabbear...thank you, thank you...you are always educational!!! When someone mentions a happy ending, I will never think of it in the same way!
Joey...keep going...you are on a roll! Way too funny!
hehe VIG!
Sacbarb: LOVE THAT ONE!:)
Howdy Owls :o)
Congrats on 1st Jennifer.
Great blog Iteach! I try to be earth friendly.
Thank you so very much to all that have sent messages, phoned (even tho they weren't answered), and left me beautiful Easter cards and comments on my page.
I'm so very sorry I wasn't able make and send greetings this holiday.
I promise to make it up to ya'll.
I don't like bringing my troubles, illnesses or turmoils to the nest, I like being HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY here, but I think I owe you my dear friends an explanation to my MIA.
Recently I was sent for tests on my bladder,my 5th year finals.. and they came back "irregular", so I have been spending most of my time back n forth as an out patient at the hospital, and Doc's office.
I've been very tired and depressed and spending a lot of time sleeping.
I've tried to pop on to myspace once a day to check mail, and I did receive your letters and I thank you... I am sorry I didn't reply, but I know you understand.
I just can't bring myself to bring this happy sunshine place down,I felt it was better for the nest for me step away and deal with my life issues and find my smile before flyin back.
I'm feeling better, and hope to jump back in soon.
Thanks again my Owl friends.
With Love n Hugs, xox
Sorry to hear that lovey! We have missed you! Hope you're better soon!
I have another fun site(and it's for a good cause)!
It also helps you with vocabulary while earning grains of rice for the hungry!
FREE RICE
Lovey! OMG! Do you mean you made it to 5th year of remission, but cancer may be recurring?
Please don't think you shouldn't post about these things to keep the nest a happy place! We're also here to share our life voyages, and support each other when the seas get rough. Please keep us in the loop, and big hugs to you!!
Lovey!!!!! I'm so glad you shared what has been going on in your life with us!!! I love YOU!!!
You don't have to wait until your smile comes back before you post again. We are here for you no matter what... good, bad, indifferent....no matter the "mood". You have our support and love! You are in my thought's and my heart daily.
There are not enough word's to describe how Special you are to me! You make me laugh with your jokes and quick wit. You make me cry and smile with your Kindness, Understanding, Comforting Words, and Wonderful Spirit!
You have Blessed my life with your FRIENDSHIP!!
As I said once before, I want to be just like You when I grow up! ;o)
We're here for you Alway's. You're in my Prayer's!
I Love you, Lovey!!!

Just got home from my "HUNT" - I think I wasted more gas trying to find the "prize" -
First of all - you know that you must be REALLY sick, when your own husband will NOT hug you goodbye at the airport... :-(
Second - i went to FIVE Walgreen's - first one - found 18 of my little eggs. second one - NONE, third one - NONE - fourth one, TWO, almost gave up but I thought I would got to ONE more..
AND SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! I got TWO boxes - that were untouched, never opened!!!!!!! YES......
So - my day is complete...
Now - I must rest!! Exhausted all my energy getting half price Easter candy!!! Not too smart on my part - but it was a good cause!!
Lovey - I am glad that you are getting better - BUT - it is SO important to have FRIENDS around you when you are down!! SOOOO, next time - you need to let us know - the power of thoughts and prayers are ENORMOUS!!!!! Love ya..
Lovey: You are in my thoughts and prayers. I think this is the perfect place to share your "downs" as well as your "ups"! (((HUGS)))!!!
Joey, my daughter has been on that rice site before! Fun!
VIG: I commend your efforts! Those plastic sacks you get at stores are annoying and I love that you bring your own cloth bags. Do you keep them in your car? (Sometimes I don't always plan on going to the store).
Great ideas! I also like the idea about turning off the lights on March 29th! (I hadn't heard of that yet)!
Lovey:
Good or bad we are here. Post when you feel like it, take the nonsense and laughter that abounds and use it as healing vibes, and know that whenever you need to vent us Hooters are here!
Hugs to you, Turtle~
Awww Lovey...So so sorry you have to deal with all that worry. But don't think you can't share your feelings here..Happy or sad we are here for you
(((hugs)))
Oh, Lovey, you won't bring any of us down. Only, I can bring myself down and sometimes I do a pretty good job of it.
Thank you so much for flying by and resting your wings a bit.
Please do so again and don't worry about thinking this is the happy happy place.
There is a lot of hormones flying around this nest and they are not always the happy ones. :) Especially since my Aunt Flo is coming this week.
Oh, this kind of selfish but the next time you stop by could you bring some food? No one feeds us anymore. :)
Mary/MI: Great minds think alike. I didn't see your comment before I posted.
MEK: Yay for your candy score.
VIG: I take cloth bags to the store also and I do keep them in my car so they will always be handy. I found bigger ones at the San Diego Zoo recently and I bought two of them. They are twice a big as the $.99 from the grossry store. (Lynn I just love that term) And Costco had huge plastic coated cloth bags to use instead of boxes. I keep them in my car also.
Vig~ Let's see if Carol would post the one hour of no electricy on March 29th.
I had no idea about that day and that sounds neat.
VIG that might be a neat bulletin for you to post on myspace and they we can all post to our myspace friends.
VIG I'm ready to make that move to cloth bags.
Lovey: As MEK said, there is power in prayer and who better to provide that for you than your Owl friends. I will be praying that all goes well for you. Never worry about bringing us down. We want to be here to support you.
I've had the Earth Hour page on my friends for a couple weeks now! Saw the ad on my homepage!
here ya go:
EARTH HOUR
I can't seem to find them on my list, but remember adding them!
If there is another page, I'll let y'all know asap!
Sacbarb:
What time do you get into my lil island? And you get here Thursday yes?
K-girl: We arrive on WEDNESDAY around the noon hour.
Well Thursday I am taking a friend to a place where my friends play music, you are welcome to join us or meet us there. Its a steak house that overlooks fishermans wharf...they play jazz and R & B
LOVEY~~Ditto what all have said before me (and what I said to you yesterday). Personally, I'd give up the nest if I thought it was nothing more than a shallow 'all-funny, all the time' site. This place is about informed and unconditional friendship, right?!?
Amazingly enough, we have SUN for Spring Break! But they say snow Thursday, which is kind of a twice-in-a-century thing.
I'll split up some 'Going Green' comments into separate posts......Thanks iTeach for this great forum for sharing ideas! This one's long 'cause I include a website link for any who might be interested. (sorry)
We have a wonderful non-profit recycling center called BRING, whose motto is "REDUCE*REUSE*RECYCLE*RETHINK". Tons of building supplies, old windows, wrought iron items that find new homes in gardens, etc. It even has a training center! Here's an excerpt from the website:
BRING Recycling is one of the nation’s oldest non-profit recyclers. Since 1971, we have encouraged people to rethink what they use and what they throw away. We help our community keep useful items out of the landfill, find ways to use less stuff, reuse as many things as possible and recycle the rest. From collecting and processing household recyclables to teaching kids about using earthworms to compost, BRING has a wealth of information, practical tips and programs to help you live sustainably in Lane County.
• Here’s where you’ll find lots of information on BRING’s recycling operation, how to prepare recyclables and a comprehensive guide on what you can recycle in Lane County, Oregon.

hmmm 64

69 woohoo
I just finished everyones Easter stories and now I want chocolate!!!
I asked NOT to get any this year as I wanted to stay on my WW diet, but I ate too much ham and scalloped potatoes anyway *sigh*. I guess one day won't do too much damage, but I feel guilty anyway.
Woohoo! sacbarb and turtle may meet!:)
I wished I was going to Hawaii! lol
here is another Earth Hour site. This may be the "official" one!
EARTH HOUR TAKE 2
K'girl - You bring a smile to my face everytime you do that march.. When I got in my car today to go to the airport - my mileage for my tank was on 69.3 - and I started laughing - I thought of you...... just couldn't bring myself to explain it to Mr. Mek!!
Congrats on 1st today Jennifer!
Thanks for the blog iteach!
LOL at birdee's QOTD! Have you got that sucker all broken in?!?!?!
I try to be good and recycle. I have trouble doing the food cans. I'm lazy about cleaning them out so I end up throwing them away. I do get all of the beverage cans recycled, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc. I waste water at home. I take long showers and I don't turn the water off when I brush my teeth. WHen we are in the traielr though I'm good about it because the tanks are small. But at home I'm hoping to get better.
K-girl: Sounds good. Send me details and I will call you after we land to confirm. Is it anywhere near our hotel?
75?
hmmm a third of the way thru 69.... shall i expand on that thought? lol
Always wonder why no one marches with me, hmmmm.
Synchronicity again. Just a moment ago, there was a 'tease' on TV for special coverage on tonight's local news, saying "Do you think you'd know what to do if one of those energy efficient bulbs broke in your child's room? If so, think again! The full story on tonight's news."
Going Green is a passion for me. I won't repeat what others have already mentioned except to describe our local system. Oregon is all about recycling. Our sanitation company (Sanipac) provides us 3 wheeled toters: one small one for garbage, one huge one for yard waste, another huge one for commingled recycling (put out for pick-up on alternating week cycle). I'm in love with my recycle toter! No separating papers, magazines, junk mail (I too remove and shred anything with name / address/ personal info), shredded paper, cardboard packaging, cans, plastics. I keep mine open in the garage right next to the kitchen door, and just give everything a toss. A separate 'blue box' is provided for glass. We have a 'sanitation center park' (aka dump) with separate areas for tires, electronic equipment, paint cans and hazardous materials, etc.
The big Costco collapsable bags SacBarb mentioned are fantastic!!! I think they're 3 for $4 or so. I keep them in the car at all times, and now I take one in with me to every store where I shop for gross-rys. I haven't had to choose "paper or plastic" for months! AND, they actually make it easier to get all the crap into the car and into the house. They're very sturdy!
Short (I promise) part 3 later....
toilet update!!!
Sad to say....My butt may have to wait until the weekend to experience the pleasure of it's new sitting place!
xoxox
I may go into the garage and open the box and.....pop a squat!!!
birdee:
mahalo nui for the okole update!
LMAO@birdee!
I love those cloth bags by the way! They do hold SO much more and are way more sturdy!
I thought of a story I forgot to tell y'all about my Adventures with Aunt weekend! LOL
Saturday, before seeing the documentary, we walked into this upscale clothing store near VA Tech campus! Upon walking in the door, I see a pool table in the back, amazing chandeliers, and cute salespeople! LOL
I walked over to a table that had this "cloth bag" with boxer shorts in it..The price tag???
$75.00 freakin' dollars! LMAO
I almost fainted..A polo I looked at was $90.00! Just then, a cute guy came over, introduced himself to us, shook our hands and asked could he get us some "perrier water, starbucks or anything else"!ROFLMAO
I felt SO out of place...I told Aunt Shirley after we left, they should've offered a prime rib dinner to come along with based on the prices in the store!!
Has anyone been to a place like this!?LOL
(I assumed the beverages were complimentary, but we declined and quickly left haha)
OMG I just found their website! I forgot about the popcorn machine in the back by the pool table! haha
It was just a new experience for this southern boy;)
SHE SHE FOO-FU STORE
LMAO! well good thing I can rename links because the link was LONG!
Note the name I gave it;0haha
JOEY~~I'd pay $90 for a Polo in a heartbeat....IF it was a Ralph Lauren and Ralph was part of the deal!
p.s. Wish you were here. This weekend is our "World's Biggest Garage Sale" at the county fairgrounds auditorium. Hundreds of vendors pay $40 for their own section, $2 admission goes to charities. We could have a blast!
OMG BONO!! Sounds like a blast! Wish I was there!:(
Broke as a joke! LMAO
Bonnie and VIG you ladies rock when it comes to Saving our Planet.
Bon, I am very impressed with your city. They have a lot pride!
Joey you are not broke. Seriously, your genorisity and passsion makes you the richest one here! I have always thought that about you.
Joey OMG the name of that store is Big Lick U rotflmao
Bono....i wanna go!!!!!
awww iteach that is SO sweet!:)you're gonna make me start crying!
I know BIG LICK U! LOL
the store is named "310 Rosemont" but yes, it's on that BIGLICKU site!
I have YET to figure out why they call it that..I found the BigLickU site a while back but never understood it! haha
I was waiting to see how long it would take someone to notice that;)
y'all are good!

Goldie, I thought that it was odd we had not heard from you today!
Thanks, iTeach!! I won't get on my soapbox about other 'green' ideas, but here's a 'Save a Tree' and save cash/do less laundry tip I love...
the blue Scott Shop (paper) Towels!
I buy them by the 8(?) pack at Costco (sorry, VIG!). I mounted a paper towel holder on my kitchen pantry door, and have another in the laundry area and one inside the bathroom cabinet. Haven't bought a flimsy Bounty for years. They are so strong! I use them for lining the microwave turntable, pre-washing dishes, dusting, general cleanup everywhere.
iTeach~~Just read your 5:17 post to Joey. Couldn't agree more, and it's a good excuse to post lyrics I just sent to a friend earlier as I was listening to this song on my new MS playlist. Powerful words, more easily appreciated with the music, but:
"There's Hope"
[Verse 1:]
Back when I had a little
I thought that I needed a lot
A little was over rated,
but a lot was a little too complicated
You see-Zero didn't satisfy me
A million didn't make me happy
That's when I learned a lesson
That it's all about your perception
Hey-are you a pauper or a superstar
So you act, so you feel, so you are
It ain't about the size of your car
It's about the size of the faith in your heart
[Chorus:]
There's hope
It doesn't cost a thing to smile
You don't have to pay to laugh
You better thank God for that
[repeat]
There's hope
[Verse 2:]
Off in the back country of Brazil
A met a young brother that made me feel
That I could accomplish anything.
You see just like me he wanted to sing
He had no windows and no doors
He lived a simple life and was extremely poor
On top of all of that he had no eye sight,
but that didn't keep him from seein' the light
He said, what's it like in the USA,
and all I did was complain
He said-livin' here is paradise
He taught me paradise is in your mind
You know that
[Chorus]
[Bridge:]
Every time I turn on the T.V. (There's Hope)
Somebody's acting crazy (There's Hope)
If you let it, it will drive you crazy (There's Hope)
but I'm takin' back my power today (There's Hope)
Gas prices they just keep on rising (There's Hope)
The government they keep on lying
but we gotta keep on surviving
Keep living our truth and do the best we can do
[Chorus]
Stand up for your rights [echo]
Keep shining your light [echo]
And show the world your smile [echo]
Hi all,
Lovey, I agree with everyone else. We are all here for you if you need us.
I've found great support for my kitty cat princess (Paula) while she's been ailing. I can't tell you how good I feel knowing so many people think about her and care.
I want you to know that you have lots of support here, and people who care about you, too.
Thanks BONO! I just googled it and it's India Arie!! Kewl!
I'll have to give it a listen..LOVE the lyrics;)
Off for a bit....
oh did you know there is a song "GOOGLE ME"!?LMAO
She's a girl who was on that bratty show Super Sweet 16!
Google her;)LMAO
Teyana Taylor-and the video link is on Perezhilton.com
LOVEY
It's always stressful to get back those test results and they read irregular. I hope it is of some comfort to you to know that my results have come back irregular and they redid them and the second tests were fine. This has happened to me twice over the years. It's that darn waiting part to get them redone again that can really stress a person out.
1. We recycle as much as we can It's too expensive to go up another garbage to throw out anything we can possibly recycle.
2. We recently replaced as many lights in our house with CFL's that we could - still haven't found anything that replaces those bulbs that look like flames.
3. We considered a Prius but like Dreama, needed the space. We now drive a Scion xB which is just a hair better in gas consumption than a Honda Accord, much cheaper to buy and insure, and it has enough space that we were able to haul a loveseat and a 7.5'x13' dog run kit from Lowes (on different days, of course) in there.
4. I go behind my husband and kids turning off lights because they never remember to, hee hee!
5. Our home doesn't have or need A/C. We have a programmable thermostat for our heater that we never set higher than 65 degrees and it drops to 60 at night and during the day. We use blankets when we're sitting around watching TV.
6. We unplug things not actively being used. This includes the toaster, the coffee pot, etc. I just realized I always keep the microwave plugged in but that's because it has a clock on it and because the plug is behind the microwave cabinet.
7. We use canvas bags for grocery shopping.
8. We recycle batteries at work and are conscientious about following their recycling program as well.
We have made these small changes a little at a time over the past years so it hasn't been too hard to adapt.
Have a great week everyone!
Hello All...great blog again today, thanks ITeach.
Lovey, please know I am thinking about you. I agree with everyone that it is good to have all the good thoughts and extra prayers when we need them. I have appreciated so much all the care and good feelings while my family has been sick. I also have gone through the five year check, etc., and scared each time. I have had some setbacks over the years but they have ended up okay. I think it is like Dreama said, the waiting and thinking is very hard. Feel my good thoughts to you...
Interesting that the blog is about saving energy and there Tina is washing not one but two loads of water!! shame on you...wouldn't it be easier to just get a vibrating chair :)
MEK: Sorry you are feeling sick again. It's like will this dang stuff ever go away and STAY away. You know the drill--fluids and rest and lots of sleep. Take good care of yourself. Oh, btw, I went to Walgreens again today and no vanilla eggs but lots of carmel and marshmellow...so I was happy!
Well, I am off to Texas on Wednesday to visit for about five days. I will be leaving to fly home the day before Ronnie gets back from vacation...darn it!
CAROL; The pictures you put at the beginning of each day are great. You are all so computer talented, card making talented, etc.
I am going to run some errands now so I can start packing soon as it takes me days to pack for only a couple of day trip. I am world's worst packer!!!
Sacbarb and Dianne in Denver - safe travels to you both..
K'girl and Iteach - great march to 100!! it never gets old!!
Thanks MEK and you better start getting more rest or you'll never get rid of that crud.
Oooohh, Billy Joel on Oprah!
Only the good die young!!!!!
Joey- thanks for noticing I was AWOL
I had a nice long post this morning all written out too :(
Congrats on 1st jennifer
Great blog iteach
I recycle everything they will take
I turn off lights and turn down the thermostat too.
That said, I am sure I don't do NEARLY enough things I could be doing.
Hope everyone who was ailing is feeling better.
MEK- I went to Walgreen after work and they had at least 30 boxes! Unopened. They had so much easter candy it didn't look like they sold any before Easter. 50% off.
LOVEY- We are here for each other. You cant' bring us down. If you are not comfortable sharing that is ok- but please don't feel like you can't come to us for support and love. I really believe that is what friends do and we are friends in the truest sense of the word. I missed you and am thrilled you are back!
Now sit back, eat some fresh baked brownies and slap anyone hands who tries to grab them from you. :)This is our own special batch.
birdee is this toilet obsession a throw-back from childhood? LOL!!
Joey, thanks for the heads up on the Earth Hour.I had no idea you could rename links! Would you cosider giving an old owl 'puter lessons? I wish I lived near you, I would make a pest of myself!
Lovey, How can we send out our love and prayers if you don't keep us updated. We are family remember? Nesters stick together through thick & thin.
Diane, ROTFLMAO~ Tina & vibrating machine!
I use the cloth bags to gross-ery shop too. I love the handles. So much easier to carry. I left my bags in the jeep the other day. The bag boy said he would wait while I got them. I also recycle my empty printing ink cartridges. I am worried about one thing. I am wondering where all the old non H.D. t.vs will be taken. Can you imagine millions of them in the landfills?
Diane, I meant vibrating CHAIR heh, heh!
Goldie - teasing MEK with her 30 boxes of unopened Easter candy!! that is just NOT nice!! LOL..
BUT - more importantly, were they the VANILLA CREAM RUSSELL STOVER eggs!!!
:-)
Yes MEK they were- should I go back and get you some?????
I just had something happen that has made my day. I had a visit from our friend, Karen from Canada. She came with her two beautiful children and I mean, really beautiful, inside and out. They are lovely, well behaved kids. Tango and Tia loved playing and doing tricks with them. We had a great time. The hour went by so quickly. I feel like I have known her forever. Next time she comes I will be feeling better and I will give her a tour of my teddy room and collectibles' room. Her daughter did love my doll room. What a wonderful feeling when you meet a blog buddy in person and they turn out to be just as nice as they are on the computer. Thank you KFC.
I just came back from the library with the kids and I think I picked out some winners.
1. Eat Pray Love, no idea what is about , but I hear everyone loves it.
2. My Enemy's Cradle, A young jewish woman trapped in the sinister web of the Nazi Lebensborn program.
3. You've Been Warned, I love anything by James Patterson
4. Living Like Ed, a Guide to the Eco-Friendly Life.
I am really excited about the last book. Ed Begley Jr. wrote it, remember, they guy from St. Elsewhere.
Anyway, it looked really friendly and I plan to bore you with neat tips from that book. :)
iteach:Ed had a show on HGTV-reality show with him and his wife showing how they lived "green"! I think it was HGTV! lol
Short lived:(
The couple times I watched, I thought it was pretty good!
**You're gonna read me in the headlines tomorrow if I don't hurry up and get a call or text from someone!**-and THAT someone knows who HE is!
LMAO
iteach I love Ed, have you seen his show on HGTV? He is a fun fanatic on going green.
I've heard of the first book you mentioned. I think I will go to the library tomorrow.
Joey I didn't know it was canceled. I liked it. A little overboard for me, but it worked for him.
Hi Owls!
I have not read the the topic yet, or the posts, but I heard about MEK's candy incident and wanted to respond here.
MEK-
It sounds as if your candy hunt was rather traumatic. You had to stretch, squeeze and smash just to reach it? I hope you don't have to have therapy to help you get over that....I also hope you warmed up before you went...I would hate it if you pulled anything, all for the sake of some creme eggs. I was so glad to hear you finally found them though, elusive as they may have been.
You know MEK, when I read your status, it had reminded me of when I first moved here and a hurricane was headed our way. I went to the store to stock up on supplies, completely unaware that I was walking into the middle of a cage match! The crazies were ramming people with their baskets and running people over. I finally managed to get some tuna fish in my cart, when this person started running over my toes with her very full basket! I bent down to see if my toes were bleeding and she took my tuna fish! Geez...."Take my tuna, but leave me my toes!"
So, that is why I was wondering if you were running over toes to get your eggs.
OMG...MEK and Bono...more synchronicity...my nephew and I just spent some time in some second hand stores and guess what I found...a Sound of Music piano book! Happy Dance...the next time we watch SOM communally..I will be able to serenade you all piano-ically (and with the help of youtube!!!)!
Haven't had a chance to read all the posts as it has been a busy day and will read them later, but I do want to say to
LOVEY - I have been thinking about you all day and I send you good healing thoughts and the hugest hug possible!!
jax:
you need to come here more often, I laughed my ass off reading your post!!
MEK: I think there are some here at Longs, you like me send you some?
Yay for Tinka and KFC having a visit!
Yay for iTeach getting 'eat,pray,love'......Careful, you might run off to Italy on Spring Break! Did you ever watch "Living With Ed" on HGTV? He drives his wife nuts with his eco-friendliness. Ed Begely was 'Green before green was cool'. Bordering on anal-retentive actually :=D
Yay for everyone's Easter candy...I just came home from a gross-ery run to Safeway, and thought of MEK when I popped in to the Pharmacy/Stationery store next door to get Oregon postcards for iTeach's class. They had tons of every Russell Stover. I'm one of those odd birds who could live forever without chocolate, but....
Yay for me...Safeway has Dreyer's Grand Limited Edition Coconut Pineapple Ice Cream AND it was buy one, get one free. Saved $6.50 and got the closest thing to my old fave, Maui Maca Macaroon. Just have to add my own macadamia nuts. K'girl, could ya toss me a batch, please?
Oops....just noticed above posts about Ed.
BonO: you like em whole or chopped?? INCOMING>>>>>>>>>>>>>
VIG~~Can't wait for the video!
K'girl....whole, chopped, glazed, salted....you name it!
Here is a hug for you!!!!!
I never forget about you. :)
shirley:
Warm Hawaiian hugs your way darlin~
Hello my Owls!
I am pooped and brain fried! I learned so much today! It made me wonder if I wanted to know all of this. I got the fun classes on disasters and how the foodbank may be called to help! Boy oh Boy!
Iteach great blog! I have not read the posts yet so I hope I don't repeat.
We have switched all of our lights to the energy efficent bulbs.
Mr. Lynn D and I are down to one car. He rides the bus most days to work and even when he goes to Seattle for lenghty trips for work. He works for the Dept of Transportation and says if they don't set the example who will? Gotta love him for that.
Next year we plan on putting in raised beds to grow our own....Veggies! Got Ya! So we are looking at an area in our yard to do our own composting of kitchen scraps and starting our own worm box.
We recycle all of our paper cans etc..
Small thing make a huge difference if we all do it!
Jennifer Congrats on first!
OK going to read.
Shirley here is another hug for you ! :)
Shirley my dear friend, I know just what you are talking about!
There are days, when as much as I love my friends on the blog, I just don't have the energy or whatever to post.
No one will ever forget you, my darling!
Never fear, Your Owl Friends Are Here!
Big group hug from me and everyone else too!
Just remember what I told you many many months ago when we first started blogging. Don't give up! Open those blinds and windows, and let whatever sunshine you might have, come on into your home. Maybe even get out, even if it is just for a few minutes to breathe in some fresh air. (not sure the temp in Nova Scotia this week, so don't freeze yourself!)
And be sure to stay in touch with your friends. Both here on the Blog and in your "real" life.
Love you lots, Shirley,
DonnaJean and Laurie Elizabeth
Shirley - You are doing great getting on the blog to comment. Good for you. I know how hard it is to post when you don't have anything you want to say. Baby steps my darling. Try one little post each day. I for one (and I know there are many of us) will be waiting to see those posts. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Also that great big hug.
Love, Tinka
lovey share dammit! We are here for you! ((((Hugs)))
Shirley thank you for checking in! (((Hugs))) for you too!
Jennifer: Our county dump has what they call Hazo house. You can take any hazardous waste material there anytime they are open and they dispose of it for you.
They also seperate all garbage. Computer equip in one area, appliances in another area, yard waste another area etc... It is like driving into a giant garage sale! LOL Very organized!
Lovey, I also want to send to you my prayers, and positive thoughts on what is happening to you right now.
I also so agree with what every one else has said. We are here for you, through the happy, silly times, and through the sad, tough and needy times!
Believe me, I have used up enough time on that! I know everyone here feels the same way!
Courage, Faith, and Positive Thoughts only!!
Many feathered wings surrounding you with love and strength tonight and for all the days to come!
Love you sweetie, DonnaJean
Hugs to you Shirley. I'll even give you a little pinch on the butt too!
:)
SHIRLEY
big warm hugs being sent your way.
TINK
that is great that you were able to meet KFC. Perhaps sometime you, KFC & VIG can all meet up together.
Goldie, I am going to pinch her other butt cheek. Which one did you pinch?

shirley:
keep coming back sweetie......even every other day works for us!! And no need deleting the comments, you fit in here however you are feeling or whenever you are needing.
Hey hooters!
Shirley here is a giant hug for you {{{{{{{ HUGS SHIRLEY }}}}}}}
No one will forget you!
Tinka, as of today you are no longer a meeting-a-blog-buddy-virgin.
Isn't it fun??
And this week SacBarb and K-girl are meeting! That's so wonderful!
I'm hoping some of you that I haven't met yet will be able to come to the BABB on Aug. 30th.
JOEY! Does it surprise me that you shop at a store called Big Lick? NO! (tossed salad, remember? lol)
WTF would they name a store Big Lick? It is funny, tho!
Good evening OWLETTES!
I finally caught up for today, but I too am kinda fried, so I will prolly screw up this post!
LOVEY...sweetie, we are here for you whenever you want to be here. We love you when you make us laugh so hard we need NASA diapers. We love you when you are spreading well wishes. We love you when you need well wishes. Can you tell we love you? LOL! Don't ever feel you have to stay away. You enrich my life...regardless of your mood. Let us help you thru the tough times. {{{hugs}}} sweet one.
SHIRLEY...see above ^^^. The same sentiments go for you, too. {{{hugs}}} my FAVORITE tart!
TINKA...I am glad your Easter ultimatly turned out well. I guess it boils down to the fact it doesn't matter what you do, it is who you do it with.
MEK...you creme egg ho!! You cracked me up!
JAX...Welcome back...please don't stay away so long.
K-GIRL...you are such a 69 ho! I got your message and will try and write back tonight.
JOEY...your O.W.L.S' cracked me up!
ITEACH... great blog! So important. I admit I am a bad recycler ;(. When I used to make gift baskets for gifts I would shred up the ads, cuz they are colorful, and use that as the filler in the bottom of the basket. I am kinda scared of those new bulbs. I tend to drop and break bulbs...and I don't wanna die for it!
JENNIFER...congrats on #1!!
LYNN...glad you learned a lot at your conference. Maybe you can do a blog about foodbanks sometime. I learned a little about disasters today in my orientation, too. They told us, that as hospital employees, even non-clinicians, the hospital is our priority in a disaster. We were told to be sure our families have a disaster plan in place, so they will be safer while we are remanded to the hospital. Kinda scary.
Ooopsies...another novel from me!
Maureen - You are so right. It's who you do something with is so important and there is nothing more important than family.
If I gotta be a ho, at least as a 69HO I am gettin whilst giving!
off to fight traffic to my lil mountian abode.
Gotta stop at Best Buy on the way, Im gettin beat up by friends who miss me on IM, and a router shoppin I am goin....
Okay my fine feathered friends, I'm off to bed.
I have so many new books to look at tonight that I don't know which one to start with first.
I usually fall to sleep with graded papers in my lap.
I'm so excited that it will be books this week .
Good Evening Everyone!
I did not read all the comments yet as I have been working on the daily blogs.
mek It was so very nice to speak with you tonite, I am glad you called. The chat we had was great.
Thank You!
Shirley
I could not read your comment, however it seems you think you might have been forgotten, that will never be the case, I think of you often and always in hopes that you post a comment.
You always have such witty things to say, and when we are not fed, you always seem to come up great meal choices.
The nest is here for you, whether you just want to leave a one sentence comment or you want to tell us about your day or even just lurk.
You are so much more than what you may think, we all see it here, we see you for you!
Each morning when you wake, think of all the good, think how perhaps you can change just one thing about yourself that would make you happy and do it. Small steps lead to big ones, and there is no rush, take it slow.
Look out the window and look at the sky and breathe....Pull back those curtains, Look up, Its there!
My best to you always!
I noticed that Outoftune, BonO & Sacbarb mentioned about reuseable grocery shopping bags. When I grew up in Germany everyone brought their own material or mesh bags to the grocery stores. We brought weaved baskets with handles for our breads and pastries so they wouldn't be smashed. You recycled your glass milk bottles. I recall how they built homes to last for generations. They handed down paintings through the generations. It just never entered their minds to consider being bored of home decor and toss it. Their tables and chairs were sturdy and solid and one set would last a life time. They didn't use carpet. They all had hardwood floors that never needed replacing. Each room had a gas heater. If you weren't using that room then you shut the door and turned the heater off. Teenagers under the age of 19 were not allowed drivers licenses. Most families owned only one car. Many people road buses or trains to work. They walked, rode bicycles or mopeds for trips around town. Another thing that Germans did that many of us here are programmed not to do is they would wear the same outfit several days in a row until that one was actually dirty before moving on to the next outfit. We have a friend visiting this week from Germany and he noticed how cheap our gasoline is! Their gasoline is $8 a gallon. Ouch, huh?!
Lovey
You can never ever bring the nest down. There is no reason for you to ever step away. We all have good days and bad ones. It really just does not matter. Life is what we all face daily, By you not feeling yourself is just life, and its ok.
Share with us, Tell us, We will listen, Please don't keep this away from us.
Life is not all peaches and cream..
We know this. We can handle it.
I would love to hear more about what you going thru. I would love to help in any way I can!
Happiness and Smiles to you

Congrats on first
iteach
Your blog today was terrific. I have to admit I do absolutely nothing for the green campaign. I do recycle at home, however I don't at work, as I use a private company and its not required, so I don't go out of my to way to separate things.
I will try and think about it tho, thanks for enlightening me.

sweet dreams and good night. Sorry that I missed you. I'm always a hit and run fly by most of the time. It's been a quiet night. I think we all had too much fun over Easter and exhaustion has set in.

Hi Owls!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!
Tina: Thanks for the Easter blog! The Easter bunny always hid my Easter baskets too. That darn rabbit! ;)
Iteach: Thanks for the eco-friendly blog! Lots of interesting information today.
Tinka: Glad you enjoyed your visit with KFC. She truly is a special lady who always has kind, happy words for everyone. She has been a source of strengthen for me this past week, and I'm happy she brightened your day too. I would love to meet both of you!
VIG: Has anyone told you lately that you're an amazing person?! You remind me so much of a good friend of mine who is also a vegetarian and very committed to environmental issues. I have tremendous respect for that kind of compassion and self-discipline. I was also impressed with how you chose not to wallow in self-pity yesterday and instead, made the most of the options available. YAY for you! I'm glad you had a lovely Easter.
Shirley and Lovey: Keeping you both in my prayers. {{Hugs}}
MEK: I was disappointed too when Medium ended with "To be continued." I hate having to wait a week to find out what happened. :)

ITEACH - Great blog!!! I do most of the things that everyone else had mentioned. The one thing that I haven't done is invest in the fabric shopping bags - but I do reuse the brown paper ones. I hope you enjoy the rest of your spring break - and nothing like a good book to fall asleep to!!!
LOVEY - ((((HUGS)))) to you dear friend. This may be a fun place, but we also have compassion for our friends. Do not worry about bringing us down. WE ARE HERE FOR EACH OTHER - and that is why I keep coming back!!! Just know that I love you and have been praying for you. :P
VIG - You amaze me woman with what you do for our planet!!! I can't wait for you to post that video on youtube!!! I'm sure the cousins would be proud!!!
DIANNE - Just let me know when you get back from Texas!!! I wouldn't want Mr. Dianne to scarf down all your cheese when you are gone!!!
I hope everyone has a great day - off to work for me.
ok better late than never.
Living in Hawaii I was amazed at how little recycling was done here until lately.
I being a smoker ( i know bad bad bad girl) have always collected the butts instead of flicking them out the window or throwing them onto the ground. I think I was as many of those used butts as tina washes water.....as I put them into my pocket rather than litter.
I am a major light turner offer.
I have the canvas bags as well for the grocery store or my chinatown produce jaunts.
We have the $.05 cent rebate here for bottles and cans, so it pays to recycle.
I turn off the water to suds up in the shower then turn it on to rinse, and use a glass of water rather than letting the water run when brushing my teeth.
Still working on the roommates to wash the dishes by hand rather than using the dishwasher.
I read the paper online rather than the old school way.
I go to the beauty supply house and refill the shampoo and conditioner bottles.
I use eco friendly shampoos, laundry detergent, dishsoap, and shower gel....cause it all ends up back into mother nature.
I try as best I can, I know I could do better.
Hope everyone had a great day!
that would be wash my butts, not was a butt....lol
dreama
Thank You!
